I couldn’t wait for the final bell and when it did ring I grabbed my books and shoved them into my bag, hurrying to get up and leave. If I leave early I can make it and do what I have to do.
I know you are curious to know what that is, you will find out soon enough. Right now, I think what I am about to do is extremely dangerous and if I get caught , well, I don’t think I’ll be in too much trouble, I just think everyone in school will think I’m even weirder than they do now.
I hurried to the pack and sure enough there was Noah as early as ever. I was about to smile, feeling that rush of warmth in my body again, when my joy was cut short when Miss Aurora ran across the pack to the car. She put her arms around Noah’s neck right in front of everyone who cared to look at them. She was smiling when she pulled back and as I got to them I heard them talking.
“Thanks for last night,” she was saying.
“It’s nothing,” Noah said in his sexy deep voice.
Miss Aurora’s eyes were bright as she looked into his eyes, those sexy eyes that stared at me this morning with an unreadable expression in them. Those eyes and his voice made me feel comfortable enough to come to school with my bald head. If he hadn’t said something about how he preferred me without the head warmer I definitely would have come to school hiding in my hoodie.
But now those eyes were staring down into Miss Aurora’s.
“Well I’m free tonight…” she started and left the sentence hanging with a suggestive smile.
Noah started to answer and honestly I wanted to hear what he had to say. Would he tell her he too was free? Would they go to a club and end up in her apartment? Or will he bring her back to the mansion into his room? Will they have sex? Maybe they did have sex last night. Maybe that’s why she’s thanking him. It sounded ridiculous to me but I began to think about how good his cock must have been for her to thank him for it today.
A lump of jealousy rose in my throat. Ginny, stop hurting yourself with imaginary scenarios, I chided myself but I couldn’t stop my jealousy from choking me.
At that moment Leo rushed past me. “Miss Aurora. Noah I won’t be going home with you today.”
Noah finally looked away from her. “And why is that?”
“A friend of mine has invited me over.”
I didn’t have to search around for that friend. Lizzie was standing off to the side with a wide smile on her face as she waited for Leo. She has no shame. I can’t imagine being surrounded with friends as shallow as Lizzie and Jeannie. Poor Emerald. Wherever she is, she probably thinks her friends miss her. I wonder what she will think if she knows they are moving on without her, mere hours after her accident.
“I told Maggie already so that’s settled.”
Noah thought about it for a second then nodded. “Fine. Keep in touch.”
Leo didn’t say anything to me as he nodded happily and walked away to join the scheming witch.
“Ginny?”
I turned my gaze to Noah and realized he was watching me quizzically. “Are you ready to go?”
“Um yeah, I guess I am.”
He wouldn’t stop looking at me. Those hazel blue eyes seemed to swallow me in, bald head and all.
Miss Aurora stood there her expression turning from a hopeful one to a downcast one. Noah had probably forgotten she was there.
“Um Noah?” I used my eyes to indicate her and he caught himself.
“Aurora…”
Oh, they use their first names now?
“Oh no I understand if you’re busy…you do have a job protecting Ginny and Leo after all…” she hurriedly said.
“Oh no, that’s fine,” Noah rushed to assure her blushing a little. “I only have to drop Ginny off and…,” he suddenly remembered I was standing there. “You don’t have anywhere you need to go do you?”
I wanted to lie and say no because Miss Aurora looked so hopeful. I wanted to tell him to drive me home and go on a date with her but I didn’t want to lose this chance to find out what I needed to.
“Actually, I do have somewhere I need to be,” I heard myself say and immediately hated myself for Miss Aurora’s downcast expression.
“Oh, uhm that’s alright…some other time then?”
He reached out as if to stop her and I almost wanted him to touch her, I wanted him to yell at me and tell me to stay at home and that he wasn’t going to drive me anywhere but his hand dropped to his side and he smiled.
“Yes, some other time.”
Miss Aurora hugged him, holding on a little too long and placed a kiss on his cheek. My heart twisted in my chest for some reason. “I will call you,” she promised and left.
I stood there watching her go wishing I could call her back. I could go home by myself but I’m sure Noah wouldn’t hear of it.
“Ginny?”
I snatched my gaze back to his.
“Are you ready?” he sounded very concerned for me.
“Yes,” I replied and climbed into the front seat. He climbed into the driver’s side and the car suddenly felt smaller.
I sat in front with Noah feeling stiffer than a lamppost. Noah started and moved his hand to shift the gear and that almost – touch was enough to make me hold my breath. Even with the crowd of students getting into their cars it felt like it was just me and him in the world. Where were my thoughts of Leo? Where did they all go?
