It was evening and Natasha was sitting on the couch, her legs folded with a bowl of popcorn on her thighs. Her gaze was wholly concentrated on the television as she occasionally reached into the bowl to throw an handful of popcorn into her mouth.
Diane was at the dining table at the far end of the living room. A couple of files were spread out in front of her. Her head was buried into them as she tried to sort them out.
Malvika descended the stairs and walked towards Natasha. She slumped into the seat. “Hey,” she muttered. Natasha simply gave her a nod and turned back to the television. Malvika reached out a hand and dipped them into the bowl. She packed an handful of popcorn and threw them into her mouth.
Natasha turned to glare at her. “Thief.”
Malvika rolled her eyes. “Is Nicholas back?” she asked.
“No. Where is Jenny?”
“I don’t know. Somewhere in her room, maybe,” Malvika replied.
The doorbell rang and Rachel ran from the kitchen to open it. “Welcome sir, welcome ma’am,” she greeted.
Malvika and Natasha sat up as soon as they held her greet. They looked at each other expectantly and grinned. There was drama on the way and they were here for it.
Nicholas and Ashley stepped inside the house. Ashley sat down on a sofa and kicked off her heels. “Rachel, take this to Nicholas’ room,” she ordered and Rachel obediently complied.
Nicholas removed his cap and dropped it on the table with a loud thump. “Gosh,” he muttered, combing through his hair with his hand.
While Diane stared longingly at him, attracted to the way he slowly combed through his hair with his hands, Natasha let out an amused giggle at how obvious his pink and purple hair was under the bright florescent light. “I kind of like your hair like this,” she said giggling. “It’s cute.”
Nicholas scowled at her. “Shut up. Where is Jenny? She’s supposed to tell me if she saw the footage.”
“Wasn’t Ashley supposed to check with her?” Malvika asked pretentiously and with inwards glee.
“Yes, but Jenny told me to go and meet Nick on set,” Ashley chirped in her annoying high pitched voice.
The sound of running footsteps were heard on the stairs. Nicholas turned towards the stairs and saw his sister hurrying down. “Gosh, Nicholas! You won’t believe what happened today! I got stuck in the bathroom!” she yelled.
Nicholas raised a brow. “What?”
“I got stuck in the bathroom,” she repeated, standing akimbo.
“Wow. What happened?”
“I don’t know but the door refused to open,” she said, her confused. “It felt like someone locked me in from outside. Gosh, it was the most frustrating thing that ever happened to me!”
“So how come you are here?” he asked, taking his seat beside Ashley and putting his arm around her to draw her close. He was unaware of Diane’s piercing gaze on him.
“Well….” She hesitated, a frown across her face.
Malvika spoke up with a cheeky smile, “I helped her.”
“Ohhh,” Nicholas nodded slowly.
Jenny scowled in Malvika's direction. “Whatever.” She turned to Ashley. “Ash, where the fuck did you go to?! We were supposed to go through the CCTV footage together!”
Ashley gave her a confused look. “You asked me to meet with Nicholas.”
“What are you talking about? I did not!”
“You did. You sent me a message.” She brought out her phone. “Here it is.”
Jenny went through the message and shook her head frantically. “No, no, I did not.”
“So, are you saying I’m lying? Of course you did! This is the evidence.”
Jenny brought out her phone and frantically searched. Her eyes widened when she saw the message. “But I did not!”
“Calm down,” Nicholas said, standing up. “Jenny, did you give your phone to anyone?”
“I’m not…..wait, Ash, you came to ask for my phone this morning.”
“Me? I did not!”
“Yes you did. It sounded just like you and you asked for my phone. You also asked for my password.”
“No!” Ashley shrieked.
Natasha covered her hands from prying sight with a pillow and pinched Malvika’s thighs while stifling a giggle.
“You did! You said you wanted to use my phone then, you asked for my password!”
“I did not!”
“You….”
Nichikas stood up with a deep sigh. “That’s okay,” he stated. “It doesn’t matter anymore.”
