Chapter: Braced Against Tile
It was Tener. Standing there with one hand holding the towel closed and the other on the stall, he looked at her with deep blue eyes. Water was dripping from his tawny hair plastered along the side of a very trim, muscular arm. She could see the muscles on his stomach rippling south below the towel. Letting out a loud squeak, Purity turned, hiding her face, “TENER! This is the women's shower!” He didn't respond, but she could feel the burn of his gaze on her naked backside. At that point, the shower sound was muted because she clearly heard the slip and drop of his towel. “What are you doing?” she asked, still hiding her face, not daring to turn around. Suddenly warm, gentle hands slipped up her waist and beneath her arms before gently cupping her full breasts. “Shhh, don’t move…,” he said, pressing his hardness against her backside and leaning to her ear. Purity was stuck. She didn’t want this, even as she protested, but something in her made her stay still and not resist, “Te

Chapter: Shower Thoughts
Johnathan's laughter rang through the phone as Lasci started to undress to ready his wolf, "What's so funny?" he asked, kicking off his shoes. "A moment, please, let me gather myself," Johnathan said, trying to calm the laughter, "You have no need to rush out as if saving the day, Lasci. The shifter is harmless. We've already had a nice chat over the phone, and as for Purity, I will say she's enjoying her dominance over Tener. I brought them to the gym for some blood-pumping exercise and discipline. It turns out our Purity is quite the little fox when it comes to handling your brother. She has had him on his back several times after learning only a few moves. I admire her capabilities, to be honest." Lasci took a deep breath and leaned against the wall in the foyer, "You took them to the gym, for a date?" "Yes, why? It's perfectly normal, and it allows them to be close physically. Is there something wrong with that, Lasci?" As much as Lasci wanted to yell into the phone, "YES

Chapter: Bastian's Certainty
Bastian smirked, “Thought you’d find that worth staying in my company for a moment. After your bad form toward my love, everyone left the dinner table. So, eventually, I found myself waiting on her balcony with no intention of eavesdropping. But, mind you, it just happened that way. I must have caught the tail end of something because one minute, they were talking about your nasty declaration, and the next, the female wolf was attempting to open the balcony door. I was about to hide myself when your brother, Pru, came in the bedroom door and caught her attempting to leave.” Lasci shook his head, irritated, “You’re telling me something I already know, Bastian. Get on with it, or I’ll lose my patience.” Bastian smiled innocently, “I’m getting there, be patient. Now, where was I? Oh yes, her leaving and your brother coming in. So they had exchanged a few words, and the female wolf left.” Bastian acted like that was the end of it, and Lasci snapped, “You’re wasting my time.” “

Chapter: No Sign
Lasci paced the floor, his mind on edge about Purity and everything he said the night before. Now that Fahal had left, he was worried Purity might hate him even more. The front door opened, breaking his thoughts when Pru came in. “Any luck?” Prus shook his head, “Nothing. She’s either covered her trail perfectly or had help.” Running his hands desperately through his hair Lasci swore, “Fuck, I bet that vampire helped her. Where is he?” “I haven’t seen him since dinner last night. It’s possible he helped her leave, but we can’t be certain. If the female wolf was here, in fact, looking for a mate, I doubt she would have left regardless of what the situation was. Not all of us will be mated to Purity, so she had a chance. If you ask me, I think she was just looking for a place to hide before moving on. Refuge, in a manner of speaking.” Lasci nodded in agreement but still felt uneasy about it, “What do you think we should tell Purity? 'Her newfound companion just up and left b

Chapter: Sometimes It's A Smile
Purity watched as Johnathan threw a wave out the van’s window and drove off. She was nervous about being left in Tener’s care but decided she could fend for herself by turning away from him and heading straight into the kitty café. Small mews from the kittens in a small enclosed sitting area reached her ears, and the smell of baked goods and tea filled her nose. A standing sign greeted her and read, “Find your seat, lift your feet, and get cozy. Our fluffy friends will find their way to you. They are well behaved and will let you enjoy your meal in peace (All cooked breakfast is chef’s choice, baked items are created fresh every morning.).” Purity giggled because at that moment, a large, short-haired tabby rubbed against her legs and meowed loudly, demanding attention. “Awe, aren’t you precious? Come here, big guy,” Purity cooed as she picked up the tabby to cuddle him. “Welcome! Sit anywhere you’d like, and I’ll be with you shortly,” a cheery male voice said from behind a high d

