Selene pondered on the advice left to her by Duncan. The idea of avoiding her newly found friends caused her insides to twist and her stomach twitch.
Rejection and avoidance were no stranger to her, and she cannot put it upon herself to do the same to others. Aware of the pain and sadness it brings.
“You all right?”
Loraine’s voice sounded like a hum. But it was enough to wake her from the sudden trance, making her move her hand in a circular motion, as she had been wiping the counter before all of that happened.
“Yeah, just a bit worn out?”
She was quick to answer, seeing how the girl raised a brow, along with throwing a confused and questioning gaze, but was not enough to throw the girl off.
Instead, Loraine put both hands on her hips, now playfully grinning.
“There’s this twinkle in your eyes. Is it because of Lucas Mandel? I heard you two are in the same class. Do I smell something brewing in here?”
She nearly squeals, clapping and shaking her shoulders in a playful giggle.
“Oh no, nothing like that.”
That fully roused her wits, realizing the reason behind her co-workers’ excitement. Her mind immediately telling her to speak because of the rush of humiliation coursing through her at the idea.
Although a lot of people seem to think that, never in her wildest dreams did she consider it.
Again, that caused Loraine’s brow to rise even higher. Her lips twisting in an annoyed manner.
“That’s kind of hard to believe, seeing as he is looking your way.”
She says, signaling her eyeballs behind.
It was only then that Selene finally came to realize there were still people around them. And she did not expect the guy was there, as she remembered there weren’t any patrons a few moments ago.
“How long has he been there?”
She instinctively wave a hand at him with a warm smile, getting an immediate reply, before the guy said something to his friend and immediately standing.
“Oh, my gosh. He’s walking this way!”
Loraine nearly trip over herself when she rushes to get to the other side of the counter to stand beside her.
Selene heaved a sigh, shaking her head while holding on to her laughter upon seeing how her co-worker’s eyes grew wide, along with her smile almost reaching her ear.
She only straightens herself when the guy was right in front of them, as her companion seem to have lost balance and was tugging at her.
But before she can even ask what the problem was, Lucas’s presence alerted her, when the man’s shadow loomed over them both.
“Good evening. How can I help you?”
She immediately put on her smile.
Though acquainted, a big part at the back of her mind reminded her she was an employee at the moment and needs to address the customer properly.
That got a frown from Lucas, his lips twisting from the sudden awkwardness because of that, yet he still let out a chuckle.
That garnered another squeaked from Loraine, as she clenched tighter on Selene’s uniform. Her face turned beet red, panting as she continued to mumble stuff.
Selene’s attention became divided between the two. But ended up with Lucas, as the man made a loud cough to get her to look, while Loraine straightened immediately.
“Can I talk to you for a minute?”
Lucas’s voice was authoritative, even though he smiled.
This brought about Selene’s notice, slapping her to her senses that she was still at work and needs to act accordingly.
“Yes, of course.”
She widens her smile, placing her hands down and fixing her posture to raise her gaze to see the man eye to eye.
But Lucas remained quiet, throwing a meaningful glare at the girl, who continued clinging to Selene like a little child.
It took the dumbfounded waitress a few minutes to be aware of Lucas’s signals and movement, immediately backing off when she noticed how the man’s lips twitched.
“I think the boss is calling me.”
Loraine’s eyes stayed glued to the guy, stuttering as she backed away from the two, all the while trying to keep her smile.
Selene remained unaware of all this, cause she had to turn around to see what had happened to her co-worker, when she caught the girl’s shaky voice.
But before she can ask what’s wrong, Loraine had scampered to the kitchen, squealing as she dash out of there.
A frown appeared on her face, but immediately dismissed it, instantly putting on her sweet employee expression before facing the man.
“So, how can I help you?”
She says in her cheerful voice. All the while, keeping her composure and posture straightened.
With how she caught sites of some female patrons glaring at her with such animosity, she thought it best to act as poised and conserved as possible, recalling the warning she received.
Also, she was still on the clock, so couldn’t be all chummy with a customer.
Lucas heaved a sigh, his expression turning soft.
“You all right? I heard you had trouble with some girls at school.”
He says, lips pursing in worry.
Flashes of the incident appeared before her eyes. The murderous looks being thrown at her by several women, the message in red lipstick on her locker, and the constant accidents happening to her there sent a shrill down her spine.