“But….” Jenny started.
“I said it doesn’t matter!” Nicholas replied sternly. “Jenny, did you get any clue?”
Jenny shook her head. “No. I didn’t find any suspicious video.”
Diane noiselessly sighed in relief, averting her longing gaze from Nicholas and keeping her head down as she looked at her papers.
Nicholas heaved another sigh. “Let’s eat first.” His gaze trailed to the dining table and he saw Diane sitting with her head bowed. “Oh, Diane, I didn’t see you there.”
Diane raised her head and frowned at him. She packed up her book, stood up and stalked angrily towards the stairs.
------------------------------------------------------
Diane rolled around on the bed, unable to sleep. She shut her eyes tightly, wishing sleep would overtake her but she was still aware of her surroundings. She swore under her breath as she sat up on the bed. She reached for the wall and pressed the switch. She blinked rapidly as light flooded the room.
Looking around the bright room, she sighed in frustration, slamming her pillow on the bed multiple times.
She hated this.
She hated that all she could think about was Nicholas. She hated that all she could focus on was the shape of his body, his soft, silky hair, the way he blinked his eyes when confused, the long strides he took while walking, his husky voice that sent her body tingling.
How he loved Ashley in a way he could never her, Diane. That hurt the most.
Diane sighed. She swung her feet off the bed, towards the floor and pulled herself up from the bed. Sluggishly, she wore her flip-flops and moved towards the door. She quietly opened it and walked out. She walked down the stairs and headed to the kitchen. Tracing her hand on the wall, she found the switch to the bulb and pressed it on. Then, she walked to the freezer, opened it and started to raid it.
She was so busy pulling out the biscuits, cookies and chocolates in the freezer that she didn’t hear the footsteps coming behind her.
“What are you doing?”
“Ahhhhh!” she shrieked, jerking up and whirling around. Her shoulders sagged in relief when she saw Nicholas resting on the door frame with his arms folded. She placed her palm on her chest. “Oh God! You scared me!” she exclaimed, staring at him.
“What are you doing?”
“Oh, I couldn’t sleep, so I came here to eat whatever I can find,” she said, turning to gently closed the freezer. “What about to” she asked, trying not to sound as anxious and self-conscious as she felt. She picked up the cookies and chocolates that she had gathered in a large tray and brushed past him back into the living room.
“Oh nothing,” he replied as he walked after her. “I also couldn’t sleep.”
“Great. Bye,” she replied, falling onto the couch, with the tray tightly held in her hand.
Nicholas ignored her words and slipped into the space beside her. “You are not going to eat all that alone, are you?”
“Oh, I can if I want to. I’m just going to eat as much as I can.” She said. She picked up a packet of cookies, ripped it open, picked one and bit into it. Hesitatingly, she held it out to Nicholas. “Here. Want one?”
“Of course,” he replied, picking one of the cookies and shoving it into his mouth. “You know,” he began as he chewed. He waited to swallow the cookie before continuing. “Ashley never eats all these stuff.”
“Hmmph,” Diane gave an uninterested snort. “Really?” she asked in a calm, bored tone. If he wanted to talk to her, then talking about Ashley was one of the worst ways to start.
“Yeah, you know she’s a model and she needs to be in shape,” he said, reaching out to pick another piece of cookie.
“Well, then, I feel sorry for her.”
“What? Why?”
“She’s missing out on all these deliciousness and thrills,” Diane replied. “I mean, isn’t it thrilling waking up in the midnight for the purpose of eating junk foods?”
Nicholas stared at her, his lips stretching into a wide smile. “Right?!” he concurred, laughing quietly.
Diane felt herself staring into his smiley face and smiling herself. His smile and laughter was so contagious. And he was even more handsome with that smile lighting up his face. Diane’s hands twitched as she it itched to touch and stroke his face.
“Hey, wanna watch a movie?” he asked, interrupting her thoughts.
“Uhn?” she blinked twice. “Uh, yeah, yeah, sure.”
