Miatta
I could still remember that day, the day I had lost my freedom. It was like any other day and I had woken up just like any other time.I sat at my mother's feet, picking at her feet nails as her hands was roaming in my silky dark hair. She was sitting on the couch in the sitting room while I stayed at her feet, silence enveloping up.There wasn't anytime we stay together without chatting from one topic to another endlessly, but today was different. Even as there was many thing to talk about, non of us could. We were waiting patiently for the result of the war. The Royal pack was quite scanty as almost a the guards and warriors were all at the war ground. Many grown up males who aren't warriors had also been picked out and trained for this war.One could clearly notice how hushed everywhere was as those of us who didn't went to the dangerous war fought stayed noiseless, praying and jopinyto have our loved ones back.We could only pray silently that our warriors will return in victory even when it doesn't seem like.My name is Miatta, the only daughter of the alpha of my pack. My father, Alpha Vince was also far away from home with the armies on the field of this dreadful battle. Our total numbers right now could rank in mere hundreds as the fighters are all away all because of the constant attacks on our pack by the neighbouring enemy pack, the Red Bone Pack who had been a terror to us.My two brothers had gone and also join in the war too, leaving the security of the rest of the pack to a handful of foot soldiers. My mother and I was only waiting without knowing what to expect. The pack had put out all their best to end the Red bone pack because that would bring an absolute end to all our sufferings and maltreatment forever. My gaze glided the umpteenth time at the opened window, My ears flicking a bit as I sharpened my hearing ability to know if ill hear any faint sound of victory chants coming from our warriors, but the silence dawned on me the more, dragging me into deeper sadness and fear. “Mother, when do you think they will return? I have a bad feeling about this,” I couldn't hold back as I broke the silence and threw the question at my her face as if she had the answer. She stared at me and swallowed hard as she fluttered those beautiful but sad emerald blue eyes which I inherited from her.She was one of the most beautiful Luna among the all werewolf pack around us and she was like the pride of my father and everyone in the pack, but that was before I was born because I turned out to be her replica.I got my white hair from her and also the plum lips. We also shared the same velvety eyelashes with slender eye brows. I was her resemblance but many always pick out me as being more beautiful with my rapture-blue eyes which looks like the beautiful ripple in the ocean. All that were in the past when our lives were still normal. Now it seemed to have all come to and end. The recent attack and this war had put us in a dilemma that we can't even sleep well at night. At times, my mother stay up all night to perform rituals and other things in her coven to find out how to foresee the plan of the enemies so as to put a stop to our horror. My mother was no ordinary wolf: she was a seer and she only revealed her visions to my father within earshot which had made us stand out as one of the most powerful pack, not until this new enemy arose. Her powers were unable to be help at all and we kept falling into their traps and getting killed in numbers.I was still 16 years and hadn't have my first shift yet or find out if I also had the same powers with my mother, but I was a not a weak or defenseless wolf.My father had trained me alongside my brothers, preparing us all for the fight of our lives but at the last minute, my mother had prevailed upon him to let me remain within the safety of the pack. As usual, he listened to her advice and left me in her care. They had gone for the war almost three days and no one had returned to give us news of the ongoing lupine war.Doesn't that mean we were already defeated and the enemies are coming to take over us?Not it can't be.My mother's eyes turned a bit dimmer at my question but I prefer to ignore them. I don't want to believe my father and brothers won't return from the war. I kept fighting my heart to accept they will soon return. “I believe your father is fine, my dear and so are your brothers. As for the fate of our pack, we can only put our hope in the Moon Goddess." “Tell me, mother, will we win this war? Didn't you foresee the result yet?” I beckoned to her, my voice rising a bit as I was getting scarier. “It is not for me to reveal, dearest; time will tell.” She mumbled and held my chin, rubbing my cheeks soothingly, but I pulled my face away from her in frustration. After being a seer all her life, she couldn't still find out if my father and brother will survive at this most important moment. What is then is the use?Her reply wasn't what I sought for and she knew she failed