Noah’s father is none other than the most famous baseball player in the whole of Oaken Hills. As a teenager he used to play for a very well-known team and received a lot of sponsors. It was right before he went up to bat that he slipped down a flight of stairs and broke his leg. His leg had healed but he was never able to play again due to the severity of the injury.
This had broken him more than anything and he gave up on the sport he loved and destroyed anything to do with it. He became a well-known banker as a backup and it made him quite rich in Oaken Falls. When his son was born, he was overjoyed. This was his chance to play sports again and he was so happy he didn’t even care what sport so as his beloved son grew up, he was taught to play every sport there was.
Noah was now a sophomore and captain of the football team and the basketball team. He also filled in for the baseball and tennis teams for competitions. There was never a more athletic guy in the school than him and he was well on his way to getting a sports scholarship so you would never guess what he might be hiding. Every day after clubs were over at around half 4, he would sneak his way into the drama club’s costume room. They were always the first club to finish so they would have all left by now. Why would a sports star like him be sneaking into an empty room at the same time every day after school?
The lights were never switched on instead Noah pulled a lantern out of his bag and switched it on so he could see where he was going and it seemed whoever he was meeting had already gotten there first.
“It’s 4:32 you are late you know.” The voice spoke.
“It’s difficult to navigate this room in the dark, especially now with a fresh play coming up. The drama club keeps moving things around here.” Noah whispered.
The one Noah was talking to was none other than Dylan Tyne. He was the main drummer in the school’s marching band and took his role very seriously. He was a good kid and never dared get into trouble with anyone. His parents were killed in a car accident when he was a baby and his grandparents who raised him have always been strict.
They wanted him to be like his father and get into music so they pressured him into joining the marching band. Dylan knew they did it out of love and because they just wanted to hold on to their memories of his father so he has always done whatever they asked so why is he hiding out in the school’s costume room with Noah?
“How was band practice?” Noah asked.
“I love music but this is ever so tiring and repetitive. I get the importance of timing and teamwork but I am so bored. I love music but this is not my future. How was sports today?” Dylan asked.
“I wish I could tell my father I couldn’t care less about any sports and the more I am forced into it the more I hate it but that is the reason I exist.” Noah replied.
“One more year and we graduate and our grand plan can come into fruition. No more hiding in creepy closets.” Dylan said.
“The worst part is that we’re in a closet so our families don’t find out what we’re planning.” Noah said, holding Dylan’s hand.
“Let’s ignore the now like every day and focus on the future. I’m going to be the greatest composer there is. You will hear my music in so many films it will blow your mind. It’s a good thing I can play drums, guitar, flute and piano so well. You are going to be the greatest architect this world has ever seen. We’ll conquer this place together just like we planned.” Dylan explained.
“Every week we will match our schedules to see when we’re free and we’ll book in time for each other.” Noah said.
“When someone tells us, a great opportunity comes up, we will apologise but have to re-book.” Dylan replied. “Do you remember why?”
“There will always be other opportunities but there will never be anyone like him so I thank you for your gracious opportunity but I’m afraid I already have love scheduled for that particular moment. I do hope you can understand and I would love to re-book at a later opportunity if that suits you.” Noah recited.
“It still sounds corny when you say it out loud but it’s true. Once we graduate even if we’re apart we will always be together. Plus, we have that hidden diary app on our phones that we fill in every time we get an update on anything important.” Dylan laughed.
“From the moment you threw a rock at me when we were kids, I knew it would just be us against the world and I’m ok with that.” Noah said.
“From the moment you dressed as a possessed oak tree to terrify me so much that I threw a rock at you I knew I would be able to face anything with you by my side and I’m ok with that.” Dylan replied.
This was their secret. Dylan and Noah loved each other so much but the lives they wanted did not match the lives their families wanted for them so they would meet in secret each day and talk about the day they would be done with school and start their grand plans into the future. Some people however had secrets that were not known to anybody which could easily be taken as suspicious.
