Misunderstanding

Upon parting ways with Reggie, she said she'd try Carlos again and let me know. She also said Carlos is an Alux, or a descendant rather. He lost most his Fae abilities from his bloodline being watered down with the humane race. He is, however, good at finding safe houses and blending in the shadows.

Walking down the main strip, I could see the old-fashioned street lights start to flicker. It was already 7 and the sun was kissing the tops of the sharp peaked mountains in the background. West City is beautiful through every season. Standing on the main strip you can see mountains to the left, soft rolling hills to the right and if you stand still, you can get a whiff of the massive open ocean behind you, though kind of far, the smell is always hitching a ride on the breeze in this direction.

I continued walking for a few more minutes until I could see Cornell Plaza start to loom above the shops and eateries that lined main street. Looking silvery from the direction I was walking due to all the butted one by one windows it boasted. I never understood why tall business buildings needed so many windows.

Coming up on the Plaza I could see from a distance, security framing the doors. I decided confusion and poor lost female worked best on gaining entry. Cash wasn't expecting me and I didn't have his number. I also thought of looking up and calling the main number to ask for him. It was better than the bomb threat, but the events of being connected to a secretary, her asking who I am, then her in breakroom, whispering how the CEO got a call from an unknown female, I wisely decided against it also.

As luck would have it, several food delivery motorbikes just pulled up for the evening dinner delivery. Dinner. With my stomach growling at the thought, I had to hush it with the promise of all you could eat wings if it'd just wait a bit longer. Grumbling a bit more, it digressed. I picked the guy getting off the nicer looking bike, I prayed my appearance wasn't too scary and approached him. I'd come up with the idea of trying to go in as a delivery person.

"Hi ya!" He startled a little bit at my words of perkiness, turned to me and lifted the shield to his helmet.

"Uh, hey." He was a bit younger but from the facial features I could see his eyes were a nice blue and strong nose. I could also tell he was human. His soul hummed at me a bit and that's most cases a sure sign. He did form a smile after his eyes came into focus, which meant I made a foot forward.

"I really need a favor, can you help me?" going for helpless tone here, he looked a bit confused but interested. He looked down at his watch, so I knew he was on a time constraint.

"Ah, well I ..." he tried responding but I cut off his words.

"I can take that in there for you and even pay for it now. I will also pay you for the day and buy your nice shiny helmet too! Sound like a deal?" I gave him a full tooth grin and he looked at my teeth, probably checking if I was an Other, and then smiled in return. Though the amount he told me was probably way over then his usual take home for the day, and the helmet was being paid for at a new cost rather then used, I felt relieved I didn't have to deal with security.

I pulled my phone out and entered the amount through a money send app, and once I heard his ding, I snatch the bag of food from the basket and held my hand out for the helmet. When he lifted his helmet, I was really not expecting him to be so gosh darn good looking.

Sandy waves fell just on his shoulders, making his eyes suddenly sparkle, and that chin, oh my, he was blessed with the prince charming jaw line! Like something straight out of a children's classic. My heart did a little pitter pat until I finally took a good once over with my eyes and realized my heart was suddenly playing the bongos. What is wrong with me? I mentally slapped my cheeks and met his gaze again as I took the helmet from him.

"Names Ayda, and thank you, you really saved me here," I blurted as I smashed on the helmet that was too big, and headed for the main door. I wanted to look back, why I didn't look back can only be a result of stupidity and knowing it would never work. Too bad, hard finding a love life when you to busy protecting someone else's body.

I was nervous coming up to the overly secured doors. I could tell the 2 wolves on either side were feeling around with their aura. They wouldn't feel anything from me, I could bank on that.

I pulled off the receipt stuck to the bag and handed it to one of the wolves standing there. He had a few inches on Cash but his broadness paled in comparison. His dark sunglasses almost looked ridiculous in the dimming of the day. He looked over the receipt, but something chimed in his ear piece. He lifted his glasses to look at me, then flatly told me 13th floor. I nodded okay.

I stifled my giggle. Due to most buildings omitting a 13th due to superstation or structural issues, it was ironic that a building owned by an Other would have a 13th floor.

I went in through the set of rotating doors. I always just wanted to push them in circles for fun. I went up to the badge scanner ports and handed the receipt again to the female security standing there. She was human, but her eyes were scanning every single detail of the comings and goings of the main entry, footsteps of busy workers echoing. I hoped they paid her better, brains over brawn I say. She glanced at the receipt and gave me a long, too long once over with her eyes. I lifted the shield to the helmet and did my best to smile with my eyes.

She must have had an inner dialog before she handed my back the receipt as it took her a moment. She then grabbed her radio that was perched at her shoulder, and I could hear the crackle as she pushed a button.

"Hey Bob, do we have food orders on the top floor?"  there was some more crackling than a deep familiar voice responded.

"Confirmed, we have." I thought for a moment I recognized the voice, but I just smiled harder wishing I had gotten Cash's number then deal with this.

After nodding and telling me 13th floor, again, she pushed a release button to let me though. I made a bee line to the elevators and had to restrain my feet from dancing because I had succeeded.

I pushed the up arrow to the elevator and watched as the numbers made their decent to what floor I was on. There weren't a lot of people waiting by me at the elevators, but I noticed there were only and handful of double elevator doors.

The elevator door opened and to my surprise Cash stood there. I threw up the helmet's shield and loudly said his name, but it ended in a yelp due to how fast he grabbed my arm and pulled me into the elevator. After he peered out slightly from both sides, he ducked back in and started smashing buttons to get it to close. Once the doors slid shut, he calmly tapped the stop button, pulled out his phone.

