Shantala froze in place upon hearing that nickname right from the mouth of the person she wished so hard to keep it from. She set aside the food she was about to eat before looking Hyperion straight in the eyes.
"I am not Luna," she said, "but I can be the one to bring that ransom."Hyperion simply chuckled. Just as he expected, she denied that she was Luna. Though, he was not really mad about her keeping that secret because as far as he knew, the well-known Luna had long been gone as an assassin eight years ago. And since he also knew of her past with Klauss, he thought that maybe the reason why she quit that job was that she had broken up with the doctor."There is no need to hide it, Shantala. Besides, you actually never caused me any damage when you were working as an assassin so I hold no grudge towards you. But my question is, are you capable enough to handle the situation? If you commit one mistake, then, it will all be over and once that happens, IThe next day, Shantala woke up and saw that it was already 11 in the morning. With Stacey immediately crossing her mind, she sat up only to feel the cold breeze coming from the opened window, embracing her naked upper half. Wrapping the blanket around her, she saw Hyperion sitting behind his desk and facing his laptop. "You're finally awake," he commented without looking at her. "I hope you recover your strength for your mission tonight." Recalling what happened the other night, she looked away from him with her cheeks starting to feel hot. She also could not believe she spent her time last night doing that with that man when she could have gone to the island and saved Stacey. And since it was all too late to do her plan, she had no choice but to resort to the plan of Hyperion. "Hey," she called out for his attention but all she got was a low 'hmm' from him. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?"
"He was not my master," she replied with a low voice, hinting that she did not really like talking about that matter. "He was supposed to be my partner." "So you really did quit because your engagement with him ended." "If you already know what happened, then don't bother asking." After that conversation, Shantala avoided Hyperion all throughout the day and was only able to face him again when it was time to depart. Just like what Mr. Fuego demanded, Hyperion was to stay in his resort and let Luna be the only one to bring the ransom to the negotiation place. Inside their room, the mafia boss continued to remind Shantala of the things she had to keep in mind to make sure that their one-time chance of saving Gina would succeed. "If you need help from my men, simply press this one. It will alarm them and they'll come to back you up," Hyperion said as he showed her the secret button on her clothes located near th
Shantala slowly regained her consciousness and as she moved, she felt her body still in a numb state. Opening her eyes, she found herself in an unfamiliar place with everything almost of the same shade of light gray to white. With the window just across from her, she could tell that she was most likely at a hotel since she seemed to be up in the air and could see tons of buildings around. Her attention was, then, shifted to the door when it slowly creaked open."Madam, you are finally awake," a middle-aged woman greeted with a smile, the crease on her forehead becoming even more prominent. "I shall prepare some food for you. Kindly wait."She tried to get up but it took her quite a lot of strength to even get herself lean on the headboard. The room she was in was rather large but it was almost empty with only several types of furniture occupying it. Shutting her eyes, flashes of memories came rushing back to her at a fast speed that it still took her a few minutes
He motioned Guillard to come in and take care of her. Afraid that Shantala would resort to jumping out of the window, he planned to relocate her somewhere isolated and somewhere she was unfamiliar with."Stay away from me!" she yelled as she threatened Guillard with the sharp piece of glass. "If you come any closer, I will kill you."But Guillard still walked in her direction and yanked her hand upward even though a scream penetrated his ears. Just like the first time he did, he did not hesitate to inject some tranquillizer into her. To let the drug work, he put her down on the bed first until she was once again unable to fight.Klauss stepped in and took the glass away Shantala was clutching in her hand. The middle-aged woman, then, came with a first aid kit and let Klauss be the one to bandage the cut on her hand."I told you to behave. If you do, there would be no problem," he said as he wiped off the blood from her palm. He glanced at her and
Guillard entered the room and brought in a bowl of cereal and a cup of water. Putting it on the side table, he glanced at Shantala who seemed to have regained her original state of mind since she was glaring at him."This time, do not throw your food away because if you did, you won't be getting any after," he told her before turning his back. She glanced in his direction and saw some keys clanging behind his pants and she was quite convinced that one of those keys would be the one to unlock the chains around her wrists. When she was all alone, she got up and sat behind the table. She did not really eat that much back in the hotel because of the disgusting presence of Klauss. But now, she had to fill her stomach so she could have as much strength as she could muster for her escape. After finishing her food, she went to the window and looked below. Several armed guards were standing by the entrance and another pair was just below the master's bedroom. It wa
