Asher's POV

The morning light barely filtered through the thick curtains of our room, but the rumble of footsteps outside told me the day was already in full swing. I cracked open an eye and saw Axel sprawled in the bed across from me, dead to the world. For a moment, I considered going back to sleep, pretending that today wasn’t important. But that nagging reminder of what was coming crept in, Father’s guest.

The Alpha of some nearby pack was due to arrive, and Father expected us to be on our best behavior. He was to have arrived yesterday but only his councilmen and the rest of his entourage had, he would be arriving this morning with his daughters and the mere thought of it made me cringe.

Of course, that wasn't happening. At least not in the way Father envisioned.

Axel groaned and rolled over. “What time is it?”

I glanced at the clock. “Late enough that we should’ve been downstairs by now.”

“Perfect.” He smirked the devilish grin that told me he was already plotting something.

Willow's POV The sunlight streamed through the windows of the shopping mall, casting warm, golden light across the busy stores. Jason walked beside me, pushing the cart as we strolled through the aisles. His easygoing nature always put me at ease, but today, there was a slight tension in the air. Maybe it was just me. I tried to push the feeling away as we navigated through the aisles, Jason’s hand occasionally brushing against mine as we walked. We were out shopping for Daniel and Ella, who had outgrown nearly every toy in the house. Jason had been sweet enough to come with me, even though I knew he didn’t enjoy shopping all that much with someone. As we rounded the corner into the toy section, a voice called out to him from across the store."Jason!" a girl’s voice rang out, high and bright. We both turned to see a young woman, tall and pretty, with blonde curls framing her face. She waved eagerly as she made her way over to us. Something about the way she moved and the way her eye

Chapter 12Stuck in utter agony Asher's POV I sat in my room, staring out the window, lost in thought. The walls of the palace always felt like they were closing in on me, but today it was worse. I had been avoiding Father all morning, knowing full well what was coming. His disapproval always hung in the air like a storm cloud, ready to rain down on us at the slightest mistake. And today, I made a big one.A knock at the door snapped me out of my thoughts. My heart sank. I knew it was him before he even walked in. Father stepped into the room, his face twisted in anger. His eyes bore into me, filled with the kind of disappointment that had become all too familiar."Asher," he began, his voice low and dangerous, "why are you out to embarrass me?"I sighed, running a hand through my hair. I should have known he’d be furious. "Father, I didn’t mean to. I was just..." "You were just what?" he snapped, cutting me off. "You overslept, missed the meeting, and when you eventually decided t

Axel's POVAs I left my brothers behind in the room, their faces grim with resignation, I braced myself for the conversation I was about to have. My father’s summons had never meant anything good. It was always some manipulation, some scheme to bend us to his will. Today, I could feel it in the pit of my stomach, this wasn’t just about the girls waiting for us in the garden. It was something deeper, more sinister. When I reached his office, the heavy oak door creaked open. He sat at his desk, a smirk already curling at the edge of his lips as he watched me approach. He didn’t bother with pleasantries, just motioned for me to sit. His eyes were sharp, and calculating, as always."Sit down, Axel."I took a seat, leaning back in the chair and folding my arms across my chest, waiting for whatever ultimatum he was about to deliver. His smirk grew wider as he leaned forward, placing his hands on the desk."One of the girls," he began, his voice smooth but laced with control, "has already t

Asher's POV The moment Axel returned from a meeting with our father, I knew something was off. He had a look about him, a kind of tightness in his jaw, a stiffness in his movements. But instead of pressing him, I decided to wait. We were all under enough pressure as it was, and there would be time later to discuss whatever had gone down between him and our father.Throughout the day, Axel’s behavior became even more unusual. He was pretending to be charming, playing the part our father expected from him, especially with the eldest of the girls. It didn’t sit right with me. I knew my brother; he had never wanted anything to do with these women or the alliances our father was so determined to build. Axel despised being manipulated into a future, not of his own making, yet here he was, putting on a show for everyone. Something serious had happened in that conversation, and it involved more than just political matchmaking. When we finally got rid of the girls, who were pleasant enough bu

