Jessica’s POV
I feel like my chest is going to explode with frustration. Just a little more, and I might end up yelling at this arrogant man. Just because you're my boss doesn't mean you can treat me like this. Excuse me, you are not my boss! I muttered to myself. Ugh, this infuriating man. If Sir George hadn’t asked me, I would have never agreed to be your temporary secretary. Deep breaths, Jessica. You can do this. It’s just three days, and after that, I won’t have to see this man's face again. But wait, why did he even agree to have me as his temporary secretary if he doesn’t trust me at all? I was already briefed about his attitude, but I didn’t expect it to be this bad. I quietly stared out the window as we traveled. I didn’t even realize I had fallen asleep. "Wake up! Get the bags!" I was startled awake by a loud voice and the sound of a car door slamming shut. “Oh, crap! I’m dead meat again with this guy who has worse mood swings than a woman on her period. Seriously.” I hurriedly grabbed our luggage and rushed to catch up with my boss. After checking in, we headed straight to the room where we’d be staying for three days. It was a large suite with two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. I placed his luggage inside his room while he immediately went to the office table, opened his laptop, and started working. I sat at the other table and opened my iPad to organize everything he would need for tomorrow. I had already prepared everything last night. I just needed to check if anything needed to be added or if I had missed anything important. I didn't realize that nearly two hours had passed. If my stomach hadn’t growled, I wouldn’t have stopped. I glanced at my boss. He was still completely focused on his work, as if he never got tired. I didn’t want to disturb him, but my stomach was starving. “Sir, I’ll head downstairs to eat. Would you like anything?” He lowered his glasses and looked at me. “I’m sorry, I lost track of time. Here, buy anything you want. I just need to finish this.” He handed me his black card. I was shocked by how calmly he said it. I honestly expected him to snap at me again. I was so stunned that I just stood there, not moving. “Here, take this!” he repeated, his eyebrows now furrowed. I quickly grabbed the card. “How about you, sir? What will you eat?” I asked. “No need. I’ll just order over the phone.” “I can order for you, sir.” “I said I can manage! Go!” he snapped. “Okay, sir. I’m going now.” Ugh, I was just trying to be nice and get him food, yet he’s the one getting angry? Fine, starve if you want! I turned away, muttering under my breath. “I can hear you!” “Huh?!” I turned back, startled, and quickly covered my mouth. “I’m really going now!” I said before running off. I was out of breath by the time I reached the elevator. “Oh no, why did I say that out loud?” I groaned, smacking my lips. “I’m so dead when I get back. Whatever, I just need to feed my poor, growling stomach.” I rubbed my belly as I entered the hotel’s restaurant. While eating, I overheard two men at the table behind me. Even though they were speaking quietly, I clearly heard them mention Sir Nick’s name. “Is everything ready for tomorrow? Let’s see if Nick can still fight back. He’s too full of himself and never listens. We need to teach him a lesson.” “Exactly. Let’s see if he can still refuse after what we’re going to do.” I frowned. What are they planning for tomorrow? “Hmm, I should warn Sir Nick. But ugh, he’s always so grumpy. It’s hard to deal with him. How should I tell him? Oh well, I’ll figure it out later.” After finishing my meal, I went straight back to our hotel room. When I entered, Sir Nick was no longer at his desk. I also didn’t see any food around. I just shrugged and went to my room. My body was itching, I needed a shower. After showering, I peeked into the living room to check if Sir Nick needed anything. He was still not at his desk. I hesitated to knock on his door, afraid he might yell at me again. Ugh, whatever. I’ll just do it. I practiced my knocking several times, debating whether it should be soft or firm. Just when I was about to knock, the door suddenly swung open, and my hand landed directly on his chest. Out of shock and panic, I jumped back and shoved