She had hoped reading would take her mind off everything, but even one of her favorite authors could not distract her from thinking about what transpired over the past few days. Her mother left her alone, deciding for once not to call out of work, and Jayden attended her classes at the local community college, leaving Laci alone for the first time since she left the hospital.
