Liber Somniorum is an old book that contains the mystery of dreams and how to navigate its plains. It explains how the plains of dreams are divided. First is the 'Shallows', a place where you will find yourself at the beginning of your sleep, the outside can influence your dreams and manipulate them based on your understanding, for example, the sound of water dripping outside can be projected in one's dream. Second is the 'Plain of Desire and Idea', it is the largest part of the plains and the most crowded, this is the place where your normal dreams happen. The third is the 'Deep', a place where people find themselves deep asleep that they experience no dreams at all. Next is the so-called 'Twilight Zone', a place filled with miasma that comes from the abyss, the miasma induces nightmares in the people who come in contact with it, the twilight zone on occasion erupts thus sending miasma towards the upper portion of the plains and may even cause the dreamer to experience sleep paralysis. And lastly the 'Abyss', the abyss is the deepest part of the plains it is the main cost of miasma, although no one can prove where exactly it comes from, people who come in contact with the abyss slowly turn insane the longer their exposure is, the abyss is filled with miasma that traveling in it can be very slow thus prolonging a person’s exposure in it.
The plains of sleep are mostly inhabited by people which classify as dreamers, dreamers are normal people who are connected by "Tethers" from which is connected to their physical body, they constantly float and drift between the plains of sleep and if they wish to wake they unconsciously use the tether to return to their bodies. A dreamer's emotional baggage can affect the speed of their descent and return, most people who are experiencing stress or had traumas float near the twilight zone thus making them susceptible to the miasma. Dreamers who found themselves tainted by the miasma coming from the abyss suffer nightmares with varying degrees depending on the exposure or how thick the miasma is. Some dreamers who have suffered prolonged exposure from the miasma can either become a 'Stranded' or worse become a 'Taken', stranded dreamers may have their tethers badly corroded thus broken resulting in the physical body falling into a coma, taken dreamers are people with broken tethers that unfortunately drifted down the abyss, the dreamers "soul" will then be corrupted beyond repair resulting the body to become brain dead.
Special dreamers which are called 'Lucid Dreamers' are people who can "swim freely" in the 'Plain of Desire and Idea' thus granting them the ability to control their perceived dreams albeit they do it unconsciously. Very few lucid dreamers can master this ability and swim freely on the plains of sleep thus having the ability to technically turn your dreams on and off as you swim towards the deep, these people are classified as 'Lucid Divers'. A few of these Lucid Divers have the ability to reconnect a dreamer's broken tether thus waking them up, these special people are called 'Dream Callers' and are considered as Master of Dreams.
Although Dream Callers are masters of dreams, most of those who ventured into the abyss was taken by it, and the unlucky few who woke up turned insane and killed themselves speaking about the horrors that lies in the abyss.
Phil read the book with great interest that the next time he noticed the sky was getting brighter, he wanted to master the ability to control his dreams so that he won't be plagued with nightmares anymore. He arrived at his school with dark bags under his eyes, he was excited to share the contents of his book with his friends. He saw Eric chatting with some girls and approached him, the girls saw Phil and were clearly annoyed, Eric sighed in relief as he saw Phil and walked towards him.
"Sorry girls I need to excuse myself."
The girls were disappointed and were staring daggers at Phil.
"Hey Bro, what's up with you? Did you have another nightmare?"
"No, I did not, I found this really strange and cool book and I want to share it with you and Sonja. Where is she by the way?"
"She's in the library with Samantha, apparently she saw Samantha getting bullied again and helped her."
Phil and Eric walked towards the library, Phil clearly excited to share his experience while Eric was a little curious. In the library, they saw Sonja sitting on a Desk with Samantha on the opposite of her who was gloomy looking down.
"Hello Sonj, what's up with her?"
"Morning Phil, she's just a little shy."
"Did you scold her again, anyway look at this book that I found, it's really weird and interesting."
Phil took the old book out of his bag and placed it on the table so that everyone can see it, Samantha was even curious and took a glance at the book.
"It talks about dreams and how to navigate it apparently."