I waited for him to move but when all he did was simply hold the gear I was finally forced to look up at him. His gaze was direct. His gaze is always direct and that’s what I find unsettling. I’m the one with the direct gaze, I’m the one who love to unsettle people but Noah is one upping me and I don’t know, that makes me feel…squeamish but in a good way.
I tried not to show it.
“Are you alright?” came his calm voice.
I hate that he remains calm no matter how much I piss him off. What sort of training did he get as a pack warrior to make him so calm and sensible?
Or maybe I’m the one making him calm and sensible. Isn’t that how anyone would treat a child? In a calm and sensible manner?
For some reason that made me mad. I crossed my arms in front of me. “Why do you want to know? Does it matter?”
“You didn’t get bullied today, did you?”
Apart from the occasional giggles and baldy comments no I didn’t get bullied but I didn’t think he cared enough to ask.
“No, Noah I didn’t get bullied,” I responded in my usual rude voice. “Now can we go? The sooner we leave here the better,” I said looking out of the window. “Besides you might actually make it with Aurora if we are fast enough.”
He didn’t say anything but I could feel his gaze on me. My skin tingled. After a few seconds he released a breath and shifted the gear. I sensed that meant an end to the conversation he was trying to make. Now he was back to being Noah, my bodyguard.
“So are you going over to a friend’s too or what?”
Something like that. Only that this friend did not invite me. I looked across the pack again and sure enough Lindsay was entering a silver car with clear windows, the first I have seen around her. It will be easy to trail her.
I looked at Noah guiltily and quickly looked away. “We will be doing something illegal.”
“How illegal?” his voice was guarded and I was once again reminded of the fact that we were alone.
I bit my lip and pointed out Lindsay’s car which was beginning to back out of the lot like other cars in the pack. It was heading toward the gate.
“Follow that car.”
“A rival?” there was humor in his voice.
“Ha ha. No just follow it.”
I expected him to argue but he simply put the car on drive and drove quickly to meet up with the car as it drove out of school. Noah put the car directly behind it but not too close that we would be noticed and when the car joined the main traffic we were right behind it.
I looked at him, surprised. “Why aren’t you arguing and lecturing me about stalking someone?” I asked as I sank in the seat to avoid being too visible.
“Has anyone ever convinced you not to do something you set your heart on?”
“No.”
“There you have my answer.”
He was smiling a bit wider and my lips quivered in the beginning of a smile. “You are being a smart ass.”
“It’s either being a smart ass with you or try not to…get too annoyed by you.”
He was going to say something else, I’m sure of that. I didn’t push, I don’t think I’m ready to hear what he would have said instead so I didn’t trying to tease him about it I just watched as he followed the car when it turned a bend.
I don’t know when the thought came but I remember thinking that whoever Lindsay’s driver is needs to be sacked for not noticing us behind him. If someone was behind us and Noah failed to notice I know I’ll be telling Maggie to replace him. The way it is though, I don’t think Noah will ever be caught lacking. The man is a true wolf and nothing misses his attention. The silver car went off the road and moved along a lone road toward private property and I expected Noah to go after it but surprisingly he went past the private road and continued to drive down. I sat up in the seat to glare at him. “We were following that car!” “And we are still following it.” “Yeah we were until you stopped going after it. It turned a corner right there.” “And that corner leads to a private road. I’m guessing you don’t want the girl in that car knowing that you are trailing her. This is the best way to prevent her from discovering that her classmate is a stalker.” “So how do you intend to find them
I sat back in the seat thinking about what I had just seen. “No, there’s nothing to talk about.” Noah said nothing but I felt his eyes on me when be backed out of the street and went back out through the secret road and joined the main traffic again. I was wrong about Lindsay. I thought she was an annoying rich girl struggling to climb the social ladder in school. I thought she was treating me as a pity case, trying to befriend the outcast like a social savior of some sort. But her life was far from that she was…sad. Very sad. I couldn’t get the image of her toasting her sandwich in the pan and the sound of her tears from my mind. Why was she crying? Did even need to ask? Wasn’t it obvious? The way she hurried to make sure the vase was okay…I don’t know what else to think. I slumped back in the seat and reached into my boots for the note that I stuffed there. Who could have written it? Emerald had many enemies and anyone could be one of them. “Whatever you are thinking about,