“Yeah, but it’s nothing serious.”
Her smile slowly faded because of the memory. Yet, she could not bring herself to tell on them, fearing it may cause more trouble. Also, she did not want to bother the man with those things.
“You remember who they were? Their faces?”
Lucas furrowed, worry etched all over his face, noticing the sudden change in her tone.
“No, not really. I didn’t look at them. Sorry.”
Selene waves it off.
From her experience and school, she became used to such treatment, always being the new student. So she thought the attention and animosity towards her should subside in time.
Lucas heaved a deep sigh in surrender, his smile turning weak.
“Anyway, if anything happens, just tell me.”
He says, giving her a reassuring nod.
Somehow that put Selene at ease, the weight and fear in her chest disappearing, knowing that there was someone looking out for her.
“Sure thing, thanks.”
She waves her goodbye the minute the man turned to go back to his group, who were now headed for the door.
“I’ll see you on Monday then.”
Lucas hollers before rushing to chase after his friends, as they had gone ahead of him.
Selene had to hold on to her giggles, clenching her teeth because she still senses those murderous gazes from several young women who continued to watch her.
She nearly flinch when she felt a hand on her shoulder, sighing in relief upon turning around to see who it was.
“Yes, boss.”
She blurted out of instinct.
Thankfully, the old man seemed preoccupied with checking the cashier.
“You can go now. Ben and I will handle things here.”
He says, waving at the clock.
Selene looked at the thing. She still had five minutes before the end of her shift, but hearing that got her to move, remembering her aunt wasn’t feeling well that day.
“Thank you, boss. By the way, did you see Loraine?”
She asked, recalling her co-worker’s reaction a while ago.
Her subconscious told her she had to talk to the girl, when memories of the mix of terror and awe in her flash in her mind. Also, it was only then she realize her mistake of not introducing her properly to the fellow.
“I think she went home already.”
Bernie yawned out, still focused on finishing on his task.
Selene took that as her cue to leave, signaling her other boss before going to the changing rooms, which only got a nod from the Ben.
She heaved a sigh when Loraine wasn’t there. She somehow felt bad not being able to talk to her, but put that aside for now, since she had more important things to do.
After changing, she quickly rush to the kitchen to say her farewells to the two men. Only getting a wave from them, as they were busy thanking the leaving customers.
Selene got a chill run down her spine, glimpsing that some of them were the girls who were glaring at her a while ago.
Because of that, she ended up taking the back door to avoid them, moving through the row of houses that provided cover, heading for the road.
She was keen to notice the silence of the place, taken by surprise because there were usually people walking by during that time.
Only when she heard a loud howl from nearby that she returned to her senses.
A gust of wind sent an odd chill through her, causing her to scamper. She hastened her steps, having that creeping terror clawing at her.
Thankfully, the moon was full that night, illuminating her path, making it much easier for her to move and lessening the ominous vibe of the place.
When she reaches the long road in the middle of the woods, she cheerfully hummed to keep her nerves, increasing the speed of her jog to get to the other side.
It was only when she caught the crackling upfront that she had to stop, frowning upon seeing a large shadow waiting in the bushes.
She squinted, trying to make out what it was, as she was certain it was not there before. Only when she saw its red glowing eyes did her fear return, the prickling coldness rushing through her in an instant.
Heart racing from the fright, she slowly backed away, praying it hadn’t noticed her. She swallowed hard to steel herself when it move.
The thing was big, walking on all fours, its growl reverberating from where she was. Only when it charge that Selene pivoted in panic, running back to the safety of the houses.
“Someone help!”
She screamed in sheer terror when she felt the weight of its legs on her, causing her to fall to the ground. Her throat drying up from the itch and sting of her own voice scratching it.
Her shrieks only grew stronger when her skin touch the dirt and grass scraping. The adrenaline pumping made her numb to the bruises and scratches, as all she could do was raise her arms to cover her face and chest.
Selene’s pleas and cries drowned by the darkness, as she continued getting pulled into the depths of the forest, deeper until her shouts and wails got snuffed out by howl and sounds of trees rustling.
