RUBBY'S POV

Hours after I had run out of the company, I sat at a bar taking shots of hot drink, wishing everything would pass away; when my eyes caught the television, the news headline had changed- missing company's equipment after the seductive personal assistant escapes the parliament.

What! I exclaimed first I was accused of seducing Alex; now it's missing equipment?

I looked around, to be sure no one recognised me, thankfully there were not many people in the bar, quietly I stepped out and waved down a taxi.

"Where ma'am?"

"Anywhere, just go."

I don't know how long he drove, but when he got uncomfortable, he stopped.

"I can't go further ma'am," he announced.

"Uhm," I mumbled something meaningless and stepped out.

As though even fate was against me, immediately he drove off, rain poured mercilessly, each drop like a dagger against my skin.

I broke into a run with no direction in mind; my breath came in ragged gasps as I ran, my legs heavy, my heart hammering.

I could barely see

RUBBY'S POV "How the fuck do you know my name?" I asked, I was already growing impatient."I watch news Rubby," he answered casually."Oh," I replied, embarrassed that I had been curious earlier."Eat, your bath will be ready in minutes", he said, pointing to the untouched tray."Yeah," I murmured and took a bite; slowly, I ate till I was filled and ready to bathe. Then I remembered my phone; I needed it at least to let my parents know I was fine and safe."Looking for something?"I spun around to see the stranger standing at the doorway, a small smile playing on his lips."My phone," I blurted. "Where is it?"He leaned casually against the doorframe, arms crossed. "You didn’t have one when I found you."He shrugged. "Maybe you lost it in the rain, or someone picked it up. Either way, it’s gone. I’ll get you a new one," he said.I blinked. "Why?""Why not?" He fired backI narrowed my eyes, and then I whispered, "Who are you, and what do you want?"He chuckled. The video played on repeat, but my mind refused to process it. Mirabelle. Lying in a pool of her own blood. Her body sprawled out on the cold pavement near the towering building. Obviously dead.Fuck! I exclaimed again, refusing to believe what I had just seen.A shaky breath left my lips. The scene looked staged, designed to appear as a suicide. But I knew better. Someone lured her there. Someone pushed her.“Mr. Wolfe, what do you have to say about this?” One of the reporters shoved a mic in my face. “Did Mirabelle leave a note?”“Were there any signs of distress?” another asked."Do you think she killed herself because you've been flirting with that Rubby of a girl?"I barely heard them. ALEXANDER'S POV I stared at my phone, tightening my grip around it until my knuckles turned white. Who was texting me with Mirabelle's number? This was obviously murder, and whoever it is seems to be enjoying the game."Call the number," The detective ordered.I called it immediately, It rang, but there was no response. I called again, and again, yet no answer. The next message that came into my phone paralyzed me."Hey Lover boy, I also have baby Rubby."The words on the screen blurred as fear rushed through my veins. The detective, too, seemed impressed, if not scared.A cold chill ran down my spine. My heart pounded violently against my ribs as I frantically dialled the number again. Each ring felt like a lifetime, each second stretching into unbearable eternity. No answer. I tried again. Still no response."Call her again," the detective in charge instructed, his eyes dark with suspicion. "I mean Rubby."I obeyed, my fingers trembling as I redialed Rubby's number for the hundred

RUBBY'S POV It was the perfect ring. Gold, simple and not overpriced. Nolan would really like it. Tomorrow was going to be our third anniversary, and since he wasn't going to pop the question, I decided to do it myself. I mean, what could go wrong? I mean, I didn't see what was holding us back anyway. We were in love, both financially capable with very supportive parents. So everything added up. There wasn't any reason to hold off anymore. “I can't believe you're doing this,” Trisha, my best friend muttered. “Proposing to Nolan? That's crazy, girl!” “No, it's not,” I debunked immediately. “There is absolutely nothing wrong with a girl proposing to her man. We've been together for three years and I understand that Nolan is somewhat shy. Maybe he wants to do this but doesn't know how to go about it. It's Nolan after all.”“Unbelievable!” She huffed looking sulky as hell. Trish was no happy with the idea of me proposing and kept forbidding it but she had to know that nothing was goi

RUBBY'S POV The room fell into a deafening silence, Nolan’s hand freezing mid-air at the commanding presence of my newfound "fiancé." “I believe you heard me,” he said smoothly, his voice a velvet blade. “Release her. Now.”Nolan hesitated, clearly unprepared for this twist. His fingers loosened, and I pulled my arm back, rubbing the slight soreness with an exaggerated flourish. “ Ouchhhh. That hurts a lot.” I let a few tears slip and all their eyes were on me. Well, except Nolan. “And who the hell are you?” Nolan spat, his voice laced with venom, though his posture screamed insecurity. I knew it when I saw it. The man next to me smirked, his confidence radiating with a aura that was impossible to ignore. “Alexander Wolfe,” he said, extending a hand as though this was an ordinary introduction. “CEO of Wolfe Industries and new owner of Black Suits. Rubby's fiancé.”If shock could be bottled, I’d have enough to power the entire city. Alexander Wolfe? As in the billionaire mogul sp

