LYRA VALERIA.
Alpha Viking came as my guardian angel and saved me from the pains and torments of this world.
The day he gave me his hands to take, I had no idea how much of a change taking his hand that day would bring to me.
After his men chased me down and accused me of stealing their food, Alpha Viking, the Alpha of a thriving and fearful pack known as the Viking pack stepped forward and saw through me. And saved me.
Viking was an old man, with graying hair. He took me in and I don't know what he saw in me that day but he believed in me.
"You are going to be the greatest woman, Lyra," he said to me one day in her s throne room "and your sons, they are going to be the greatest warriors ever."
Alpha Viking had lost his wife and only son to a war with pegans ten years ago. This has made him become ro ruthless and merciless. But he said when he saw me and my sons, something in him changed that day.
Viking took me in like I was the daughter he never heard, and my sons like his grandsons.
I learned to fight with his many men. And soon, I started going on boats with him to discover what Viking called "freedom."
A promised land that's better than the North, he'd say.
But unfortunately, ten years later, Viking fell ill and on his sick bed, he asked to be taken to the throne room as he had announcements to make.
On the throne, I could see how his crown struggled to fit his head, how his eyes struggled to stay open as he scanned the faces surrounding him.
Alpha Viking May have been a ruthless man but he was loved nonetheless by his people.
Because he had a way of ruling his people even when they feared him. He was their savior as he was mine.
"As you all know, my time is here," he started with a trembling voice "and it is tradition that as the eerl and Alpha of this great nation, I pass on my position to someone else."
My heart hammered ony chest as he says so. Would his demise cause some kind of rebellion? I am still an outcast after all and it is not doubt some of these men here still don't accept me as one of them even after ten years.
He puts his hands out towards Nolan and Kieran who stood aside watching. They walk to him and he takes their hands before looking directly at me.
"It has been an honor having a woman like you fighting my battles with me, Lyra," he said and I give him a small smile "and with the power bestowed on me, I hereby make Lyra Valeria the next eerl and Alpha of the Vikings!"
My heart stopped for a second. What? Why did he not tell me his plans before? I feel a bell ringing in my ears as all eyes turns to me.
Then the room erupted in a loud cheers. Before I knew it, I'm being carried up to the throne.
Standing in front of Viking, I beamed a smile and whisper "thank you, Alpha."
As I watched the crowd cheering me on that evening as I addressed the entire city as the new Alpha, I wondered how I'd come this far to become an Alpha and leader for a nation as vast as this one, how I'd been casted out by my own mate, only to end up as the Alpha of a group like this.
That night, Alpha Viking died.
SEVEN YEARS LATER.
The trampoline covering the tent's exit split open and Cleo, one of my men walks in, urgency in every step he took till he reached me.
"Alpha!" He calls with a quick bow of his head before looking back at me "you need to see this."
I stand up and follow him out without question.
It has been two days since we arrived at the northern border, waiting on the rival pack claiming a territory that clearly belonged to the late Alpha Viking. His enemies thought his demise would be the end of them, so they could gawk on what belonged to him when he was alive but they thought wrong.
It's snowy and extremely cold, so I could understand why our opponent hasn't arrived since yesterday to either make a truce or start a war.
At the middle of the camp, I noticed my men standing around something. The way paves as I arrive, revealing someone collapsed on the ground. I close in to see it was a young boy, a little bit older than my sons, an arrow through his chest, his dirty clothes soaked with blood.
"Why are you all just standing there?! Help him!" I scream, attempting to turn around but to my surprise, the boy grabbed my arm, holding me back.
"Please..." He stammered "you need to save her..... you can't let them take her...." His hand is pointing forward.
"Who attacked you and where is your pack?" I ask him.
He tries to speak but blood kept splurting out of his mouth so I moved closer to hear me properly.
"Come on men! We need to be somewhere right now!" I tell my men once I've gotten the needed information from him and my men and I set course immediately.
