The next morning, Claire was already prepared to attend Chand's wedding ceremony. Since they were scheduled to leave for the venue at eight, she made sure to be ready and waiting in the lobby by seven-thirty sharp.
Claire wore a sleeveless, knee-length A-line dress in red, with a round neckline that highlighted her smooth, well-maintained fair skin. She let her hair down and opted for a natural makeup look. For accessories, she wore simple diamond earrings, which added to her elegant appearance. A pair of ten-centimeter red stilettos was ready to complete her look.
Meanwhile, Bella was wearing a mocha-colored dress that reached just below her knees. Her hair was also let down, but she added a cute clip to the right side of her head. Dangling silver earrings complemented her bold makeup look. To add height, Bella had beige wedges with a twelve-centimeter heel. Claire whistled when she saw her.
"Ready to find a handsome guy?" Bella teased when Claire complimented her look.
"You might as well pin a nametag that says 'single' on your chest so everyone knows you're looking for a boyfriend," Claire joked, laughing. She grabbed her black clutch that had been sitting on the table. Bella took one last look at herself before finally following Claire.
"How many handsome men do you think will be there?" Bella asked as they stepped out of the room.
"You'll see," Claire answered briefly.
A few people had already gathered in the parking lot. They whistled as Claire and Bella made their appearance, showing off their rare glammed-up looks.
"If I had known you two were this stunning when dressed up, I'd have asked you out long ago," Thomas, one of their colleagues from the same division, called out.
Bella quickly dropped her elegant demeanor and playfully smacked Thomas with her dark brown clutch. The group was used to their banter, so no one would step in to break things up even if they started pulling each other's hair.
A short while later, Shelly arrived, wearing an outfit that matched her daughter's. Claire's niece and her entourage followed closely behind.
"Aunty!" Abigail called out, waving her hand.
Claire observed her niece, who, somehow, had ended up wearing a matching outfit with Flavia, her "twin" cousin despite not being related by blood. Behind Abigail and Flavia were their striking older cousins: none other than Antony, Altezza, and Gian.
Antony and Altezza looked more casual compared to the formal suits they typically wore to the office. Though Claire had never seen Gian's work attire, he still managed to look just as impressive as his older cousins.
Antony sported a dark gray blazer over a white V-neck shirt, while Altezza wore a black suit with a white shirt underneath, casually skipping the tie. As for Gian, the youngest of the three, he opted for a denim shirt paired with a cream-colored outer jacket, looking no less dashing than his older cousins.
The presence of the three cousins alone was enough to attract attention. In fact, it could be said that the groom himself was overshadowed by the trio.
"Are you sure he's a widower with a teenage daughter?" Bella tapped Claire's arm repeatedly with excitement as she stared at Antony, much to Claire's annoyance.
"Your eyes still work, don't they? Look at his daughter—she's right there," Claire pointed at Flavia, who was standing not far from them.
By now, all of Claire's division had arrived, and the groom and his family were getting ready to enter the flower-adorned car. Claire and Bella had already positioned themselves, ready to hop into their own vehicle. Just as they were about to get in, Abigail's shout grabbed Claire's attention once more.
"Can we ride with you?" the teenager pleaded, her eyes wide with hope. Claire squinted in frustration, but seeing both Abigail and Flavia's pitiful expressions, she merely nodded, gesturing for them to get in.
The distance between the inn and the wedding venue was less than five minutes. The groom's car pulled up in front of the building, while the other vehicles were directed by the coordinator to the parking area below.
Once they parked, Claire and her group made their way back up to the entrance. The bride's family was already there, welcoming the groom and his entourage, all dressed in matching soft pink gowns.
The wedding ceremony began, and as always, Claire was mesmerized by the proceedings. She loved watching each step of the event. After the vows were exchanged and the formalities completed, the couple was officially pronounced husband and wife. The room erupted into cheers as everyone celebrated the newlyweds.
While the bride and groom were busy with their photo session, the guests were invited to enjoy the food until it was their turn to be called for pictures with the couple. Bella and Claire were at the snack stand when a group of men approached them. It was clear they weren't part of the Coskun company group.
One of the men, wearing a black shirt, greeted them warmly. "Are you friends of the groom?" he asked. Bella and Claire nodded in unison.
"I'm Rendy, the bride's cousin," he introduced himself, extending a hand.
Bella shook his hand with a sweet smile. Rendy, Chand's cousin-in-law, was exactly Bella's type—handsome, tall, with a friendly smile and warm eyes.