Sonja and the others watched the old book curiously, the cover depicts a compass with a crescent moon covering one side while a greek ship at the bottom carrying the two, the words Liber Somniorum etched in gold seem to be the title of the book.
"The Book of Dreams."
Samantha whispered. Phil and his friends looked at Samantha.
"That's what the title means, The Book of Dreams."
Samantha explained shyly. After Samantha's explanation, they returned and curiously read the book again. Phil then flipped the book and stopped at the page which explains how to control your dreams and a set of practices on becoming a Lucid Dreamer. Eric and Sonja were intrigued and wanted to practice as well, while Samantha was more concerned about how they treated the old book roughly, she even held her breath as Phil flipped the pages recklessly. Eric and Sonja wanted a copy of the practice and asked Samantha to use the library photocopy machine, Phil even gave Samantha a copy after they photocopied it as a payment for her service.
After School was over the trio hurried home and were excited to try and practice so that they can control their dreams. At night after reading and re-reading the book again, Phil laid down and relaxed he immersed himself and recall the practice as he slowly fell asleep. Phil woke up and felt himself dreaming he tried to control his surroundings and to his glee, his surrounding changed. Phil imagined that he was a superhero and flew to the sky, he gave himself some superpowers as he savored the feeling and enjoyed himself, and he imagined traveling around the world and conjuring weapons that he used to fight against bad guys. But little did he know a shadow figure was staring at him all the time, it watched him change his dream, but instead of getting angry that he could no longer terrorize him in his sleep, it smiled with glee with its many mouths dotted all over its body.
Sonja found herself in a void, everything was dark but oddly it was not scary. Sonja liked the feeling of peace and quiet as she immersed herself in this newfound feeling. Eric found himself in a situation like Sonja, Eric willed and changed the dream and everything changed, now he found himself in a grassy field while the gentle wind blew through his hair, but instead of getting excited from these god-like powers, Eric felt bored he knew it was just a dream. He stood still and quietly closed his eyes, he knew he could do better than this, he knew that this was merely an illusion and wanted to go deeper. Eric opened his eyes and saw himself floating, he looked around and saw white figures in fetal position floating around him, and all figures around him had a golden rope connected to their heads. Eric was intrigued by this and knew that this might be the 'Plains of Sleep', he felt that navigating these plains was like swimming in the ocean while traveling and looking around, he saw figures that were moving and waking up, it slowly grabbed the golden rope on its head and yanked it gently, the figure was then whisked away ascending quickly and disappearing on Eric's vision, he assumed that the figure woke up in the real world.
As Eric continued his journey he saw a figure that had no tether on it, the figure was slowly sinking and Eric chose to follow it out of curiosity. He swam deeper and deeper until he saw a place filled with dark smoke billowing around, he stopped on his tracks as a sense of panic swept over him, he slowly calmed himself and told himself that everything was okay, he watched as the figure slowly descended and came in contact with the miasma, at first nothing happened and the figure kept on descending. Eric thought that maybe it wasn't that scary, he was about to swim down and look for himself when suddenly the white figure that was slowly descending down came to life it hurriedly tried to swim up it clawed its way as it tried to escape the miasma, it was slowly being corroded by the miasma and black spots were starting to appear on its body, it noticed Eric and reached its arm towards him begging him for his help, but the miasma grabbed the white figure as shadowy arms formed and dragged the figure down towards the abyss. Eric saw it all and he was paralyzed with fear, he saw the white figure looking at him even though it did not have a face he knew it was begging him for his help. Eric was petrified and stared at the abyss he had a creepy feeling that the abyss were staring back at him.
