“You-” She said the same time he spoke. Her memory sharpened as his gaze tightened on her. It all came rushing back–this was the man who saved her two days ago!

Chuckling, Anaya got to her feet and placed her hand forward. “We finally get to meet again, Mr. Fitzgerald. Anaya Robinson.”

“Henry Fitzgerald.” His large and warm hand covered hers gently.

“Nice to meet you, Henry Fitzgerald.” She smiled before settling back on her seat.

She didn’t want to assume but the fact that she was here, just two nights after he saved her bothered her beneath her polite smile. How was she to explain that this was a total coincidence?

“So, matchmaking? I would have thought that a man like you could get any girl he desired with a flick of his fingers.” Anaya started a conversation with a casual tone.

“I am not looking for someone to kiss my feet because of my money or my looks. Which is why I opted for anonymity.” Henry leaned back on the chair, his sharp gaze on her. “And you?”

“Well, I need to get m

Anaya stared back at Henry, not knowing how to respond to his declaration. If he had a son, why was he looking for a wife? Was he divorced? Did she have to worry about his son’s mother?Numerous questions roamed her head at the same time but she could only find her back to say. “I see…” Her voice faltered as she tried to find a suitable response. “And is his mother aware…?”A dark look flashed across his face before he composed himself. “I am a widower.” Anaya couldn’t help but blanch out with shock. She had expected a lot of things from her date tonight but meeting the man who saved her and having him confess that he was a widower wasn’t in her list of expectations.“I am sorry.” She mumbled, the air getting awkward now. Was that even the right thing to say?“Sorry for what? Are you the culprit who took my wife away from me?” Henry deadpanned.Anaya opened her mouth to speak but it was futile. His curtness was definitely something she needed to get used to–if they intended on going

“Shut up!” Daisy exclaimed. Anaya grinned at the shock on her friend’s voice. She was getting ready to see her uncle with Henry when her childhood friend, Daisy, called. When she told her friend she was getting married in less than a week, she knew all hell was going to break loose.“You’re kidding! No, you’ve got to be kidding me, Ana!” There were some noises in the background before the voice cleared up again.“Oh, Daisy, I wish I was. Everything just happened so fast. It’s a contract marriage. I just need someone to help me get Mom’s trust fund before Charles decides to get his hand on it.” Anaya moved to her jewelry closet to get something to match her outfit.“Contract marriage? What are you, Anaya? Some protagonist in a fiction novel?” Daisy scoffed.“At this point, my life has been like a freaking fiction. Might as well roll with it.” Anaya put on the dangling silver earrings.“Anaya, why don’t you take some time to think about this? I know your uncle has been pressuring you to

Anaya stepped out of her car when she saw a black BMW pulling up in front of her uncle’s mansion. Wrapping the light shawl around her shoulders, she crossed the street just as Henry got out of his car.For a moment, she was dazed by his charming looks. She had seen a lot of handsome men in her lifetime but there was something about Henry that always put her on an edge. His chiseled features were accentuated by the crisp navy blue suit he put on which brought out his muscular physique in the most perfect way. His sleek black hair was brushed back, placing his face in full display. The subtle silver shirt added a touch of class to the overall look.“Good evening.” Henry greeted with a nod then his eyes travelled down her body. Anaya’s lips parted a little but she didn’t know if it was because of the chilly weather or the fact that Henry was openly checking her out.If there was one thing she has learned about Henry since they met, it was that he was never subtle with his actions or word

A firm grip on her hand made Anaya snap out of her shock. She turned to look at Henry who seemed unfazed by the numerous pairs of eyes on him.“Are you okay?” His voice was soft and comforting. Gulping, she nodded even though she was feeling otherwise inwardly. She had already braced herself to tackle her uncle and aunt, confident she would be able to handle two opponents. But now, the game has changed. Three more of her enemies were present and her head was spinning already.“Anaya!” Her uncle’s loud voice boomed across the room as he stepped towards them. “It’s so good to see you again.” He opened his arms and pulled her for a side hug.“You too, uncle.” Anaya responded with a tight voice, pushing away from him slightly. “Good evening, aunt.” She greeted the tall woman with sharp cheekbones.“Welcome, darling.” Samira smiled before turning her gaze to Henry.“Uh, uncle, this is my fiance, Henry. Henry, meet my uncle and aunt, Charles and Samira Frederick.” Anaya introduced and Henry

“You’re nervous.” Henry stated, his lips curled into a smirk. “I’m not!” Anaya fired back. Anaya has faced a lot of board meetings with condescending elders and staunch faces. And she had survived everything. She even endured years of bullying from her cousins, fighting tooth and nail to keep her sanity. So, meeting the Fitzgeralds wouldn’t be as difficult as she feared. She hoped. Henry was amazing at last night’s dinner with her uncle’s family. They left earlier than expected because Charles had nothing else to say after realizing that Anaya’s fiance was someone richer and more powerful than him. Henry scaled through the dinner, even putting her uncle in his place with unreserved confidence. Anaya wasn’t sure how she would fare with his family. He informed her that his father was no more so it was just his mother, Margaret, and his younger sister, Hana whom she had seen in some fashion articles a few times. The Fitzgerald mansion seemed like something straight out of a fair