him. “Waaah!” I screamed. Thankfully, he managed to grab onto the doorframe. “What is wrong with you!?” he snapped in irritation. “S-Sorry, sir! I just wanted to ask if you needed anything before I go to sleep.” I explained hurriedly. “No. Go to bed. But make sure to wake up early!” “Okay, sir. Goodnight.” I was about to head back to my room when I suddenly remembered something. “Ah, sir!” “What now!?” he asked loudly, making me jump. “I-I just wanted to ask… Have you eaten yet?” “I’ll eat later.” He didn’t even look at me and went straight back to his work. “Okay, sir. I’m really going to sleep now. Goodnight.” He completely ignored me. I rolled my eyes and mimicked him, “I’ll eat later… na na na na na.” “Ugh, he’s so grumpy! Acting like he’s all that. But… wait, he is handsome. And fresh-looking. And his chest was… firm.” “Wait, erase! Erase! That’s not allowed. I can’t be looking at my boss like that. No falling in love, Jessica. No way!.” I clutched my chest, talking to myself like a crazy person. Despite being annoyed, I still ordered food for Sir Nick. He was probably too busy to remember eating. “Whatever, it’s his money anyway. If he doesn’t eat it, that’s his problem.” I muttered. Maybe it was the exhaustion from the trip, but as soon as I lay down, I fell asleep immediately.Nick's POVI was still focused on my laptop when I heard the doorbell ring."Steak, beetroot, horseradish & warm lentil salad with Cabernet Sauvignon wine for Mr. Nicholas Ford, requested by Miss Jessica Laviste."My stomach growled the moment I saw the food. I had forgotten to order.I went straight to eat after the waiter left. I couldn't help but smile. Despite my temporary secretary's nonstop chatter and occasional mistakes, she was thoughtful.I almost choked on my food when I suddenly remembered how she looked earlier when her hand accidentally hit me. She jumped as if she had stepped on a sea urchin. And her sleepwear,. loose t-shirts and loose pajama pants.I must admit, she is beautiful. Beyond beautiful. And she has a sexy body. Wait, what? Am I praising her? No, no, no. Those qualities are perfect for a seductive secretary, and I must not fall victim. Never!I forced myself to push away any good thoughts I had about Jessica. I needed to stay focused. This project is crucial
Jessica’s POVI nervously followed behind Sir Nick. My sister, Andrea, saw me. I'm in trouble. I thought she was in Europe for a business meeting. Dad doesn’t even know that I’m working for George, let alone for Nicholas. Our family and Nick’s family are in the same line of business.Yes, I am not a typical secretary. I am the daughter of Elmer Laviste and Matilda Laviste, the owners of Laviste Land Inc. My sister, Andrea Laviste, is a sharp businesswoman and the reason our company has grown even more. They never let me handle our company because they want me to focus on painting and the arts. To them, I am weak and not good at business, so they entrusted it all to my sister, Andrea. What they don’t know is that I’ve been working for George for almost a year now. I wanted to surprise them. I wanted to prove that I also have value in business, that I can help them, and that they can rely on me.I paced back and forth inside my room. I couldn’t stay still. What should I do? Dad might fi
Andrea's POV"Yes, were you able to get it? I need that copy tomorrow. I want it to be clear and concise as usual. Please finish it ASAP." I put down my phone. I pursed my lips and took a sip of wine. "One down, and you are mine." I feel so happy right now.But that happiness quickly turned into annoyance when I remembered my sister. I can't help but feel jealous. She's always so close to Nick. I'm willing to be his secretary just to be near him. I've been with other men, trying to move on from him, but I always come back to Nick. His kiss is different. His touch and caress are different. I search for it in other men, but I can never find it. Only Nick made me feel that way. "Oh, Nick, I miss you. You will come back to me, Nick. I swear." I went upstairs to eat. As I was about to enter the restaurant, I saw Nick and Jessica talking seriously while eating. They didn’t look like they were on a date, but my heart burned with anger and jealousy. I faked a smile before approaching them.