Lungs tightening with each breath, skin stinging from every corner, and joints throbbing even while she remained steady, laid down, facing the sky. A whimper escaped Selene because of the mixture of cold numbness and stabbing pain within her body.It was the sounds of murmurs from afar that woke her up. As her instincts were pushing her to move or cry out once more. She opened her mouth, but her throat burned from the inside when she tried to make a sound, causing her to cough, making her insides twist and prickle. She let out a gurgling noise when liquid started coming out of her.Another croak came when she tasted the iron, dirt, and tanginess in her tongue. It left her with no choice but to stop, needing to chase after her breath.“The trail leads here!”A familiar voice echoed through the forest. But the depth of darkness was too thick that everything remained pitch black. Not wanting to give up, Selene gathered every remaining ounce of strength she had, pushing as much air throug
For the first time in years, the small council of Silent Ridge peak has once again has come together, as the recent incident has incited another grave concern for everyone living there. All of them gathered a few meters from where the supposed victim was resting, wanting to see for themselves the severity of the situation they were facing.Included among the older congregation were the young Lucas and Duncan, standing as representatives of their respective packs.“It’s witchcraft. She is the same as her aunt!”A mustached elder hissed, eyes widening after having seen the female’s state. When they arrive there, they expected to see a bloodies corpse, based on the reports given by their scouts. But to their surprise, they face a perfectly healthy and resting girl, half naked because of her torn clothes.“None of you can prove that.”Lucas was keen to dismiss the idea, sending a mocking gaze at the people there. That receive glares from everybody who was present, even the doctors and nur
Even with the stinging scent of ammonia, alcohol, and iron attacking her senses, Selene continued pretending to be asleep. She’d been awake for half an hour, but could not bring it upon herself to open her eyes in fear, hearing the number of individuals around her, along with being naked. From what she caught during the entire conversation, they were fighting over her about something, though she didn’t catch the gist of it all.One thing is for sure, in her mind, there were people who didn’t want her there. She could not understand what she’d done wrong this time, since she had been keeping to herself. The thought of that cause a surge of terror and panic in her. Each breath she took became heavier, faster, and stingy with each inhale. Her eyes, even though remaining closed, heated when tears formed and wish to escape. It was at this moment the calming voice echoed through her thoughts again.‘Be strong, little one.’These words hummed inside her head, like a soothing music which put
Tired and weakened, Selene hardly notice she’d lost consciousness again. The pull of sleep was too much for her to bear, only waking when she noticed the itch in her throat.Somehow recovered, she now had the strength to open her eyes. A frown immediately appeared on her face upon gazing at where she was in.Dust floating everywhere, sticking to the walls, floors, and ceiling. A single small window gave the room light, making the entire place dim.She hugged herself when the coldness prickled her skin, steam coming out of her with each breath. Her hands instinctively brushed the side of her bed, searching for a blanket or something to cover herself, realizing her nakedness.Unable to find anything, she sat up to get a better look around, groaning from the jolt of pain piercing through her joints.“Hello? Is anybody there?”Her voice echoed through the empty room, yet it did not seem to leave the place she was in.She frowned at the wooden door at the far end of it, having a small slid
Duncan Vondeer’s face wrinkled from the deepness of his frown. His eyes, half open, not wanting to fully see the person walking around in front of him.He and a few others gathered in the study, discussing the reason for his current decision. He wasn’t supposed to be there, if it not for George, his father’s beta and second in command forcing him.It left him with no choice but to groan and grumble at his dissatisfaction and annoyance. His ears were ringing from the squeaky high-pitched voice, bantering nonstop for half an hour already.“A debt? That’s the best you can come up with?”Valentine Sage’s face looked like it was about to explode. Its color had turned beet red from all the huffing and puffing she’d been doing.Unable to endure the continues nagging. Duncan finally let out a growl, hand wiping his face to keep what little patience he had.“Can we not talk about this?”His voice was firm, gritting his teeth after slamming his fist on the chair’s arm, almost breaking the thin
