Eugene’s sudden appearance shocked both of them. Fern’s scalp numbed when he fixed his dark and cold gaze on her. It felt like she had done something to wrong him.

“You should head over. I’ll wash these dishes.” Asher took away the bowl that she was holding.

“Thank you,” Fern said.

“It’s not the first time that I’m doing this. Why do you need to thank me?” Asher chuckled.

Why did Fern feel like he was deliberately saying such words for Eugene to hear?

Eugene did not wait for her. He had turned around and returned to Rue’s room.

Not long after, Fern walked into the room. Rue was making a Lego model of a yacht.

Perhaps it was because her father had come over to visit her, Fern felt that Rue was rather happy tonight. She was not as silent as she was in the past two days.

“Rue, why did you call me over?” she asked as she walked over.

Rue looked at her intently and asked, “Mommy, I want Daddy to stay over and accompany me tonight. Is that alright?”
