“Yes love, I have waited all my life to tell you this, I can’t believe it’s finally happening.”
He kneels in front of me, smiling with flushed cheeks.
As he reaches his pocket to find the ring box, there is a loud sound from my right.
I close my eyes in frustration as if it would help the sound to turn down.
But the sound was getting more and more loud, pressing my eyes tightly. I open my eyes; so that I could at least see his pretty face.
My vision blurs and slowly it starts to get clear. But instead of seeing the love of my life a.k.a Shawn Mendes, I see my baby blue silk pillowcase. I look at my tableside clock, the time flashed, four am.
“Ugh, it was a dream again, Lord, when will this happen for real!”
On cue, my phone stops blaring.
I look up and whisper, “Should I take it as a sign, am I going to unite with the love of my life?”
My phone once again blares with its characteristic monotone ringtone. But, the problem is that more than hating that, I don’t like the name of the person that is flashing.
By the way, where are my manners, Hello everyone, I am Savannah Jones, everyone calls me Sav. Nice to meet you!
There is nothing special about me if I am being honest; I am just a quiet girl with a crazy mind.
So coming back to the mysterious caller, it’s none other than my lovely mother, Sophia Jones.
You all might wonder, why is she is calling me in this ungodly hour. That’s sadly not the only weird part; we legit live in the same house.
Angrily, I put my phone in silence and walk out of my room, with the mission to give her a piece of my mind.
As I walk in the hallway to her room, my dad comes out of nowhere, we both jump in surprise.
There was a high-pitched scream, let’s just say it wasn’t me.
Also, I just woke up so I didn’t even comb my hair or wash my face. So, I look like I walked out of a horror movie. So I don’t blame him for that scream.
Meet my dad, Matthew Jones, a lawyer by profession and dad by default. He is fun and loving all the time, but becomes a different person when his patience withers.
“God Sav, why do you do this all the time? How many times, I have told you to talk or give some sound. Please, don’t sneak up like this again!”
He asks in his pleading tone with underlying anger.
“Ok dad! You are not the one who got startled, I did as well. By the way, where is mom?”
I ask avoiding his tone and for some unknown reason, he is in a hurry.
So as always, he doesn’t answer me and walks away.
I walk into their room; to my surprise, my mom is in her zone, with music blasting through speakers, she is moving all around the place, taking things from one side and packaging it on the other side.
“Mom, what’s up? Why did you call me this early, also how many times have I told you not to call me when we are within a walkable distance?”
My voice losing its sound with each word, slowly, she raises her head from the cartoon which is now filled to the brim.
“Savannah Marie Jones, you are still not dressed?” She screams.
“What? It’s only four now mom? You said we have to be there in Washington at eight, right?”
I ask in a confused tone.
“You just don’t listen properly right? Even five-year-olds are more attentive than you Savannah!”
She says huffing and continued filling the other carton.
Yeah, forgot to update you guys, my mother is a kindergarten math teacher, a very sweet one too. All the kids love her as they love math.
Still confused, but knowing that, if I even breathe the damn will surely burst. I quietly go to my room and start dressing. Because there is no way in the hell I am going to take a shower now.
I wear a loose black T-shirt and ripped jeans and was happy I didn't look like a stuffed teddy bear and put on my trusted vans. Trust me, I am not one of those skinny-ass people, I am a girl with some meat on bones.
As I was making the sandwiches for the trip to Washington, I was wondering why she screamed at me. As I was placing the lettuce over the slice of ham, it finally hit me.
We were moving from Oakland to Washington and the time difference is three hours, thus the confusion. Suddenly my dad starts screaming my name from the hall.
"Sav can you find the tape?"
Shit, there is another thing you have to know about my dad, which is a classic dad feature. I have a deadline of one minute to find the darn tape and give it to him. If not, let’s just not go over there for safety reasons.
As usual, I get distracted by my tasty sandwiches and I munch on them also, I couldn’t find it.
My dad screams from the hall "Savannah Marie Jones if you don't come back with the tape! You don't get to sit in the front seat today, in the car".
Okay, now the matter has gone serious ten folds than usual, because the one, who sits in the front seat, is only the one in charge of playing the music.
Now being determined, I vigorously start searching and I find it under the table.
"Hakuna Matata, Savannah saves the day." I laugh at my own words and my dad just gives me a plain look.
Blaming it on his lack of appreciating good humor, I walk back to my room and start packing the last-minute stuff.
After one long hour of checking and re-checking if I left my things. I run up to the door taking my dad's Nissan Rogue car keys and start filling up the trunk.
After another hour of me being the clumsy queen, I broke the new glass light lamp and was close to breaking the vase of 100 years old into pieces; we were ready to say the official goodbye to the flat which was our home for the past five years.
The trip went fast as I slept off for most of it. As we were taking the turn our new house comes into view. It is a classic American home with a small garden in front.
I rushed in, the moment my dad opened the lock and ran to the nearest bathroom, I regret drinking the Starbucks dragon fresher grande on my own.
After relieving myself I found myself walking to my new room. It was a normal-sized room with pale yellow walls and a big window which was facing our neighbor's house.
Not to sound like a creep, but I wanted to see a shirtless guy working out, looks at me then he will wink at me, we will fall in love and then live happily ever after.
But to my cliché mind's defeat, I see an old man cleaning the window. Hitting myself in the back of my head, I was off to see what my family was up to.
I saw my mom setting up the kitchen, my dad fixing up the television, and the movers bringing the cartons into the house. I skim through the luggage and take my two suitcases to the room.
I regretted the moment I got on the stairs, Damn what did I pack in it? A zoo?
After ten minutes of pure struggle and sweat, I was in my room and hours after blasting my ears with Shawn Mendes and Ariana Grande songs. My room was all set to live.
I had my very own bathroom which excited me because in my last house I had to share with my sister, Isabella Jones, she legit spends hours in the bathroom and I was always late because of her. Thank god, she is away in Boston in med school, cause of which for the last few years, I was living my life.
I strongly think she was always trying to open the Chambers of Secret.
As I'm famished beyond day and night I find myself raiding the kitchen to find some leftover sandwiches. After finding my goodies, I was about to go into my room, but to my surprise, I hear a truck being pulled over.
At that time, before I could talk, my mom voices out,
"Honey, I thought that was the last truck".
My dad replies, "Yeah! It was!"
Being the nosy people, we look out from the window and see a Black range rover and two big mover trucks stopping in front of our neighbor's house.
Looks like, we aren’t the only new ones in the neighborhood.
Our facesare glued to the window; we are being the clear definition of nosy neighbors. But, can you blame us, at least twenty movers got down? “Are they going to demolish the house and build a palace or what?” My mom says jokingly as he lifts the chair near the window. My dad saw my mom picking up the chair ran to her and took the chair and brought it closer to the window. Sometimes, when I see them both, I envy their love. They were no childhood sweethearts; they both met in a parent-teacher conference, where my dad brought his nephew, my cousin, Peter. Peter is a very enthusiastic kid who was a prankster then itself. So, when my dad had to cover up i
