Ch. 76

Dad cried for a while over James. He cried over the time he missed with us. He threw things as his sadness turned to anger. Anger over how he was a prisoner in his own body and mind. Anger over how weak he felt, never being able to beat the demon on his own. Anger at all the things he missed out on while I grew up. I sent those healing waves towards him, once he slumped down on the floor, once he threw his last item.

"Thanks gumdrop. You've grown up to be such a wonderful woman." Dad pet my head, causing me to feel like a small child again. I groaned, but smiled up at him.

"It had a lot to do with your death. I had to grow up a lot when you died. It definitely matured me faster."

I thought back to middle school and how trivial everyone's drama seemed to me. I didn't care about Becky cheating on John with Noah. I didn't care that the boy my best friend had a crush on liked me instead. Everything just seemed meaningless at that time.
