There were so many more questions I wanted to ask Rakesh and Edward both, but for now, I knew addressing the manager of the siren was more important. We had found him easily enough and although he put up some minor resistance to being around Rakesh, he finally relented and agreed to talk to us.

"It was a pretty young girl that asked," the goblin was saying now that he was in his true form. This was the first time seeing it and at first, I was surprised, but it was certainly helping me come to terms with the supernatural world.

"Go into more details or I swear I'll hang you by your feet," Rakesh said threateningly although my grandfather managed to keep him from actually going forward with his threats. Watching the poor manager cower was almost pitiful.

I lingered behind them, my headache had only grown worse and now I was feeling a little too warm. We had moved into my grandfather's penthouse for privacy so I knew if I got worse, I could easily take

Morning came too quickly and the headache that plagued me over the night had finally subsided. I had managed to get a small amount of sleep but I still felt a little off. I kept getting hot and cold flashes all night and my grandfather had spent most of the night taking care of me. He finally fell asleep in the chair next to my bed when my fever had calmed.I got up carefully and quietly. The sunshine that managed to sneak into the room made my eyes hurt so I stumbled my way to the bathroom across the way from the room I was in. I took a long drink of water and splashed my face to try and get rid of the sticky sweat from my sleepy face. I felt awful because of the lack of any decent rest.I looked into the mirror to get a look at myself, my hair was a complete mess and my face was pale. Something else was off, but at first, I couldn't figure out what it was. I put it down to the fact that I was just unwell with something and began to try and tidy up my hair. Th

  • Under the Pale Moon   How I met Your Grandmother

Edward settled down on the couch beside me. He rubbed at his wrinkled forehead in thought. "Your grandmother, my wife, she wasn't human," he said quietly and then glanced at Rakesh a moment before back to me. "I don't know what she was, she never explained it to me either. We met when I was much younger," he continued and leaned back into the couch.I nodded slowly. It was a surprise to hear that my other grandmother wasn't human. This was the first time I had heard this, but then again, this was the first time learning I even had other grandparents. I wondered where she was now, if she wasn't human she'd surely be alive still, right? I didn't ask. I was sure I'd find out."It was a fairly dark night and I was driving home in my car after a long shift at my father's company," Edward began to explain to me. "That's when she ran out into the road, she was chased by someone and I suppose she must have seen my headlights and took the risk to dart across to get away

  • Under the Pale Moon   Bad Planning

After that truth-bomb, Edward left the penthouse in order to get to work. He was some CEO or something, I barely paid much more attention to anything else. I was too stunned to really pay much more thought beyond everything that was going through my mind.Rakesh had been oddly quiet after he confessed the truth to me. I was angry, hurt, frustrated and shocked but I couldn't bring myself to blame him for keeping the truth from me. How hard was it on him that those he cared for were being held hostage by his family and he was more or less powerless to fight back or so Edward had tried to explain."Why does she have them?" I asked, only when I was calm enough again. Rakesh had retreated into one of the other bedrooms and refused to come out. I sat down by the door, not sure what else I could do.I could hear Rakesh sigh behind the door. "She doesn't tell me all her plans, she just said something in their blood was needed for some sort of ritual," he rep

  • Under the Pale Moon   Intoxicated

That evening, Edward told me that he had to deal with the second night of the party and that no siren was going to be singing, but if we were to go, to make sure to wear the choker this time. I wasn't sure if I would be able too, but I nodded in agreement. I let Edward go on ahead of me while I waited for Rakesh to wake up. I was feeling perfectly fine now.It took a few hours after the sun had gone down for Rakesh to finally leave the room. He hesitated on seeing me waiting for him."What?" I asked with a tilt of my head as I slipped the choker over my neck. I didn't feel strange about the object. Maybe it was broken, or I hadn't fully turned into... whatever it was I had turned into?Rakesh shook his head slowly and warily moved into the room. "I do not know if anyone at the party will have any further information for us..." he mumbled out. I watched him, puzzled by his sudden new attitude towards me. I guessed he was worried that I was angry at hi

  • Under the Pale Moon   Gravity

I stood alone in that room for a few moments, dazed and completely flustered by what had almost happened between us. Part of me had wanted Rakesh to feast on my blood, with or without that mind-control and that had surprised me. I knew he felt just as surprised by his own desires too. He had never shown any wish to take my blood before so why did he suddenly find himself drawn to do so now? Was it because of the change to my blood?I placed my fingers over the gem which still seemed slightly warm to the touch but after a while, I finally snapped out of my own thoughts. I decided to take a quick shower and covered myself in some of the deodorants that were in the room. I hoped it was enough to mask whatever scent I was giving off. I kept the choker on, as an extra precaution.I left the elevator and glanced around the hotel lobby for a moment. I recalled a few faces here and there and for the most part, people seemed to not even notice me at all. I moved towards