There was Jill the bookworm who spent most of her time at the library or at home with curtains shut. At least people thought it was her home and there was Wren the outcast who appeared to be living all alone in the junk-yard on the edge of Oaken Hills. This didn’t seem to be a good idea with such a powerful storm on its way.
Sometimes people like Wren don’t have secrets because there are consequences to people finding out what they’re hiding. Mrs Quill was the only one who found out his secret and after making a deal with Wren she vowed to take it to her grave. It was on a late night after work that she didn’t want to cook dinner so she ate out at the diner on the way home. When she was leaving, she heard a noise coming from the alley behind the diner and thought someone might have been up to no good so she went to check. That’s when she saw Wren digging around the rubbish bins for his dinner. He would normally wait until after closing so he would never get caught but he had to skip lunch that day and
As Cassidy opened her eyes to a blinding sun, she was disrupted by Noah reaching out a hand to help her up. After checking if everyone was ok Dylan began to question where the storm and the entire town went. There were crops and farms all around them but the man in the trench coat was nowhere to be seen. Jill was able to pick up the box but it was too late for the box was empty and she unfortunately knew what that meant but she had been working too long to be caught out now and she came here on her own free will to help everyone else so it was too late to come clean. She had no choice but to blend in and do what she could.“I see you made it here in one piece. That was quite lucky of you.&rdquo
“That is the worst game guide I have ever seen and I play a lot of games at home.” Dylan said.“The only games you play at home are music simulators.” Noah replied.“I’ll have you know that all the guides in those games are far better than him. At least they know how to do their jobs.” Dylan replied.“How do we even know being a guide is his job?” J
The group landed in some kind of swamp where they somehow ended up getting separated. Dylan and Wren were together and Jill and Noah but there was no sign of Cassidy. The swamp was covered in an eerie layer of fog greatly reducing the visibility. Meanwhile in the castle the little girl warned Charles not only of where the group was but also of the man approaching them.“Our screens don’t seem to work here. Could it be some sort of a glitch?” Noah asked.“No, this shouldn’t be possible. Someone must be controlling these thing
Logan and Cassidy had both disappeared leaving the rest with an endless array of questions but before they could ask anything they themselves disappeared and awoke in some sort of castle. It seemed that Charles had regained enough control to be able to get them out of the swamp.“You’ll be safe here for now. I’m sorry I couldn’t get you away sooner.” Charles said.“Cassidy’s gone though but you know why don’t you Jill” Wren stated. “Why did you call him Logan?”
“There is just so much wrong with your story I don’t even know where to begin.” Noah said. “How do you expect us to believe in any of this?”“How did your sister end up here if she’s a real person? That makes no sense.” Dylan asked.“Sean Callister was supposed to be the greatest mind alive before the accident but it turns out he wasn’t so smart and that wasn’t really an accident.” Wren said.
“So what’s the plan now Jill? You know more than most of us so you should take the lead.” Dylan said.Noah and Wren agreed which led to Jill pacing around the room before deciding on an answer. They needed to get Cassidy back but there wasn’t much they could do right now so as much as it pained her to say it, Jill couldn’t put Cassidy first.“The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.” Jill replied. “We will get Cassidy back but we need to know exactly how to do that before we do and right now we
They walked through what seemed like an endless jungle with Dylan leading the way as navigator. It seemed like an ordinary compass but it somehow allowed Dylan to know exactly where to go. They started off at a golden, sandy beach before travelling through the lush, green jungle they now found themselves in.Wren began to question what it meant to be an explorer and how some rope was supposed to allow him to keep everyone safe. Noah meanwhile, complained that he was unlucky and didn’t even get a proper role.“I’m getting the feeli
The real world was so much brighter than they remembered and there was no telling how long they had been gone. The adventure they had inside the box was perilous but it brought them closer. They became a family and now they were each ready to face their truths together. The wizards were not used to this new world that looked nothing like their island. They were also surprised to learn that they could not use magic. Jill explained that in the real world people can't use magic but they wish they could. Once she learned of the news she set up a way for them to exist. She got them identification and some money to start their lives. She told them where to go and wished them well. Jaune lost his memories in the
All Cassidy could do was sit and watch as Jill walked out of the core. She reached out her hand, desperate to grab hold of her but stopped herself. She knew she had to let her go so all she could do was clutch onto her backpack and keep it safe. The next five minutes would be the most fear she ever felt in her entire life. The countdown hit zero and the core locked itself down. Officially no way in or out and everything went dark. The core shut down and violent tremors began within. There wasn’t anything they could do but hope it would work out. Jill, before resetting everything, also made sure to destroy any external connections both from her father's hacking and her own computers.