He smiled at her, stood up and headed to the television. After switching it on and setting the movie up, he walked back towards her and sat down. They both gazed at the television, reaching out once in a while to pick a cookie or a bar of chocolate.
“You know, if it were Ashley we will be cuddling by now,” Nicholas told her jokingly.
Diane faked a laugh. ‘Oh please,' she thought, rolling her eyes. 'like I want to hear all about your relationship with Ashley.’
She fought hard to concentrate on the movie but how could she when Nicholas’ arm kept brushing hers, making all the hairs on her body stand; when his thighs kept coming in contact with her; when all she wanted to do was grab him by his head and kiss him as long and as hard as she could. But she couldn’t do all those things. Having him so close beside her was messing up her mind. She involuntarily let out a small groan.
Nicholas glanced at her. “What’s wrong?” he asked.
“Uhn, no….nothing. I’m just a little bit tired,” she replied, faking a yawn at the end.
“You want to go and sleep?”
‘Sleep? Hell no!’ she thought to herself. “No, no. Actually, I want to finish the movie.” Finish the movie? More like she wanted to continue sitting with him in the semi-dark room, with his body touching hers occasionally.
“Okay.” Nicholas three his arms around her shoulder making her gasp lowly at the contact. He drew her closer and made her rest her head on him. “Here. See you can relax and still watch the movie.”
Diane grinned, glad that he couldn’t see her face. She sighed as she inhaled his scent, all her senses suddenly aware of him. She loved the feel of his arm around his body and she snuggled closer to him, their bodies molding perfectly together.
Whatever it was that made Nicholas act like this, she had no idea. All she knew was that she loved it and would revel in it for as long as she could. She knew it wasn’t going to last long. So, she planned to enjoy it for the meantime.
She sighed softly, feeling calm and soothed by his hands and body. She closed her eyes, a wide smile on her face.
And drifted off to sleep.
Once again, Diane was in the conference room with the shareholders of the company. She rocked her chair as she stared into the faces of the men sitting before her. It seemed so unbelievable that she would be heading a meeting consisting of about five smart, rich, wealthy and powerful people. She rocked her chair slowly, her face grim and unsmiling. “Well?” She broke the tense silence. “What should we do?” “We should invest in the cement company,” Derrick Hale said – for the umpeeteenth time- coldly and harshly. “I don’t see any reason to invest into junk foods.” “The only reason why you want to invest in the cement company is because it happens to be one of the companies you also invest in,” Edward McClain said to Derrick Hale, giving him terrible eyes. “What is wrong with that?” Derrick Hale spat out vexedly. “Everything is wrong with it,” Jasper Harrington said with a narrowed look. “Mr. Hale seems to have forgotten that we do
Diane walked into the restaurant, her arm hooked into Jayden’s. They stopped at the entrance for a while, surveying the restaurant. “Wow, this place is actually beautiful.”Jayden tightened his hold on Diane. “Yeah, it is,” he replied softly, staring down to look at her face. Diane looked up at him and gave him one of those beautiful smiles that melted his heart away. “Come on let’s get our seat.”As they moved, a water intercepted them. “Good afternoon, sir, ma. How may we help you?”“Good afternoon. I made a reservation under the name Jayden Hale.”The waiter flopped through a pad. Then, he raised his head and smiled. “Of course. Come this way,” he said, turning to walk. Jayden and Diane followed him without complaint. He took them to a seat beside the window. “Here is your seat, Sir and Ma,” he stated.Diane gave him a smile. “Thank you.”