  • Under the Pale Moon   Bond-Partner

My grandfather found me first and he noticed how keen I was searching for Rakesh. He stopped me and gave me a worried look. "Are you sure you're well enough to join the party?" He asked me and I nodded. I felt perfectly fine now. I just wanted Rakesh to be beside me though I didn't voice that need in my heart."I am fine," I said with a smile. "Where is he? I thought he would be down here," I said, trying to not sound too emotional about not finding Rakesh but my heart wouldn't stop beating loudly in my chest. I hoped my grandfather hadn't noticed."He seemed a little distressed so he said he was going to find something to snack on," my grandfather explained. So that's where he had gone. I felt a pang of distress in my chest. I didn't want Rakesh to feast on another but I couldn't explain why. Maybe it was because of my awakened blood? I had to assume so and tried to push the feeling down.My grandfather gave me a strange look and perked up his eyebr

  • Under the Pale Moon   The Whimpering Deer

The scent of blood was strong as I travelled through the alleyways. I noticed several people with dazed looks, anyone else and it would have looked like drunkards asleep there but not to me. Rakesh really was feasting as though he were starving. I was surprised he had been able to hold back from finishing off each person. When I finally found him, he was almost keeled over, holding his mouth and looking rather rabid. I had never seen Rakesh like this before. He was alone and looked like he was going to throw up any second. He noticed me straight away and flashed those silver eyes at me in a warning. "Come no closer," he uttered towards me with a slight feral growl."Rakesh..." I said softly I was worried about him. "Come back to the hotel with me, please?" I asked, not wanting anyone to see him here like this. He looked terrible. Rakesh shook his head at me and uttered another warning growl and his eyes flashed again. I wasn't scared."It's alright,"

  • Under the Pale Moon   Your Name is Like a Golden Bell

Standing on my tip-toes, I pressed my lips against Rakesh's own. I wouldn't let him escape me, not that he tried to resist me in any way, shape or form. His lips parted and I took the initiative, my tongue seeking entrance into his mouth. I heard him give a pleasured moan which spurred me on.I felt Rakesh's hands cling to the back of my waistcoat and I could feel he was giving in to the kiss, his tongue battled mine for dominance for a few seconds before we both pulled away for air. Kissing him was almost hypnotic and now I understood how Rakesh felt when he mentioned how intoxicating it was to have someone's scent so close by."Kayden," my name from his mouth rang like a golden bell. It sounded wonderful. I gave a small hum to show I was listening to Rakesh. "I do not wish to bring harm to you... please, no more, I can't do this..." he murmured weakly.I opened my eyes to study Rakesh's face for a moment. "Why would you bring harm to me? I'm fine i

  • Under the Pale Moon   The Epilogue

A month passed by quickly. My grandfather Edward had been convinced to come to where we were and was rather glad that I was well though he was shocked when he learned the truth of everything. He worried about the other side of my family not accepting me anymore, but otherwise, he was happy to stay with us for a few weeks to help. He and Tudyr seemed to get along well.Eris and DJay had bonded and had started a relationship much to the joy of most of the supernatural beings that had belonged to the group. Only the other Ancient Ones and vampires from the red-eyed family were not fully accepting of the match, but they were well aware they couldn't hassle the pair. Tudyr was very firm about that.Tudyr, of course, bonded with Eris making him the official leader. Their relationship wasn't great but Eris settled down after a couple of days. Though she held her usual spark whenever she disagreed with something he said or did. The two were almost like an old married c

  • Under the Pale Moon   The Bonds that Tie

With Rakesh's fate as my lover sealed, the only thing left was to decide what to do with Eris. Had she not over-taken Rakesh for the leader position when he became unable - it would have meant I would have been the new leader in joint with Rakesh. However, because they had swapped positions, this meant she would need to either bond with me or Tudyr. She was unhappy with either outcome as Tudyr expected. Rakesh didn't want to share me with yet another person and I was not willing to go against Rakesh's wishes but at the same time, I wasn't about to force Eris into bonding with Tudyr if it made her uncomfortable and if it would be easier for her to bond with me.Being Tudyr's second meant that he was a little more lenient and willing to let me take charge of this group of misfits but of course, we were going to let Eris make the choice. Personally, I didn't much care to lead, I just wanted to make sure the fighting was over."I don't want to share him,

