Chapter 10- Resolution
Crash!
The plate slipped from Antonio’s hand. He stood frozen in front of the sink, his jaws dropped and eyes locked at the person in front of the door. Before he could speak, the twins bolted towards her like little puppies welcoming their owner.
“Aeshua!! You’re home!!” The twins said in unison as they jumped up and down Aeshua. Aeshua dropped her things and knelt on her knees. She opened her arms just in time as the twins jumped towards her.
“Aeshua! We missed you! Did you visit Nana?” Aehji said as his baby fingers smosh Aeshua’s cheeks.
“How was Nana? What took yous so long, Aeshua? Do you have anything for me?” Lucas asked, tugging her shirt from the back..
“Kids, let Aeshua rest for a while. It has been a long journey.” Antonio wiped his hands and approached the kids and pushed them gently aside.
Aeshua patted on their heads and took advantage of the free time to put her stuff on their proper places. She looked around but noticed something odd. Before Antonio could bring the children up the stairs, Aeshua called on Aehji and asked, “Aehji, where is Jim?”
Antonio’s head dropped low. Aeshua sensed something was not right. She felt her chest tightening. “Aeshua, let’s talk afterwards. I’ll just tuck the kids to bed.”
Antonio and the kids continued climbing the stairs. He laid the kids on their respective beds and tucked them. Before he could leave, Aehji pulled his shirt. “Antonio, I thought Jim was with---”
“She might be just tired and disoriented that she forgot. Don’t worry about it.” Antonio smiled, trying to hide his trembling lips.
“Why does it seem like everyone is leaving us? Are we bad kids? Don’t they like us?” Aehji released his grip from Antonio’s shirt. The kid yawned and rubbed his eyes.
“Hey, hey kid. It’s not like that! You want me to get angry?” Antonio made scary face impressions making Aehji laugh for a while.
“Aehji, it’s not because the don’t like you. They just need to do things. It’s difficult to understand now that you are still young but later on, you will understand. Everything we are doing is for the two of you. So, take a rest!” Antonio brushed Aehji’s hair and gave it a light tap. “Good night, smorty kid,” Antonio said before he left.
As soon as he closed the door, he rushed downstairs to talk to Aeshua but to his surprise; she was nowhere to be found. He knew the only place to find her. Questions filled Antonio’s head. What could have happened in the West?

On the fly of rage, Aeshua dashed towards Victoria’s house with Rico. She slammed the door, looking for answers. “What happened when I was not around?!” Aeshua bellowed.
“Woah. Woah Calm your horse lady--- Ooohhh what happened to your hair?” Mathias asked.
For a moment, Aeshua’s attention was diverted to her wig. “ Oh shit! It must have fallen when I ran here.”
Rico extended his arm, his face reddish in shame, “ he..here Aeshua. I picked it up earlier on.”
Aeshua snatched the wig on Rico’s hand. “Thanks, Rico.” still with a hard tone, she said. “It’s the least of my concern for now, Mathias. What I want to know is what happened here when I wasn’t around. Where is Jim?” She said, her eyes were sharper than blades, cutting through their composure. “What? Why isn’t anyone telling me anything? What is wrong? Where is Jim?!”
Gasping his breath, Antonio replied “He was taken by someone!”
Aeshua’s sight dimmed. Everyone’s movements slow-moed in her eyes and their voices started to slur in her head. She felt her head spinning, like she was riding a ferris wheel out of control. Her hands turned cold and her face was as pale as snow. She felt her knees tremble and weaken. She had to take a few steps back but she felt icy cold hands touching her everywhere as if they were restraining her. In her eyes, the arms looked like rotting parts of what used to be a breathing human. She shook her head violently and flopped her legs on the floor, slapping every hand that’s touching her.
“Stay away from me!! Stop touching me!” She bellowed while clenching her fist on the floor. She closed her eyes and tried to do a couple of deep breaths and as soon as her eyes opened, she saw Antonio slowly approaching her.
Her chest pounded like crazy and her ears turned red. She raised her finger and pointed at Antonio. Antonio froze for a second. Aeshua’s gaze was not her usual caring eyes. He felt powerless and yet, he told himself that he must talk. He tried his best not to stutter.
“I’m...I’m sorry Aeshua. The night that you left---”
Aeshua’s eyes were focused on Antonio and everything else was blurred at the moment. She wanted to strangle him but compled not to so she threw her satchel to his face. The satchel’s contents flew as it hit Antonio’s face and scattered across the room. One photo got stuck on his cheeks and to his surprise, it was a photo of Carnilla’s incident.
Aeshua saw the surprised look on Antonio’s face and before he could speak another word she turned away. She took a deep breath, trying her best not to lash out once again. Veronica, coming from the other side of the room, approached Aeshua. Aeshua shuddered in surprise. “Let’s get you rested. We have a lot to talk about.” Veronica then commanded Mathias and the rest to clean up and leave matters to her hands. “Aeshua, I asked them to prepare a warm bath and a cup of tea. It will help you calm down and I will tell you everything that has happened these past weeks. In return, you must report to me what happened to you as well.”