“This is probably a bad time to ask but given everything that’s going on, are you feeling okay Jill?” Cassidy asked.“Well, I just murdered my father and watched him die a gruesome death. Then I find out the original box died with him along with the gems needed to get you out of here. Now I have to find a way to erase the damage he did to this world and get rid of all the intruders he placed here before something else goes horribly wrong. Plus, on top of all of that, if I don’t get you three out of here soon, you may never be able to leave.” Jill explained. “Is there anything else I’m missing?”
“So the guy wasn’t crazy, he was just trying to protect your mum .” Cassidy said.“That last line makes him look pretty crazy but it's hard to tell.” Noah replied. As they were discussing what to make of the diary and the new mystery man that Mary had never mentioned to Jill, they began to hear footsteps approaching. Jill walked towards the entrance of the shrine and stood firm, waiting. There were at least six armed juggernauts including the doctors that Jill and Charles knew well.
The juggernaut's realm was vast with many small cities. The area Logan was seen in was nothing more than a dock filled with boats and warehouses. It wasn’t going to be easy to find him. Jill had enough of just about everything at this point and so she did the only thing she could. To prepare for what had to be done, she took a small sample of Cassidy’s potion and used it to build a small device. It looked like nothing more than a watch but it would be able to tell them if Sean and Logan were fully merged. If they were, then Jill would finally put a stop to the monster that was once her father.
“I always thought you looked familiar but I couldn’t remember why.” Dylan said.“I have told you before that your obsession with criminals was strange.” Noah added. As everyone looked over at Noah and Dylan in confusion, Noah was quick to explain Dylan's childhood dream of tracking down criminals of all kinds. It wasn’t until his father later gave him a love of music instead that would become his new dream. Dylan has an entire bookshelf full of profiles of all kinds of criminals throughout the decades and from al
After saying this to Cassidy, Jaune stood up and just left. The other wizards also fled along with anyone who was fighting for Logan. Cassidy remained on the floor trembling as she remembered her father's words. “Even the forgotten can be remembered”. Charles warned everyone fighting on his side of a possible trap and urged them to return to their kingdoms. Everyone agreed but the CEO stayed behind.“Jill, how exactly did you get the designs for the people of this world?” Cassidy asked.“We just used all the real-life inspir
As Dylan took to taking care of Wren’s wound, all other eyes were on Jill. She told them even with data slowly taking over, this wasn’t normal. Charles ran inside his core and scanned the whole area. It was just as Jill said. Cassidy, Dylan, and Noah were all under 40% data. To be in this world it was only natural to be slowly affected by data consumption but being human kept it as a very slow takeover. Once they left the box all data would have remained inside except for Noah due to his surgery.“What did you do to me?” Wren asked, pointing towards Logan.
As Charles arrived at the edge of the core, the others were already waiting for him on the platform nearby. It was a strange feeling for Charles to be both at the beginning of the end and at the very site where Jill met her end. There was no time to dwell on things outside of his control however as there were more important things to do.“I need to focus on removing each layer of security before we get to the core itself. After that, I need to focus on bringing Jill back. Use the hover disks you got from Tech Town and stay close but keep your eyes peeled.” Charles explained.“