  • Under the Pale Moon   Let's Get Down To Business

Eris was surprised to see Rakesh and me enter through the door and in one piece and without an escort. She stopped yelling and marched over to us. Rakesh hid behind me and clung tighter to my shoulders. It was an awkward sight with him being taller than me but I did my best not to laugh. He was genuinely nervous.I gave Eris a small look of warning, it was gentle but commanding enough that she paused in her steps once she got close enough to me. She hesitated, noticing the change in my blood right away. She opened her lips to speak but found herself unable to bring herself to scold us.I looked over to Tudyr who was sitting at Eris' desk with a rather professional look on his face. He nodded at me in greeting and then waited expectantly for us to come further inside the office. It was a command regardless if it had been said or not and thus, I moved over to where the chairs were placed across the desk and facing Tudyr.Rakesh followed me, unwilling t

  • Under the Pale Moon   Never Alone

A while had passed from when Rakesh and I had reaffirmed our bond and he was curled up in my arms, happily resting in my company. We were merely enjoying being near each other again after what seemed like forever. I wasn't even sure how long it had actually been since we had seen one another.I briefly worried about how my grandparents and Rem had not been in contact with me, let alone poor Eddie, for as long. I hoped they would not think this was Rakesh's fault or think I had failed and been killed. Curious, I sent a message to Tudyr about it.'Are you sure it is wise to keep in contact with Hunters? You are no longer human enough for them to care,' he replied through the mind.Rakesh wiggled his nose in annoyance. He still wasn't happy to share me, but he didn't complain. I kissed his forehead in reassurance.'They're my family, if I don't let them know I am well, they will probably gather up the Hunters to come and find me. I don't know

  • Under the Pale Moon   Near to You

After giving Rakesh some time to take in all of the information I had tossed on top of him, we laid on his cot in near silence. He couldn't remember hurting anyone or feasting on flesh and part of him didn't want to remember it. There were so many thoughts running through his mind but he couldn't find the answers to any of them just yet."It'll be alright, probably," I offered as I felt his mind fretting again. "I mean, Tudyr isn't going to kill us, just bring us into his fold, so things could be a lot worse, right?" I gave Rakesh a small smile."Only because of dumb luck that you're of his blood. Though in truth, I am surprised he wants you, you not being fully blooded..." Rakesh trailed off. "Or are you now? Though now I wonder why did my blood not do that for you?"I looked up thoughtfully. Tudyr wasn't exactly invading my mind at all as he had wanted to give me and Rakesh space - but that didn't mean he had blocked himself out of my thoughts. I s

  • Under the Pale Moon   Sleeping Beauty Awakens

With everything I had gone through lately, I was exhausted. It didn't matter if I had been unconscious for a while, that wasn't exactly resting. I watched Rakesh from where I laid on my cot. He seemed peaceful despite the fact that he had also been through so much.I reached out to him with my mind and although I didn't get a worded reply, there was a sense of warmth that surrounded me as Rakesh sensed me. That was enough to soothe my fears and the feelings of being isolated from him for so long finally seemed to melt away and I could truly relax and bathe in the bond we shared.I fell asleep listening to the beating of hearts inside my mind. It was still strange that I could sense it no matter where the bonded one was, but it was even stranger now that there were three of them. Still, it was a relaxing sound and quite the lullaby to listen to.A few hours must have ticked by as I sensed Rakesh stirring awake. My own eyes flickered open and I slowly

  • Under the Pale Moon   Like Stealing Candy

The beating of my heart was loud and swift in my chest as I felt Tudyr's fingers tickle my neck while he brushed my hair out of his way. My eyes closed and my head tilted slightly to the side as I anxiously anticipated him feasting on my blood. It wasn't a sexual experience like it had been with Rakesh, but it was still somehow exciting to me.We were already somewhat bonded due to the family blood we shared, but this was much more than just a vague feeling. It felt as though my whole body was aching for us to be fully bonded. I wondered if it was indeed just this reason why it felt so right? Or maybe it was more a servant and master connection? In the end, I guessed it didn't matter too much. I had agreed to share a bond with Tudyr.I let out a pleased sound from my throat as I felt his fangs pierce the skin of my neck. That familiar sound of two hearts joining and beating as one echoed through my ears and mind. The sound was lo

Tudyr watched me painfully mull over my options which only made me feel further pressured. Finally, I asked, my fingers holding onto my neck tightly, "what if I say no? What would happen to them?""I have no use for families that do not submit to the First," Tudyr said harshly but with no malice within his voice. "I will spare your life, only because you are one of mine, but like those of the red-eyes, Rakesh and his sister must submit or they will die.""And why do you need me for that? You could just ask them yourself..." I uttered, glancing away.Tudyr gave me a long look before he replied, "Eris will never submit and Rakesh has bonded with you, I cannot force him into anything without your permission. The same was true for Eris with you and him, is that not correct?"I gave a thoughtful frown and then nodded slowly. "I thought that was for all Ancient Ones... but you said... my blood was your right?" I looked back to Tudyr with the sam