Diane gasped has he kissed her roughly. He slid his arm around her waist and cupped the back of her neck with his other hand. Unconsciously, she hooked her hands around his neck and tilted her head to deepen the kiss. Nicholas slid his hand to her ass and squeezed it. She gasped at the action, opening her mouth in the process and his tongue thrust into hers, demanding and possessing. She moaned into his mouth. Nicholas traced his hand down her body, lingering at her ass and cupping her breasts a few times. He slipped his hands into the blouse she was wearing and brushed her nipple through the thin and lacy bra she was wearing. He held one of her breasts in his hand and squeezed it roughly.Diane senses jolted from the action and she suddenly became aware of the action. Her eyes widened as she broke the kiss and frantically pushed him aside. “What the hell?!” she spat out, wiping her mouth and trying really hard to adjust her now disheve
Diane swung her leg across the bed to the floor and walked to the bathroom. She stood in front of the mirror, looked at her reflection, placed her hands on her cheek and sighed. She looked messy. Her hair was messily sticking out from the band that held it. Her face was puffy and her eyes looked swollen. But that wasn’t what she was worried about. She kept thinking about the little stunt Nicholas pulled during dinner and how badly it affected. How are body had tingled when he out his hands inside of her; how her skin felt like it was on fire when he moved his hands around. She hadn’t wanted him to stop and she couldn’t deny that it felt so good and it left her extremely needy for a release but she knew she had to stop. Nicholas just wanted to mess with her feelings; she was so sure about that. And she wasn’t going to let him do that. The knock on her door interrupted her thoughts. “I’m coming,” she said and
Malvika drove into the parking lot of the bookshop. She turned off the car, picked her handbag and got down. She locked the door, adjusted her skirt and walked into the bookshop. She had no daily job to get to and the house was becoming boring for her. So, she decided to pick up new books to keep herself busy. She walked into the bookshop, stopping by the counter to say 'hi' to the lady behind it. “Hello Joan,” she said with a charming smile. “Looking lovely today.”“Hi Malvika,” Joan greeted, looking up with a smile. “It’s nice to see you. It’s being a while you came here.”“Oh yes. I went through a major change in my life, you know. Anyway, I’m here now and will probably be visiting frequently. Got any new books for me?”“Oh, we’ve got a lot.”“Oh yeah?” Malvika asked with am excited smile.“Yeah. We’ve got new crime thri
Diane groaned in frustration as her phone rang the fifth time. The phone had been ringing and she had refused to pick. Did the person calling not get the memo that she didn’t want to pick or talk to anyone? Angrily, she picked the phone and answered the call. “Who is this?” She snapped.“Diane, this is Logan,” the person replied.“Oh! I’m so sorry, Logan, I had no idea it was you.”“That’s okay,” Logan said reassuringly. “Actually, I called to inform you that preparations for your father’s burial has been completed.”“Oh my God!” Diane gasped. “Thanks, Logan. I’ve been so caught up with different things lately that I forgot to ask about that.”“It’s okay. All that remains for us is to pick a date. Does the twenty second of next month sound okay to you?”“Yeah, that’s good.”
Ashley laid on the bed, filing her nails and chewing gum really loudly. She moved her head from side to side as she examined the nails. The door opened and Ashley looked up to see Nicholas coming in. She climbed out of the bed, dropping her nail equipment on the bed and walking towards Nicholas.“Hey baby,” she said with a hug smile, leaning closer to hug him. She snaked her hands round his neck, pulling his head down for a kiss. “How was work?”“Ugh, stressful,” Nicholas muttered.“Aww, honey,” Ashley said, rubbing his back slowly. “Well, will you mind some massage?” She asked as she watched him sit on the bed and kick his shoes away.“I would love it,” he groaned.“Good!” Ashley said excitedly. She moved closer to him and began to unbutton his shirt. She pulled his shirt off him and began to pul
DIANE pressed her nose to the window. She stared outside as Nicholas drove past the houses and trees. She didn’t want to turn to look at him; she didn’t want to start a conversation. She wanted to be alone. But of course, Nicholas did not get the hint. He had to talk. “Hey, are you okay?” he asked.Diane grunted.“Di? Is everything okay?”She grunted again.“Di?”She turned to him. “Can’t you see that I don’t want to talk to you?”He shrugged. “I want to talk.”She rolled her eyes and turned back to the window.“I should tell you a little about my grandparents, right?”“Do whatever you want,” she replied but was really interested in what he had the say.“Well, I&rs
