Chapter 213

Author: Summer Blossom
Julian frowned from across the table. He had initially assumed that Macie had run into Sean because of Alice, but now, he vaguely sensed the presence of a love rival.

"I happened to arrive early, and since we were short-staffed at the time, I offered to help with the coffee," Macie explained, maintaining her professional smile.

Sean's eyes crinkled with amusement as he watched Macie get riled up by his teasing. But, of course, he wasn't exactly the nicest guy. He reached out and picked up the cup of coffee. He remarked, "I don't usually drink coffee made by just anyone, but since you went through all the trouble, I'll make an exception."

That only made annoyed Macie further. Her gaze locked on the cup in his hand, and for a split second, she genuinely wanted to throw it in his face. If she'd known that this self-absorbed, overconfident narcissist was their client that day, she would've just grabbed a packet of instant coffee from the pantry and called it a day.

Sean watched Macie from his seat. Her expression clearly showed her reluctance and frustration, but she still managed to force a smile and say the obligatory things to please him, doing so for the sake of the company. He found it all a bit amusing. Across from him, Julian noticed Sean's gaze lingering on Macie as she took her seat. His hand, resting on the table, instinctively clenched into a fist."Mr. Hart, don't keep teasing my staff. She's new here and pretty shy," Julian said, smiling.Sean pulled his gaze away and nodded. "Yeah. She may be a little shy, but she'll get better with more experience." Julian and the rest of the people in the room were at a loss for words. They thought that Sean was really just begging for a slap with that comment. At the far end of the table, Macie, hearing their conversation, clenched the papers in front of her. She thought that Sean was very frustrating. He knew that she wasn't some random woman, but still acted like he was trying to put h

  • Who's the One Regretting Now?   Chapter 1

Two incidents happened on the day Macie Smith decided to get a divorce.Firstly, Edward Fowler's first love, Sharon Emerson, returned to the country. To celebrate the occasion, he spent a fortune to rent a cruise, where he spent two wild days and nights with her.The media widely covered the rumors of them potentially getting back together.Secondly, Macie had accepted the invitation of a college senior to rejoin the company they had founded before as a director. She would leave this place after a month. Naturally, no one cared about her plans. To Edward, she was akin to a maid who had married into the Fowler family.During this time, Macie quietly removed all traces of her in the Fowler residence. She bought a flight ticket out of the city without anyone knowing. In three days, nothing here would concern her anymore. She and Edward would become strangers.…"I need two portions of soup. Get it delivered now."A text notification popped up on Macie's phone. She frowned at Ed

Edward left in great strides, holding Sharon in his arms. When he walked through the door, he accidentally bumped into Macie's shoulder, causing her to stumble and fall down beside the door frame. The searing pain coming from the top of her foot and her shin made her hold on tightly to the door frame.People in the room shot her funny looks. Some looked on with disdain. But that didn't matter to Macie anymore. She slowly got up and turned around. Holding onto the wall, she inched out of the room with much difficulty. When Macie arrived at the hospital, the nurse who approached to treat her wound inhaled sharply upon seeing the injury on Macie's foot. She took in the massive and tiny blisters around Macie's wound, gasping, "Oh my God! How did this happen?"Macie clenched her jaw from the excruciating pain. Her cheek muscles were sore, and she struggled to answer the nurse. The nurse sighed while applying the medication. She explained, "Just now, we had a patient with burns. Her b

Edward paused in surprise and pursed his lips. He stared ahead of him but ultimately said nothing.Macie listened to the conversation between him and Sharon. A mocking smile was played on her lips. She might be Edward's legal spouse, but in reality, she felt like the third wheel between Edward and Sharon.Edward walked on while Sharon trotted beside him. Macie did not want to interact with Sharon, but that didn't stop the latter from stirring up trouble."May, it must have hurt. I'm so sorry. Edward had sent me to the hospital first because he was worried about the impact on my career. I hope you don't blame him," Sharon said.Smirking, Macie replied flatly, "I don't blame you. You're the most important person to him."Although Macie was speaking the truth, it sounded like she was taking a jab at Edward. Displeased, he fired back, "What's with that tone? Even if Sharon was the one who lost her grip on the container, you were also responsible for not securing the lid."Macie did