Eric woke up in cold sweat; he clutched his head in pain as he remembered the shadow hands that grabbed the white figure. But even though he was afraid some part of him was curious, curious to see if the answers he was looking for can be found in the abyss. Eric walked out of his room and made his way downstairs, the house was oddly quiet, he looked at the clock and to his surprise, it was already noon thankfully it was a Saturday and there was no reason for Eric to go to school. Eric made his way towards his father's private laboratory, his father was not home at the moment and Eric guessed that his father must be at the institute and working today, he slowly walked towards a room in the far corner o
Phil looked around him and smiled contently, he had achieved his goals in coming to the 'Plain of Sleep'. Curious about everything surrounding him, he swam around and looked everywhere. Phil remembered about what was beyond the shallows that his grandfather had seen and he wanted to see it for himself, at first he swam slowly, he felt like he was swimming in syrup and that it was hard to move around but he persevered and arrived at the 'shallow'. Phil looked up towards the sky, but to his surprise what he saw was not the sky his grandfather was talking about, but a reflection of himself. The surface of the shallows was like a mirror, he found it odd since his grandfather di
It was already the next morning when Phil woke up tired and hungry, he was confused since he was asleep the whole time and he soon discovered why this was the case. Traveling in the plains of sleep depletes your energy since 'Lucid Divers' do not connect to their tethers and directly use the energy of their souls resulting in the diver feeling exhausted once he wakes up rather than refreshed like the normal dreamers. Phil walked out of his room to head downstairs and eat his breakfast since he was famished. When he arrived he found that his parents were packing their respective bags. "Mom Dad where are you
Phil froze as the old man's embrace grew tighter. "Set... Me... Free... Phil..." The old man grew thick black tentacles in his back, his face melted in a black puddle revealing dark holes as numerous as honeycombs on his head. Moments later black caterpillars crawl out of the holes on the old man's face. The caterpillars were abominations as well, their bodies are filled with black hairs, and their heads were that of Phil when he was young crying to his grandpa while others were smiling. The caterpillars simult
Phil sat down on his seat not listening to Seth's discussion, he was still imagining how to best approach his situation with Jess. Phil lost in his thoughts started to daydream. A tall and handsome Phil was standing in front of the door when suddenly it opened and a beautiful Jess walked out clutching a stack of paper emphasizing her chest. Her red high heels clicked as she walked closer to Phil. She slipped and the papers were thrown in the air, Phil reached out for the papers with one hand while the other grabbed and hug Jess on her back. Like dancing in a tango both bodies were close as the last paper slowly drifted down and Phil caught it with his teeth.
Phil slowly picked up the papers hidden in the compartment of the back cover, he tried to read it but noticed that it was not written in the Roman alphabet. Phil tried to make sense of what was written in the paper since most of them had illustrations of some kind of being. Phil looked at the page that he deemed the oldest since it was made of some unknown leather. A colossal monster was chained and buried deep somewhere was one of the drawings that Phil saw, the next page was a moon overlooking the colossal monster acting as a guard and lastly was an altar. Phil thought that the content of these pages might have the answer to why he is always having a nightmare, but the problem was that he could not
In a remote and rundown town in Egypt, an old man was slowly walking looking at the now empty houses that surrounds him, the sound of his cane echoed on the dusty and war-torn walls. The old man frowned, he could still smell the scent of death permeating the whole town even though no bodies or remains can be seen in plain sight. He proceeded to walk and entered a building located in the center of the now-abandoned town. Waiting for him inside was a girl with red hair, she was wearing a white jacket and sportswear underneath.&nbs
Phil decided to relax first before he go and dive into the 'plains of sleep’; he was also preparing himself for what horrors he might see deep in the abyss. Phil exhaled as he strengthens his resolve to dive deeper and know the truth about the meaning of his recurring nightmare. He proceeded to lie on his bed and tuck his arms on his side, he slowed his breathing and closed his eyes, he thought about the green plains he had manifested before and made that a rest stop of sort for his future journey. Phil felt a sinking feeling as he slowly drifted down fully asleep now. When he felt the wind blowing
