Chapter 61

Ava walked down the hallways of the palace wearing a dark purple cloak and hood that obscured her face. Although Rus walking behind her was a dead giveaway of her identity. The light of the palace had been dimmed and only fire torches lit up the hallways.

"At least cover your face!" she whisper-yelled looking back at Rus.

His shoulders sagged in defeat as he removed a handkerchief from his pocket and tied it around his face over the nose. The two discreetly walked with light steps until they reached the basement of the palace where there were no guards stationed outside.

"That's odd," Rus said. "There should've been two guards here. Maybe whatever they were guarding isn't here anymore. We're chasing a dead end."

"If that's true then we have missed an opportunity," she said opening the metal door in the basement and stepping further down. "It is pitch black in here," she whispered looking at him. "Do you have a flashlight?"