RUBBY'S POV The private lounge was beautifully decorated with lights and some Christmas decorations were left up but not so much. Tonight was supposed to be not only my third anniversary with Nolan but also our engagement night. It was all screwed up anyways but I couldn't bring myself to cancel. Since I already had Alexander, I decided to introduce him to my friends. At least he was someone worth introducing.Cynthia was holding court at the centre, swirling her wine and directing pointed questions at everyone. Becca was lounging in her chair with an amused smirk, waiting for something dramatic to unfold. Why she was always doing that, I don't know “I love New Year,’’ she grinned. “Look at all that cheer. I'm freaking going ice skating this year! I can't wait to have your mother's turkey, too, and go crazy with all the food and resolutions.”I chuckled lightly.“Rubby,” Cynthia said with an edge of impatience, “are you seriously going to keep us in suspense? Where is this man of yo

RUBBY'S POV The crunch of snow underneath my boots seemed louder than anything as I ran after Alexander outside the restaurant and the sight froze me mid-step: Nolan, his face bloodied, was on the snow while Alexander’s guards completely surrounded him. Their fists were landing punches, their boots kicking into him over and over. From the moment Alexander left the lounge, I knew he was going to turn into a raging wreck but the sight before me felt way too real. “Stop!” I screamed, my voice cutting through the cold air as I snapped out of my daze. The guards paused, their eyes flicking toward Alexander, who stood a few feet away, unmoved. He didn’t speak, only raised a questioning brow at me.“Alexander, this has gone too far,” I said, stepping forward, my breath visible in the icy air. “Call them off.”His blue eyes pierced through me. “He deserves it. This bastard made your face hurt. He deserves this and death.”“I don’t care what he deserves!” I snapped, my voice trembling with

ALEXANDER'S POV Kevin! It made sense now; the bastard had been dating her secretly, which explains the reason he sent her the photo of me and Rubby kissing that day.I bit my teeth and turned to Trisha."You are fired, go to the company and return every company's property in your possession.""No sir, please, I....., doo... not...I'm sorry sir," Trisha’s stammering voice faded behind me as I stormed out of the hospital, my fists clenched so tightly that my nails dug into my palm.I didn’t stop, not even for a second, I had no time for her pathetic excuses and pleas. The truth was unfolding faster than I could process, and I needed answers.I swung open my car door, slid in, and hit the gas. My driver had called me twice, and I wasn't ready to return it, at least not yet.My mind pounded against my chest as I drove, Kevin, that sly bastard. I had really been a fool, a big fool.I had known Kevin to be a dickhead, but I underestimated him; he was worse than an asshole to have secretly

ALEXANDER'S POV My eyes widened in shock as I kept staring at the screen; I tightened my grip on Trisha’s phone so badly that my knuckles turned white. It wasn’t the picture of me and Rubby as I wished, it was something worse, something completely out of the box.It was Mirabelle, with another man. Whoever the man was had his arms wrapped around her and their lips were pressed together. But that wasn’t what made my stomach churn. That wasn't my headache at all; Mirabelle was free to do whatever she chose; she was no longer mine. What shook me to my bone marrow was the earrings she wore. A distinctive, customized heirloom. Pure gold, one that belonged to my mother. The same earring she had been searching for for months. What! I exclaimed, how the hell did Mirabelle get it?"Continue with the search," I said to the IT manager, "release them when you are done." With Trisha's phone still in my possession, I quickly stepped out and headed to my car, without alerting my driver.A storm of

Maybe I would run faster than the car and catch up with them, or disappear to reappear inside the car.My feet pounded against the pavement, my breath coming in ragged gasps as I kept running after the taxi, knowing quite well that it was an impossible mission."Rubby!" I shouted, desperation gripping me like a vice, but the car sped off, leaving a cloud of dust and my worst fears behind.I stopped and placed my hands on my knees while my chest heaved deeply. She was gone, I thought to myself.A cold fear settled in my gut.I had just won her a few days ago, now this! I knew already that danger was imminent, but what could I do if not wait?Whoever it was took a perfect shot, yet I couldn't shake off the feeling that Alex had something to do with it.Minutes later, I stared at my phone, my hands trembling slightly as I watched it ring. It was Alex.I hesitated at first, I wasn’t sure I wanted to hear his voice, not when I already knew what he was going to say. But still, I picked up."Rubby," he said, his voice was lower than usual, laced with something that sounded like guilt.I closed my eyes, bracing myself."What now, Alex?" I whispered, trying to keep my emotions in check."I just received a message from the International Business Regulatory Board," he said. "They’ve set up a five-man panel. They’re investigating the scandal, and…"I could hear the hesitation in his voice, the part he didn’t want to say."And?" I pushed. He kept silent for a second, then exhaled sharply."Y