"Look for another cave boy. I do not trust that cave anymore, the prisoner might have planted a trap for you inside the black goo." Phil nodded upon hearing what Ferox has to offer. He swam inside the walls of the prison and decided to head towards the opposite side from where the past cave was located. It took Phil almost all of his current energy to arrive in a habitable cavern. Before he entered he stared at the prisoner that was lying with its head down inside the black goo, bubbles of air could be seen popping up near its mouth located in its belly. Phil could not believe how a crazed being could be cu
After overcoming his dejection, Phil attentively listens to Ferox's explanation of how to properly control his violent urges. "Okay boy, first things first. Do not be overwhelmed by your cruel urges. No matter what the voices inside your head whisper, do not do it. Even if the sigil is not activated, the urge to do violent things is magnified because of its presence. One more thing, this does not apply just to those that are around you, but to you as well, your body to be specific. For example, if you are in a situation where you want to scratch yourself because of a minor inconvenience and the sigil activates, you might end up with heavy injuries due to not being able to control yourself and scratch yo
The feeling of weightlessness overwhelmed Phil, the biting cold of the dark embraced his bloody body. He lays unconscious in the ever-expanding darkness. But suddenly a bright red glow tore the peace that was brought by the endless dark. "AHHHGGGG!!" Phil clutched his left eye which was throbbing in pain. "AHH!! Why is this happening, I...I thought I was dead."&

Still, the headline was about a serial mass murdered on the loose, the newest victim was a boy found dead inside a bathroom in a convenience store. I flipped the page as I grew tired of waiting. I looked to my left and right and saw both my parents and Eric, sitting perfectly still on their seats. Thankfully my parents were not trying to dirty the floor anymore, must have used up al

Now let me look at you clearly first since I could not see you clearly when I was in my domain." My body started to glow a red hue but it only lasted for a moment. "Hmmm, 25 points of energy. This is worse than a chick that had not grown its feathers, this is a chick that has just hatched out of its egg and is still wet. Ugh, you could not even kill a nightmare origin swi
"Ferox? Who are you? I don't know you. Where did En go?" Confusion painted my face, hearing the deep and brutish voice that had replaced En's calm and gentle voice. "I'm here Phil. Sorry for leaving you like that. The being tasked me with contacting Ferox to try and teach you to use your energy more efficiently." I sighed in relief after hearing En's voice. Although mere minutes ago I resented him for leaving and not
The sky was crimson on an eternal afternoon, the sun was halfway set beyond the horizon. A red haze filled the air as the smell of blood filled my nostrils. The caw of legions of crows is the only sound that could be heard. Dry bones of various creatures lay strewn all over the floor as the crow themselves help pick whatever flesh remains on them. The sound of cracking was audible as I walked towards a spire of blood and gore, watched by the crows with their dark black eyes. Countless lifeless bodies piled up in large numbers slowly decaying, from the most recent kill at the top to the dry bones at the bottom. A figure sat on a throne of bone, adorned only with the beings that were adequate to enterta
I woke and saw that my energy bar was almost full. I stared at the ceiling of the cave, thinking how far I will go in the next attempt and how long would I be trapped inside this prison. I wondered if ever I will be successful in leaving this place or be like Eric’s mother, forever trapped inside the abyss of dreams. Although I have been trapped here for almost a day now, the lack of sunlight or any light for that matter makes you confused of what time of day it was now. The only source of luminous light I could see was Eclaireuse’s barrier. Although I was given the power to see in the darkness which I only noticed after being trapped inside this dark abyss and since I could not freely use my power in the real world, for that I was thankful or I would be utterly blind navigating inside this prison with a dangerous guard just outside the confines of the cave.&
The multiple eyes on the giant abomination started to open and move erratically. The prisoner tried to defy the force that was making it kneel down, the mouth that was located near its abdomen started to take in air, large amounts of goo started to seep out of its body. En shouted inside my head to take shelter and cover my ears. The prisoner with all its might yanked the chains that bind it and screamed on the top of its lungs. Its deep below shook the surroundings, my ears started to bleed while my head started to fill up with malicious thoughts. En tried with all his best to keep me sane while Eclaireuse although a little exhausted used her remaining soul force to create a barrier.&nb