"Cameras of on elevator 3". Hearing that my heart tossed her hair. I felt an argument coming on. I was mentally preparing myself when I heard 'Yes Mr. Cornell' come over the phone in a gruff voice as Cash looked up at the camera. I followed suit and could see the little camera light go from green to red then nothing. Did they pull the damn plug or something? With a huge breath out, he must have been holding, he turned to me with a look of worry and anger.

  • Wings of Momentum   Facing A Hiccup

I turned to Steve, his attitude had pushed me a little too far, and I exploded, “Look, I’m so close to saying screw it and putting you back in the metal box before both our asses become kindling for Angel’s fire. You seem to think proving you innocent is my purpose in life, but you’re wrong, STEVE. I am only doing this because I can’t live with a guilty conscience or the possibility of one!” I was huffing, trying to gather my breath. Rarely did I snap like that, but my cool mindset had flown over the railing and tumbled down several flights of stairs. “I don’t know where the guy is, but this was our only hope, Steve, so please, just be quiet and let me breathe.” He stared at me momentarily and cocked his head before looking at the door marked 2C. I looked, too, and the door was opened with an older man staring at us. “Mr. Arubergy?” He nodded and stuck his head out, looking around. “Come in, come in, hurry now,” he said, waving at us to be quick. “Please remove your shoes. I a

  • Wings of Momentum   Is That It ?

Steve's sudden question made me jump, and he grasped my hand harder, saying, “It’s worse than this. Unlike vampires who can sleep for eternity in solitude or fairies who can use their magic to fill nothingness with light and valuables, demons can only wait and listen, hoping to hear what’s happening outside the nothingness.” A slight shake in his voice made me feel horrible all of a sudden, but I couldn’t play into it no matter how bad I felt, “Well, do the crime, and you’ll eventually do time, Steve. I didn’t make those rules back then, but I still have to follow them today.” “Be lucky you didn’t end up with Groves. He had a basement full of tiny glass boxes that held his bounty captures. They could see out, and he would play reruns of commercials 24/7 on a black-and-white box t.v. for them to watch. Talk about torture. At least Reggie would talk to all of you,” Trixie piped in, obviously not feeling bad for Steve. “Sorry if I don’t seem grateful, but in all respect, I wasn’t supp

  • Wings of Momentum   Corner Of Bliss Black Hole

After my threat of turning his human body into a skunk, Steve complied, and we headed in my care to Corner of Bliss café. The silence was tolerable other than his constant shifting in the passenger seat, looking around. Finding a place to park was tricky, Corner of Bliss was a hopping little café with free Wi-Fi, and it’d been around long enough to have a mass number of Others that were loyal and frequented the place. Of course, humans always found their way there but were welcomed just the same. “Good morning, dears. What can I... get you?” Beth's pause was expected, she was something Ayda and I could never figure out, so I wasn’t sure if she would sense something about Steve. “Just two coffees, please. Is Trixie still here?” Still staring at Steve, she smiled and nodded toward the café window. Trixie was leaning across the booth’s table and chatting up the new waiter. I can't say I blame him. The guy was gorgeous. “Thanks,” I said while she was staring at Steve. “I don’t thin

  • Wings of Momentum   Burnt Toast And Sincere Looks

I sat up feeling stiff, sore, and sleep deprived as the sound of my phone dinging by my bed woke me, followed by clanking sounds from the kitchen. I checked it and saw that it was Pheral who had messaged me. “Good morning, beautiful. I miss you. Everything is the same here, one meeting after another. I may never see the day when I am free of the pack. I’m sorry.” His message hit home, and I held back my tears. I missed him, too, and my heart ached for his hugs and sweet words when we were alone. Never leave the pack? I may end up threatening Cash to let Pheral go as he promised. Taking a deep breath through my nose, I caught the scent of smoke, and when I heard Steve yell, “Bloody Hell,” followed by the sounds of water, I shot out of bed and went straight into the kitchen. “What are you...” I was asking, but before I could finish, he stammered, “Can’t you see I’m making breakfast?” Seeing burnt eggs in the pan and black toast on a plate made me laugh uncontrollably. “Why a

  • Wings of Momentum   Simple Kiss

“He’s in Heaven,” saying it in such an evident tone, Steve shrugged and then looked at Michael. We stared at him with our jaws open before I asked, “In Heaven, how do you know?” “Last I heard, he was dying, and an Angel promised him a one-way pass straight upstairs. But, of course, that was back before I got stuck with that killer driving us around and murdering people. So I assume that’s where he must be,” Steve answered, but it didn’t help us because it wasn’t like Heaven was next door, and we could just knock asking to borrow a dead necromancer. “If it was that simple, Michael could have someone up there locate one of the souls of the women that were murdered and ask her personally. But, unfortunately, there’s a lot more to it, paperwork and approvals. Heaven isn’t just chaos and paradise. They are structured, Steve, so a dead necromancer would be hard to locate without going through the proper channels. And keep in mind, Heaven gets word a demon, especially one that was sentenc

  • Wings of Momentum   A Suggestion

After busying myself around my house and battling dust bunnies, Trixie arrived. “Girl, you don’t even know the chaos that went on while you were kidnapped! That Angel was the only one to keep me informed until Zin finally came to the club two days ago, looking like someone had kicked his puppy. He said Ayda had been transported to Hell, but he wouldn’t elaborate. So what’s going on? How are you, and why didn’t you let me know you were safe?” I hugged him after he shut the door and sat on the couch. “I’m fine, as you can see. But sit next to me, and I will give you the full rundown,” I responded, patting the seat next to me. Trixie was a woman’s hottest wet dream, but he preferred the silent solid type equipped with three legs instead of one. He was carrying a bag and pulled out a beer before lying on the couch next to me. “Alright, spill it, don’t leave out a single detail!” From point A to point Z, I told him about the kidnapping, the wolves and shifters that saved me as