Jessica’s POVI was the first to enter the hotel room and went straight to my room. I didn’t know why my face felt so hot. Was it because I was embarrassed earlier since we were with company? Or was it because of what Sir Nick said. That I was more beautiful than my sister? Wait, wait… Why am I affected by what he said? Why does my heart feel happy because of it?"Erase, erase, Jessica. You shouldn’t feel this way. He is the man your sister loves. What you need to do is avoid him," I scolded myself.I saw how my sister, Andrea, looked at Sir Nick. I never expected her to love someone like this. Even though he’s a womanizer, she’s still willing to accept him. I knew she was hurt by what Sir Nick did earlier, but I couldn’t even comfort her because I was afraid we’d get caught.Ugh, I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m so confused. What if Sir Nick finds out that Sis Andrea is my sister? Ahh, I’m doomed!"Inhale, exhale! Two days to go, and you’re done. You won’t see Sir Nick anymore. A
Gala Night - Corporate SoiréeJessica’s POVAfter the presentation earlier, Nick and I went up to our hotel room because there was a party happening later that night. This was the closing event for the conference.I couldn’t sit still because I didn’t have a dress for the party. I had no idea that Sir Nick would be bringing me along. No matter how hard I tried to pick from the clothes that I brought, nothing seemed appropriate for the occasion."I’ll just say I have a stomachache so he won’t take me," I whispered to myself.I was startled when someone suddenly knocked on my door. I quickly opened it. It was Sir Nick "I asked someone to bring different dresses for you for tonight. You can choose anything that suits you," he said.I hurried outside and was stunned to see a variety of dresses laid out before me. I was still in shock, overwhelmed by the number of options, when Sir Nick spoke again."This will be the last day you’ll work for me. So give it your best shot."I don’t know wh
Nick’s POV I noticed some commotion near the buffet area, and I saw that Jessica seemed to be involved. I walked toward them, and my ears burned when I heard what a woman was saying. I was about to approach in anger, but then I stopped and smiled. Jessica didn’t need me. She could defend herself. That only, made me admire her more. I watched as she walked out like a model, but the moment she neared the door, she suddenly picked up her pace as if she were running away from a dog. I smiled even more. "She is so cute," I whispered to myself. I was about to follow her when someone suddenly blocked my path. "Nick! You look dashing tonight. I wasn’t able to congratulate you earlier.. It was a fabulous presentation," Andrea said enthusiastically. "Thank you! Please excuse me," I said hurriedly, trying to leave. "Nick! Are you avoiding me?" she asked, her voice trembling as she grabbed my arm. "I know Jessica is not your girlfriend. I know you only did that to hurt me. I know what we
Chapter 9Jessica's POV5 Days LaterI was in the painting room of our mansion. Daddy didn’t allow me to leave the house after he found out what I had done. I had no idea how he found out. When I arrived at my condo after the business conference, I received a call from Daddy, ordering me to come home that same day. I could still remember how furious he was that day.As soon as I arrived home, I felt nervous. I expected that they already knew what I had done. When I entered the house, I ran into Manang Lita."Good evening, Manang. Where’s Daddy?""Good evening, Senyorita. He’s in the dining area," she replied.I took a deep breath before entering the dining area. I saw them eating in silence at the long wooden table. Various dishes were served, and servers stood nearby, waiting for their orders. The atmosphere was tense. It had been months since I last saw Daddy and Mommy, so I was happy to see them again."Good evening, Dad, Mom, Sis," I greeted them cheerfully. I kissed them one by o
Chapter 10Jessica’s POV"Manang, has Daddy come home yet?" I asked one of our housemaids who had just brought me a snack."Not yet, Señorita," she replied.I simply nodded and continued painting. I still couldn't understand why they wouldn’t let me help with the family business. I went against their wishes to further hone my painting skills and studied business instead. Not to boast, but I know I'm already good at painting. Many people admire my artwork and want to get to know me, but I chose to remain a secret. I don’t know why,. I guess I’m just not ready to reveal myself to the world yet. Maybe it’s because I grew up always confined to my room, never allowed to come out during family occasions. Only a few people even know that Daddy has another child. I used to ask them why, and they always told me it was to keep me safe because the business world is dangerous. I understood their reasoning, especially since my grandfather was almost kidnapped before. Maybe that’s why they are so s
