Chapter 5 The Dress That Didn't Fit

Right when Rebecca wanted to push Jessica away, Jessica's expression suddenly changed. She frowned and let go of Rebecca.

Jessica looked at Rebecca's waist and said, "Rebecca, this dress doesn't seem to fit you. Why do I feel it's too big for you?"

Every event the ladies in high society attended was like a competition. Their dresses and jewelry were meant to flaunt their family's wealth.

They would discuss which designer they were wearing, which tailor-made dresses were limited editions, and who designed their jewelry.

If someone wore something out of fashion, they would single out that person. It would be worse if a person accidentally wore a knockoff. Clearly, a dress that didn't fit was embarrassing too.

The people around Rebecca started to poke fun at her.

"How is she Mrs. Winston? She doesn't even have a dress that fits her. How pitiful."

"Be a little understanding. She just came back after being forced to live abroad. It's good enough that she has a decent dress to wear. Look at her hair. What an unfashionable mess that is. It's no wonder Mr. Winston doesn't like her. I wonder when he's going to divorce her. The quicker he does it, the sooner he will be free from her!"

Jessica acted like she didn't hear them. She whined to Daniel, "Dan, how could you prepare such a dress for Rebecca?"

Rebecca knew she would pull this trick. So, she calmly watched Jessica put on her act. She thought Jessica was acting really childish.

To her surprise, Daniel explained, "I didn't have the time to ask for Becca's size. I thought both of you should have similar figures. So, I asked the designer to make the dress based on your measurements. I didn't think it wouldn't fit her, but it's too late to make changes now."

The crowd immediately fell silent.

Jessica could barely keep the smile on her face. She could feel the crowd looking at her with a mocking gaze. It was as if they were saying that she was chubbier than Rebecca.

Also, she had her eye on that dress since it was launched during Sprince's spring-summer show. It wasn't on the market yet. She could only get it from the designer.

She didn't expect Rebecca would be the first to wear it!

But something else was even more unexpected. Not only did Daniel give the dress to Rebecca, but he also defended that bitch!

Jessica took a deep breath. She worked hard to maintain her composure.

Then, she whined to Daniel, "Oh, I see. You should be more attentive next time, then."

Daniel looked at Rebecca and let out a deep hum in acknowledgment.

Jessica gritted her teeth. But a smile appeared on her face again as she turned to hold Rebecca's hand.

"Oh yes, Rebecca. Dan has given me quite a few dresses this time. They are also in different sizes. If you don't mind, you can change into one of them. You won't look good if your dress doesn't fit you."

At first, Rebecca wanted to reject her offer. The dress wasn't a perfect fit. However, it was quite comfortable to wear something a little looser.

The words were at the tip of her tongue, but she suddenly smirked and said, "Sure."

"I put the dresses in your old room. You can change into whichever one you like. There are still guests here, so I'll let you go to the room by yourself." Jessica pulled her hand back.

Rebecca nodded. "See you later."

Just as she was about to walk away after gathering her dress up, someone bent over to help hold it up for her.

Without any expression on his face, Daniel said, "I'll take you there."

Rebecca instinctively looked at Jessica. She caught a glimpse of resentment on her face. But when she took a closer look, all she saw on the gorgeous face was an adorable expression.

"Dan, my sister has already given me a birthday gift. What about you?" Jessica asked.

Rebecca pulled her dress from Daniel's hand and shot him a look. "It'll be difficult to calm a woman down if she gets angry. You'd better go get her gift."

She then turned and left with no hesitation.

Daniel tightened his grip, but the silk fabric still slipped out of his palm. When he looked up, all he saw was her slender back as she walked to the villa at a steady pace.

Rebecca went straight to the room. It was at the deepest corner of the villa on the second floor.

Before Jessica was brought back to the family, Rebecca stayed in the master bedroom on the second floor. It even had a balcony. When the real daughter returned, it was only natural for her to give up the room.

Back then, it was clear that Jessica didn't like Rebecca. She would cry and complain about how hard it was living with the common folk. It was already kind of Jessica not to make Rebecca stay in the maid's room.

But compared to staying in a room that was out of the way, living off someone else was the true torture. Being alone in the narrow room was the most relaxing time of the day for her back then.

Feeling emotional, Rebecca opened the door.

When she turned on the lights, someone slammed the door shut behind her. She heard the person pull out the keys from outside.

She turned around, but a strong force suddenly gripped her arm.

Shame on you Daniel. How didn’t you have time to ask your wife her size, but you know her sister’s size.