The next day, Veronica gathered everyone in the bunker for a meeting. Antonio wanted to approach Aeshua but she won’t even turn her gaze upon him, giving him a hint that she wants nothing to do with him.
“I gathered you here today to inform you about the situation at hand. It seems that the West had a different agenda in mind and used the “cause” for their own gains. They kidnapped Aeshua to convince her to kidnap Melo. Aeshua, on the other hand, requested to have her own team instead which they granted but to make sure that she does according to plan, they kidnapped Jim as collateral.” Veronica explained.
Blag. “That’s insane! We should go there and rescue Jim instead of kidnapping Melo. That’s straight up suicide!” Antonio slammed his hands on the table. He could not believe the preposterous idea the West thought of.
“Calm down, Antonio.” Mathias said. “Let’s hear the details of the plan. I know you are angered by what happened but let’s hear them out.” He then faced Veronica and asked, “So why do they want Melo?”
“Apparently, Czarita’s lover Reign Laurrent,” Veronica handed a file folder to each one of them. “Was captured by Corporal Callos’ guards and she wanted to trade Melo’s freedom in exchange for Reign's life. Czarita, Reign, and Carmilla worked in an operation 4 years ago before Carmilla disappeared.” Veronica added.
“So what’s their plan?” Roana asked.
“Oh come on, guys? Are you insane? Are you going to risk your life for one person? And what is our assurance that they will do their side of the bargain?” Antonio, sounding even more frustrated than ever, stood up and walked around the room while grunting non-stop.
“Life? You call this life, Anton? You, of all people I trusted, lied to me for several years. You, of all people I trusted, allowed Jim to slip off your sight. We barely see the light. We breathe smog everyday. Everyday we fear that the person we are talking to now, won’t be there tomorrow. We live like animals. No, actually, animals live comfortably better than us. We are living in a shithole! This is barely life? I thought we had the same ideals but it seemed you have forgotten what we are fighting for.”
“Everybody, please calm down. Aeshua, what happened to Jim was not Antonio’s intention so I hope you could refrain from blaming it all on him. Let us look at it in a bigger perspective. One way or another, this day will come so I have decided that we will aid them. I’ve also been receiving reports that people were rapidly disappearing in different regions. Bring the children to me while you go on this mission. For now, I need you to be united as one. We only have one week to prepare.” Veronica explained.
Sorry for the late update guys :) Thanks for waiting.
Chapter 11- Worry Free Melo’s morning was peaceful this time. Awakened by his alarm, he had no nightmares and he felt energized to start the day. As usual, Nanny was there to greet him ‘Good morning’ and so were his maids who helped him bath, dress, and fix his room. As he opened his door, he saw the elegant floral wallpapers and smirked knowing that the initial plan was to paint it but later on decided to use wallpaper instead after his mother saw it on sale. The room felt livelier and the added lavenders gave it a calming aura. He ran down the hallway, dashing straight to the dining room. His folks were seated at the dining table, waiting for him with their sweet smiles. They talked for a while and Melo’s father offered to walk Melo to school. Melo hesitated at first, remembering his awful first day in school but he also felt thrilled walking with his dad. This time, he was definitely con
Chapter 12- Greener Pastures “Melo,” Mr. Daetes called on Melo, who was busy tinkering with his old chu-chu train. “ I was wondering…”Mr. Daetes paused for a while as he gently tapped on the seat next to Melo's working table. “Hmmm?” Melo didn’t even take a glance at his father since he was too engrossed in twisting and turning screws attached to his old model train. Mr. Daetes looked at his wife who was standing by the door, signaling him to keep on talking. “Yeah, son, your mom and I were thinking. Would you like to come with us…” A loud tch was heard across the room “I mean me. Would…you like… to come …with me…ahm at work this…coming week?" his dad grinned. "hmm uh-huh. Yeah. Sure, Dad. I don't think I have any other choice, do I?" Melo placed down his screwdriver and turned his chair around to face his dad. "So Dad, what's up next week? We aren’t going on a vacay as you promised, are we?” he asked with a bit of disappointment in his voice. “Well, something came up at work,
Chapter 1- Fresh start Bright light...so bright.. What is this? Where am I? He opened his mouth and water came rushing into his lungs. I can't… I can't breathe. Help me… Is that a hand? Yes! A hand! I just need to reach it but ahhhh… I feel helpless. It's like I'm slowly falling deeper and deeper to the abyss. Who's hand was that? The lights are getting dimmer and dimmer. Where am I? Is there an end to this pit? He gasped for air one last time but swallowed more water and then, he gently cl
