In the few weeks that came after their trip to the amusement park, Halle found herself getting more and more uncomfortable in Stone Manor. As the tension grew, Xavier’s health began to deteriorate drastically. While Halle tried not to show how scared she was for him…there was also no reason to because at some point, she stopped seeing him, courtesy of Horacio who told her laying on the same bed with him was dangerous for the both of them. Xavier stopped asking for her also, but he asked for Damien which wouldn’t have been a problem for her if he didn’t also ask for his mother as well. Halle told herself countless times that she wasn’t affected by it and that all she wanted was his good health but she couldn’t help that pang in her chest that made her want to cry. Halle stared long and hard at her reflection, as usual her eyes shimmering with unshed tears as she took in her pregnant state. She was no longer slim but had added a few healthy looking curves that made her look older
Halle inhaled deeply as she stood in front of Xavier’s room, reluctant to knock on the door or even make a move to announce her arrival. The past few weeks have been weird for her, and harder that she thought. Deep down Halle knew it wasn’t all Xavier’s fault, she knew she should’ve been more insistent even when he said he didn’t want to see her but, truth is she was scares, terrified to see him in the state she expected him to be in. Tabitha had told her he’d been coughing out blood more often and sometimes he went into seizures that they could hardly bring him out from. Halle feared what she would see. But it wasn’t right that she would let him face all of this alone, she knew if she were in his position, Xavier would take good care of her no questions asked. Halle knocked on the door while she held her breath. No turning back now. She thought as she waited for an answer. She heard the sound of footsteps, it was murdered so she couldn’t tell if it was him or…maybe An
Xavier did not say another word as he looked at her with surprise and conviction in his eyes. He knew she was being serious, he also knew there was no way he could stop her. “Very well,” He stiffly nodded, “If that is what you want Halle, I won’t stop you…we can changed the clauses of our arrangements well, if you don’t want to be here then you won’t,” He coughed lightly, “Horacio will give regular visits to wherever you are and give us updates on yours and the baby's health,”Her blood chilled because of how cold his voice sounded, the hurt it made her feel. Halle bit down hard on her bottom lip to stop herself from showing anymore emotion. “When you’re ready to come home, I’ll be here waiting, Halle,”She was supposed to be saying those words to him. Sure she didn’t expect him to be a knight in shining armor or some character from fairytales but, ever since Andrea came into the manor, not only has his attitude towards her changed drastically but it also made her realize that sh
Halle's body stilled and her breathing quietened as Martha’s voice had her feet rooted to the spot. At first she thought she might’ve mistaken someone else's voice for Martha’s. “Well, that wouldn’t have been the case if Horacio was doing his job properly!” Andrea said with an exasperated sigh, sounding like a woman who things weren’t going her way. Were they…speaking about Xavier’s health? “Horacio is doing the best he can to make sure he isn’t suspected, it has to look natural or else Xavier is going to catch on and everything I have planned in the past three years will be for naught,” Martha aggrieved, “Then he’s going to have both our heads on a platter!” “That can’t happen!” Andrea said. Anna heard shuffling, like the woman began to pace due to her nervousness. “Then you have to do your part!” Martha hissed, the tone of her voice unlike what Halle had grown used to. There was no regality or warmth, just pure venom and hatred. Halle knew she shouldn’t have stood there for a
Halle watched as Tabitha and Collette reluctantly got into the car. Tabitha turned around to look at her with teary eyes and it was such an unreal feeling. It took her back to the day she had first met the woman, a stranger that had now become one of her very good friends. “Promise me you will take good care of and never skip your meals!” She said with a shaky voice, shuffling in her feet like she was resisting the urge to walk up to Halle. Halle gave a watery smile and willed herself not to cry as her lips trembled from the pressure of holding it in. “I will never skip my meals and I will see you both soon, I promise,” Halle said. Tabitha nodded firmly and the closed the car door behind her, Collette's hand stuck out the window as the car began to move out of the property. Halle laughed and waved back, feeling a deep pang in her chest as she watched them drive away. There was a high chance that she would never see them again which also meant that she had to be extra car
The sun had gone down after a few hours of staying up in the sky and letting it’s scorching heat also provide light. Something about watching the sunset from the garden out back made Halle feel like her mind was clearer she could think better. It didn’t stop her from feeling lost and desperate for a solution. She say there for hours, racking her brain as to how she was going to fix things. The surprising part though was the fact that Xavier was with her, he had followed her quietly and she didn’t realize he did until agree she was seated with a flower in hand. “You seem lost,” He had pointed out after they had sat in a few minutes of comfortable silence, Halle had rested her head on his shoulders and he had adjusted his body so they could both be comfortable. Halle closed her eyes and bit her bottom lip, she pretended not to hear his question as she pondered over a certain solution that was at the corner of her mind but yet she just couldn’t visualize it. “Flower?” He called
There comes a time in every woman's life when she has to make the tough choice of not just sitting back and letting things happen to her like the world expects of all women. There comes a time when she has to step up and take charge of her fate, no matter the circumstances and no matter how afraid she is of what might come after her dangerous leap of faith. Halle was certain that was the point she had reached, as she wrote those words on paper in a urgent manner, she hoped that it would get to who she wanted it to without her actions being discovered. Everything had to go accordingly, she had to save Xavier. She was the only person who could do it! There was no one she could trust, not even Xavier. Somehow she felt like everything she had gone through in her life had led her up to this moment. She was never able to protect herself or the people she cared about but not anymore, she would not longer be that weakling! Halle folded the paper and put in into the envelope, writing dow
After leaving Xavier's room and promising to meet him before breakfast, Halle opened the letter and read through the contents again just to be sure that she got everything right. Her entire plan depended on the letter getting to the intended today! She carefully folded the letter, her thoughts racing as she prepared to embark on a path that could change everything.Walking down the hallways of Stone Manor, Halle's heart thudded loudly in her chest. Her steps were purposeful, each one bringing her closer to the entrance. The manor was quiet at this hour, the soft hum of morning activity echoing through the hallways. Halle's mind was focused, her determination unwavering.Stepping outside, the crisp morning air greeted her. The scent of blooming flowers filled her senses, creating a surreal atmosphere for the mission ahead. Halle's strides were confident as she made her way toward the entrance gates of the estate. The gravel beneath her shoes seemed to echo her determination with each