Diane stood in front of the bathroom mirror, her heart thumping wildly, her hands shaking as she unwrapped the pregnancy test packet. She lowered herself into the toilet seat, raising up her dress and pulling down her panties. Closing her eyes, she placed the pregnancy test instrument beneath and let the urine flow on it and into the toilet. Then, she placed it back on the counter and waited. Just a year ago, and some months after Diane’s kidnap, Malvika delivered her baby boy in an hospital and just as she had promised, she gave that baby to Diane and Nicholas. The baby was named Cameron Alan Langston. Some months after birthing her child, Malvika left as she had said she would and took off for Florida to continue her life despite pleas from her sisters – Natasha and Diane. Diane had been raising Cam for a year and she was enjoying every moment of it. But recently she had begun to feel feverish – vomiting all over the house. No food could stay in her belly. At first she thought it wa
A slight sound of movement outside made Diane open her eyes. The entire room was still dark as there was no space for illumination. Her hands and feet were still bound together. Her neck hurt from having bending them in one position for a very long time. The mosquitoes in the room kept biting her and the notes were painful. She had been unable to sleep for a while even with her eyes closed, so when she heard movement in front of the door, her eyes flew open. She fixed her gaze on the door, sensing movements behind it. Her heartbeat increased in fear as she was unable to tear her gaze away from the door. Her fear heightened when someone started to bang something on the door. She began to struggle with her chains, unable to move. “Help!” she yelled. “Somebody, help me!” But the banging increased, until the door was pushed open. She opened her mouth and let out a loud scream when she saw the uniformed men armed to the bones barging in, “Ahhhhhhh…….” “Ma'am, please you can calm down,” On
"Ashley?!" Nicholas exclaimed. Ashley glanced up, her eyes grief and fear stricken. She pushed at the hair that were sticking to her face because of the tears. "Nicholas," she gasped behind her cuffed hands. "Oh my God, Nicholas you are here. I missed you!" She cried. "What are you doing here, Ashley?" Nicholas asked, still shocked and confused. "How....how did you get here?" "I....I was arrested," she mumbled. "For what? How? What did you do?" He threw a series of questions at her, all of which she did not answer. He stared at her, a small frown on his face as something finally clicked. "The cops said they arrested a couple of people who turned out to be a gang. They got an address from these guys and when they got there they found.....you?" He was shocked.....and although he was able to piece it together, he was still very much confused. "I'm sorry," Ashley whispered. "For?" "What happened," she cried. "I....I didn't know at first. She didn't tell me we were going to kill her
Diane slowly opened her eyes. She let out a soft groan of pain as she tried to adjust herself on the ground. Her hands kept pulling against the cuffs. She glances around, shuffling her legs. The entire room was dark, except for the ray of light coming in beneath the door. She had spent almost two days in this hell hole that Jenny and Derek had locked her up in. Just yesterday, one of Jenny's goons had placed a call to her family, demanding a ransom. Diane let out a pant. She was feeling hungry and thirsty. Not only that, her entire body was in serious pains. Her body ached to the marrow and she had this massive headache that forced her to wince from time to time. She could not wait to get out of here, yet she had no idea how she would get out. The doors and windows were locked, her hands and feet were handcuffed and there was absolutely no way that she could free herself. Her best and only option was to wait for Nicholas to pay the ransom so she could be released. Just then, the door
