"Hmm?"

Rebecca met his gaze with a questioning look. Surprised by David's complex expression, she followed up with, "What is it?"

It looked like Rebecca had forgotten what she said last night.

David continued hesitating about whether he should bring it up or not. Pretending like nothing happened seemed to be a good idea right now too.

Rebecca seemed the type to not hold onto grudges. It was as if a good night's sleep was enough to let the past stay in the past.

So, why bring up something that would upset both of them now?

David was about to say, "It was nothing." But he swallowed it down at the last second.

He straightened up and sighed deeply before asking, "Do you still remember what you said last night, Becca?"

Rebecca was just about to smear some strawberry jam onto a piece of toast when she paused.

She said nothing while David continued, "You said you were tired last night after being out all day, and that I wasn't in the best state of mind to talk, given how angry I got.