Imagine my surprise and satisfaction when I saw that my laptop remained right where I had locked it. At least I know for sure that whoever has been sneaking into my room to use my stuff doesn’t know that I locked it. I should probably keep locking it from now on. As I pulled the laptop out of my drawer I thought about the possibility that it was Stark who had been coming into my room to use my laptop but Maggie had gotten one for her too and I know Stark well enough to know that she wouldn’t use my stuff without telling me. Besides whoever has been using my laptop has been checking stuff about school so that completely rules out any possibility that Stark is behind this. So I have come to one natural conclusion, someone snuck into my room. Whoever that person is is behind the chocolate chips cookies I found in my room and the same person used my computer to log into our class group chat. That person obviously has a grudge against Emerald. Now that one is not a surprise.Emerald has ma
The girl on the bed jolted with a start as she woke up from yet another nightmare she would never remember, the dream would be like fog disappearing at the light of dawn. Just like the others before them. Her shaggy red hair was stark against her pale sweaty skin.Yes, that girl is me, Ginny. You may have heard about me but then again maybe you haven’t, I don’t care. I just want to go back to bed and continue my lovely sleep.Yes, I have a bed. TO MYSELF! How awesome is that?!I still can’t believe I don’t live in the woods while having to share a room with Stark and Briggs anymore. Since Maggie Dark Storm in her unconventional marriage to two Alphas adopted all of us as her children I have known nothing but comfort. And no I do not miss the woods. Who would give up the comfort of this soft, large bed for a grass mattress?Anyways, looking at the clock opposite my bed, a groan escaped my lips as I realized I couldn’t go back to bed. It’s my first day of school. A fucking private scho
Noah pulled up in front of the school and I tilted my neck back to look up at the imposing building.“Wow. It’s huge,” Leo said in awe.I glanced at him from the side of my eye with a cocked brow. Since when did Leo become a nerd? He used to be the biggest playboy back when we lived in the woods. I lost count of the number of girlfriends he had but I let him run wild because I know that at the end of the day, he will find his way home. With me.But I have to agree with him, the school really was huge, a 30,000 square-foot construction bordered by natural forest. It was set in private land no doubt owned by a monarch or someone equivalent. The walls of the school were done in shades of grey, white, and black to match the uniform. Kill me now this looks like a prison.A total of 12 country flags lined the front of what I assume to be the administrative building and I’m going to call bull right now and say that Princeton doesn’t have schools in those 12 countries so why have so many flag
“Uh…is it just me or are these people checking us out?” I wondered aloud as Leo and I walked to a second-row seat. Let me let you in on a little secret, some wolves can read minds but that’s not something I am blessed with. Leo never talks about his powers but mine -? Let’s just say it’s a little strange. But what I lack in mind reading, I more than make up for with my ability to read people’s faces and I just wish these people staring didn’t all have the same bland expression on their faces.Leo shrugged nonchalantly, he didn’t seem to mind being the center of attention. “They are staring. It’s normal, we are the new kids.”“Well, they don’t have to stare like we are exhibitions at the museum.”As we took our seats, Leo suddenly leaned in closer. This is the first time in my life that he has ever been this close since we both became teenagers and he became a playboy. My heart picked up pace and my eyes drifted down to his luscious lips, this would be a good time to stake my claim and
“You like her?” I whispered to Leo while we joined the others in getting out of the hall. The blonde guy who had told us where to sit was far ahead and I’m taking a wild guess here by thinking he is in my class. And from the looks of it, I may be right. We passed the junior block and walked down a hallway with a square courtyard on one side into the senior block. Just down that hallway was the notice board where a group of Class 1 to 3 seniors were checking out the info on the notice board. I didn’t miss the curious glances many of the students passed my way. Believe me, I’m not an attention seeker but I can never seem to go anywhere without pulling attention. As we turned past a column, one of the four columns set at the edge of another courtyard with grass and flowers, Leo caught my gaze. “Like who?” “Emmy,” I tried to hide the envy in my voice. He frowned. “Who’s Emmy?” “The girl who sat in front of us at the assembly. You said she was pretty.” “Oh, she? Yeah, she is, any pro
So we had classes right off the bat. Princeton isn’t joking about educating her students. As you may have deduced from my assignment to class A, I am pretty intelligent. I know you probably thought otherwise since you see how dumb I can be where Leo is concerned and how much I hate school but it’s not a big deal.Knowing the secrets of everyone in school was quite interesting, Lindsay likes to talk and she wasted no time dishing out the most juicy secrets, even those of the staff. It was kind of interesting getting to know my classmates through the secrets I know about them and while that made class tolerable, the stinging feeling at the back of my neck made it very much unbearable.Whose decision was it to put the redhead stalker in Class A?I looked behind me and there he was hiding behind his History textbook pretending to read while he was actually peeping off the edge and staring at me. I frowned to make him know I was watching and for a second he hid behind his book again.Mr. D