me so she wasn't surprised when I angrily rose to my feet, heading to my room as tears brimmed my eyes and dropped freely. It all seemed hopeless. The Red Bone Pack were not normal wolves; they were lycans, a special breed created by dark magic. The witches of East Coven had made the first one, a mindless beast whose sole purpose was to protect them from their enemies. When the beast had gone rogue, he had attacked a wolf pack and had been captured, its blood extracted to be experimented on.Their Alpha had tested its blood on several wolves, creating a new breed of demonic wolves. Although they looked like wolves, their transformation was incomplete, cursed creatures as they were. They stood like men, on two feet, their bodies covered in fur and their claws longer than normal. They wiped out the rest of the pack and overpopulated the village. Now they were my father’s biggest problem seeing that they insisted on increasing their territory. That was all we knew about these new enemies that was shaking the wolf community.I got into my room and lay on my bed, feeling my head aching badly and my eyes hurting in burning pain. I don't know why my eyes were so hot like they were ablaze and it also seemed like my inner body was wreaking havoc against each other. The feelings was strange but I had no strength to leave the bed. I thought I was about to have my first shift so I closed my eyes and took deep breaths in readiness, but instead of experiencing those bone cracking and muscle enlarging and reforming, I started to feel an extreme fury burning inside me.I was getting furious at what I couldn't lay hand on, and had no power to control it, then so strangely, began to feel the presence of two beasts inside me.One was a wolf but the other was something I couldn't explain and it seemed to be the reason for the sudden change in my body. Was I a hybrid?I was about screaming my mother's name when it all died down and I felt totally normal again like nothing happened. Was that a hallucination? When night fell and most of us had gone to bed, they attacked. They ambushed us, slaughtering both women and children. A large number of men had joined the army, and the ones left had been taken by surprise. I had tried my best to hold the fort, killing as much as I could. I was skilled with the bow and arrow, and though my mother regretted my military inclination, it had come in handy. I heard the screams of my people being torn from limb to limb, and I was helpless, unable to save them all. Remembering my mother, I ran back to the Hall of Alphas, hoping to protect her. Pushing aside the flap that served as her door, I ran in only to find an empty room. My mother was gone. Shouting a battle cry at the top of my lungs, I charged out of the room, wielding my bow in the air. I saw red and was ready to maim anything and anyone in my way when I heard my mother call my name from behind me. Her calm voice sent a chill down my spine and I spun on the ball of my heels. My mother was held cap
"What?! You cannot be serious, Father! " I interrupted him loudly, forgetting my place. Rising to my feet, my wolf was enraged by the injustice done against me. She rose to her haunches also, roaming restlessly. I was to be given away to the lycanthrope against my own will."Silence, sister, before you say something you will regret!" My oldest brother, Franco, warned, growling in his throat. I couldn't believe they were going to stand by and watch my father send me into the arms of those monsters. I stared into their eyes, gauging their reactions, but their minds had long been made up. They were on my father’s side."Do not silence me, brother! What have I done? Why me? My father, why did you decide to dictate my destiny? Don't I have the right to choose anymore? "Tears threatened to break through the boundary of my lashes, and I held them off with all my might. Only cowards and wimps cried to get sympathy. I didn't want their sympathy; I wanted due justice."Sister," my other brother
The young woman sitting by me stopped her game and watched me rant in astonishment. When I ran out of angry words, she clapped her hands in succession, and it echoed in the silence."Well said, Princess, but I think someone lied to you, just like they lied to some of them over there," she said, pointing to a point in the room's corner. "Over there in the blue dress is Princess Kit of the Blue Brook Pack. She was given away as an alliance gift to the Lycan King and found herself as a slave here the very next day. Following her is Princess Yvette from the distant pack region of the werecats. She was told that she was to be matched with the Lycan Prince. She has not gotten over the deceit that led to her being here, but she is infatuated with the prince. You will do well to avoid her mostly. "I rubbed my arms, soothing the rough spots from the previous itching, and pondered on all she had said. I was not a gift, but a slave. Then who was she and how did she know all that she did? She mus