After years of being passed around, disregarded, and shunned. For the first time, Selene could genuinely smile with glee. The sensation of being needed and relied upon brought about an insurmountable energy and reason for her. Especially since it was her aunt Penelope who was in need. It was now her chance to return the favor for the new life she had given her.She does a quick turn in front of the mirror, making sure she’d properly put on the uniform provided to her by an attendant there. It was a black and white maid outfit, complete with an apron and the headdress.Though shorter than the supposed design, since she’s certain it should reach up to his ankle, not her knee. Even if it wasn’t the style, she thought, she remained giddy, wearing such frilly kind of clothing. The way it flaps in the air when she moves and its softness on her skin was something she’d never experienced before.Footsteps coming from the stairs caused her to straighten, immediately turning to face the entrywa
Duncan couldn’t remove the grin on his face, having achieved something none had ever tried before. It was a long shot, but somehow, the discovery elated him.He looks out the window from his father’s study, closely watching Selene watering the flowers on the other side of the maze garden. The girl was alone, yet she had this smile on, all the while vigilantly doing her task of tending the plants there.“You actually did it!”It was Ben, his beta, jumping in cheer after hearing what he had done.He gathered his two most trusted aid to tell them about the situation, since they remained wary of their ward. The woman wasn’t just another hapless victim; she was the niece of Penelope Hallow. The so-called moonlight wench. Also, her sudden recovery after getting attack puzzled many of them. As he too was certain she had died when they brought her to the infirmary.“Was that necessary, young alpha?”Julieta bit her lip, hands clasp together in worry. She was aware they were dealing with someo
The confused, brooding, and gentle gaze hidden beneath a hardened exterior of Duncan continued to plague Selene’s mind. This was the image that got stuck in her. After having seen the man’s eyes in such clarity, she could discern the shadows cast upon by his broody composure. At first she thought it was just him being young, but the moment their gaze met, everything became clear to her.Sadness, pain, and longing. All of those things were familiar to her. So it was easy to spot the same in the guy’s eyes. She can’t help but be empathetic towards the guy. Though the fact remains he is better off than her, she now had this sense of connection with him. Also, there’s the part she cannot remove the man from her head, his face popping up in her mind once in a while, along with the distraught and giddiness in her insides. It’s been days since that incident, and yet the memory of it continued to linger like it was yesterday. She tussled and turn on her bed, frantic with those unknown emotion
Duncan sat on the bed with a wrinkled face, groaning in annoyance because of the sunlight coming from the gap between the curtains that woke him up.He’d lost track of time, being so drowned in that carnality that he shared with Selene, he didn’t think he could experience such satisfaction in his life. Even his first could not compare to what he had.The memory of last night brought a grin to his face, recollecting the number of times he ravage her. Just thinking about it made him hard again, but then he remembered how many times Selene fainted during the entire course of their intimacy. It seems the woman still couldn’t handle him, since she was only a changeling. But then, the ide
Selene was so dazed and restless, drag down into the pit of carnal cravings because of all those memories. She became drunk with passion, nerve, and need, clouding her mind with unsavory thoughts. She swallowed hard, trying to calm herself. Yet the man’s powerful scent was making it so difficult, hypnotized by that mesmerizing mix of chocolate and wood.In just seconds, she was gasping for air, feeling her throat drying from the unknown thirst brought about by the increase in her body’s temperature. Some of her senses have also become heightened. As her skin tingled from the warmth they shared, even though they were still meters apart, his heartbeat and breathing sounded like drums to her
Duncan sprawled on the ground, heaving and groaning. His enormous frame barely moving from its place, with a hand clasping to the grass to pull himself closer to the picket fence.Selene felt her blood rush out of her face, along with unease and fear. She rushed towards the guy without a second thought, hurriedly opening the gate to get to him.“Oh my gosh, what happened to you?”
