Chapter 116Isla’s POVI watched everything unfold before my eyes. The way Dario signaled the men to stop talking immediately he noticed my eyes were on him. He ushered them inside informing me that he would be back soon.I picked up my steps walking to the car.“I can’t believe he’s hiding whatever is happening from me.” I said to Nima. “This is so annoying.”“Maybe he’s trying to protect you.”“Protect me?” I scoffed. “The fact that he’s keeping it from me makes it worse.”“Maybe he’s going to tell you about it later, he just wants to work on it first.” Nima was doing her best to assure me but it wasn’t working.I didn’t want to hear any more words from her so I blocked her out, when I was close to the car sounds of footsteps collided with my ears. I thought it was Dario, but I was made aware that it wasn’t after I heard a familiar squeal I knew so well.“Isla! You’re back!” I turned around quickly, and there was Diane running in my direction. She appeared so happy with a bright sm
Dario’s POVThe minute I stepped into the dungeon with my men behind me, I turned to look at them conveying my questions. Isla wasn’t here so it made it easier for me to talk.“So how did they escape?”I asked in a firm voice.“We don’t know. We just came to see that the locks were broken.”“Hmm.” I said softly, moving close to the cage where they were held. I scanned the place carefully searching for traces of a bridge or anything that will give me a hint of how the lock had been broken.I moved closer, my hands going over the gate and the next thing I heard was the sound of the gate swinging open. With a slow stride, I stepped into it, my eyes moved round the space hoping that I would catch hold of something, anything but there ended up being nothing.I walked out of the cage, moving to where the broken lock was—dangling at the entrance. My thumb traced the keyhole, as I scanned it carefully.“Was the door lock changed?” I asked, letting go of it.“No, your highness it wasn’t.”
Dario’s POVAfter taking one look at her, I ran towards Isla, my heart pounding with the worrisome feeling still visible within me. As each stride brought me closer to her, it doubled the uneasy feeling growing within in me.When I reached where she was , I slowed to a stop, my breath coming in ragged gasp because of my sprint.Isla's eyes widened in surprise at my sudden appearance, but before she could speak, I pulled her into my embrace, holding her tightly as if afraid she might vanish if I let go.Gently, I caressed her hair, brushing away strands that had fallen across her face during my embrace. As I pulled back slightly to look at her, I searched for signs that displayed that something had happened. I soaked in her expression trying to unravel it. It was neutral yet the uneasy filling that had dragged me out still persisted. Since I couldn’t unravel her expression I decided to question her.“Are you fine Isla?” I said with a soft voice. Isla’s gaze remained on mine before
Isla’s POVI watched as Dario dragged Brenda into my car. I didn’t expect that to happen, I thought he was going to speak to her where I could see them, but I guess I was wrong.I maintained contact with them until they were out of sight. The second that happened, series of thoughts flowed through my mind, and they were not the good ones. I attempted to stop them it was not really an attempt. It was just me waving it off, in the slightest way.The thoughts that were flowing through my mind, had overpowered my head after I slightly waved it off. I wondered what could be going on in there. Was Brenda trying to threaten Dario to go on with the wedding or was he telling her how much he wanted to proceed with the engagement ? No that couldn’t be possible he couldn’t be telling her that.He wanted nothing to do with Brenda, what if she managed to convince Dario that he should stay with her? What would become of me , and the mark?My thoughts paused as I thought about the mark. How could I
Isla’s POVMy eyes which were fixed on Dario watching him drive away, flickered in the opposite direction once I could no longer see his car.I picked up my steps, and at each step I took my eyes roamed through the premises. It felt weird to be back here, as I remembered what happened when I had left, I was transported to that moment but the minute my feet crossed the entrance of the door I was back to reality. I was so focused on balancing my latte in my hands that I was unaware of the person coming down from the staircase. It was the sounds of grunts and muffled curses that made me pull my head up.I was shocked to see Brenda, with her bags in her hands. She was dragging them down the stairs and she didn’t have a delightful look on her face.I observed as Brenda struggled with the weight of her bags. My eyes, filled with an emotions, followed Brenda's every movement.Brenda, who was unaware of my presence, continued to wrestle with the bags, her brow furrowed in concentration. I
Dario’s POVI pulled my eye lids apart, turning to the other side of the bed in a slow motion. It was partly dark outside with the morning light cutting through the sky. My eyes which were on the window landed on Isla, who was sleeping soundly.I took in her features, moving my hands forward a bit to brush it against her face. Isla was breathtaking and I realized this was how I was going to be waking up for the rest of my life. Everything was perfect, at this point of my life. Brenda was gone and Isla was where she was always meant to be—with me.There were still some matters to tend to but what mattered was us. I redrew my hands from Isla then threw the covers off my body. I dropped my feet on the ground afterwards, walking to the bathroom. The second I got to the bathroom. I splashed water on my face feeling the cool water seemed to offer me a form of ease. I didn’t even know that I needed.Immediately I was done, I reached for the face towel dangling at the corner of the door,
Isla’s POVIt was a lovely night and for the first time in a long time I woke up without any worries. Even when I turned to the other side of the bed and realized that Dario wasn’t there. I didn’t panic like I would normally do. I knew he was somewhere around the house. I pulled myself out of the sheets, walking to the corner of the room where the window stood. The early morning sky collided with my sight, it was beautiful with hues of pink and orange blending seamlessly. I was happy that the full moon had passed so I won’t have to spend time with the pack members who would be worried about my pheromones.I closed the chapter of that thought and continued to stare outside the window. The sun wasn’t in sight yet, and l saw this as the perfect opportunity to go for a jog. I changed swiftly from my comfortable nightwear into a suitable jogging outfit, ready to embrace the crisp morning air. After glancing at myself in the mirror, I headed downstairs stepping onto the quiet street
Dario’s POVI was still confused by Axel’s words, then I followed his eyes which ended up landing on Isla. My eyes widened in disbelief. The sight of her sent a surge of fury coursing through my veins.I growled inwardly, and after I gave Axel a kick on the knee I walked out of the cage and shut it. I turned to look at Isla and my anger grew. I couldn’t even mask how I felt even when I tried. I wondered how Isla had managed to find her way into this part of the mansion, alone. My look on her intensified , anI discovered she was terrified ! Axel was right I had scared her.I was knee—deep in my thoughts when I heard Kai speak up.“I think it’s better you explain this to Isla. She’s all shaken up.”“I am aware of that!” I informed him.“Then why are you just standing there, she needs you.” I pulled myself out of my thoughts. My gaze landed on her while my anger simmered, as my jaw I had unconsciously clenched, loosened. Taking a deep breath, I proceeded forward with dainty steps a
