Ainar blinked fast, caught off-guard. He tilted his head to the right, eyes focused on the omega in front of him. Did he hear that right?
“Pardon?” he asked in reply, not really sure if he heard him right.
Gavin scoffed, briefly looking away before looking back to meet the alpha’s gaze again.
“I asked you. Should we mate?” he repeated. And this time, Ainar is sure he heard him right.
“G-Gavin, what are you saying?” Ainar stuttered out a reply. What is the omega saying? Why so sudden?
“Your rut is near. Don’t you think this is the perfect opportunity to mate?” Gavin said almost nonchalantly, not even a shake in his voice but Ainar could see the way the omega is fiddling with his fingers.
“We have been pushing it off for my sake anyway. So, IIt’s been days since Gavin last got out of his shack. It’s like he was back to square one, back when he still wasn’t comfortable to come out. His meals are delivered by Maya. Although the guilt of giving her extra work by doing that is bugging him, the embarrassment of the outcome of his conversation with Ainar is eating him up. Now that he had time to think about everything, he feels silly. What was that even about? What was he thinking when he said all those things? He remembers the alpha’s disappointed gaze, the hurt in his voice and the sadness that tinged his scent. Gavin wants to punch himself for doing that to the alpha. But at the same time, he’s trying to justify himself, trying to find things that would convince himself that maybe, what he did isn’t wrong. Was it? He suggested to mate. Ainar mentioned that the elders have been getting impatient. He is merely making things easier for the both of them. At the back of his mind, he could hear Ainar’s voice asking him. ‘Are yo
The Moon Valley Pack is somewhere in between traditional and not. There are certain things that runs in the pack that are obviously still rooted in that traditional upbringing, such thing as discrimination against rank is one of them. But through the years, with the many leaders and pack alphas that have ruled the pack, they have slowly moved past that mentality and have evolved since. But of course, there are still things that just cannot be erased in history, namely their dynamics and rank, most especially when it comes to the omegas of the pack.Ainar is a son of an omega breeder. His parents, both alphas and in need of an heir, asked help from an omega to conceive. It took a lot of talks and trust on both sides, and eventually Ainar was born.Unfortunately, Diana, his birth mother, died during her labor. Ainar did not get to know her but he loved her nonetheless. He grew up hearing stories of her kindness and selflessness. Ainar grew up hearing the stories of his brave mother and
Gavin knows he’s dreaming. God, it’s an all too familiar scenario by now. He knows everything he’s seeing are all just part of his dreams, but he could not help but feel like it’s real. Maybe because at some point in his life, it was.The scene is different this time. He’s still in the forest, and everything is still bathed in darkness, but he’s not running this time. He’s hiding. His small frame is squeezed behind a big fallen tree. Both his hands are covering his mouth. He is breathing pretty heavily, as he’d been running. His eyes, despite his poor eyesight, is frantically looking around. He cannot see beyond the darkness that is blanketing the vast forest. His heart is beating so fast in his chest that he’s afraid it might actually jump out.The thing is, he knows stopping probably wasn’t the smartest decision. Hiding won’t do much for him. They can just easily find him through his scent. But he’s tired. Bone tired. His feet are bleeding from tirelessly running barefoot in the for
The next time Gavin opened his eyes, it was to darkness. He’s lying somewhere soft but he could not figure out where he was beyond his clouded senses and vision. For a second, he thought he was dreaming again, panic immediately settled in his chest, his breathing quickly turning erratic. An involuntary whine built up in his throat, high and pitchy—a distressed call. His body grew taut with tension, legs curling close to his chest as he threaded closer to another pit of panic attack when a door to his left burst open. He could not see the person well, with the sudden flood of light blinding him, but he was able to catch his scent. It was Ainar.Gavin stretched his arms, reaching for him and producing another distressed whine somewhere deep within his chest and immediately, the alpha was on him. The mattress Gavin was lying on dipped against the alpha’s weight, and suddenly, Gavin was pulled into the alpha’s arms. Gavin quickly cuddled up, wrapping his limbs around the alpha and pressin
The warm hands cupping Gavin’s cheeks is the only thing keeping him grounded at the moment. The soft mattress dipping under his weight, the darkness of Ainar’s cabin with only a few candles providing them of small light and the akoha’s spoiled scent is barely keeping him afloat. Gavin took a sharp intake of breath. Ainar is silent in front of him, his mouth is open but not a single word has come out of his mouth after the omega’s confession. He has been silent, but his eyes are loud, glinting gold in the darkness of the room, and even more so, his scent, that is struggling to remain neutral in an attempt to soothe the distressed omega despite the anger that is threatening to implode.“How long?” Ainar asked in a whisper, his eyes are searching. Gavin hiccupped, hesitant to answer but he opened his mouth to speak.“Since I presented.”
Ainar is angry—no, scratch that—he’s fucking livid. He can feel the gazes of the pack members lingering on him as he passed by them, probably wondering why the pack alpha’s son is waking around while radiating and smelling of so much rage, but he paid them no mind. The events of the past days, especially for those who had been there to witness, were already enough of an answer as to why the alpha is in his current state, others murmured against each other, asking for answers, shutting their mouths once they hear it. Other times, Ainar would have stopped to greet them, especially the older ones as they seemed fond of him, but not today. He had a definite destination in mind, and he can’t wait to finally get there. Ainar would have preferred staying in his shack with Gavin. Already, he misses the omega’s warm body against his own, his small hands clutching onto his tunic, the warm puffs of air leaving his parted mouth as he slept, and the way he seems to unconsciously scoot closer to t
Gavin woke up to the feeling of slender fingers gently carding through his silvery white locks. He hummed in content as he felt Ainar shift from somewhere beside him, scooting closer to the warmth and pushing his head further into the touch. He heard a fond chuckle, making way for a smile on his own lips before he decided to open his eyes, blearily blinking up at the alpha.“Slept well?” the alpha asked as he looked down at Gavin fondly. His voice sounds deeper in the morning, causing a pleasant shiver to run through Gavin’s body. Ainar watched the omega stretch his body on the soft mattress, sleepy eyes staring up at him.“Hmm,” Gavin hummed, closing his eyes again as he fought the haze of sleep still clouding his system. His hands reached out to Ainar, which the alpha immediately took, and intertwined their fingers. Gavin made another contented sound from deep within his chest.
Gavin has been staying in Ainar’s cabin for days now. He politely asked the alpha if he could go back to his own shack now, but Ainar insisted on him to stay there. He doesn’t say it but it actually made him feel relieved, knowing that he doesn’t really think he could stand to be alone again, yet, after everything that happened. But he did quickly drop by his shack—still with Ainar of course, at this point he thinks the alpha won’t let him go anywhere without company—to get some of his tunic. The alpha had been providing him of his own clothes for the past days too. And as much as Gavin likes it, likes the idea of wearing his alpha’s clothes and being drenched with his scent all the time, the clothes are actually not that comfortable to wear with it being too big for him given their obvious size difference.Aside from the security he feels with the alpha, another thing he noticed is the extra attention. Don’t get him wrong, Ainar had always paid attention to him even before. The alpha
