Chapter 2

Chapter Two

POV: Pierce De Luna

I got off from my shift at the restaurant earlier than I normally did. My whole body ached but my mind was as active as a child's color book. I kept thinking about her- Kelly.

There was something about her that separated her from most girls. She was not your average girl; that part was evident. From her fiery red hair to her brown eyes that reminded me of chocolate balls, then her lustrous golden skin, it was impossible to resist her.

I crossed the street and entered the apartment building. The room I shared with my older sister was too small to accommodate an adult elephant but the rent was cheap enough that we didn't have to get on the landlord's naughty list. Most of our neighbors were drug addicts while some were run-down hookers. It wasn't the kind of place you'd take a kid to.

I pulled my hoodie over my head well enough to cover my face. It was the only way I would ever be able to get to my room safely without a crackhead asking if I could spare a loose change.

The elevator no longer worked and according to what we heard when we moved in, it hadn't been functional for the last eight years.

Home sweet home, I thought with a grin as I turned the hall leading to our room. My head was low when I got to the door so I didn't see the girl standing there, waiting but I smelled her.

Jenna...

"Took you forever." She said as she straightened from the resting position she had taken before.

I slapped my forehead in frustration. To think I had almost made it inside without any hitch.

I growled. "Jenna. How may I help you."

I jerked the keys away from the door. She eyed me. I could feel her eyes on me but I couldn't see her expression because I kept my head low. She wasn't worth the stress of looking up.

"Open the bloody door. We need to talk." She said with an impatience common among drug addicts.

I withdrew from the door folding my arms. "We can talk just fine here."

My eyes moved along her body which now had so many similarities with a carcass. Her eyes were drawn and I could see her damned heartbeat on her ripped shirt. You could tell by taking a good look at her that there was once a time she was beautiful but now she had managed to accelerate the aging process.

She moved closer to the door and then suddenly, she starts banging it.

"Open." A bang. "The." Another bang. "Fucking!" A loud bang. "D-"

I didn't wait for her to complete the last sentence before shoving her aside to open the door. The last thing I wanted was a scene that would attract my blood-tasty neighbors. They would dive at any juicy gossip as if it was the bare neck of an innocent fair maiden.

I pushed her inside and locked the door behind us. My heart was beating really fast and I had to rest against the door with my eyes closed willing my palpitations to cease.

My eyes opened to see Jenna there standing naked in front of me. Her pale skin had purple bruises in some places and there were visible scar tissues in her arm from syringes.

Her breasts sloped at an awkward angle and they resembled the ears of a poodle. Her ribs bulged visibly in her almost translucent skin.

"Get dressed. You look like death fucked disease and had a child." I snorted with a laugh.

Her cheeks flushed red. "Bastard!" She yelled.

My laughter burst out as I fell on the chair holding at my sides from the exertion of the laughter.

The look on her face was priceless as she snatched the ripped shirt and jean skirt she had worn here.

She struggled into her clothes trembling from the effort it took her to get them on while standing. I felt bad for her. She had let her addiction destroy her. There was a time when I would have burnt the world for her but those days were gone. She chose drugs over me.

"Baby I need your help." She said in a soft voice. It reminded me of who she used to be.

"I don't have shit to give you. Get out!" She flinched at my harsh tone.

I felt sorry for her. In a way, it was my fault she had ended up the way she did, if only I hadn't given up on her but I had long stopped beating myself over it. God knows I tried everything I could to get her to fight it but she let it win.

"Please leave before Freya gets back. She wouldn't like it if she met you here." I said with the little kindness I still had for her.

She nodded. Jenna stumbled to the door and tried to get it open but her hands were too frail to do the job. I stepped forward to help her with it and she stumbled into the hall.

"Please don't come here anymore, Jenna. You broke up with me two years ago."

She walked away shuffling her feet. I blow air from my mouth and shrugged before closing the door making sure to lock it.

I walked to the bed and collapsed on it letting exhaustion give me its best shot. My mind wandered into a dreamy sleep-induced free fall. There was just one thing on my mind the whole time.

Kelly...