I jerked my arm free from Colin’s hold as soon as he swung the door of the art room close. The place smelled of paint and wood and brushes and many of the easels were covered with tarps. The place looked airy since it was currently not in use, which was why the windows were shut.At least Colin hadn’t locked the door. Even if he did I’m sure that whatever he is I am faster than him with my wolf powers.“What’s the big idea?” I demanded.“The fact that you’re stalking me or the fact that you are surprise I actually noticed?”“That’s not an answer to my question,” I said defensively.“Why are you following me?”I scoffed. “What makes you think I am following you, Colin?” I crossed my hands in front of me and glared at him. “What do you have to hide?”He didn’t answer quickly. He was careful, watching my face as if he was trying to decide how much I knew. Not much from my perspective. In fact, I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to know. I didn’t know what to think; first his odd behavior
By two in the afternoon the bell went off. Our next period was gym class. When we picked our subjects for our entrance exam into Princeton, I skipped gym because I kinda thought it would be unfair to surpass these poor human kids with my supernatural powers. Leo was on the football team. I don’t know how he plans to manage his powers when he has to play in slow motion with pathetic human speed.I’m sure he will figure it out though. He is not my concern right now.My target was moving out of class and I made sure I got behind him while still keeping a safe distance away. I didn’t want to lose him in case he slipped into the shadows or hid among students moving up and down the hall. Also the last thing I want is for him to notice I was onto him.I knew where he was heading to but I just couldn’t let him out of my sight. He turned around a corner same as other people. I did the same but waited a few feet behind so that he wouldn’t sense me. After a few minutes of walking we passed anoth
“Did Parker just leave after spending like 10 minutes with you?”I looked up to see Lindsay’s awe. She looked like Taylor Swift just offered her a ticket to her concert. She pushed the chair Parker just stood up from and very reverently lowered herself on it. I fought hard against rolling my eyes. Any second from now she might get home and take the chair to a museum because you know, Parker Farrell sat on it.“He did. What about that?”“I didn’t expect him to move on so soon and even if he was, I didn’t think you would be his next option.”I eyed her from the corner of my eyes. “Did ever occur to you that he came to pickup from where his girlfriend stopped?”She shrugged. “I don’t know, it never did. Maybe because Todd came over to talk to me. I didn’t think he even knew my name but he congratulated me on my promotion from C to A class.”I watched her go on and on about Todd while my mind drifted off to Parker. He was on his seat and Keith and come to join him. They were talking and l
Still not saying a word to each other, Leo and I got out of the car and made our way into the school building. There was a change in the atmosphere and was expected and everyone was silently moving from the front doors to the assembly hall. And in the assembly hall the administrators and teachers stood on the stage waiting as students filled in the seats. I went upstairs leaving Leo behind and took a seat away from him. My other classmates began to troop into the hall and leading then was Parker, Todd, Keith, Lizzie and Jeannie. Jeannie’s nose was red as if she had been blowing her nose all night but strangely her eyes were as dry as a desert. She looked up and saw Leo and immediately left her group of friends to hook her arm through his, that was the only time any sign of tears appeared in her eyes as she clung to him. “It’s so awful,” I heard her say. “I don’t think I can stand being here knowing that only a few hours ago Emerald had an accident here.” She turned her big blue eyes
Leo was downstairs having breakfast and he was sort of taking his time since the rain was still coming down heavily. I ignored breakfast because I didn’t want to sit at the table with him, I might just kill him if I do.I went into the kitchen instead where Maggie was holding a blueberry muffin for me.“I had a feeling you were going to skip breakfast this morning.”“I’ll be fine.” But I took the muffin and took a bite before dropping it on the kitchen counter in favor of a bottle of water. For some reason I couldn’t stomach food and it had everything to do with Emerald’s death. How can Leo who is actually friends with her bear to eat?“Should I keep that for later?” Maggie asked worried.“Uh – uh,” I said.I just couldn’t wait to get out of the house and so I snapped the hood of my sweater over my head and went outside to the garage through the kitchen door. Noah was waiting as always, dressed in suit, again. Almost immediately all thoughts about Emerald flew out of the window and I