A few seconds later, we came across a burning camp filled with what I presume to be rogues scattering through, slaughtering men like they were chickens and goats.
I felt infuriated and threw my sword from where I stood onto the chest of the man attempting to slaughter a woman.
This forces the rest of the men to a stop. And they foolishly charged at us on seeing us.
While my men fought them, I searched the tents to find the pregnant woman that the little boy had asked me to save, praying to the gods that I'm not too late.
But I was too late. When I got into the tent, I came across a man walking out, the young woman's bloodied body laying on the ground behind him.
Furiously, I slash his neck with my sword before running to the woman's aid.
Her beautiful green eyes opens to see me and she smiles lightly "please, save my baby." She managed to say before her eyes shut close.
Without wasting a moment, I opened her up and saved her child.
Pulling the robe over the child, I hurry back out.
"Is that everyone?" I ask Cleo once I reached outside and he nodded.
The few remaining people were saved and kept on the side.
Just then, we hear horses in the distance and I remained behind my men.
They come to a stop, and a man leading them jumps off his horse.
"Surrender, now!" He roared at us, like we were the enemy. I didn't know if I should blame his ignorance or not?
Did he think we killed these people? Are they his men?
Giving the child to one of my men, I walked out to him. Surprisingly, he's awfully handsome, and strong, and angry, and...... hurt.
"Is that a way to say thank you?" I ask him, then add "you're welcome."
"What did you do?!" He's breathing uncontrollably as he points his sword at my chest. And I finally understood his rage. These people were his people.
"We saved your people?" I reply him harshly "you came too late. Your little boy came across my camp and cried for help!"
His hand instantly goes limp and his sword drops to the ground. He looked to be trying to take this all in.
I walk back and take the baby from my man, walked back and presented her to him. He didn't seem to believe his eyes at first when he saw the baby. As if a new found pain hit him. His mouth opened a few times but he didn't seem to have the right words.
"Where...." He gingerly runs a hand through his hair "where's her mother?"
His voice is broken as his lips quavered. And suddenly, it all made sense to me.
"I'm sorry," I tell him sympathetically "she asked me to save her daughter."
His eyes quickly changes to a bright red as pain stretched through it. He carefully accepts the baby into his arms and as if she recognized his arm, she instantly started crying.
"Come on, " I say to my men as I walked back to them and climbed my horse.
"Thank you." His voice calls after me, just before I started my horse, forcing me into a pause.
I turn slightly back to watch him from underneath my hair. And just by merely looking at him, seeing the pain written in his beautiful blue eyes, I wondered what kind of things he has been through, what kinds of things he has seen.
I nodded without a word, and turned away. I pat my horse and it started walking, my men following behind.
"What's your name?" He calls after me again.
As if I'd been waiting for him to ask, I quickly bring my horse to a stop, turning around once again to see him properly this time.
"Lyra." I tell him before starting my horse and taking off.
I wish I'd just walked away and never told him my name. Because that small gesture would be the beginning of the biggest ruin of his life.
And mine.
THANE.
"As the acting Alpha, while my brother is off to war, I say that we nuke our enemies territory and strike first." I say to the silent room.
Everyone looked blankly at me like I had suddenly grown two heads.
"Are you out of your mind, Thane?" Rogan finally speaks, disappointment in his voice.
"I'm sorry, Rogan, if you had a better plan I'd like to hear it." I tell him furiously. I am done sitting here and having to listen to these old men who knows nothing about this days wars.
I know they all hated that I'm telling them what to do.
My older brother, Casper was the Alpha but after going off to fight three weeks ago, he put me in charge. Unknown to us all, the Border rogues would attack the city three nights ago.
I have gone and met with their leader yesterday and it hadn't gone as planned. They have refused to surrender their weapons so their lives will be spared. Instead, they demanded we surrender part of our lands to them.
They are very much in number. They're like zombies inflicting plague on to our lands.
Only I knew what I saw after meeting with them yesterday and these old men wouldn't allow me play this my way? Screw their old asses.
