Chapter 169

In the powder room, Renee dabbed at the wine stain on her dress with a paper towel. Wendy pulled a shopping bag from her purse and held it out to Renee. "Renee, I happened to bring an extra outfit. We're about the same size, so you can change into this for now."

Renee glanced at the Nordstrom logo on the bag and joked, "Wendy, did you win the lottery? This store doesn't sell anything under a thousand bucks."

Wendy hesitated for a moment before explaining, "I got my paycheck and wanted to treat myself. It's my first real job, after all."

"I see. But I can't wear your new clothes. I'll make do with this; I'm not the guest of honor anyway." Renee purposely pushed the bag back.

Panic flashed in Wendy's eyes as she quickly thrust the bag into Renee's arms. "Renee, we're best friends. Don't worry about it. I'll be upset if you keep refusing."

"Well... alright then. Thanks." Renee looked touched.

"Come on, don't waste time. Go change."

"Okay."
