His Noxious Words

Author's Pov

Freya aimlessly entered the church the only place that she knew could provide her a little solace, whole night she writhed in fever and for a few hours she actually wished for Leo to come and apologize for the way he behaved with her but instead, her aunt also advised her to end this engagement after all he didn't want her anymore.

How can her Leo change so much? She waited for him for so long, was her patience this much worthless that she didn't get any reward in return but a vicious punishment? The only man she ever thought about in her whole life was him, she devoted her life, heart, and even her soul to him then how could he crush her like that?

He was never this cruel, her Leo loved her beyond anything but now she had started to question herself. Was it really love or just a misunderstanding that she bored in her heart? He was protective and possessive in her matter ten years ago but now to think of it he was just a teenager. The moment he started collecting the sane pieces of his mind he accepted that he wouldn't comply with this childish engagement.

Leonard hated one thing his whole life, being forced to do something he didn't want to. The moment he heard about Freya being his fiance he started imagining his life with her but when he realized that indirectly he was being forced to be with a girl who didn't even have a proper degree to match his standards he stepped back. He didn't want her.

He never wanted her, this thought solely brought another wave of pain in her heart, she let her weak body slump on her knees before the statue of Jesus. Tears weren't ready to halt even for a second, the shock and pain were too much for her to avoid or hide like she usually did.

After a few minutes, she felt a presence in front of her, raising her swollen bloodshot eyes which met with familiar jet-black ones. "E-Evan," She sobbed out not doing any effort to be strong in front of him. He was the only man who has given her enough strength to be herself in front of her.

"Princess, what happened? Why are you crying so much?" Evan blabbered in worry, gently raising his hand he held her chin wanting to see her gloomy eyes.

"You're scaring me, Freya." He mumbled when she cried even more.

"H-He said he doesn't want me, Evan, he hates me!" She let out a few hiccups as she confessed her broken pieces before the baffled lad.

"Who? Freya, what happened?" She sobbed taking a deep breath before looking at him.

"Leo," She started and with extreme difficulty, she spread the whole scenario in front of him leaving the man frozen in the spot.

Evan might have only a six-year-old friendship with Freya but he had seen her blushing, longing, and waiting for that ungrateful man for years. She never showed any kind of desperation wanting to meet him or talk to him. He was surprised after seeing such a patient devotee for the first time in his whole life. He always considered Leo the luckiest man alive but now what?

The girl had spent literally a decade waiting for that bastard who claimed to have a girlfriend now and didn't want her, why the hell he didn't end this engagement earlier? Why did his parents keep on reminding her that she belonged to him when he himself didn't want her? Are they crazy?

Having no word of consolation for her he simply wrapped his arms around her shoulder pulling her shivering and crying frame in his strong ones hugging her warmly, Evan knew no matter how much he tried to comfort her she wouldn't be able to subside the pain of her heart being broken. At least not this early.

After a few minutes of hugging her and letting her cry, he decided to break the silence, "You should end this engagement Freya," The moment those treacherous words escaped his lips she jerked back staring at him with wide stunned eyes.

"W-What?" Even though his behavior hurt her but still she didn't want to end this over-a-decade-old relationship this instant. She wanted to talk to him, tell him how much she loves him, she wanted to convince him to accept her.

She shook her head, "No, no, I will talk to him, I will try to remind him of our good days, I will tell him how much I love him." She kept on rambling only for Evan to cut her off.

"And then what? What will you do if even after your confession he rejected you again?" He inquired staring at her who once again shook her head.

"He wouldn't, we will get married, he will learn to love me and I ----" Evan rolled his eyes in irritation grabbing her arms and startling her.

"Are you crazy!? You will force a man who doesn't want to have anything with you to marry you! He rejected you, he didn't care about your engagement with him, and he had a girlfriend all along. You need to open your eyes, Freya!" She stared into his fiercest gaze

"He does not love you," He spat the venomous truth with slow and clear-paced words making her eyes brim with tears once again.

"You are hurting me," She whispered shaking her head, he knew his grip over her wasn't strong enough to hurt her and she clearly meant by the words he used, he knew it pained her but she needed to understand that by pushing him towards her with force she will only gather more pain for herself.

"I know it's painful, I know my words are too bitter to swallow but it's the truth princess, he doesn't want you. By forcing him you will hurt yourself and him as well." She burst out in heavy tears shaking her head repeatedly murmuring that she can't live without him making Evan to once again pull her in his arms a little tighter this time.

