The next day when I returned from work, Chandni came along. She was holding her pink teddy bear.

“Hey, baby,” I smiled, taking off my shoes. She came to sit beside me.

“Mommy, are you still fighting with Daddy?” Chandni asked.

I looked at her abruptly. “Why do you ask, baby?”

“Because Daddy told me you two aren’t on good terms yet. He said you are mad at him.”

I smiled. “Daddy is just assuming, baby, we are not fighting,” I lied. We are fighting.

“If he wronged you, please, forgive him, Mommy. Daddy is a changed person now.”

“It’s fine, baby, but we are not fighting,” I insisted. Sidd is crazy to tell my daughter such a thing. He wants to use her to get to me.

“Then be happy with him, okay?” Chandni said. I smiled reassuringly.

The following morning, I was rushing out when Mother stopped me. “Hold on, Rani,” she said.

I stopped in my tracks and looked at her. She walked closer to me she placed her palm on my shoulder.

I was dumbstruck. What should I say? Just then, the door creaked open. Sidd walked in, holding a bouquet of rose flowers. He stopped at the door, staring between me an

The winds of change whispered in my ears, urging me to embrace the allure of a new beginning, to step into the unknown and leave behind the fragments of a relationship that had weathered countless storms. Yet, amidst the chaos of my emotions, a flicker of hope burned within me, reminding me of the love that had once been a beacon in my darkest hours.Should I forsake that history, that connection, for the allure of the unknown? Should I turn my back on the love that had become woven into the very fabric of my being? There were sports on campus the following day. I dressed up in my beautiful dress and went to the campus. I had taken my sportswear with me to be worn for the sports. I was on the female volleyball team while Manu was on the female basketball team. It was an amazing sports day on campus and so, the campus was filled with activities. After the sports were over, I went to freshen up and change into my dress. I had kept my dress in a locker but when I came out of the bathroom, there was nowhere to be found. I searched and also asked other girls but no one seems to know where my dress was. I had wrapped a towel around my body with my hair still wet. When I was searching, I found my dress on the basketball court on the floor.“Oh, my God!” I exclaimed moving close to where my dress was. “Who the heck brought my dress down here?” I uttered pissed off.As I bent down to pick up my dress, I heard a voice laughing from behind. I turned to look in that direction. There, I saw Sidd.“So you were

The following day, I was to deliver a speech to the class. I moved forward facing the students. I’m not good at fumbling with words, and I’m fully ready for the speech.“Good day, students!” I greeted. “Today, we’re going to be treating the concept of a Growth Mindset. As we all might know, the concept of a growth mindset has gained widespread recognition and attention in recent years as a key factor in personal and professional development,” I started.“Can I ask a question?” Sidd raised his hand. What? I haven’t even started, and he has a question. Was that why he came to sit in the front row to distract me? Oh, God, he is certainly going to take revenge on me for ruining his computer work yesterday. Then this speech is useless. It’s automatically sabotaged.“What’s your question, please?” I asked, pretending to be polite.“What did your mind tell you before you decided to deliver a speech to us?” He asked.“What do you mean by that?”“Nothing, continue,” he gestured.I ignored him.

Later on, I was seated on a bench with Manu. I was going through a book while she was going through her phone. “Look at this, Rani,” she said showing me her phone. “This is the dress I will be buying for my birthday,” she said. I collected her phone to properly check out the dress. It was a pink beaded white Anarkali with a stole. A mannequin was wearing it.“This is beautiful, I like it,” I said.“Should I order two? I want us to have the same dress,” Manu said.“Are you kidding me? Should we be wearing the same dress on your birthday? Who is the celebrant? People will be confused,” I stated.“Yeah, that’s right, but you can wear another dress on my birthday while you still have this one,” she suggested.“Then order for two,” I affirmed. “I’m sorry, maybe your birthday date that I know is not correct. You were born in November, right?” I queried.“Yes!”“And we are in February.”“Yes?”I laughed. “You are preparing for nine months to come birthday?”“But I like the dress.”“You are f