“Nooo! It’s not like that!” Henry watched as Anaya played with Ryle like they were long time buddies. He had been skeptical about Ryle accepting a stranger as his mother but his usually cranky son fell in love with Anaya at first sight. And Anaya played with him so well that Henry was starting to worry less about having her in his house. He had been worried, thinking if she would be able to be a good mother to Ryle. But from the little he has seen, he had high expectations now. “It’s a shame she’s too pretty.” Margeret said with her eyes on Anaya. “Why do you keep finding places to fault her, Mother? Do you think I would just bring anyone into my house and our lives?” Henry sighed under his breath. The reaction he had gotten from his mother when he told her he wanted to introduce her to his fiancee was one he had expected. She immediately began questioning him about Anaya and what her intentions were with him. One of the disadvantages of being from an extremely wealthy family wa

  • You Want Me Back, Don't You?   Her Revenge Trump Card

“Anaya! Anaya! Look over here!”Stepping out of her car, Anaya realized that the crowd in front of her company building were actually reporters. Their flashes disturbed her eyes as she tried to pass between them to get to the building.“Tell us about your love story with Henry Fitzgerald!”“Did you get married to him for his money?” “How did you two meet?” The security guards at the entrance held the reporters back, making way for Anaya to enter the building. Her employees greeted her, every one of them regarding her with slight awe and suspicion. Henry and Anaya held a quiet court wedding yesterday with the witnesses being Henry’s family and Daisy. They both agreed that would be the best in order to save themselves from the media’s attention but it seemed their marriage news had been leaked already. She woke up this morning with her phone buzzing with notification and emails, different people congratulating her. She wondered if she would have gotten this much attention if she had

“I don’t wanna sleep now!” Ryle jumps on his bed as a protest.“But it’s bedtime already.” Anya kept her voice firm, wanting to let him know that they’re done playing for the day. After work today, she had her things dropped at Henry’s condo just as they had agreed. She still found it weird that she wasn’t going to have my space all to herself after living alone for almost five years now. Ryle had been extra excited to see her moving in and he hadn’t left her side all day long. Now, it was time to head to bed and he was being cranky.“But I hate bedtime!” Ryle pouted, crossing his arms across his chest in defiance.“I hear someone being stubborn here.” Henry came in, resting by the doorway.Anaya hadn’t seen him all day because he had a dinner appointment with one of his clients. He looked pleasantly good, even though she could see how tired he was. Moving his eyes towards her, he nodded softly as a greeting and she looked away, her stomach acting up just from the little action.“Mo

Anaya tapped her laptop screen, analyzing the sales chart Maia had prepared for her. With the new investment, things have been going smoothly in the company and she couldn’t be any happier.Technically, she had no urgent need for her mother’s trust fund anymore but she still needed to get a hold of it before her uncle tried to act cunning.A soft knock came from the door before Maia walked in, holding her tablet. “Boss, the report from the investigator is out.” Maia handed her the tablet.Anaya had hired a private investigator to look into the incident at the yacht. If she wanted to find out who this person was, she needed to be one step ahead of him or her. Virtually everyone who attended the party was an acquaintance of Henry and a stranger to her.Why would a stranger want her dead?“Nothing?” She frowned at the report from the investigator.“Yes, he said there was nothing suspicious. Not even a circumstantial evidence that would have implicated any of the guests.” Maia said grimly

Soft sunlight snuck into the room through the curtains and Anaya groaned slightly, stretching her limbs. However, her hand touched something hard which made her pause for a moment.Turning her head slowly to the side, the sight she saw was adoring. Henry was sleeping soundlessly with his black hair sprawled all over his head. His arm was around her as though his body naturally found hers during the night. He looked peaceful as he slept. Almost like the weight he carried on his shoulders when he was awake was too heavy for him.Anaya hesitated, her hand reaching out to comb his hair just when she noticed something by the door. Her eyes widened as her lips parted with shock. She was mistaken. It wasn’t a thing but someone.“Good morning to you too, Anaya.” Margeret's smile certainly didn’t reach her eyes.Shooting up from the bed in an instant, Anaya swayed a bit from the slight ache in her head from her sudden movement. “G-Good morning.” She mumbled under her breath while trying to sta

  • You Want Me Back, Don't You?   Locked Up In The Same Room For The Night

Anaya closed her laptop with a huff, falling back on the bed with exhaustion. Her hair laid behind her as she stared up at the ceiling with boredom. It has been three days since she returned home after the incident, yet, she hadn’t stepped a foot out of the room.Henry hired someone–a menace–to take care of her every need. As soon as she woke up, the woman helped her to the bathroom to take her bath, she cooked for her and even helped her read her emails. Each time she tried to stand up from the bed, the woman would hit her back with a lecture of how she needed to rest in order not to suffer complications later. Anaya would have thought she was pregnant at the rate Henry was being overprotective of her.The first few days she tried to play along because her body did need the rest but today was the last straw. She needed to get out of the room before she ran mad.Two rapid knocks sounded at the door and she looked up to see Henry leaning on the doorway with a smile. “How are you?” He a