Jessica's POVAfter a while, I started enjoying skating. My fear was gone. Rich and I just laughed whenever I fell. Somehow, during those moments, I forgot about Nick. Like now, Rich was happily showing off his skating skills. I could see he really loved skating. I just smiled while watching him, already tired from all the skating. After a few rounds, he skated toward me.“When did you learn how to skate, Rich? You're really good at it,” I asked.“Hmm, let me think.” He stroked his chin like he was deep in thought.“I think I started during elementary. I was challenged to skate because my friends teased me. It took a while before I could skate without holding onto someone,” he said with a smile.“I still remember how many times I fell. Too many to count. I almost gave up. Hehe.”“Did you join competitions?” I asked.“I fell in love with skating, so yes! Eventually, I got good and joined competitions.” Rich’s eyes sparkled as he said that, reminiscing about one of the happiest times in
Jessica’s POVI glanced in the direction of Nick and Ate Andrea before getting into the car. I saw how bright her smile was while talking to Nick. I was holding back my tears. It hurt. Nick didn’t even want to listen to me. I sadly got into Rich’s car. Rich looked at me and smiled. "You know what? I know a place where happiness exists," he said cheerfully. I forced a smile."And where’s that?" I asked, a little doubtful. "Trust me! It’s a surprise. So, are you in?" he asked excitedly. It took me a while to answer. Maybe I did need a little distraction. If I went home now, Nick wouldn’t even talk to me. I’d just sulk in my room. It was only seven o’clock. I took a deep breath."Okay, let’s go," I said with a smile.A few moments later, I noticed Rich’s car pulling into a mall. I looked at him curiously."Have you tried skating?" he asked."No," I replied."Come on!" He pulled me toward the skating rink. I noticed there was no one else around. Just us. I looked at him questioningly.
Nick’s POV “I think we should eat. The food’s getting cold,” I said firmly. Both Andrea and Jessica looked at me at the same time.“Oh yeah! Sorry, Nick! Let’s eat!” Andrea said sweetly.I was observing Jessica earlier while she was feeling embarrassed by Andrea’s remarks. I think it was a mistake to agree to have dinner with Andrea. Here I go again. Instead of staying mad at Jessica, my protective instincts are kicking in. I hate it when people mistreat her.I kept watching her as she ate. I felt like she hadn’t eaten again. She always does this and it annoys me.“Here, Nick, this one’s really good. Try it,” Andrea offered me some seafood and even peeled it for me. I just let her. “Thank you,” I replied briefly. She smiled at me so beautifully. I saw Jessica shoot a subtle glance at Andrea. I couldn’t help but chuckle at her expression. Then she pouted and quietly kept eating, focusing on her food. I could tell she was slicing her meat with so much intensity.Even the way she was
Jessica’s POV I was shocked when I saw Nick entering our company building. I had just returned from lunch and was in the lobby. I was about to greet him, but I noticed the serious look on his face. His eyes narrowed when he saw me, so I stopped walking halfway. Nick really has a strong presence, especially when he’s in business attire. So powerful. I could hear whispers from people behind me.“He’s so handsome! Who is he??”“Oh!? Is that Nicholas Ford? Why is he here? I thought our companies were rivals?” “Damn! He’s even more handsome in person,” someone squealed with excitement. A few moments later, I saw Ate Andrea greet Nick with a smile. She even kissed him on the cheek, and Nick just let her. My fists clenched. “Oh-em-gee… this is hot gossip!! Could Ma’am Andrea be his girlfriend?? Wow! They’re such a perfect match! The Princess of the Construction Business and the King of Design. Perfect combo, even their heights match! Ayiiee, I’m getting giddy,” a flamboyant guy behind me