"The Luna is arriving tomorrow, Thane," Rogan says "and she's already on the roads for the past two days. She is with child for goodness sake. Are we supposed to risk her life by starting a fight today?! She is with child!"
"I care about the Luna's life, Rogan, as well as the baby growing inside her. I believe we all are aware of the reason why she is on her way here right now as we speak......."
"That is besides the point, Thane," Stephan cuts me off "the truth remains that starting this war, without your brother's consent will only lead to ruin!"
"My brother is at the south, fighting! Am I supposed to just sit passively and do nothing to help his people? Our people? I have made my choice and that is final. Later today at dusk, we attack."
That said, I walk out of the conference room.
On getting out, one of the guards nearly bumped into me as he ran.
"Thane...." He's breathing harshly.
"What is the problem?" I ask him with gritted teeth, feeling strangely about whatever he is going to tell me.
"It's the Luna......" He says breathlessly "she has been sighted. She isn't the only one sighted."
The enemies.
With gritted teeth, I complete for him "rogues."
"Get the horses ready," I say as I turn back towards my room to get ready.
As we rode through the cold morning, my heart pondered in my chest as I thought of what would happen if I was a minute late.
If something happened to Marlia, I would never forgive myself.
When I walked into that tent with her baby in my arms and saw her lifeless body laying on the ground, I realized I would never be able to forgive myself even if I tried.
And this only meant one thing: the war I tried to much to keep from happening has just started.
And when I walked back out of the tent, it was her face that I was seeing.
That woman.
Lyra.
LYRA. As we head back towards our camp, we heard an estranged sound of a horse running full speed. Cleo puts a hand up for us to stop and we pull out horses into a quick stop. We go into silence, my guards unsheeting their swords, just to be ready should in case the need to fight arises. The sound of horses gets heavier and closer. I listened and pick up that horse sound. I knew instantly who it was. "Put your weapons down." I tell them. Cleo turns a worried gaze at me, before himself lowered his sword last. Just then, the horse comes into view and as I'd expected, One of my men back at the camp, Dion is mounted on top of it, furiously riding it. He comes to a pull halt at the sight of us. He jumps off his horse, like a man who had seen a ghost and bows his head towards me. "My lady," he calls, urgency in his every word "The Northeners has arrived. They will reach our camp soon." My brows furrow at this information. After two days, they finally decid
THANE.I walked up and down the length of the room that I was ordered to wait in with agitation in my heart. What if she refuses? Or worse. What if she sees me as a threat and murders me right here? My mind conjured up different possible ways by which this could go all wrong but a nagging intuition whispered that she wouldn’t hurt me. Maybe it was the short fleeting glance we shared last night. A glance that seems to speak volumes of word even though we didn’t utter any.I don’t know what it is, but from the moment she whispered her name to me, I knew I wanted to see her again. I feel drawn to her in an unexplainable way. Formerly, I’m here to solitude for her expertise and help, in defeating our enemy as I hear we share common grief with them but I couldn’t deny the spark of curiosity that drove me to want to see her again. An approaching footsteps made me jolt in my movement across the room as I stood at alert. Soon her face appears as she enters the room wi
LYRA. The war was over and we won! The last of the northerners that couldn’t escape were captured and taken as prisoners. As I stood in the silence assessing the aftermath of the battle, the smell of blood hung in the air,and the chaos from hours ago was evident. I looked up and in the dim light emanating from the moon and saw Thane walking towards me. He looked a bit disheveled from earlier this morning but so does all of us. Thane’s contribution in the fight has helped us win the war and as much as I didn’t want to admit it, he is a remarkable young man. His contribution to our victory was undeniable and I couldn’t ignore the spark of admiration that had flared in me.“Are you alright?” He asked with concern gesturing to my wounded arm as soon as he came up close.“It’s fine,” I replied giving the wounded arm a short glance. A straight cut running across my left arm. It didn’t seem so deep but I knew it needed treating. “I could help you get it cleaned up,”
THANE. I was forced to perform a small burial for Marlia as is accustomed to our tribal norms. With pain in my heart, I lit the pyre of wood that her body was laid on with a touch in the presence of some of my clan members. The scent of burning wood and smoke filled the air and I felt a pang of sorrow as I watched her body burn. Her child has been handed to one of the nursing mother’s to care for and nurture. It was the best I could do for my brother while awaiting his arrival. The ravens I have sent to him on different occasions never returned and there has been no way to communicate with him.I know nothing of his welfare or how he was doing regarding the war he went off to fight. The god’s be good, he is still alive.Rogan fell in step with me as we moved away from the crowd.“There is report from the guards at the forefront. The Vikings army have arrived.”“Ah! Some good news,” I proclaimed with delight.“We should meet them and offer our warm welcome then.”Rogan grunted disp