The next day on campus. I was seated in the courtyard reading. The day was beautiful, with no disturbance. I haven’t seen Sidd since today, so I was rest assured of a peaceful day. As I continued reading, I heard my name.“Rani!” Someone called angrily. Sidd? I thought he wasn’t on campus today. Oh, God! He came standing right in front of me. “Where is my jacket?” he demanded.“Sidd, let me ask you a question. Why are you so obsessed with a common jacket? I told you I burnt it,” I said nonchalantly.“Do you know the worth of that jacket?” he asked.“Does it costs millions?” I retorted.“I want my jacket back, Rani. You got to give to me.”“Then beg for it. Let’s see if it resurrects back for your sake,” I said. “Besides, I had begged you to give it to me. It’s your turn to beg me to give back to you.”“Do you know the ramification of what you are doing? I was an intelligent girl but still, I had to stay up late studying.I was studying one day on campus when a ball was thrown at me. Sidd came to pick up the ball from where it was.“Why did you throw the ball at me? Can’t you see that I’m studying?” I asked as calmly as I could pretend.“Did you see me throw the ball?” He questioned.“I knew it was you, who else in this whole campus does silly things?”“Seriously? And who in this whole campus is as bad looking as you?”“If my look was that irritating, why then do you always disturb me? You can’t live without my beauty,” I commented boldly as I was packing my books to go home.“You are so delusional, you know that?”“Just admit it,” I stated as I was about to go. He threw the ball at me once again but I couldn’t do anything about that. I knew that praising myself hurts him and that was satisfactory for me.I studied late on campus one day, I didn’t come with my scoo

The following day, I walked into my boss’s office. He had summoned me. “Good day, sir,” I greeted. “Good day, dear, have a seat,” he said. I smiled and sat down on the opposite chair. “First and foremost, thank you for allowing your daughter to come along to the outing. I’m very much obliged,” Mr. Arijit appreciated. “I should be thanking you, boss. Chandni was happily going out with you. She enjoys your company and that was relieving.” “I’m glad she did,” he said, pulling out a locker. “Here, I got you a gift,” he presented a small wrapped box to me. “Wow, thank you,” I smiled, taking the box from him. “Can you open it now?” “Oh, yeah, sure,” I agreed and began unwrapping the box. I opened it. It had a beautiful gold necklace in it. Small and expensive. It was the latest necklace, coming new into the market and I have been wishing to get it. Now my boss got it for me. Awesome! “You like it?” “I love it. Thank you so much,” I smiled.

A few days later. I went to meet my boss in his office. He was standing close to the window, looking through it when I entered. I stopped at the entrance.“Boss?” I called. He looked at me. “Here, I brought the file from Karen’s Ink firm for you to sign. They were satisfied with our presentation,” I stated, walking to him.“Okay, put it on my desk,” he said. I put down the file on his desk and turned to go. “Wait, Rani,” he said. I halted and looked at him. He moved close to me. He stood in front of me, staring into my eyes. I felt itchy all over. Why was he staring at me? I looked down, feeling queasy. “Can I ask you a favor?” he asked. “Huh?” I looked at him surprised. What favor can I possibly offer my boss? “What is it, sir?” I asked.“It’s your child,” he said. What about my child? What did she do? Will I lose my job again? “I saw her picture on Facebook. She is adorable,” Mr. Arijit stated, walking away from me. “She looks like you, cheerful and vibrant. C

She wouldn’t answer him. He understood. Sunia hasn’t been herself since their last visit to the hospital.“What does that mean?” she had asked the doctor. Her heart thumbs up to her throat. She was already sweating.“I’m afraid, Mrs. Sharma, you might not be able to have a child of your own anymore,” the doctor announced.“Ow…!” she exclaimed, with the way her heart flew out of her, she fainted. Due to the unnatural way, she lost her pregnancy, she lost her womb with it. Only a miracle can give her a child of her own now.“Sweetheart, why are you like this?” Veejay asked, moving close. After freshening up, I sat on the bed, going through my laptop. I got the presentation on my laptop as a backup. It was sunset then. I heard a knock on my room door. I looked at the door. The knock came up again. I stood up to go get the door. I opened up and saw Mr. Arijit looking down at the door.“Hey,” he smiled, looking up at me with a mesmerizing smile. A few days later, I drove along from work. It wasn’t hectic at the office today. I finished what needed to be done early, so my boss permitted me to go home. Did I tell you guys his name? His name was Arijit Mohan. Mr. Arijit was so good. He was a responsible, concerned, selfless, and humble man. If I had met him before Sidd, I’m certain to have equally fallen in love with him. Crazy thought, I know. I got stuck in Mumbai's impromptu traffic.“Shit!” I hit my fist against the steering wheel.I relaxed back in my seat. I turned my head and saw Sidd coming out of a law firm with an attorney. I knew the attorney, he was a famous divorce handler of his time. I sat up quickly. He handed a paper to Sidd. I bet it was a divorce paper. Was Sidd planning to divorce me? Why? Because of the call girl? The honk of the car horn from my back pulled me back to the reality of the traffic lift. I moved off. I had a constant pang in my heart. Sidd wants to divorce me without thinking of our
