Fern stood by the door as she watched Asher leave. When she turned around to return to the house, she bumped into a warm body!

She did not know when Eugene had been standing behind her.

She took a step back and stabilized herself. “Why are you here?” Why did he sneak up on her as though he wanted to scare her?

Eugene fixed his dark and heavy gaze on her as he asked in an even tone, “Does he often go in and out of your house so casually?”

“Are you referring to Asher?” She nodded and said, “He stays next door. We can visit each other’s place any time.” There was nothing odd about this.

“Even if you’re neighbors, he’s still a man. You should be more cautious. After all, Rue still lives here. You should be more considerate to her.” There was a stern expression on Eugene’s face.

Fern frowned. She and Asher were just friends. Why did she have to avoid him?

Besides, their interactions did not affect Rue.

“You just need to care about Rue. Don’t think about other things.”
