“That’s why you shouldn’t be falling in love.” I chuckled, watching Nessa’s reaction to my words.

She blinked at my words and I could see a hint of disappointment on her face when her smile deflated.

“What do you mean?” She gave me a flat look, dropping her cutleries on the table.

“I mean, you shouldn’t fall in love so you don’t get hurt,” I explained slowly like I was talking to a child, knowing it would agitate her. I was enjoying the show and I wanted to see if all these months we’d been messing around meant anything to her.

“Okay, that’s how it is?” She got up and without waiting for an answer from me, she stormed upstairs. Was she already in love with me? We never talked about our feelings. I didn’t know exactly how I felt. I knew I liked her but I never thought of falling in love. It wasn’t part of my plans in life.

Even though I found myself doing things I shouldn’t be doing, I still tried to ignore the fact that I liked her way more than I had ever liked