"Bella. This is my friend Claire," Bella said, introducing her. As Claire was about to extend her hand for a handshake, a loud, all-too-familiar voice interrupted.
"Mama!" The cry made Claire roll her eyes. Abigail quickly walked over, glancing suspiciously at the three men in front of Claire one by one. "Where have you been? Papa and I have been looking for you," she whined in her characteristic playful tone.
Bella's eyes widened, as did the three men standing before them, clearly taken aback. Claire, on the other hand, could only sigh in resignation, fully aware of the dramatic scene Abigail was creating.
"Ma-Mama?" Rendy stuttered, glancing between Claire and Abigail. The striking resemblance between them only reinforced Abigail's claim that they were mother and daughter.
"Yes, she's my mom. What's the problem? Do we not look alike?" Abigail asked with a sarcastic expression. "Just because my mom is beautiful and youthful doesn't mean she's single. She's thirty-five," Abigail continued, staring daggers at Rendy.
Rendy continued to look between Abigail and Claire, clearly flustered. Bella could only manage a nervous smile, trying to nudge Abigail to stop talking as she noticed Claire's growing irritation. However, Abigail ignored Bella's warning and pressed on. "If you're planning to find a partner, just get to know Aunty Bella. She's still single. Plus, she's a really nice person, and just look at her—she's so beautiful!" Abigail was promoting Bella, causing her to smile awkwardly.
Claire took a deep breath, slowly exhaling to calm her rising annoyance. Her greatest desire at that moment was to strangle Abigail. How could her cousin embarrass her like that by calling her "Mama" and mentioning her age? Was she really that old?
Frustrated with her niece's antics, Claire decided to distance herself from both Abigail and Bella. She knew they would follow her, but she didn't care. Once outside the building, Claire suddenly turned around, causing Abigail, who wasn't ready for the abrupt movement, to bump into her.
"Aunty, watch where you're stepping," Abigail grumbled while rubbing her nose, but Claire ignored her niece's protest and shot her an angry glare.
"What was that act in there all about?" Claire asked, irritated. Instead of feeling guilty, Abigail just grinned mischievously.
"There's no ulterior motive. I was just helping you avoid him. Don't you usually dislike being introduced like that?" Abigail replied innocently.
"But did it have to be in that way? Calling me your mother and saying I'm thirty-five? Do I really look that old?" Claire was genuinely upset now, while Bella was trying hard to suppress her laughter.
Abigail lowered her head, sensing that Claire was in a no-nonsense mood.
"I'm sorry," Abigail murmured, genuinely feeling guilty.
"I'm going back to the hotel, and you," she pointed at Abigail, "are not following me. You came to this city with Flavia, so you'll return to Kansas with her." Claire then exited the building and walked toward the parking lot, with Bella trailing behind, struggling a bit in her dress and wedges.
Once inside the car, Bella kicked off her wedges and rubbed her ankles. "Do you really have to be that mad at Abigail? She looked like she was about to cry," she chided gently.
Claire pulled the car out of the parking space and headed back toward the inn. "She crossed the line, and I don't like her behavior. There's a limit to joking around," Claire replied coldly.
"Why? What's making you emotional? Is it because you didn't get to meet that guy earlier?" Bella tried to joke, which made Claire glare at her. "Okay, I'm sorry. Honestly, I'm just surprised to see you so upset since last night."
"I'm just annoyed, period. So there's no need for a lot of questions," Claire snapped, parking the car in the inn's parking area. Without waiting for Bella, she quickly walked to her room. Their room rental was still valid for a few more hours, so Claire planned to spend the rest of that time sleeping.
Meanwhile, in the building, Flavia was rubbing Abigail's back as she cried nonstop since Claire left.
"Aunty... She's mad... at me... Hiks..." Abigail sobbed between her hiccups.
"This is your fault for not listening to me. I told you not to mess around, but you wouldn't listen," Flavia reminded her.
Since getting out of the car, Flavia and Abigail had kept a close watch on Claire. To be honest, Flavia felt uneasy about any other man approaching Claire due to her stunning beauty. She was worried that her father's chances of getting close to Claire would vanish, causing Claire to hate him even more. When Abigail shared her plan to drive away the men trying to approach Claire, Flavia had already tried to stop her and warn her because she heard what her uncle said last night, but Abigail didn't pay any attention.
"Then do you want my aunt to be taken by another man?" Abigail asked, her voice shaky. Flavia grimaced and shook her head.
"Look, you don't want that, while I'm just trying to help you reach your dream," Abigail sniffled. "No matter what it takes, I need to make Aunty C forgive me."