"Don't you remember the words I once told you, princess," He paused when she lazily placed her head over his shoulder burying her face in his neck.

"Love is painful, sometimes gives us happiness but also scraps away a lot from us, prove your love princess, let him go. His happiness is not with you anymore, just let him go." He gripped her firmly while she cried relentlessly in his embrace, he never had seen her this broken and pained before.

His princess, his little sister was always full of joy, he had seen her only smiling and laughing with glee and now seeing her this half-hearted and broken he felt tears stinging his eyes as well. Letting a few drops caress his cheek he pulled her deeper into his embrace vowing to protect her in every way possible.

After a while of crying and trying to accept her fate, she blankly stared at the floor with her eyes still shedding tears, Evan didn't say anything afterward and let her cry her heart out. He knew his princess wasn't a heartless creature like that ungrateful man, she will eventually give up on him but he also knew it was going to hurt her a lot.

"Was my wait worth nothing? Was I a fool to wait ten years for him only to hear that he didn't even remember me?" He heard her hoarse voice making him sigh sadly. Gently caressing her head he uttered.

"Maybe there was something good hidden for you in this as well," He tried to comfort her but she chuckled ruefully pulling her body away from his warmth.

"What good it would be? I love him so much, do you think I can move on? Do you think I can accept someone else when I waited on his and only his name? " This time Evan had no word to say, he knew she was right.

She had waited unconditionally for him for the past ten years, he admired her patience and always felt envious of Leonard for having such a loving woman in his life who can devote her life to him. It wasn't like Freya never got any kind of proposals, she did. During her college time, Freya used to have many admirers who wanted to pursue her and even one guy proposed to her for a direct marriage but she refused all of them telling them that she already was engaged.

Now what? Evan helplessly stared at his little girl wanting to get rid of her sadness but he knew he had nothing in his hands as well, he could only say empty words but couldn't do anything to wipe away the ache her heart was suffering from. The girl has always believed in a saying that everything happens for the greater good, but today she seemed so broken and hopeless.

Palming her damped cheek he softly pulled her face up letting his dark eyes meet with her misty ocean ones, "I understand it hurts, I can't even do anything to help you but I will only advise you one thing. Don't hold onto someone who doesn't wants you." Freya stared at him with a teary gaze giving no reaction to his words but Evan knew his words had left a huge impact on her mind.

Freya stayed in the same spot for a few minutes before she decided to head back home, she internally chuckled in despair thinking about that home, she always considered that place her home, and she always thought she was going to spend her whole life there but now her illusion had started breaking down. That mansion was no longer her home, it was his and his soon-to-be wife's which she wouldn't be anymore.

Freya walked back to the house only to halt in her steps when she heard a familiar voice that felt so unknown to her now, his voice was deeper than before but the softness that his tongue held before was replaced by ruggedness. She was ready to avoid going towards the living room when she again heard something which brought another wave of tears to her eyes.

"I told you years back dad that I will never marry her! She's just a fucking orphan and we were generous enough to give her shelter and a better life. But apart from that don't expect me to give such a worthless girl the title of my wife!" Freya shut close her eyes placing her trembling hand on the wall beside her to balance her staggering legs.

It didn't hurt her that someone called her orphan, it wasn't the first time she heard that word but it broke her because of the fact that it was him who used those words for her. Her Leo was always cautious of what to say in front of her then how could the same man use those noxious words for her without a second thought?

Tears rapidly kissed her cheeks as she stumbled towards her room and fortunately her legs gave up only after she entered her room, she fell on the carpeted floor covering her face with her trembling palms and crying bitterly. She couldn't recognize this man, she couldn't tell if he was really her Leo. He had changed. He had changed so much.

Seemed like none of her prayers of him to not be worst than his father was accepted, he was beyond worst, he had become heartless, ruthless, and cruel in so many ways that she couldn't decipher if he had left any good thing in him or not. Crying dejectedly the scene of his hand being cuddled in that woman's flashed before her eyes and yes.

It pained, it pained her so much that she didn't have the slightest energy left to stand up. Laying on the carpeted floor she closed her eyes giving her mind a little time to relax. She indeed needed to make a decision, she knew if she pushed him to marry her then this pain will be doubled but if she let him go then she will also suffer the grief, the pain of loneliness, and rejection.

Now it was in her hand which pain was she willing to embrace.