Willow's POV I glanced at the city skyline from my office window, thinking about how quickly things had shifted since partnering with Triple A Corporation. The deal had undeniably boosted my business, providing the sort of influence and connections I could have only dreamed of before. Yet, being involved with the three powerful triplet brothers who ran Triple A came with complications I hadn’t foreseen, and I didn’t want anyone else at my company to catch wind of our relationship. This was strictly business, or so I kept telling myself. The day was wearing on, and Ruby, entered my office, bringing her typical no-nonsense attitude. “Afternoon meeting with the board,” she announced, holding up a planner as if to prove that she had everything under control, just as always.“Thanks for the reminder,” I replied. “But listen, Ruby, no one here can know about the connection I have with the Triple-A owners. I don't want them to water down my hard work as evidence of having such men in my l

Chapter 16Hell Hath No FuryAsher’s POVThe phone slipped from my hand as Willow’s words echoed in my mind. A date? She had a date? Fury coursed through me like wildfire, igniting every nerve. I didn’t bother picking up the phone, I just turned and stormed out of my office, barely aware of where I was going until I found myself striding toward the training grounds, where I knew Aiden and Axel would be.There they were, standing side by side, aiming steadily as they shot arrows at the distant targets. The clang of each hit barely registered as I approached. The two of them glanced over when I got close, their expressions curious but unconcerned. That would change soon enough.“Hey,” Axel called, tossing me an extra bow. “Fancy joining us for some target practice?”“Not today,” I snapped, barely stopping myself from breaking the bow in half. “We have a problem. Willow is moving on.”My brothers’ hands froze mid-motion, their arrows poised to launch. Axel’s gaze sharpened instantly, whi

Willow's POV The room was aglow with chandeliers, crystal, and light sparkling across the expansive ballroom. I felt a little like Cinderella, stepping out of the car with Jason and Ruby, the weight of the evening buzzing through me. The dress, a deep red satin that clung to my figure and flowed around my feet was enough to make me feel glamorous, but also exposed. Jason glanced at me and muttered, “You look incredible,” before turning to offer Ruby his arm.The warmth in his gaze was genuine, and for a moment, it lingered, making me wonder if I imagined it. As quickly as it came, his expression hardened, replaced by a more professional detachment. The night was about networking, he’d reminded me, and I clung to that reminder now. I was here for work, not personal dreams or complications.“Come on,” he whispered, his voice confident as always. “You’re the CEO of Winterlock Pharmaceuticals. Tonight’s yours to own.”I squared my shoulders and tried to believe it. The lights, the laught

Asher's POV As soon as Willow stormed out of the gala, I knew our plan had worked. The mission to separate her from anyone she’d come with, to ensure she didn’t spend her evening in the arms of some overly friendly “Alpha’s son,” had been executed perfectly. Aiden, Axel, and I exchanged satisfied glances. But this wasn’t over yet. There was still one person who needed to be reminded of where the boundaries were. I spotted Benjamin at the bar. He looked mildly confused, maybe a little ruffled by the drama, but still composed. I walked up to him, letting my steps land heavier than usual as I came to a stop right in front of him.“Benjamin,” I said, keeping my tone civil, “could we have a word? Privately.”He hesitated, glancing at Aiden and Axel standing like shadows at my side, before nodding. “Sure. Follow me. You are being gentlemen now after being total assholes to me barely thirty minutes ago.” He protested but we ignored him, we had more pressing matters to address. He led us

Chapter 40Another chanceAsher's POV I stood outside the hospital ward, staring through the glass with clenched fists as I watched the doctors try once more to bring Axel back. My brother’s lifeless body lay still on the bed, three days after the doctor had told us that he was fine and recovering well. As they worked frantically, my own breath caught every time they charged the defibrillator or leaned in close to check his pulse. This was the fourth time today they’d tried to resuscitate him, but Axel’s body seemed determined to cling to unconsciousness, defying every attempt they made to pull him back. His wounds had started healing, thanks to his natural resilience, but the fact that he hadn’t yet regained consciousness gnawed at me with an almost unbearable weight. One of the doctors caught my eye as he stepped out of the ward, his expression unreadable but serious. I met him in the hallway, every instinct in me bracing for whatever he might say.“Asher,” he began, the hesitati