Chapter: Found On The Beach
Linux dropped Josey off, and she felt a bit of relief being home. Tarrin was his usual arrogant self in the end, and she felt stupid for feeling maybe he had warmed up to her. Turning her phone off, she decided it was officially the weekend and wouldn’t answer it for anything unless it was Emily or Cece. “See how you like that. Answer your own emails!” Yelling it out as she set her phone down, Josey plopped on the couch and stared at the TV. The apartment was quiet, and the sudden lack of noise made her uncomfortable, so she decided to head over to Cibus street and check out the food markets near the water. “Three for a dollar or two pounds for three dollars!” The vendors called out, enticing passersby with their catches of the day or homemade goods. The smell of cooked fish and bread filled the air as Josey casually strolled by each colorful stall. She even ran into Mr. Huen, who gave her a tough front but treated her to free fish bites in the end. Seeing one of her favorite

Chapter: Missed Chance
Josey shrugged, “I think I already mentioned it once. He used to show up in the warehouse when my parents were working. His Father’s office was nearby at the time, so Jared would hang out with me as I waited for dad to finish for the day,” she replied finally and then said softly, “He was there the day it happened.” Tarrin knew what she was talking about but asked, “The day the fire happened?” Josey nodded and responded, “Yes, he showed up right as I was about to run in there. Damn, he hasn’t changed one bit now that I think about it.” “There is something oddly familiar about that guy, I’m telling you. It isn’t safe for him to be around her, Tarrin.” Tarrin nodded silently at both Josey's comment and the wolf’s warning. Once Mara returns, he will know more about this Mr. Hunter from Rapture investments. When they finally reached the house, Linux spoke up, “Hey, I, uh, think I’m gonna crash at home today.” Tarrin faked a cough again and said, “I’d rather you be at the house

Chapter: Coughing Exit
“Hey, that’s not funny! I get your point. Let’s focus now, please... geesh,” the wolf whined. Tarrin smiled with satisfaction that it worked. Josey was waiting anxiously for Emily to come up on stage, and Tarrin’s mind went to something else. Before the interlude ended, Tarrin leaned over and peeked through a small opening in the heavy red curtain. He could see directly where Jared and Olana sat in the reserved booth. Olana was smiling and then leaned over and whispered something to Jared, and he nodded and whispered back. Did they really know each other? Were they responsible for Josey getting stuck on the roof if that’s the case? Both of them had been at the building that day, and Jared’s coat looked identical to the one in the CCTV footage. He made a note to mention it to Mara when the recital was over. If those two were friends, then they may be working together. But for what purpose? Was Jared one of the hunters or related to the ones that killed his father? “You’re ful

Chapter: A Different View
Tarrin and Josey were ushered to the VIP seating, where they could see the concert hall’s stage. It was a perk of Tarrin’s company funding the upgrades of the hall and supporting the students. “I’m impressed. Who knew I would end up inside someone with such pull,” the wolf commented in Tarrin’s head. Grinning in a cocky manner, Tarrin sat next to Josey, secretly glancing at her. “Wow, I can’t believe the number of people here for the recitals. I bet Emily’s nervous,” Josey said, looking over the seated crowd below. Tarrin nodded, “The recital is a good start for many students planning their musical future. Scouts and certain company exec’s come looking for a promising start to represent.” “Speaking of company executives, do you smell that? I think it’s, damn, we have company,” the wolf whispered in Tarrin’s mind. Tarrin rolled his eyes and looked around. He didn’t know what he was smelling, but then the familiar cologne of Jared Hunter hit his nose before he spotted the CEO

Chapter: Wolf Chatter
Tarrin watched as Josey hesitated, looking at the many dishes in front of her. “Look, if you want to apologize for yesterday, apology accepted. You don’t have to go through all this for me. I’m just your employee,” she said, looking at him confused and glancing at the tulip bouquet on the table’s edge. Tarrin cleared his throat, “I... I know. This isn’t an apology. I’m in the public eye, so having you dressed properly is strictly for my benefit. Eating is just a necessity, and I was craving the food here, which you also benefit from. I didn’t want you, I mean us, going and sitting through the recital with our stomachs growling.” Tarrin glanced at her, trying to read her response, but she simply nodded and gently grabbed a bite of food. In the background, the sound of the violin played in tune with the waterfall while they ate in peace. Now and then, Tarrin caught himself stealing glances at Josey. He was still enamored by how beautiful she looked. “Say something. You’re blowing

Chapter: Facing A Hiccup
I turned to Steve, his attitude had pushed me a little too far, and I exploded, “Look, I’m so close to saying screw it and putting you back in the metal box before both our asses become kindling for Angel’s fire. You seem to think proving you innocent is my purpose in life, but you’re wrong, STEVE. I am only doing this because I can’t live with a guilty conscience or the possibility of one!” I was huffing, trying to gather my breath. Rarely did I snap like that, but my cool mindset had flown over the railing and tumbled down several flights of stairs. “I don’t know where the guy is, but this was our only hope, Steve, so please, just be quiet and let me breathe.” He stared at me momentarily and cocked his head before looking at the door marked 2C. I looked, too, and the door was opened with an older man staring at us. “Mr. Arubergy?” He nodded and stuck his head out, looking around. “Come in, come in, hurry now,” he said, waving at us to be quick. “Please remove your shoes. I a

