Chapter 36

A way in

Asher's POV

I tossed my bag onto the bed, the contents spilling out in a haphazard mess that mirrored the chaos in my mind. Tomorrow, I’d be heading to Willow’s pack, something I’d put off for as long as I could which in an actual sense was barely five days but it already felt like a million years. I could feel the tension of this impending journey tightening around my chest, and I knew it was time. No more avoiding. We needed answers, and Willow was the key to getting those answers.

I was midway through folding a shirt when Axel strolled into my room, hands in his pockets, his usual smirk absent. “So, you're really going tomorrow?” he asked, his voice low.

I looked up, meeting his gaze. “Yeah. It’s time.” My voice sounded steadier than I felt.

Axel glanced down, his expression almost hesitant. “You know, we… I wish I could go with you. I don’t like the idea of you facing this alone.”

I placed a hand on his shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “We’ve already

Chapter 37Weather of DoomAxel's POVThe moment I stepped into the hallway, I sensed it. A heaviness clung to the air, thick and suffocating, far heavier than the storm rumbling outside. My chest was burning.I caught a glimpse of my father’s retreating back, his figure disappearing around the corner, leaving behind a trail of silence that only blood could cause. The man lying on the floor was still, his life gone, and yet I knew him immediately, he was the one I’d been following, the one who had met with my informant in secret just last week. I only knew this because I had another of my men take a picture for me. My jaw clenched. I knew what it meant to cross my father, knew what line that poor man had stepped over. And yet, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my father had acted quickly, too quickly, as if trying to erase some thread that might unravel if pulled too hard. A chill swept down my spine; it wasn’t fear exactly, but more a grim realization of what lay beneath his lates

Chapter 38The interceptionAsher's POV The sky hung heavy, the early morning light muted under a thick veil of clouds, as though even nature was holding its breath. My heart raced as I stood in our quiet, darkened headquarters, the silence pressing down on me as I prepared myself mentally for what was coming. Today was the day. After all our planning, we were finally going to intercept the men trafficking kids for those vile experiments, and I could feel a sense of dread clawing at me. Something deep inside warned me that this was only the beginning, that today’s mission would open doors to things we might not be prepared to face.I felt a hand on my shoulder, jolting me out of my thoughts. It was Axel as usual, he was already geared up and armed with that steely determination I’d come to rely on. “You ready?” he asked, a slight smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth as if we were gearing up for another raid, not one that could expose our father’s dark secrets.I nodded, trying t

Chapter 39Heralding Good newsWillow's POV The night stretched long and merciless, dragging me through a haze of worry and restlessness. My children’s faces haunted me, shadows of their smiles flickering in the corners of my mind. Every thought was a question, where were they? Were they safe? My heart thudded heavily, filling the silence as I lay in bed, tangled in sheets that only reminded me of their absence.I must have fallen asleep eventually, but only barely, because it felt like mere seconds before Ruby was at my bedside, gently shaking my shoulder. The soft light of dawn cast a glow across her concerned face.“Willow, wake up,” she whispered, though urgency tinged her voice. “Some of the kids… they’ve been found. They’re on their way back to the palace right now.”Her words sliced through the remnants of sleep, and I bolted upright, gripping her arm. “They’re safe? Are you sure?” The relief bubbling up was almost painful, like a dam about to burst after holding back too much

Chapter 40Another chanceAsher's POV I stood outside the hospital ward, staring through the glass with clenched fists as I watched the doctors try once more to bring Axel back. My brother’s lifeless body lay still on the bed, three days after the doctor had told us that he was fine and recovering well. As they worked frantically, my own breath caught every time they charged the defibrillator or leaned in close to check his pulse. This was the fourth time today they’d tried to resuscitate him, but Axel’s body seemed determined to cling to unconsciousness, defying every attempt they made to pull him back. His wounds had started healing, thanks to his natural resilience, but the fact that he hadn’t yet regained consciousness gnawed at me with an almost unbearable weight. One of the doctors caught my eye as he stepped out of the ward, his expression unreadable but serious. I met him in the hallway, every instinct in me bracing for whatever he might say.“Asher,” he began, the hesitati

Axel's POVThe hum of hospital machines and the sterile smell of antiseptic had faded into the background, but I could still feel the tension in the air as we left. My body was healing, but something was gnawing at me, something deeper than the bullet wound or the ache that lingered. It was the tension in Asher, the way he hadn’t relaxed even when the doctor gave me the all-clear. When he thought no one was watching, I could see it in the lines etched deep around his eyes. The car ride back was quiet. Asher was sitting beside me, and Aiden was up front, focusing on the road, his usual chatter replaced by a heavy silence. I couldn’t ignore the feeling that something wasn’t right.“Asher,” I said quietly when I couldn’t stand it any longer. “What’s going on?”He didn’t look at me, just stared out the window, jaw clenched. “Nothing, Axel. You need to focus on resting and getting back to full health.”I didn’t buy it, not for a second. “Asher, don’t give me that. I know you. You’re tense

