Chapter 8

R I O N A

"You're so useless!" A middle aged woman with blonde hair hissed at me before hitting me.

"Mom, I'm sorry." I cried but she didn't care and kept on hitting me.

"What's going on here? I heard her scream from the living room." My dad barged into the room.

" Daddy!" I cried and rushed over to him giving him a tight hug.

" It's okay Rie, daddy's here now." Dad consoled while patting my back soothingly.

" You're going to spoil her! She deserves to be beaten till death for what she has done!" The woman rushed over to me and tried to pull me away from my dad but my dad struggled back.

" Mariana, the kids are downstairs in tears, why are you doing this?!" My father yelled, trying to reason with her.

" Your ever so precious daughter spent all the money in house because she wanted to buy her useless siblings some fancy toy from the supermarket, now there is no money left!" The lady yelled and pushed me away.

" I'm sorry, Thalia wanted a doll house but I didn't have enough money to buy it for her." I explained but the lady just got more irritated.

" Giving birth to you was a mistake! I wish you and your siblings just died!" She threw her bottle of beer on the ground before storming off.

" Mom!" I screamed and tried to run after her but I stepped on a piece of glass.

" Mom." I whispered as my eyes flutter open.

No. That lady was not my mother.

My hand found Its way to my phone and pressed the home button. The screen flickered on and a photo of my siblings and i was displayed on the lock screen while the time boldly read thirty minutes to eight.

My eyes shot open.

"Shit! Shit! Why didn't anybody wake me?!" I muttered to myself and hurried to get ready.

After hurrying downstairs, I found everybody sitting comfortably in the living room waiting for me I guess.

"You all have some nerve letting me sleep till this time!" I yelled and all their eyes rested on me.

" We knew you'd get up soon, but why didn't you get up though, we called your phone immediately it was seven." Iris defended.

" You can't call me and expect me to hear it because my phone is on silent." I emphasized on the silent.

" Stop it, we are getting late!" Cassidy jumped into the conversation.

" As punishment for not waking me up, school is cancelled today." I proudly informed them.

" Yeah right, why do you have a backpack then?" Cassidy questioned.

" Well you got me! Get your unreliable asses into the car now!" I commanded causing the girls to burst into laughter.

" Keep laughing but do it in the car!" I told them again before they girls started moving to the car.

"And you? Why are you so quiet this morning?" I questioned Thalia who was only silently following the girls.

"Why are you so chatty? You're not a morning person but yet here you are, talking and laughing like someone that is excited about something." Thalia paused and looked at me.

My smile dropped, " Why are you saying that to me?" I asked.

" What wrong Rie? Are you having nightmares again?" Thalia curiously asked and I was taken aback by it.

" Where did you get that idea? I stopped having those a while back." I blatantly lied.

" Are you sure?" She rested her hand on my shoulder.

" Yes! I'm just in a good mood today that's all."

" If you say so."

" Are you guys coming or not?!" Iris yelled from outside.

" Quit yelling Iris!" Cassidy yelled at Iris.

" That's enough girls!" Thalia yelled from the inside as we both walked outside.

Even though we got to Iris and Cassidy to school exactly on time, Thalia and I got to school late.

"I can talk to your art teacher about how you're late because of me." I told Thalia who was rushing to leave the car.

"It's fine, worry about yourself for a change Rie, bye!" She slammed the door of my car shut and ran into the halls.

She's going to destroy this door one day.

I took my time to pack my bag and locked the car before going to my first class.

I pushed the door to my social studies class and found that the class was half empty, but it wasn't surprising, nobody ever makes their first class in this school.

" Take a seat, Miss Davis." Mr Joe informed me.

I nodded and took a seat in the first row so I could hear Mr Joe properly.

Mr Joe was African, his hair was neatly cut, his skin was caramel colored, he is one of the teachers that actually have fashion sense and his classes were never boring. It's just sad that he had to mostly take first periods and most people always miss their first periods.

" You guys will have an assignment." He announced and everyone let out a groan.

Although his classes are always fun, Mr Joe unfortunately enjoys giving his students homeworks.

" Excuse me sir, what about those that aren't here?" A random student asked.

Like that ever stopped him

" You all will have to inform them about this homework because it is going to be half the semester's grade." He politely answered earning more groans.

" Your assignment is going to be done in pairs of two-" he got interrupted by more groans but I joined in this time.

" Let me finish." He ordered the class before silence engulfed the room.

" This is going to be an essay on how first impressions are sometimes never the truth, and that's why you will have a partner you barely talk to as a partner and also you'll write out your first impressions of the person and then after three successful outings, you will write your thoughts about the person after each outing and then, an overall summary of what you think about the person now. That is if your outings confirmed your first impressions of the person or if the person is entirely different from what you thought it was." He explained.

" You all cannot pick your partners." He announced.

" Why is that?" Someone asked.

" Chances are that you will pick a person you already share a great relationship with and that's not what is needed. Which is why I want a list of everyone taking the class by lunch and then I'll have a list sent back here by the end of the day. This is a two weeks project, so you can take your time, but not too much time."

After spending my life not having a social life, one of my favorite teachers is throwing my hard work down the drain.

" That's all for today, have a great day!" He excitedly said before exiting the class.