Selene hadn’t the time to comprehend what was happening. All she could do was follow instructions, packing a suitcase, and taking down notes and reminders.Only when they were at the bus station, she finally found the courage to speak out what was on her mind.“Why can’t I come with you, aunt Pen?”She swallowed hard, having that tightening in her chest.Memories of similar incidents in the past flooded her thoughts, bringing about panic and fear inside of her.Penelope, being in a hurry, hardly notice the terror in Selene’s expression. She gave out a weak smile before brushing her niece’s cheek.“You’ll be safer here.”Her tone was low and gentle, almost like a lullaby.Yet this only brought forth several faint flashes in Selene, with the exact words echoing through her head. Her eyes felt hot, her breathing erratic as the surge of emotions swelled inside her from once again being left.“But why do you have to leave?”Her voice trembled, her hands turning cold, as the thought of bein
The stillness of the house and the silence that came with it only made Duncan’s mind go into a frenzy. His body aching, itching, and twitching from the turmoil within him. A part of him still resisted, thanks to the last words of his beta Ben, but this was not enough to stop the unrest inside of him.His hands, inkling to touch, his lips, craving for affection, his skin, needing warmth from another, and his manhood ached to be caressed, licked, and dipped into a female’s slippery crevice. His head was basically floating at the time. As he walked down the stairs, memories of those carnal feelings rushed through him.Duncan was panting from all the images flashing through his mind, along with echoes of familiar moans, whimpers, and screams of ecstasy. He was losing balance from the feverish heat consuming him, his vision blurred, and his face covered with streams of sweat. And all of this w
Though they were already at the mansion, Duncan’s rage would not subside. The itching of his teeth and claw remained, needing to dig into flesh, particularly Lucas’.If it wasn’t for Ben, he would have gone full on feral on the other alpha, having that raging need to kill. It was only when his beta intervened and received the brunt of his anger did he finally returned to his senses.“Sorry about that, Ben.”He murmured, his eyes traversing the large gash stemming from his beta’s right shoulder, going all the way down to his left hip. The slash was deep, fresh, and bleeding, unable to heal because he was the one who made it. Even underneath the bandage covering it, the trail and size of the wound were visible.“It’s alright alpha. The doctor said I should be okay in a week or so.”Ben wince with each word, yet he still forced a smile.“I don’t know what came over me. I… I just lost control.”Duncan palmed his face, wiping the sweat that covered it. He couldn’t understand why he went all
Weeks have passed since the incident, yet the memory of the clash between Duncan and Lucas’ group. The sight of blood, gash, and claws swiping sent chills up Selene’s spine. It reminded her of a premonition she had long ago.“You still shaken up after what happened?”Lucas gave her a gentle nudge, noticing how she was spacing out while trembling in that warm breeze. They were currently walking through the woods, with Lucas and Selene being in front, while the others stayed a few feet away from them.Selene forced a smile, trying to hide her concern.“I didn’t think Duncan would do that.”She swallowed hard, remembering the blood thirst in the young man’s eyes. Throughout her stay with them, she’d seen him angry, but never like that, which made her wonder what could have been the cause of it.Though there was certainly fear in her, it kept getting overpowered by a lingering sense of worry and longing. She couldn’t understand why’d she feel that way, especially since she knew they didn’
“Alpha, can we take a rest? We’ve been running around the entire town for days now.”Ben grumbled. His phasing slowed, no longer having the energy or strength to keep up with Duncan. The young beta was a few meters behind, but didn’t bother to speed up, as he was losing air, nearly reaching his limit.“Don’t ask, just keep going.”Dunca says, increasing his strides as they continued on. He was scared he’d get consumed by the turmoil inside of him the moment he stops.“I don’t understand how we’re going to find the culprit by doing this?”Ben, no longer wanting to continue, was now thinking of ways to escape.“Just stop whining and keep up.”Duncan grumbled. It’s true they weren’t going to catch anyone with what they were doing, but he didn’t care. Because his real reason for aimlessly moving is because he wanted to remove the heat, adrenaline, and tension he had inside. He thought he’d be okay if he tire himself out, as he had done it before, but this was not the case now, as each tim
There was this odd sense in Selene’s chest all throughout the day, making her nervous. Though she couldn’t grasp what it was exactly that was causing it.Deep in thought, while walking through their school’s corridor, she hardly took notice of the shouts behind her, until she felt a strong arm holding on to her shoulders. That brought her back to her senses, immediately making her eyes widened from the unsuspecting touch.“Lucas.”She blurted out, surprised to see the fellow with his group following close.“Hey, Selene, is everything okay with you?”Lucas’s brows furrowed, though he had a smile on his face. Worry can be seen etched all over it.Selene avoided his gaze, tucking a piece of hair to her ear while she bit her lip from embarrassment. It’s been so long since the last time she’d space out, she found it awkward.“Yes, I just feel weird somehow.”She swallowed hard, still having that odd dread crawling into her. This made Luca’s expression straighten, as he grabbed hold of Sele