Shantala gritted her teeth at the way the question was thrown at her in an insulting way. It simply hurt her pride even though she had already accepted the fact that she was not academically intelligent. It was even entirely her fault to quit school just to work at an early age. And since she was all ticked off, she chose not to say anything and simply lay on her bed.Underneath the blanket, she gripped the syringe so tight out of anger, and since this was all because of Guillard, she badly wanted to inject him.Guillard let out a sigh before standing from his seat. Since it was already nighttime, he had to cook something for their prisoner. This was one of the tasks he did not like that Klauss had assigned to him. But he was given no choice but to do it, thus, he left her alone. He actually wanted to free her but then again, Klauss would surely target his family and that was something he did not want to happen.Shantala, on the other hand, made up her min
"Her body is still recovering from the effect of the tranquilizer as well as the fatigue she had undergone so she will probably wake up sooner or later. Her wounds are not that deep except the one on her head. From the scans we conducted, there is no serious damage in her head but we still have to wait for her to wake up so we can run further tests and make sure she is fine."After receiving the diagnosis, Helios dismissed the doctor he hired to come and check on Shantala. Looking at her bad state, he did not expect that she would still be able to find her way out of Mr. Fuego's grasp. Or she simply outwitted him since that man's brain was just full of stupidity. But most importantly, Shantala was still lucky that he was the owner of the car she came upon before losing consciousness. If not, she would still be suffering or worse, dead by now. With the back of his hand, he put it on her forehead to check if she was still burning hot just like the first time he
Putting on the hood, she left the hotel which was, thankfully, just near the dormitory where Lance was staying. After a few minutes of walking, she reached the gates of the campus before calling her brother. On the third ring, Lance answered."I still have some money so I don't want to receive another buck from you." That was his first response even though she did not introduce who she was yet since she just changed into a new phone."Shut it and just meet me here at your campus' main gate. Quick," she responded before ending the call without listening to what he had to say.She just knew that Lance would just complain or even make up some stories just so he could not meet her. Well, that technique won't work on her anymore. Plus, this matter was urgent so she really needed to speak with him. A few minutes later, Lance came to see her wearing a scowl and in no less than a minute, he received a whack from his sister."Did Klauss ever call you these
Seeing the date when he died, he clenched his fist upon realizing that it was the same day that he got into an accident. It was already unimaginable for him what Shantala had gone through at those moments that he could not comfort her. He, then, reached out for her hand and squeezed it tight. "I am sorry. You must have been so devastated and yet, I was not there by your side," he said. Kissing the back of her hand, he added, "I will not let this happen again... ever."She knelt before him and smiled."Stop apologizing. What happened when you were gone was out of our control. Besides, the person who poisoned him is already in prison."Gavin saw the bitter smile plastered on his wife's lips, giving him the signal that he should not ask who the culprit was. Thus, he simply cupped her cheeks and kissed her on the forehead. Meanwhile, back in Clanera City, Valerie and Chiavelli went to visit Valerie's parents before they permanently moved o
After the chaotic and stressful days that Shantala had gone through, she slept for almost half a day straight. If only she had not heard someone talking, she could have possibly slept longer. Still feeling sleepy, she slightly opened her eyes and realized that she had fallen asleep while looking after Gavin. Thinking that the talking she just heard was simply part of her dream, she shut her eyes once more and was about to drift back to her dreamland. But then, when the doctor and a pair of nurses left the room and shut the door closed, she flung her eyes wide open. The first thing she did was to reach for her phone to check the time but she felt that it was missing from where she placed it. She got up only to feel sudden back pain."Ow, ow, ow," she groaned while trying to straighten her back. "I should have not slept in that position.""Sorry, I wanted to have you transferred to another bed so you can sleep comfortably. But I did not want to wake you."