“Hey,” Malvika said as she walked down the stairs tiredly. Natasha was sprawled on the couch, tired from her constant crying. Her eyes were red and her cheeks looked swollen. Malvika walked towards her and sat beside her. “Hey, are you still crying?” She asked, looking around the living room. She saw Nicholas standing by the door, talking lowly to someone on the phone. “I’m too tired to cry,” Natasha answered weakly. Her weeping had seeped out every of her energy. She pulled herself to sit up. “What do you think happened to her? She said she was going out and all of a sudden, we couldn’t find her. How did that happen?” “Okay, I need you to calm down,” Malvika said. “The cops are doing everything they can and Nicholas and I are trying our hardest best to find her. We are going to find her, okay?” Malvika tried to reassure her younger sister. She sounded sure of herself, but deep down, her insides crawled with doubt and fear. What if they were never able to find her? Was she so sure th
“Yeah, I don’t think that’s going to be possible,” Jenny says into her phone, pulling the cigarette away from her lips and blowing out a puff of smoke. She was seated on the chair, her legs crossed out in front of her as she listened to her brother ask her to come to the house. “Nick, I really appreciate the invite, but I’m sorry, I’m not going to be able to make it. And by the way, I’m really sorry about Diane.” After a while, she hung up and threw the phone on the table, letting out a sigh. “Nicholas?” Ashley asked as she flipped through a magazine. She glanced up at Jenny, raising her brow. “Yeah.” Jenny let out an exaggerated sigh. “He wants me to come over today,” she said, rolling her eyes. “I’m not going though. I’m in the middle of something,” she said, blowing out a ring of smoke while Ashley chuckled. “Why can’t we go, though?” “We?” Jenny raised a brow? “Who’s we?” she asked. “You and I of course.” “Okay cute, but he didn’t invite both of us. He invited me, his sister.
Malvika sat in front of the car with Nicholas, her nose pressed on to the window as she was deep in thoughts. Beside her, Nicholas drove as carefully as he could, the both of them thinking about Diane. He was driving her to the restaurant where Diane’s cat was found. She had an inkling of what the restaurant was or who might be behind the kidnap but she needed to confirm it first.“What are you thinking about?” Nicholas asked, breaking the silence. She pursed her lips, turning to look at him. Then, she answers, “I might know who could be Diane’s disappearance,” she answered, slowly and carefully, watching his face for any reaction. He darted a surprised glance in her direction. “Really? Who?”“You are not going to be happy about this,” Malvika answerez. She paused, before finally saying, “Jenny.”“What?!” Nicholas sharply pulled the brake of the car in shock, halting it. A loud honk resonated behind them as a car drove angrily past them. “Sorry!” Nicholas called out, before turning ba
“Any news?” Natasha asked as she descended the stairs with Alyssa behind her. Her eyes were red from tears and she rubbed her cheeks to clean them off. Malvika and Grace were seated on the couch in the living room. Olivia was spread across Grace’s leg, sleeping peacefully. They had all stayed in the living room, waiting to here from Diane but heard nothing.Malvika shook her head. “No. Mark and Nick went to the station this morning,” she said.Natasha sighed, slumping on the chair. Alyssa sat down quietly beside her. “But where did she go?”“No one knows.”“She told me she wanted to receive a phone call,” Grace informed them, rubbing her hands slowly round her daughter, Olivia’s back. “That was all. I didn’t see her again.”“Her car isn’t in the garage,” Malvika said. “So, she went with her car.”“But someone must have seen her leave.”Malvika sighed. “We didn’t and we don’t even know who to ask. Hopefully, Mark and Nicholas will come back with good news.”The four of them sat in the
A groan slipped out of Diane’s mouth. Her left leg moved a bit as she struggled to straighten her shoulders. She subconsciously tugged her hands, sensing that they were in some sort of bondage. She let out another groan, this time fluttering her eyes open slowly. Her hazy sight was, however, met with darkness. She blinked twice, glancing around but her gaze met nothing but darkness. What happened? She wondered, squeezing her eyes shut as she tried to remember what happened the night before. With her eyes still shut, an image of her standing in the living room reading Ashley’s text message. She remembered leaving the house and going to a restaurant that looked deserted and out of business. She remembered thinking she would find Ashley there. And she remembered someone hitting her head. The last thing she remembered was blacking out.Oh God.Was she kidnapped? She was kidnapped! They freaking kidnapped her!Did that happen to Ashley too? Maybe that was why she was texting her. Did the s