It was 11:00 pm when Macie got home. She didn't keep the lights in the living room on because she knew that Edward might spend the night with Sharon elsewhere. He wouldn't come home. She carried the first-aid kit and hauled her pain-ridden body to her small bedroom. Her two-year marriage was just a sham. Edward saved himself for Sharon and refused to let Macie anywhere near his main bedroom. When she thought back to it, she realized that it wasn't that bad after all. She'd be disgusted with herself if Edward took her.She quickly disinfected the wounds on her elbow and the back of her feet. When she was done, she was too spent to even store away the first-aid kit. She left it on her bedside table, thinking to put it away the next morning. She changed into her pajamas and lay in bed. Pain shot up from the base of her spine as she shifted, forcing her to inhale sharply. She softened her movements. Eyes closed, she shut all the thoughts out of her mind. Soon, she grew drowsy.Meanw

Macie had almost fallen asleep, but she stirred awake and frowned when Edward banged on the door. She got up and turned on the lights, her brows furrowed. Then, she limped to the door.Edward's fist hit the air when she opened the door."Mac—""Why are you home, and why the heck are you banging on my door at midnight?" she snapped at him impatiently. Her attitude fueled his anger further. He immediately grabbed her arm and yelled at her, "What's with that question? Can't I return to my house?"Macie's impatience immediately vanished. Instead, she lowered her head and looked upset. At first, Edward thought that she had caved in from being intimidated, but she reached out to take his hand off hers. At that moment, he sensed something amiss. He released her hand and spotted blood on his palm.It turned out that he had hurt her wound by squeezing her arm too hard.Macie stared at the man before her through tears. He had caused a scene in the middle of the night."Are you hurt?"

Edward didn't sleep well through the night. His stomach had become sensitive, and even medication only provided slight relief. It was far from recovery or comfort. He woke up early before the alarm rang. As he stepped out of his room, he nearly collided with Macie, who was leaving her room that was just across the corridor."What are you doing?" he asked instinctively."Making breakfast," Macie replied flatly as she stumbled toward the kitchen.Edward stood frozen in place. He had always woken up and had breakfast without paying attention to who prepared the meals. It never occurred to him that she had been waking up at 5:00 am every morning to cook.Watching her slightly unsteady figure, he said, "You don't have to."Macie stopped in her tracks and turned her head back. For two years, she had attended to Edward. She had to get up and cook even when she had a fever. He had tormented her in every possible way. This was the first time he had told her that she didn't have to cook.

Macie looked up at him, clenching her fists. She scoffed silently. She was heavily injured, yet Edward insisted that she make dinner just to ensure that his beloved could eat. She had underestimated Edward. He was truly completely heartless."Can't you guys order takeout? I'm pretty sure plenty of restaurants do delivery. It's not like you can't spare the money," she said.Edward pursed his lips and averted his gaze. He was just about to take his phone out when Sharon spoke up. "May, I came to visit you with the intention to make you dinner. It seems rather insincere of me to order takeout…""Then are you making dinner?" Macie retorted coldly."I'm not very familiar with the kitchen. I broke a plate earlier. Edward was so worried about me," Sharon said, blinking innocently. "How about this, May? I'll help you out by setting the table. We'll consider that as me making dinner, okay?"She smiled brightly, but to Macie, it looked incredibly insincere. It looked like Sharon was determined

Julian nodded and said, "Palmer has always been detail-oriented. Go ahead. It's in the left corner of my office. The clients have already arrived downstairs, so I'm going to greet them. As for the coffee, don't stress over it. Even if it's not perfect, it's fine. He's probably not going to drink it anyway, so just the gesture will do."Macie understood what he meant. The client likely wouldn't care for their company's coffee since they were picky. She went into Julian's office, walked toward the coffee machine, measured out the coffee grounds, and started brewing. While the coffee brewed, she whipped up a layer of milk foam and poured it over the coffee, drawing a simple leaf design in the foam.By the time she returned to the conference room with the coffee, the clients had already arrived. Julian was seated at the head of the table on the right, while the client was at the left end. The two of them were in the middle of a conversation.Macie could only see the man's sharp jawline

Meanwhile, at the Fowler residence, news of the incident outside the business gathering soon reached Yosef. He was livid. "Mr. Fowler Senior, please… have some water," Nolan said, handing him a glass of warm water.Yosef took a sip, calmed down a little, and sighed heavily. "What was he thinking? He's just humiliating himself, bringing about his own downfall. Fortunately, the Harts weren't injured. Forget about a marriage alliance. This might just turn us into enemies."Nolan tried to reassure him, saying, "Mr. Fowler knows where to draw the line. He wouldn't actually hurt anyone.""Did you already forget how we had to bail him out of the police station last Friday night? Do you really think he wouldn't dare hurt anyone? I think he'd even kill someone if it came to that!" fumed Yosef.Nolan fell silent for a moment before responding, "But… this was the Hart family. Mr. Fowler would at least weigh the consequences.""He got his own father so worked up that he ended up in the hosp