LYRA.Sounds of drumming and victory chants of warriors filled the air making it electric.I smiled with pride as I watch my men jubilate. This is yet another cause to celebrate. We won the war with Thane’s troupe against the beastly Border rogues. My joy new no bound as I danced with them.I’m sure the Viking Alpha is looking down smiling proudly at us.There has been victory upon victory and prosperity since his death. As much as I didn’t want to sound pompous, I knew a large part of why was my excellent leadership skills. Thinking about my life and how I got here made me somewhat emotional. From my humble beginning to becoming the leader of a clan as large as the Vikings.I raised my hand and there was instant decorum from the crowd. It was time to address them.“My brothers, my wolf warriors,” I began. My voice sounded loud across the crowd. “We celebrate yet another victory tonight. Our strength, unity and loyalty have been tested and proven true. It is known all across that
Chapter 9Alpha Casper The biting wind slapped us hard on the face stinging our skin as we surged up on the hill that has now turned white from snow. The snow covered slope was treacherous and I could feel the icy ground threatening to send me tumbling at any moment.Needless to say it was very slippery and extremely difficult to get to the top of the hill.At some point, Kane suggested that we ignore the quest and find another way around it but I refused. This was the best way to get sight of the other side and see if the enemies camp is visible. The wind howled around us and with a quick glance at Kane, I could see the reluctance and dread written all over his face. His weakness irks me and at the moment I wondered why I made him the second in command to my army. The role befits a courageous and brave man that could stand in the face of danger and not bat an eyelid, not this nipwit that has got no balls.Ignoring him, I reached up with one hand and grabbed a shootout of the rock an
Chapter 10LYRA.After meeting with the high septon, I have been beside myself with an undiagnosed mood disorder. His plan for the resolution of conflict between our clan and the Dark Harem clan is absurd.Offering our land in the north to them and having me wed the son of the old Alpha is a completely ridiculous idea.A proposal, that we’re not even sure if the leader of the Dark Harem clan would accept.“It would be a great factor in strengthening our bond if they do agree to it,” he had said.I made him aware that I would never marry the Alpha’s son.The subject of who I’m supposed to marry is not his judgement to make.Making peace with the Dark Harem’s clan isn’t going to be a day’s job. They have to be bought gently and with patience, a virtue that I’m now doubtful of possessing. The toughness I’ve had to develop over the past years have overshadowed my soft part and I don’t know how I’m supposed to just awaken it in me again.I looked at the new outfit that was led down for me
THANE.The new moon shone brightly in the sky illuminating the night. It was like one of those nights where I’d just walk around or find a quiet place to perch just to admire the beauty of the night.A gentle breeze blew from across the horizon making the night as cold as ever. The blood pressure that comes with been a werewolf makes it hard to ever get cold but I enjoyed the warmth that came with it.Lyra and I walked slowly towards the camp. The crowds having dissipated made our stroll path desolated. From her hesitation it was obvious she still had something to say and I curse myself for my sudden muteness.I was frantically fighting with myself in my head to say something right, but nothing was forthcoming.Offering my arms to her as a gentleman’s gesture isn’t at all as simple an act as I thought it would be.Having her in such very close proximity has awakened the nervousness in me.I could perceive the scent of sweet cinnamon oil from her hair and even though I tried to keep my
Chapter 51Lyra.After the refreshing bath, I was led to a lavish dressing room with an array of female dress in a large wooden closet.I felt obliged to ask the servant girl if this was predesigned but decided against it.I chose a simple yet elegant cashmere dress with delicate rose patterns on the bust area.I particularly loved how soft the material felt on my skin. The young lady offered to style my hair, but I politely refused.I’d pretty much prefer to maintain my independence.Despite being the Alpha of a clan, I never allow myself get used to servants attending to my personal matters. After brushing my hair, and richly applying a hair oil on it, I packed it in a ponytail which was my basic style in my little effort to look elegant.I stared at my reflection on the mirror and felt like I looked pretty. Not something that happened quite often. The dress was a distinct contrast to the gloomy war outfit I usually wore. When Thane saw me, he didn’t hide the admiration in his face.