Chapter 2- Daetes' Legacy Nanny and Melo walked through the neighborhood. Melo noticed the cobblestone pavement with moss growing on the street sides. Nanny reminded him to be careful not to step on the moss ‘cause it gets slippery and he might fall on his knees. He could also see people walking their pet dogs, kids of his age laughing and running in a group probably off to the same school he was enrolled with. Couples holding hands while walking with their matching t-shirts. Mr. Jenkins, scolding children playing with his morning newspaper. The neighborhood seemed peaceful and calm, of course except for Mr. Jenkins whom Nanny described as Grumpy from the seven little dwarfs. Juende was a small town near Dychophalm city. Nanny told stories about Dychopalm and Juende as they walked to school and from what Melo understo
Chapter 3- A Perfect Day Drrrrr! Crash! Bang! Melo was awoken by crashing and banging happening outside his room. What kind of ruckus is happening? He thought to himself. He slightly opened his eyes but all he saw were the lights peeking through his window blinds, beaming across the room. He scooted to the other side of the bed, facing his big glass window that is covered with white blinds. Then, he slipped two of his fingers in between the blinds and allowed just the right amount of light to pass through. Argh! My eyes! The sudden gush of white
Chapter 4- Unexpected encounterIn the morning, Melo was awoken by the smell of bacon, ham, eggs, and hot chocolate. He felt excited that he got to bond with his parents two times in a row and he hoped that they would bond this way more often than eating together in silence. He crawled his way out of the tent and went straight to the table prepared by the maids. He looked up and could see a glimpse of his parents on the second floor. They were probably still not done with the plans for the living area. Did I outdo it too much? He thought for a while. He was about to ask Nanny but he could not see Nanny anywhere near.“Ahm. Anne.” He said, clearing his throat before he spoke. “Where is Nanny?” He asked“Young master Mrs. Hearty is upstairs
Chapter 5- A Mistake I’m sorry, Dad. Melo opened his mouth but no words came out, not even a sound. He tried some more just to break the deafening silence. His parents sat still, not making eye contact. He could see his father’s hands, clenching tighter and tighter on the wheels, and hearing his mother gritting her teeth. His mother pounded her chest with her fist. Melo was horror-struck. His breathing quickened. He remembered how he felt when he was standing in front of his school door. His mother pounded her chest with her fist, once more. Harder this time. Melo’s vision pulsated as his mother continuously pounded at her chest, harder and harder than the last time. His mother and father gritted their teeth, making eeking sounds, piercing his ears. He opened his mouth again, forcing even a small squeak to come out, but nothing. He tried once more and as the sound of her rhythmic pounding of her chest and the g

The three other younger kids who were out with Aeshua followed after her, still happy and merry that they have found Toro. “That was definitely him.” She walked around the room, biting her fingernails while her hands were fidgeting and cold. “Calm down, Aeshua. Why not sit for a while and take a sip of this nice cup of tea?” TEA?!? Aeshua rushed to her grandmother’s side to see what she brewed this time. “Nana! No! Th

Chapter 9- Quick Detour Swinging like a pendulum, Aeshua felt her head throbbed as it rocked back and forth, banging what seemed to be a bumpy and hard futon causing her to feel dizzy and nauseous. She tried to use her hands and feet but to no avail, both of them were tied tightly and no matter how hard she wiggled, her strength is not enough to cause her carrier to lose his balance. A cloth was stuffed inside her mouth but she still tried to heave and luckily she was able to push the cloth out using her tongue. With the last energy she has, she tried to take a bite on the back of her carrier. He screamed in pain and threw Aeshua on the spring bed in front of her. He grunted. “Carlos! What are you doing?” Czarita exclaimed angrily.
Chapter 8- The Plan “Aeshua, don’t you think this is too rushed for you to decide. We heard about Nana and we are sorry for your loss. Antonio and I could join the infiltration team” Mathias said. Aeshua shook her head, “If there is anyone who has a bit of knowledge in the West side, it’s me.” She lowered her head and spoke in a low voice almost to a whisper, “I can't afford losing someone again.” “Then, let me come with you.” Antonio volunteered. “Negative. We can only have three people on board. They only have limited slots. Besides, miss red-haired here, resembles twenty percent of the population in the West.” Czarita explained. “So, what’s the
Chapter 7- Half Dead Darkness in Phynoisse was not something unusual from its residents but today was different. The stench of burning metal and the taste of blood mixing with the gust of wind, assaulting every senses of Aeshua but how? How could she even think about the sickening smell and view if this was the last time she could be with the only person who stood by her when everyone left and forgot her? For hours, she sat there watching and balling her eyes out in silence. She tried to stay strong. She had to. Who will take care of Jim and the twins? She thought. Nana was the only living relative of the twins. By blood, Nana wasn’t related with Aeshua but Nana’s daughter was the one who saved Aeshua from that dreaded night. The night she was banished to Phynoisse. Without a home and anyone to run to, Aeshua sat in the corner for days covered with dried up mud and moss. One night, Carmilla, Nana’s daughter, just so happens to pass by