"Mr. Devon had been trying to do that but you might as well know that Hyperion is keeping a close watch on her. Our men could not even get near her. But if you want to get killed first by him, then you can go ahead and hurt that woman." Phoebe clicked her tongue. If only Hyperion was out of the picture, things could have been easier. But then, her mood slowly changed when she came up with an idea. If she cannot get rid of Shantala by killing her, then she will resort to using Hyperion. "I will go and see Hyperion," she said before storming out of the office. "I am such a genius for thinking that way." Just like that, she drove to Heartland Company and immediately went to the reception desk. "Is Helios Ranford here?" she asked. "Yes, ma'am. Did you make an appointment?" This made the young heiress roll her eyes to the side. "A Romalia heir does not make any appointments," she rep
"Stop acting like a saint, Shantala!" Stacey screamed in rage as she stood from her seat. She tried to grab her, baring her teeth but the glass that separated them stopped her from laying a finger on her sister."You are fucking tainted by tons of men! So you are no fucking saint! You know that better than anyone! And don't you act like you are the victim here when you are the one who stole my husband! You ruined our relationship, keep that in your mind. And do not ever look at me with those eyes because I do not need your pity! If you ever forgive me, I will hate you even if I forever suffer in the fires of hell!"Shantala smiled bitterly and said, "I never said that I am forgiving you, Stacey. Whether you are my sister or not, it does not change the fact that you killed my son who did nothing to you. Seeing that you do not regret anything, then I shall let you rot in here. I owe you no explanation since it is your husband who messed up. I intervened before to sav
Meanwhile, Hyperion and Shantala were already on their way to the cemetery where Trevor's funeral was to be held. Only silence ruled over the two as they patiently drove through the heavy traffic. But after a few minutes, Hyperion finally broke the ice surrounding them."About what you said a while ago..." he said. "Do you really mean it?"Instead of answering him either a yes or no, she threw questions instead and along with it was a hint of sarcasm and anger."Why? Are you happy that you are finally getting what you wanted? And since that will happen in the future, are you going to divorce my sister now? Should we celebrate then?""We already settled our separation yesterday."Shantala immediately turned to him with wide eyes. She thought that it would take quite some time for it to happen, especially since Stacey did not want to divorce him. "What did you do?" she asked with gritted teeth. But even after a minute of
Shantala grew up as the breadwinner of her family. She worked harder and even sold her body to earn money for their expenses. There was not a time that she thought of doing something that put herself first before anyone else until Gavin proposed to her. He was the man she never knew who would make her feel wanted, loved, and adored despite her bitter past... even though she had a son from another man. However, all she had been fighting for up until this moment seemed to be slowly being taken away from her. First, she lost her brother and her sister hated her. And now, her son also left her. Will she also lose her husband? That question never left her when the doctor told her that Gavin's situation was still unstable even though the surgery conducted was successful.Half a day had already passed and yet, there was still no sign of Gavin ever waking up."He was driving at full speed and was about to crash into another car. He immediately steered to the right
This time, she pulled away from him and looked him directly in the eyes."Can you, at least, explain to me how he ended up like this? I gave way and let him be under your supervision, Hyperion, with the hope that you would look after him... because whether I like it or not, you are still his father. But what exactly happened?"The mafia boss felt cornered for the very first time. This was no situation he could get away with because, first and foremost, she deserved to know the truth. Lying to her would not make things any better. Thus, he replied, "Stacey gave him the poison."Hearing his response, Shantala immediately slapped him across the face. Her hand throbbed in pain but seeing the red mark on Hyperion's cheek satisfied her nonetheless."And you did not do anything about it!" she hissed."I did not know, Shantala. I thought she decided to finally accept Trevor–"She slapped him for the second time but this time, sh
The words of the doctor seemed to have killed Shantala's soul as they replayed in her mind like a broken record. Her sobs ceased and her tears stopped falling down her cheeks as if everything inside her had been frozen over. Without saying another word, she walked past the doctor and nurses and slowly entered the emergency room filled with deafening silence. Her eyes were locked onto the bed where her son was lying–unmoving and breathless. When she stood near him, she held his small hand and cupped his cheek. She wanted to believe that this was not real... that she was just having the most terrible nightmare. However, the reality was that she was holding her son right there and then just slapped her with the fact that it was no mere nightmare."Honey," she muttered, "Mommy's here already. It's okay now, please. Please, honey, open your eyes. Let's go back home. Papa is already here... He is coming for you... for the both of us so we could all go back home. Ho
Before she could take the time to digest the bombarding information, another person entered the scene—Hyperion showed up with his men just behind him. Valerie saw him and her resolution of helping Shantala instead of fleeing fueled her to go up to him and tell him the secret she had kept for years. She also considered this as a way to finally drop the burden she had been carrying as well as to free her and Machiavelli from having to hide and run away. Walking in his direction; she gathered every ounce of her courage."Drop the charge against Shantala, Helios. She... She did not kill Tricia... she did not kill me. I-I actually planned to deceive you that night and run away with another man because I never loved you. It was the only way I thought of to escape from you. And it just so happened that Shantala got there–""Get out of my way," Hyperion demanded. His piercing gaze was cold and the tone of his voice sent shivers down Valerie's spine, mak