Chapter 50Lyra.Thane stood up and undid his pants. He tugged them and his inner shorts down exposing his throbbing manhood. He grabbed my legs and lifted one of them up over his hip, giving him enough of an angle to fuck me while standing up.I moaned wildly as I felt his rod penetrate me for the first time. His cock throbbed violently as he pumped into me.My eyes rolled back in my head as he kissed my lips passionately again, sucking on my tongue. His wandering hands found my nipples and he squeezed them.I felt a painful sensation surging through me like an electric shock.I put my hands back against a wall as he continued to ram me, sending shock waves up my spine with each thrust.I could feel his rod milking by my tight womanhood.Thane’s moan sounded like music to my ears.“I feel like I’m going to cum,” he whispered in my ear.“Wait!” I exclaimed. He stopped thrusting and pulled out.I got down on my knees and started stroking his shaft aggressively.I began by sucking on th
Chapter 49Thane.Ozark was finally defeated and I couldn’t be any happier.Lyra told me a part of the reason they were victorious was because of Elara the witch.“Poor girl, she was faced with the fate of killing her own sister,” Lyra remarked.“What happened to Ozark in the end?” I asked.“He’s dead, killed by my own sword.”“So who rules the tribe now?” I questioned.“The former Alpha had a son that was banished from the land.Majority of the villagers accepted that he be their new leader, so he was named the new Alpha.”Lyra leaned closer, her bosom pressing against my chest.“And I hear you have been so victorious here, the villagers continue to sing your name,” she said in an almost whisper, a half smile spreading across her face.“Well, it wasn’t just my glory.I have my warriors to thank for that.”“Been humble now, aren’t we?”Her soft smile became more prominent.“Alpha Thane,” she whispered in a soft seductive voice.I chuckled. My lips wandered over her jaw, and down her t
Chapter 48Thane.The knife fell from Lisa’s hand clattering to the ground and breaking the silence in the room.Thorfin quickly dashed and picked the knife from the floor.Lisa burst into tears. She cried profusely, muttering incoherent words to herself.I went closer and gently took the baby from her.She showed no resistance.I took a glance at her and despite her cantankerous attitude, felt pity for her.She was mourning her lost love.Kane took hold of her and gently dragged her towards the door. She’ll need to cool down in isolation for the main time. The child in my arms had quieted down and his almond green little round eyes gazed at me curiously. He was indeed a tiny adorable thing, and I couldn’t help but feel a surge of paternal affection towards him.I gently rocked him forth and back trying to sooth any more fears he had picked up from our outburst. The wet nurse soon approached me with a smile.“Alpha Thane, shall I take the young master from you, I’ll make sure he is we
Chapter 47Thane.Moment after the meeting with the council members, Kane and Thorfin came to me with a distressed news.“She’s a bag of trouble, I think she should be locked up before she causes any more trouble,” said Kane with a low and urgent tone as we stepped out of my chambers. The air outside was cold and crisp. The evening breeze blew softly from the eastern horizon spreading warmth across the environment. The setting sun cast a pale yellow glow adding to the aesthetic of the evening. As we walked, I romanticized over the weather, thinking of Lyra.“Lisa has gone out of control, I’m telling you, we need to curtail her,” I hear Kane say again, jolting me out of my reverie.“I’ll need to speak with her first, she can’t be that hard to control,” I remarked.“I’m guessing she didn’t take the news of her father been removed from his position as head of finance so well. She’s been acting out since. She killed a guard who tried to stop her from running away last night,” Thorfin adde