Chapter 42Back to the first step Willow's POV I leaned back in my office chair, watching as the late morning sun streamed through the windows, casting streaks of light across the paperwork scattered on my desk. After all, I had recently hired a live-in nanny, Lina, to help take care of the kids, which allowed me to catch my breath and actually focus on work.My phone buzzed, and I glanced at the notification. It was a text from Ruby.Ruby: "Heading up to your office. Got something for you."I rolled my eyes, smiling. Ruby was always coming in with one surprise or another. True to her word, just minutes later, she appeared in my doorway, her familiar expression of “we’re about to discuss something you’re not going to like” already on her face.“Morning, Ruby,” I greeted, stacking the last of the files on my desk. “What’s this ‘something’ you have for me?”“Good morning to you, too, boss,” she replied, smirking. “So, you’re scheduled for brunch today. Thought you’d want the heads-up.

I’d been coughing it up for days now, and with each violent hack, I knew, knew that I was running out of time. The antidote stopped working. Asher and Aiden had done everything they could to save me, even after I begged them not to. But there was no more hope left. The blood kept coming, a dark and gruesome reminder of what had been done to me. The poison was winning. And I, helpless, was fading.I heard the faint sound of Aiden’s footsteps outside the door as he paced back and forth. Asher, too, was here, his quiet desperation pushing him to every possible corner in the room, as if, looking for something or anything at all that could help. But there was no help left. No antidote. No Dr. Maverick. The man had disappeared without a trace several days ago, and the search had turned up nothing. Without a doubt, I knew that I was already a lost ca

The moment we had rushed Axel to the hospital, barely conscious and coughing blood, I’d caught sight of our father’s face in the hallway. And his expression… it was empty, almost dismissive as if Axel’s condition was merely a mild inconvenience.I couldn’t take it any longer. After we had laid Axel in the hospital bed, with doctors bustling around him, trying their best but clearly uncertain of any solution, I’d gone straight to confront our father. Chapter 70OverreactionAsher's POVI paced the floor, checking my watch for what felt like the hundredth time. It was past the time Willow was supposed to have arrived. The evening air outside had grown cooler, and the shadows in the room seemed to stretch farther as if reflecting the tension gnawing at my insides. Willow should have been here by now. We had planned for her to get picked up by mid-day but it was almost dusk and there was still no word from her.Axel had already tried calling her more times than I cared to count, his face growing darker with each unanswered ring. We even called the hotel, only to be told that she wasn’t picking up her room phone either. A knot formed in my stomach. What was going on? "She’ll turn up," Aiden said, trying to reassure us, though the uncertainty in his voice betrayed him. Axel’s jaw tightened. “I don’t know, Aiden. I feel like she might have left. Everything she came here to do is done, she’s helped me recover, helped you get back, an

Chapter 69Ended RealitiesWillow's POVThe ride back to my hotel felt like an eternity. The world outside was a blur of lights and shadows as the car sped through the city streets, but all I could focus on was the whirlwind of emotions churning inside me. I had barely been able to think straight since I left Jason’s hotel room. His words echoed in my mind, sharp and accusing, and then, just when I thought I couldn’t take anymore, he confessed that he loved me. Love. The word seemed so out of place, so foreign coming from him. My heart ached at the thought of it, not because I wanted to return those feelings but because of the way he had said it like it was a plea, a desperate cry for me to see him the way he wanted me to. I couldn’t help but wonder if there was truth in some of the things Jason had said. He had called me cheap and made me feel like I had somehow been used by the triplets. There had been a part of me, a dark corner I didn’t want to acknowledge, that wondered if he

Chapter 68A Thin LineWillow's POV I stared at the phone in my hand, the weight of the decision I was about to make settling into my bones. It wasn’t that I wanted to confront him, Jason. He had been there for me, I couldn’t deny that. But sometimes, his protectiveness over me, his constant need to guard me from every little thing, felt like a chain wrapped around my heart. It was smothering. He needed to know that. I pressed the dial button, and the phone once, twice, three times before he picked up. “Willow,” Jason’s voice was flat, tired like he already knew what I was going to say. “I don’t want to talk right now.” My heart tightened. I wanted to scream at him, but I forced the words out instead, keeping my voice steady. “I’m not giving you a choice, Jason. I need you to tell me where you are.” There was a long silence on the other end. I could almost feel him weighing his options, deciding whether to comply or push me away further. I couldn’t let him. Not this time. F