Chapter 39Heralding Good newsWillow's POV The night stretched long and merciless, dragging me through a haze of worry and restlessness. My children’s faces haunted me, shadows of their smiles flickering in the corners of my mind. Every thought was a question, where were they? Were they safe? My heart thudded heavily, filling the silence as I lay in bed, tangled in sheets that only reminded me of their absence.I must have fallen asleep eventually, but only barely, because it felt like mere seconds before Ruby was at my bedside, gently shaking my shoulder. The soft light of dawn cast a glow across her concerned face.“Willow, wake up,” she whispered, though urgency tinged her voice. “Some of the kids… they’ve been found. They’re on their way back to the palace right now.”Her words sliced through the remnants of sleep, and I bolted upright, gripping her arm. “They’re safe? Are you sure?” The relief bubbling up was almost painful, like a dam about to burst after holding back too much

Chapter 38The interceptionAsher's POV The sky hung heavy, the early morning light muted under a thick veil of clouds, as though even nature was holding its breath. My heart raced as I stood in our quiet, darkened headquarters, the silence pressing down on me as I prepared myself mentally for what was coming. Today was the day. After all our planning, we were finally going to intercept the men trafficking kids for those vile experiments, and I could feel a sense of dread clawing at me. Something deep inside warned me that this was only the beginning, that today’s mission would open doors to things we might not be prepared to face.I felt a hand on my shoulder, jolting me out of my thoughts. It was Axel as usual, he was already geared up and armed with that steely determination I’d come to rely on. “You ready?” he asked, a slight smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth as if we were gearing up for another raid, not one that could expose our father’s dark secrets.I nodded, trying t

Chapter 37Weather of DoomAxel's POVThe moment I stepped into the hallway, I sensed it. A heaviness clung to the air, thick and suffocating, far heavier than the storm rumbling outside. My chest was burning.I caught a glimpse of my father’s retreating back, his figure disappearing around the corner, leaving behind a trail of silence that only blood could cause. The man lying on the floor was still, his life gone, and yet I knew him immediately, he was the one I’d been following, the one who had met with my informant in secret just last week. I only knew this because I had another of my men take a picture for me. My jaw clenched. I knew what it meant to cross my father, knew what line that poor man had stepped over. And yet, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my father had acted quickly, too quickly, as if trying to erase some thread that might unravel if pulled too hard. A chill swept down my spine; it wasn’t fear exactly, but more a grim realization of what lay beneath his lates

Chapter 36A way in Asher's POVI tossed my bag onto the bed, the contents spilling out in a haphazard mess that mirrored the chaos in my mind. Tomorrow, I’d be heading to Willow’s pack, something I’d put off for as long as I could which in an actual sense was barely five days but it already felt like a million years. I could feel the tension of this impending journey tightening around my chest, and I knew it was time. No more avoiding. We needed answers, and Willow was the key to getting those answers. I was midway through folding a shirt when Axel strolled into my room, hands in his pockets, his usual smirk absent. “So, you're really going tomorrow?” he asked, his voice low.I looked up, meeting his gaze. “Yeah. It’s time.” My voice sounded steadier than I felt.Axel glanced down, his expression almost hesitant. “You know, we… I wish I could go with you. Chapter 35A Light in the Tunnel Willow's POV After Benjamin had run inside after his mate, I felt hollow, like I’d been left out in the cold. My heart was pounding from the despair and rage that boiled within me. He didn’t even care, my children were missing, and he brushed me off like I was nothing. I swallowed hard and turned to leave, but as I did, I came face to face with the Alpha himself, Benjamin’s father. The Alpha’s gaze was penetrating but calm, a contrast to my chaotic emotions. His expression softened slightly as he looked at me, and with a brief nod, he gestured toward the palace."Come with me," he said, his voice steady and composed.I hesitated, stunned by his sudden appearance and unsure of his intentions. I hadn’t come here expecting to meet him, let alone speak to him. I’d only wanted help finding my children. But something in his gaze made me feel that maybe, just maybe, he could offer that help. Brushing away my tears, I nodded and followed him inside. We walke

My heart pounded as I stared at the empty grounds as if my pleas might somehow conjure their small, familiar faces from the shadows. But no one came. The few people I’d managed to find in the nearby houses and shops had only offered vague sympathy before turning away. I realized then, with a sinking feeling, that no one was going to help me. But now, the fear that she was moving on without me gnawed at my insides like a relentless beast.I ran a hand through my hair, feeling the weight of my worries. I needed to know what was happening with her, but the last thing I wanted was to disrupt the fragile peace we had managed to carve out in our lives.