Andrea’s POV Jessica and I arrived at the office at the same time. I could see how downcast she looked, walking into the elevator like she was in a daze. She didn’t even notice me. I smirked in triumph. I know I’ve successfully stirred conflict in their relationship. And I’m just getting started. I won’t let them get back together. I know Jessica, and I know Nick. I can play them both in the palm of my hand. I smiled to myself. Jessica’s steps looked so heavy. She left the elevator without even lifting her head. She just kept looking down. When I arrived at my office, I happily greeted all the employees there. I noticed them exchanging glances. Haha, they’re not used to seeing me cheerful and in a good mood.Once I got into my office, I called my secretary. She came in right away.“Kindly set a meeting with Nicholas Ford of AMT Construction,” I said.“Okay, Miss Laviste.” She was about to leave, but I suddenly thought of a great plan. “Wait! Ask if we could have the meeting here at
Dominic's POVWe were still joking around in the pantry with one of the secretaries when we saw Sir enter the office looking grim. We quickly stood up from our seats and rushed to greet him. “Good morning, Sir!!” we greeted him with smiles.“Call the marketing team and the designers. We have an emergency meeting!!!” he said firmly.I felt nervous from Sir Nick’s aura and tone of voice. It’s been a long time since he acted like this. The secretary beside me looked at me with questioning eyes. I simply shrugged in response. I followed behind Sir Nick as he walked into his private office.“Sir, it’s not even eight yet, so some people aren’t in the office yet,” I said. He went straight to his chair and looked through the documents I had placed on his desk.“By the way, I’ve already set an appointment with Sir Carlos San Fernando. He said he’s available tomorrow night.”He looked at me for a long moment before speaking.“We didn’t get the project, so we don’t need a major investor anymor
Jessica’s POVMy steps felt heavy as I walked out of Nick’s condo. My tears wouldn’t stop falling. I never expected Nick’s anger to run that deep. When I stepped out, I turned around to glance at his door. I couldn’t bring myself to walk toward Scarlett’s condo.I didn’t go home last night because Dad didn’t want me to. He said I should just go home in the morning. I was too busy taking care of Rich anyway. Dad insisted that I attend to Rich while he and Rich’s father played chess. So I showed him around the house. Some of my paintings were displayed there, and I proudly showed them to Rich. I loved how much he understood art, his knowledge of it was impressive. We were in the middle of a cheerful conversation when Sister Andrea arrived. I saw her walk in, clearly drunk, swaying as she entered. I was about to help her, but she gave me a “shh!” sign, reminding me not to mind her. Rich and I just watched her walk past. When I looked out the window, I thought I saw Nick’s car. I shook m
Nicholas' POVI turned my back when Dad told me he loved Elena, even when my mom was still alive. I covered myself with a blanket and ignored him. I felt so betrayed. I was hurting for Mom. I couldn’t even bring myself to question Dad.“Let’s talk tomorrow, Nick, when you’re no longer drunk. I have something important to tell you too. Get some rest for now.”I didn’t respond, so he left me alone. He tapped me before walking out. After that night, we never got to talk again. I booked another ticket back abroad. Dad wasn’t there when I left because he had an emergency at the company. Since that night, my relationship with Dad changed. I became distant. I focused on studying and got into other extracurricular activities. I forced myself to take my mind off the Country and forced myself to be happy.Eventually, Elena and Dad got married. Dad sent me an invitation, but I didn’t go. I made up an excuse. Dad didn’t push me either. I spent more time abroad than at home. Elena treated me well,
Nicholas' POV~~~~ Flashback – 16 Years Ago ~~~~After Mom’s burial, I went back abroad. I didn’t have the time to investigate what I had overheard. Life went on despite the tragedy in our family. From being a happy-go-lucky guy, I became more serious about life. I was already in my second year of college studying architecture when I decided to go back to the Philippines for a vacation.I missed Dad. I wanted to spend time with him. I was excited to see him, so I decided to give him a surprise visit at his office.I happily went up to his office. The long-time employees in the company recognized me, so they let me through without a problem. When I entered Dad’s office, I ran into his assistant. I gave him a quiet signal since I wanted to surprise Dad. However, when I opened the door, I was the one surprised. I saw Dad kissing a woman. The woman was sitting on his office table. They were kissing passionately. Dad quickly pushed her away when he saw me standing at the door.“Nick!” he g