Chapter 67A Romantic HorrorAxel's POVI couldn’t shake the feeling. Every minute since we returned from Willow’s hotel room, the tension had settled in my chest like a weight. My thoughts were consumed by the idea of our father. The old man, where was he? What would he do when he returned? How far had he gone in his plan? I tried to push it out of my mind, but it wasn’t easy. Asher, of course, noticed my mood shift. He always did. “You alright?” Asher asked, his voice cutting through the quiet of the living room. I had been staring into the empty space in front of me for what felt like hours. I blinked, the reality of the question pulling me back to the present. “Yeah, just… wondering what our father will do when he comes back.” His brow furrowed, and I could tell he wasn’t buying it. He knew better. I had to be careful. “You think the poison from the bullet is acting up again too?” he asked and I wondered why he thought that. I ran a hand through my hair, trying to shake

Chapter 66Proof of BondWillow's POVThe soft, golden light of afternoon seeped through the blinds, caressing my skin with a warmth that stirred me awake. My eyelids fluttered open, and as soon as they did, I knew, this wasn’t just any sleep. No, this was the kind of sleep that made everything feel distant like I had traveled somewhere far away and then returned. The best sleep I’d had in eight years. The weight of everything, the trauma, the heartbreak, the loss that had been crushing me for as long as I could remember had been lifted in that quiet, undisturbed rest. I felt light, lighter than I had in so long. There was no tension in my body, no gnawing worry. I could finally breathe. For a fleeting moment, I believed that maybe I was okay again. That everything would somehow be okay. But as the fog of sleep started to lift, the reality of my situation slammed back into my consciousness. The triplets. Asher, Axel, Aiden.I reached out instinctively, hoping to find their warmth

Chapter 65Desperate Measures Asher's POVThe first light of dawn was soft, creeping through the curtains of Willow’s hotel room. I could still hear the steady rhythm of her breathing next to me, her body tucked into the sheets as she slept soundly. I wanted to stay, to lie next to her forever, to savor the fleeting moments when the world seemed perfect when nothing outside this room mattered. But Axel’s sharp voice broke the spell.“We can’t stay, Ash. We have to go. Now.” I sat up, rubbing my eyes, but I already knew what he meant. We couldn’t risk waking her up, not after everything that had happened, not after everything we had left finished. Our time here was temporary. Willow needed rest, and we couldn’t afford to stay any longer.Axel was already moving, gathering his things and moving as quietly as he could. A small part of me wished I could stay longer, and hold Willow in my arms just a little bit more, but Axel was right. There was too much at stake, and if we stayed, we

Chapter 64Debt RepaidWillow’s POVThe pull was undeniable. It wasn’t just them; I felt it too. A simmering heat, an ache that had lingered for years, now amplified in the small hospital room. The triplets tried to hide it, masking their desperation under layers of stoicism, but I saw the truth. Their wolves were battling for control, and I could feel their struggle like it was my own. It wasn’t just the bond, it was what they had done. They had saved my children without even knowing they existed. For that, they deserved something, even if it was temporary. My body trembled as I came to a decision. I had to just not make it look like this was also coming from a place of need for me, it made more sense for me to justify it as that than as anything else. “I need to step out for a moment,” I said, my voice softer than I intended. The three of them looked at me, their eyes glowing faintly, as though their wolves didn’t want me to leave. I reassured them with a small smile before ste

Aiden wasn’t far behind; he leaned against the wall, his glowing eyes betraying his own internal struggle. “What’s going on?” Willow’s voice cut through the haze. The sound hit me like lightning, reigniting the fire that was already roaring inside. My wolf clawed at the walls of my control, desperate, relentless. Every word she spoke only made it worse. Aiden’s voice was low and rough, his struggle evident. “We feel… like letting them take over. Letting our wolves do what they want.” Her brows furrowed in confusion. “What do they want?” Asher’s growl rumbled through the room. “You,” he said, his voice raw and guttural. “They want you. Chapter 62Bonded and Broken Willow’s POVI didn’t know what had drawn me back to Axel’s hospital room at that exact moment. Maybe it was the lingering tension in the air or the unsettling energy that had been nagging at me all day. Aiden had texted again, asking me to come by, but his message had been more cryptic this time around and not as always. It was almost like something had happened and he now just wanted to tell me. Even though I knew the men felt disappointed with what Kingston could come up with after accusing their father of so many terrible things. Jason trailed behind me, his footsteps heavy against the polished floor as we walked down the corridor. I could feel his presence like a protective shadow, and while I appreciated his support, I wasn’t sure how much of it was necessary or welcome today. Then I heard it. “Asher?” Jason’s voice was puzzled, but I barely registered it. My ears buzzed, and my heart stuttered in my chest. That voice. I hadn’t heard it in t