Henry rested by the balcony of this office, the breeze at the top floor soft against his face. He quickly had to rush out of the hospital for an urgent meeting with a client. Though, he stayed a few minutes watching Anaya soundlessly sleep in his arms.He hadn’t felt that in ages. Someone naturally fitting into his arms like they were made for each other. It reminded him of the many years he had woken up with Lauren by his side. Those quiet and intimate mornings they shared in each other’s arms were one of the most precious memories he had of her.He felt terrible. Like he was betraying her by thinking, worrying and caring for Anaya. He didn't want things to turn out like this. He didn’t want to see her as his wife but only as Ryle’s stepmother.Still, he needed to find out what happened to her last night. Something was off, and he trusted his gut instincts more than anything. He didn’t believe the story she cooked up for him. Not one bit.Anaya hadn’t slipped from the yacht due to ca

Her grip on the phone tightened and she was rendered speechless. She hadn’t thought she would be talking to the person who tried to kill her as soon as today.Noticing the curious pairs of eyes on her, she dropped the phone from her ear and forced a smile–polite but firm. “Can you both excuse me for a while? I need to answer this.” Daisy hesitated, looking like she was about to say something before stopping herself. Maia narrowed her eyes slightly but nodded.“Of course, I’ll be right outside.” Maia left the room and Daisy followed after. As soon as the door closed behind them, Anaya placed the phone in her ear. “Who are you?” She gritted out and a low laughter rumbled. It sent chills down her body. The voice wasn’t human–it had been altered by some technology so she couldn’t deduce if it was a male or a female.“Revealing who I am too soon would only spoil the fun, Anaya.”“Playing with a person’s life is something funny to you?” Anaya hissed. “What do you want? • You Want Me Back, Don't You?   A Familiar Scent and The Mysterious Call

Anaya blinked her eyes open, squinting as the morning light filtered into the room through the window blinds. She stretched her aching limbs softly and then, she paused. Something felt wrong.Turning to her side, she realized that she was alone in the room. A frown adorned her face. She wondered if Henry sleeping with her on the bed last night had been a dream. Then, she spotted something from the corner of her eye. The note laying next to her pillow confirmed it had been real. She reached for the note and read the sharp but neat handwriting which said.“Something urgent came up and I had to step out of the office. You were sleeping soundlessly and it would have been a crime to wake you up. Get your much needed rest.- H.F”A smile spread onto her lips as she read his rushed words over and over again. Anaya’s chest felt heavy, almost like tons of bricks were placed on top of her body for hours. She breathed in, the air around her stiff and sterile. Her limbs were unmovable and it took a lot of effort on her part to open her eyes. She stared at the blank white ceiling for a while, trying to organize her thoughts amidst her aching head. The soft beeping sound coming from a device made her feel as if she were in a dream. Then, she saw someone–Henry. He was seated in a chair beside her bed, slumped and still. His disheveled hair was damp and his clothes were wrinkled like he had taken a shower with them on. His eyes were open but he was staring at the wall across him, far off from reality. She shifted slightly and Henry shot up immediately, his eyes dilating with panic. “Anaya.” Anaya licked her dry lips and forced herself to speak audibly. “What…happened?” Henry released a deep breath, relief flashing across his face like all he ever wished for was to hear her voice. “Y-You fell ove

Henry rushed down the deck, trying to calm his racing heart. He had just almost overstepped his boundaries with Anaya and he cursed himself for trying to take advantage of the moment. He couldn’t remember the last time he had acted so irrationally but he was grateful he was able to stop himself before actually kissing her. He had to remind himself that their marriage was nothing but a contract of mutual benefits and he couldn’t breach any of their terms and conditions.Still, he found it hard to get the look on Anaya’s face, after he pulled away from her, out of his head. She looked…disappointed–almost like she had been craving for him to kiss her.Or maybe he was mistaken and his brain was just cooking up scenes to mask his guilt. He sighed under his breath. He needed a stronger liquor to drown his thoughts and possibly erase the embarrassment of his mistake. “Where’s Anaya?” Yara asked, stopping him on his way to the bar.Henry gritted his teeth, not wanting to tell Yara what just

Soft lights glittered over the dark water as the yacht swayed under the night tides. Anaya stepped onto the deck, the pulse of the lively music blasting in the air. The atmosphere was electric and it was clear everyone was having a good time already.“I’ve never been to a yacht party before.” She leaned on her tiptoe for Henry to hear her voice over the loud music. “The Yus yacht parties are the best in town. Private and unhinged.