"But how are you going to do that?" Flavia was confused. The two girls fell silent.
Claire chose to swim to relieve her frustration. If it weren't for Abigail, her mood wouldn't be this bad. She swam two laps before stopping at one side of the pool, leaning her back against the edge and tilting her head back to soak in the sunlight, even though she knew it wasn't good for her skin."Still angry?" A voice startled Claire, making her open her eyes. She found herself staring into brown eyes that were gazing down at her, clearly wet as well. It was obvious the man had just finished swimming too. Claire chose to ignore his presence and closed her eyes again. The water rippling nearby indicated that he had also entered the pool."I'm here on their behalf to apologize," Antony continued when Claire didn't respond."Apologize for what?" she asked sarcastically, not even bothering to open her eyes."For everything," he replied flatly. "I thought you were mad because of Abigail and Flavia."Claire opened her eyes in surprise to find Antony standing so close to her."I won't de
Bella glanced at her watch before stealing another look at Claire. It wasn't time for them to check out of the hotel yet, but her friend was hastily packing her belongings after finishing her shower. Claire's sulky expression prompted Bella to refrain from asking too many questions, opting instead to follow her lead. She didn't want to be left alone in a city she didn't know.Claire was truly leaving; she didn't even say goodbye or check on her niece. Bella merely trailed behind her, afraid to inquire further for fear of inciting her friend's anger. The sun was beginning to set when Claire pulled over at a rest area. A few couples were capturing moments nearby, and Bella wondered if Claire had stopped for the same reason as the young lovers taking pictures. But Bella was mistaken. Claire didn't stop for a photo op; she needed a moment to rest. They sat down at one of the stalls and ordered food. Claire appeared to be in a slightly better mood, which finally encouraged Bella to ask her
"From what I know, he always asks someone else to represent him. If it's not Sir Altezza and Duncan, it's usually the PR team that steps in. Am I wrong?" Claire shook her head in response to Bella's rhetorical question. What Bella said was indeed true. Very true."What's suspicious is why he has to bring your niece along. At first, Abigail could serve as a bridge to connect him with his daughter, but does she have to be there all the time? The answer is no. Abigail doesn't need to be around if it's just about getting Antony and Flavia closer. But she must be there to connect you with Antony. Am I wrong?"Claire shook her head again. Bella didn't know that Antony had been trying to get close to her by leveraging Flavia's name. If she knew, Antony would score even lower in her eyes, and for some reason, Claire didn't want that to happen."But again, I think the reason for Antony's presence isn't the real issue that's bothering you. I know you like him, so don't deny it." Bella raised he
Claire arrived home at ten o'clock in the evening after dropping Bella off at her apartment. At first, Claire had asked Bella to stay over, but after thinking about it for a long time, Bella eventually declined because she didn't want to deal with the hassle of going back and forth to her apartment the next morning before heading to the office. Now, Claire felt grateful that her friend hadn't stayed over, as when she opened the gate, Gladwin's car was already there. Her twin brother had a spare key to Claire's house, so she wasn't surprised to see him there. Claire opened the front door after locking the gate behind her. Her twin was watching television with a bowl of instant noodles in hand."Where have you been?" he asked without bothering to look away from the screen."I attended a coworker's wedding in the next town," she replied.Claire chose to sit next to her brother and asked for some of the noodles in his bowl. Gladwin didn't refuse and handed her the bowl without hesitation.