Sean quietly finished his soup. Once his stomach felt warm and settled, he opened the other two containers. One had a small serving of pasta, and the other had braised ribs. He ate everything, and by the end, the containers were spotless. There wasn't even a crumb left."Well, how was it? Good, right?" Alice asked, watching him polish off the last bite.Sean nodded and, for once, didn't hold back his praise. "It was terrific." He then added, "So I'll let it slide. I won't hold what happened against you." After all, he had eaten the meal Macie made.Alice breathed a sigh of relief when she heard that, only for Sean to follow up with, "But don't make a habit of it. If word gets out, it'd be bad for Macie."Alice nodded like a bobblehead and swore up and down that this would be a one-time thing. She then took the thermos back from Sean. After getting out of the car, she noticed that Edward and the others had already left. When she got back to her Ferrari, she heard footsteps behind h

Sean was about to leave, but before he did, he delivered the final blow. He said, "Macie's a real gem. She's beautiful and has a fantastic figure. Her waist is so slim that I can hold her with one hand. Her hands are soft, smooth, and pale. "But she's a little skinny. No worries, though. I'll fatten her up soon."Edward and Alice were both dumbstruck. Consumed with jealousy, all Edward could see was red as he glared at Sean's retreating figure. "Damn you! Get the hell away from Macie! Stay out of other people's marriages, you home-wrecking bastard! "I won't let this slide, you hear me? You'd better watch your back! I'm going to bring down Hart Group and make sure you disappear from Williamford for good!" However, his outburst didn't make Sean turn around at all. The latter kept walking with one hand in his pocket, looking like he couldn't care less about what Edward had said.Alice, still frozen in shock, snapped back to her senses when she noticed her brother walking away. The Hart family's driver was doing his best to hold Edward back while Alice took a few steps back, adding fuel to the fire. She sniped, "Even if Macie told you herself, I bet you'd still be in denial. Why don't I call you when they go out on a date and kiss? I'll reserve front row seats, just for you!"Edward snapped, shoving the driver out of the way. Alice hurriedly backed away and thought, "Crap. I've gone too far!" It seemed that Edward had truly lost it.As she turned to run, her high heels tripped her up, and Alice let out a startled gasp. Edward was almost in front of her, his hand stretched out like a claw. Just as disaster was about to strike, two security guards leaped in—one from the left and one from the right—grabbing hold of Edward. Meanwhile, a large hand caught the thermos that was about to slip from Alice's grasp. Then, a calm voice sounded. "Careful. My girlfriend made that soup. It would be a shame to spill it."Alice steadied herself and noticed that the voic

Meanwhile, a red Ferrari pulled up outside the mansion. Alice stepped out with a thermal food container in hand. After reading Sean's message, she thought, "There's no way Edward could do anything to me. Not unless he wants to end up in prison."She wasn't Macie, who had been tortured but couldn't fight back because of the influence Fowler Group wielded. If Edward messed with her, he'd regret it. With that sneer fresh on her face, she suddenly spotted someone running toward her in the distance. She squinted and realized that it was none other than Edward.Instinctively, she stepped aside. She wasn't afraid of the Fowlers, but a punch would still hurt. Moreover, her older brother hadn't shown up yet.As the man drew closer, she had already moved out of the way. Alice assumed that Edward was charging at her, but instead, he blew right past her. Alice was dumbfounded. She turned around and noticed him rushing up to her Ferrari. He bent down, knocked on the window, and called out Ma

Edward snorted and asked, "Do you guys know Bennett?"Brian, Frederick, and Stephen nodded in confirmation. Of course they knew him. Bennett was Edward's father, after all.The three of them wondered why Edward brought his father up until his voice dropped into a dark, chilling tone. "I yelled at him until he fainted. He's still in the hospital. If you three want to find out what that's like, by all means, stay here."The three businessmen were at a loss for words."Why don't you and Mr. Hart catch up, Mr. Fowler? I just remembered that Mr. Zuniga was looking for me…" Frederick blurted. He gave a forced smile to Edward."Right. I should be heading out as well. Let's talk business another time," Stephen added hastily. The two of them practically dragged Brian away and disappeared into the crowd. Judging by their expressions, they probably wouldn't dare strike up a conversation with Edward ever again. They had never heard of Edward having such a bad temper. They couldn't believe t