Chapter: Is That It ?
Steve's sudden question made me jump, and he grasped my hand harder, saying, “It’s worse than this. Unlike vampires who can sleep for eternity in solitude or fairies who can use their magic to fill nothingness with light and valuables, demons can only wait and listen, hoping to hear what’s happening outside the nothingness.” A slight shake in his voice made me feel horrible all of a sudden, but I couldn’t play into it no matter how bad I felt, “Well, do the crime, and you’ll eventually do time, Steve. I didn’t make those rules back then, but I still have to follow them today.” “Be lucky you didn’t end up with Groves. He had a basement full of tiny glass boxes that held his bounty captures. They could see out, and he would play reruns of commercials 24/7 on a black-and-white box t.v. for them to watch. Talk about torture. At least Reggie would talk to all of you,” Trixie piped in, obviously not feeling bad for Steve. “Sorry if I don’t seem grateful, but in all respect, I wasn’t supp

Chapter: Corner Of Bliss Black Hole
After my threat of turning his human body into a skunk, Steve complied, and we headed in my care to Corner of Bliss café. The silence was tolerable other than his constant shifting in the passenger seat, looking around. Finding a place to park was tricky, Corner of Bliss was a hopping little café with free Wi-Fi, and it’d been around long enough to have a mass number of Others that were loyal and frequented the place. Of course, humans always found their way there but were welcomed just the same. “Good morning, dears. What can I... get you?” Beth's pause was expected, she was something Ayda and I could never figure out, so I wasn’t sure if she would sense something about Steve. “Just two coffees, please. Is Trixie still here?” Still staring at Steve, she smiled and nodded toward the café window. Trixie was leaning across the booth’s table and chatting up the new waiter. I can't say I blame him. The guy was gorgeous. “Thanks,” I said while she was staring at Steve. “I don’t thin

Chapter: Burnt Toast And Sincere Looks
I sat up feeling stiff, sore, and sleep deprived as the sound of my phone dinging by my bed woke me, followed by clanking sounds from the kitchen. I checked it and saw that it was Pheral who had messaged me. “Good morning, beautiful. I miss you. Everything is the same here, one meeting after another. I may never see the day when I am free of the pack. I’m sorry.” His message hit home, and I held back my tears. I missed him, too, and my heart ached for his hugs and sweet words when we were alone. Never leave the pack? I may end up threatening Cash to let Pheral go as he promised. Taking a deep breath through my nose, I caught the scent of smoke, and when I heard Steve yell, “Bloody Hell,” followed by the sounds of water, I shot out of bed and went straight into the kitchen. “What are you...” I was asking, but before I could finish, he stammered, “Can’t you see I’m making breakfast?” Seeing burnt eggs in the pan and black toast on a plate made me laugh uncontrollably. “Why a

Chapter: Simple Kiss
“He’s in Heaven,” saying it in such an evident tone, Steve shrugged and then looked at Michael. We stared at him with our jaws open before I asked, “In Heaven, how do you know?” “Last I heard, he was dying, and an Angel promised him a one-way pass straight upstairs. But, of course, that was back before I got stuck with that killer driving us around and murdering people. So I assume that’s where he must be,” Steve answered, but it didn’t help us because it wasn’t like Heaven was next door, and we could just knock asking to borrow a dead necromancer. “If it was that simple, Michael could have someone up there locate one of the souls of the women that were murdered and ask her personally. But, unfortunately, there’s a lot more to it, paperwork and approvals. Heaven isn’t just chaos and paradise. They are structured, Steve, so a dead necromancer would be hard to locate without going through the proper channels. And keep in mind, Heaven gets word a demon, especially one that was sentenc

Chapter: A Suggestion
After busying myself around my house and battling dust bunnies, Trixie arrived. “Girl, you don’t even know the chaos that went on while you were kidnapped! That Angel was the only one to keep me informed until Zin finally came to the club two days ago, looking like someone had kicked his puppy. He said Ayda had been transported to Hell, but he wouldn’t elaborate. So what’s going on? How are you, and why didn’t you let me know you were safe?” I hugged him after he shut the door and sat on the couch. “I’m fine, as you can see. But sit next to me, and I will give you the full rundown,” I responded, patting the seat next to me. Trixie was a woman’s hottest wet dream, but he preferred the silent solid type equipped with three legs instead of one. He was carrying a bag and pulled out a beer before lying on the couch next to me. “Alright, spill it, don’t leave out a single detail!” From point A to point Z, I told him about the kidnapping, the wolves and shifters that saved me as