In the morning, Claire went to the office as usual. She decided to follow Gladwin's advice and not think about anything regarding Antony. After all, she didn't feel anything for the guy.Claire did like Flavia. What she felt for that girl was almost the same as what she felt for Abigail. But that was as far as it went; nothing more. Even the frustration she felt towards Antony, she considered to be a normal annoyance. After all, if the same situation happened to someone else, they would feel the same frustration she felt.Claire sat at her desk. Bella was already there, although not fully ready for work."Morning," her friend greeted her."Morning," Claire replied casually.Claire began her routine as usual, turning on her computer screen and then brewing her coffee. After that, she tackled all the reports that had piled up, as was typical for Mondays. By lunchtime, she finally looked up and was ready to go out with Bella."Are you not driving?" Bella asked as they descended to the lo
Lunchtime arrived. Bella nudged Claire's arm with her elbow and nodded toward the door, where Harry was standing and smiling at her. "Come on, introduce us," Bella whispered very softly. Claire glanced at her and shot her a glare."Lunch together?" Harry asked, standing next to Claire's desk. Claire smiled and nodded. She grabbed her wallet and stood up, inviting Bella to join them."This is my friend, Bella. You've met earlier, right?" Claire said aloud. Harry nodded while Bella waved her hand and flashed a sweet smile at the man in front of her. Harry responded with a charming dimpled smile. The three of them walked toward the elevator, passing by the other teams' workspaces, which were already starting to empty out. Just as they were about to enter the elevator, they saw Antony walking alongside the head of the audit team. Seeing Antony reminded Claire of Gladwin's advice from last night: not to think about anything concerning Antony.Harry held the door open for their two superior
The three of them walked toward an empty table led by Claire, and once again Bella asked, "Why did you reject him? Was he really that ugly back then?" She inquired, showing no concern for Claire's feelings.Harry smiled, glancing at Claire sitting beside him, then shook his head. "She's beautiful. She's always been beautiful," he said sincerely. "I rejected her because I was embarrassed," he added, his face turning red."Embarrassed? Were you embarrassed, or were you actually scared because she's a scary girl?" Bella asked again, ignoring the nudge from Claire under the table."Scary?" Harry asked in confusion, furrowing his brow. "What's scary about her?" he queried, baffled. "Claire is a nice person. But I think she's too smart, and that made me insecure since she and Gladwin were always the best in class," he continued."But do you actually like her?" Bella pressed, receiving a nod from Harry. "What about now? Do you still like her?" Bella asked, making Harry glance at Claire shyly
Claire was still frozen in place, staring at Antony in confusion. "Come on," he said again."No need, Sir. I'll order a ride," she declined politely. She couldn't be rude, especially since they were still on office grounds, and the security guard was watching."This is an order, Claire." It was clear Antony didn't want to be challenged. Claire glanced at the guard, who was openly watching her and Antony with a puzzled expression. Not wanting to be the center of attention any longer, Claire finally followed Antony. He opened the front passenger door for her. At first, Claire thought they would be driven by Antony's personal driver, but she was wrong, as the driver's seat was empty, even though the engine was still running.Antony walked around the front of the car and got behind the wheel. Without another word, he drove out of the gate."What do you want to eat?" he asked, his tone softer than before. Claire frowned. "I know you didn't touch the dinner that was prepared earlier," he sa
The two teenagers turned their heads simultaneously towards the aisle as they saw an ominous aura spread around them. Moreover, people were now looking in the same direction. Where the woman Flavia and Abigail had not expected to see had just appeared."Why is that woman there?" Abigail whispered to her best friend.Flavia who had been engrossed in her digital camera and taking pictures was now holding it languidly. "I don't know." She replied innocently. She looked back at the photo produced by her hand, choosing to ignore Abigail and her suspicions."Shall we go closer to them?" Abigail asked in a challenged tone.Flavia raised her head again and looked at her best friend with a furrowed brow. As Abigail started to take a step, Flavia held her back by holding Abigail's arm tightly and shaking her head."No, Abby." She said.Instead, she pulled her best friend's hand to walk away from the reception room and left the hall by walking in the hotel's garden area to take some photos as a
"Full?" asked Claire with a furrowed brow.Antony deliberately re-emphasized his lower body so that Claire was wide-eyed. "You know what I mean, right?" Antony whispered in the girl's ear that inevitably made Claire shudder in horror. The man's lips teased her, starting to caress the side of her face so that she unconsciously looked up and gave him the opportunity to explore the slender recesses of her neck."Can I ask for my rights now?" he asked in a pleading tone.Claire shook her head."Why again now?" Antony asked in a whining tone."Your body stinks," Claire said as she wrinkled her nose. "Go take a shower." She ordered as she turned Antony around and pushed him into her room until he reached her bathroom.Antony wanted to resist, but seeing his wife's glare, he finally went in.What's wrong with his wife. Why is it so hard to conquer her? Instead of spending time kissing hot and wet, Claire pushed him into the shower. Antony had hoped they would move on to the next stage that h