Chapter 46Author’s POVThe joyous chant of freedom in the Moon black clan lasted for days. They celebrated their new Alpha, Thane, and their liberation from the former tyrant Alpha Casper. As per was the custom of a victorious battle, Casper’s head was spiked up for all to see.A gruesome yet triumphant spectacle. His tongue was shot out mocking the world even in death.Thane was named the new Alpha and a celebration ensued. He was called the hero of their time.A certain kind of peace and happiness was bestowed upon the clan.Thane has always been their choice for a ruler, but no one could go against Casper. The few that did, had their heads on a spike as punishment. It made the clan members happy that karma had taken it’s course.Despite the whole celebration frenzy, Thane was worried about one thing, his mate. The outcome of the war she had embarked upon wasn’t communicated to him yet, even though he sent an emissary two days ago.The uncertainty of Lyra’s well being gnawed at him
Chapter 45Author’s POV.Casper and Thane’s gaze fixed upon each other, eyes blazing with fury.In Casper’s hands was a half-empty bottle containing a dark liquid. It was actually a potion, one that he got from Ozark’s witch, to enhance his powers. After, Casper realized he was going on a battle with his brother, he decided to patronize Ozark. The news of Ozark and his witch had spread wildly through many of the werewolf clan, most of whom were trying their best to be on his good picture.Ozark was one of them.Although he didn’t believe the potency of the potion until worse came to worse. He’d thought of taking it when Thane challenged him on a one on one duel, but the fear of embarrassing himself in front of his army didn’t let him.Thane doesn’t seem to notice the bottle on Casper’s hands as he continued to breath hard, angry breaths.“Let’s do this, without the armor and our werewolf ability,” Casper said stepping forward.Even though he could feel the invigorating effect of the p
Chapter 43.Thane.Our plan was unfolding quite well. From my vantage point at the top of the hill, I could see Casper and his army charging on, with no knowledge of the trap that awaited them. This location was the perfect spot for an ambush, and it was exactly what we needed to turn the tide in our favor. Thanks to Thorfin’s extraordinary idea.We didn’t go to the battle scene with all of our warriors. We had deliberately kept our forces divided, having some of the warriors, perched at the top of this hill with arrows and bows drawn. The others that went to battle with me have been initially informed to pretend to retreat on my command. There were two opposite hills and a narrow path along. The path itself was a clever deception, seeming to offer a route forward. But it was actually leading to a dead end, and you won’t realize it until you’re in it.They surged forward ignorantly, and I held up my hand waiting for the perfect moment to let it down for the universal sign of fire.I w
Chapter 42Author’s POVThe day for the battle between Casper and Thane finally came.It was a dull bright cloudy morning. In Thane’s settlement, he gathered his combatants. They arrived on the departing scene chanting war song and galvanizing their weapons. They were dressed in fur and leathered attire, a black mark made with paint running across their face.An unholy fervor of battle was within the air. The glints of armor, unsheathing of swords where all an indication of the battle fever that hung in the air.The smell of the fresh, damp soil mingles with the metallic tang of battle-ready gear. There was Kane, a hardened warrior shifting from soldier to soldier, and chanting more war songs to boost their morale. His rigid muscles ripple under the skin of his shirt indicating the peaks of his battle-readiness. There was also Thorfin. His stocky frame was clenched around a reinforced wooden battle-ax demonstrating that he is warmed up as well. And there were the other warriors, al
