After shining his shoes, Jared looked up and bemoaned, “Why are you people just standing there? Where’s my coffee?”

The corner of Claude’s lips twitched in annoyance, but even if he were chafed by the man’s attitude, he did not show. “Right. I’ll brew you one right away.”

Agatha’s patience was at its end. Irritated, she stepped out and took a stand. “Hey, Jared. Will it kill you to act a little more like a civilized gentleman than a boor? Did your parents abandon you in the woods or what?”

Jared’s expression darkened. Shooting her a glare, he snarled, “What did you say, Agatha sweetie? I didn’t hear it the first time.”

His ire was raised, alright—that much was evident from how ugly his expression had become. It was enough to deflate some of Agatha’s initial bravado, but her annoyance was still sky-high. What a self-centered, uncultured troglodyte!