"Those two women were the answer to my mother's prayers," she said, anger flaring in her voice.Antony was taken aback. "No, darling. Your mother's prayers will never be answered like that.""Alright, they did come with certain intentions. But can't you see me? To me, they are nobody. In my eyes, in my heart, in my mind, there is only Claire, Claire, and Claire. There's no other woman." Antony coaxed her in a soothing tone.Claire couldn't help but chuckle at that. "Don't sweet-talk me," she replied with a hint of amusement.Antony shook his head. He stepped closer to his wife. Claire still had her arms crossed over her chest, and to maintain some distance from him, she leaned her body back."I'm not sweet-talking you, darling. I'm speaking the truth. If only there were experts who could read my mind and heart, you could ask them. I'm sure they would tell you the truth. And if they lied, I would bribe them to say what I want them to say," Antony said again.Claire rolled her eyes. Ant

Antony stopped his car outside Claire's house and unlocked the gate with the spare key he had kept for a long time.Claire's car hadn't moved from its spot. It was still there since the last time Antony visited his fiancée's home, before Claire's family took her back.Who knows? Maybe Claire could hear the gate opening or maybe not. But one thing was clear: his wife did not welcome him at all because Claire's house felt eerily silent. Was Gladwin playing a trick on him? Who knows if Claire was really back at her house. He opened the front door and stepped inside, greeting her. Once again, there was no response. When Antony noticed Claire's bedroom door slightly ajar, he walked in.Claire wasn't there. All that was left was the small suitcase she had brought from the hotel room."Claire, sweetheart," Antony called out again, but still, there was no answer.Could it be that Claire left again after dropping off her suitcase and saw Gladwin leave? he wondered to himself.Antony continued
Quickly, Anastasia ran after Antony. She called his name repeatedly, but Antony chose to ignore her until her stiletto heels finally brought her close to him. She immediately reached out and grabbed Antony's arm, but he harshly brushed her off."Antony, listen to me. Please. I'm really sorry. I apologize," she said in a whiny tone. The woman tried to grab Antony's hand again, but he pushed her away once more, causing her to fall and kneel on the cold marble floor. Not wanting to give up, Anastasia wrapped her arms around Antony's legs, forcing him to stop."I'm truly sorry," she pleaded again, her voice desperate. She begged for the man's compassion, finally realizing that everything Antony had said in the room earlier was no joke. "I... I..." She couldn't find the words. "I'm sorry, please forgive me," she begged, tears starting to wet her face.Antony looked down at her with a sharp gaze. "Do you realize that what you're doing has crossed the line?" he asked in his cold tone.Anasta
Antony arrived at a luxurious five-star hotel located not too far from his family's hotel. As soon as he parked his car, he headed straight to the room Letizia had mentioned when he contacted his cousin earlier.Inside the lavish room rented by his ex-wife sat Antony's mother, Brianna Quirino, alongside her husband, Mr. Arthur. Meanwhile, Letizia stood with her hip leaning against the bar chair, her arms crossed over her chest.Don't ask where her children and husband were. Antony guessed that his sister-in-law was waiting for them somewhere. The three family members displayed different expressions, surely with different thoughts filled with questions that might mirror what was in Antony's own mind.On the other side of the room, right above the sofa facing away from the window, two women sat side by side. One was Anastasia, a woman he had pretended to date for work purposes. The other was his ex-wife, the woman he once loved deeply, who had given him a beautiful and devoted daughter.
But then Claire tried to clear her mind. She refused to believe that her mother could be so cruel to her; if that were the case, Claire might end up resenting her mother for the rest of her life.Disloyal? She didn't care about that word. Her face was already free of makeup, and her hair had been released from the beautiful tiara she had worn earlier. Now, the makeup artists helped Claire start to unbutton the lovely gown she had worn, which had so many buttons down the back.Once everything was removed, Claire opened her suitcase, searching for clothes. She decided to clean herself up in the bathroom that was in the dressing room.Feeling refreshed after showering and washing her hair, Claire put on the clothes she had chosen: a pair of jeans and a loose shirt instead of the dress Antony had picked out for her to wear on their honeymoon, which they were supposed to take right after the reception she was now reluctant to attend. No, she wouldn't just surrender herself to her husband a
The events proceeded according to the instructions from the host.Happy? Of course, Claire was happy. Especially seeing Bella's silly antics, who didn't hesitate to liven up the event alongside Gladwin and some of his office friends invited to the wedding, which surprised them as well. After all, Claire's absence from the office had already been quite shocking, and now they were suddenly presented with news of a wedding they had never seen any signs of."I had my suspicions when our big boss showed up at my wedding, and it turns out he was after the cheese in the sandwich," Chand whispered when his friend arrived with his wife. Claire could only smile in response to that accusatory remark.A snippet of the song that Adaline was singing on stage made Claire and Antony hold hands tightly, hoping that no obstacles would disturb them in the future.Guests began to dwindle. Amidst welcoming guests, they also took several photo sessions—not just with colleagues but also to capture moments w
