The man smiled and nodded in agreement taking another step back. He hoped they would hurry time really is not on their side right now. Only then did Brayden let Lilly pass to go out the door. He watched as the man slowly closed the door locking it as if he planned on returning later in the day. Lilly started to descend the stairs but could feel the mixed vibes of amusement and annoyance from behind her.
'Brayden is going to get us all killed if he keeps acting like this. I can't believe my mom just left us with some strange guy without saying anything. What the hell!' Lilly was grumbling to herself in her mind about the whole situation when she heard Brayden laugh.
Lilly quickly turned to see his face red from trying to hold on to his laughs but failed, the utter look of confusion on her face only caused him to laugh harder. She glanced at the man named Ivan who looked just as confused. Before Lilly was able to ask what Brayden problem was she heard his voice in a soft whisper, 'She doesn't even know she was bitching about everything out loud like she's the only one confused. And I'm over here thinking about them saying she looks like her mom but Lilly looks nothing like Claire! So obviously something is up but like usual I have to get both their asses out of this mess and back into safety. At least Lilly has a nice ass.' This made a smile spread across his face until he saw Lilly glaring at him, only causing him to smirk as a response. 'There is that Im'ma kill you look. Oh, girl if only you knew how adorable that makes your face instead of intimidating anyone.'
Lilly’s glare quickly fell when she realized Brayden had said all of this without moving his mouth once. A quickly look up to Ivan made her realize he hadn’t heard a single word Brayden just said. But she knew his voice, it was what haunted her heated dreams making her feel guilty for dreaming of her cousin in such a manner but also made her feel safe. Another fit of laughter came from Brayden he was sucking in big gulps of air to calm down.
'Brayden get your shit together you probably look like a dumbass right now.' Again his voice came across her eyes but his mouth didn’t move once.
"Brayden you're sitting here talking in the third person and saying I'm over here bitching. I haven't said a damn word." Lilly was furious of course she had thought of both Ivan and James saying she looked like her mother. She had unintentionally raised her voice from Brayden's insults, but couldn’t hold it in anymore. It is one thing to insult her within the walls of their current home, but out in public infront of a total stranger no less. With these words, Brayden's face drained of all color and then quickly reddened as he replayed his last unspoken words.
Ivan exhaled as if irritated but his face almost showed amusement from the encounter going on before his eyes. As Ivan stepped forward he almost pushing the now fully flushed Brayden down the stairs while gently grabbing Lilly's arm. He quickly asked in a hushed whisper, "Is this the first you two have spoken through a mind link?"
Ivan glanced from Brayden to Lilly waiting for their answer. Their expressions were answered enough as Lilly and Brayden looked at each other thinking at the same time, 'What the hell is a mind link?'
“I’ll take your silence as a yes, we can talk in the car.” Ivan paused before releasing the two at the bottom of the stairs before he looked around and nodded as if gesturing for the two to continue.
‘I’m not getting in some car with a total stranger, who does he think he is?’ Lilly couldn’t help but think as she slowly began walking in the direction of where Ivan had gestured.
‘Lil.’ Brayden’s voice came across Lilly’s mind causing a shiver to come across her entire body just from the nickname only Brayden was allowed to call her. She glanced to him as if telling him to continue. ‘I don’t think Claire is your mother.’
‘No shit.’ Lilly muttered in her mind while rolling her eyes.
‘I also don’t think you’re my cousin.’ Brayden’s words had Lilly freezing in her tracks before looking at him causing him to also stop in his tracks. ‘At least now that you know how I feel I sure as hell how we’re not related or this is going to get more awkward than it already was.’
Ivan didn’t wait for the two that has paused in the middle of the walkway to have their private conversation. He continued to the front door before looking outside and nodding at someone outside. “Well, I believe our ride is here.”
Brayden and Lilly looked up to see a white Mercedes-Benz waiting for them to enter. Taking Lilly’s hand Brayden asked, “Do you trust me?”
“What?” Lilly asked as if confused, and experiencing a deja-vu moment.
“Do you trust me?” Brayden again asked circling his thumb on the top of her hand.
“Always.” Was the last thing Lilly said before they finally made their way into the back of the car.
The car drove in silence. James sat in the front with Ivan. Ivan would occasionally glance toward Claire who would blush and then they would both look away. Lilly felt grossed out and awkward watching as the woman she thought to be her mother, until an hour ago, almost undress the man in the front with her eyes. After all Lilly couldn’t really blame her, the man was over the top hot. Every so often Lilly would think something about it being weird or the silence was so thick it could be cut with a knife. Which would be followed by Brayden making a sound as if agreeing, stifling a laugh or grunting at whatever Lilly thought. Normally the grunts were whenever she thought of Ivan and his large muscles, or noticed a nice looking man outside the car. It took awhile before Lilly realized Brayden was hearing every thought, so she decided to have a little fun at one point.
‘Huh, that guy is pretty cute. I wonder if he’s single.’ Watching Brayden she noticed as he stifled a groan and rolled his eyes, she couldn’t figure out how to get him out of her mind so she was going to torture him like he had done to her this morning. With that she thought of how he had unwillingly admitted his true feelings for her, and she had to agree that it was becoming difficult to view him as family. Now leaning her head against the window as if pretending to be tired so she could his every move she continued her internal monolgue. ‘I mean he doesn’t look as big as Ivan but damn I bet under that shirt he’s built.’
Having to hold in a laugh Brayden formed fists with both his hands before rolling his head to pretend like he was popping his neck. He was listening and she was enjoying the torment she was causing him.
‘I bet he’s pretty good in bed. Man I wonder what it would feel like in his arms.’ Now she was letting herself think things she had been suppressing for years, if they’re not family she isn’t going to hide it either. Realizing Lilly could tell him all her wants without having to actually say it out loud she decided to tell him. ‘I can almost feel his callused hands slowly making their way down my heated body as I run my hands up his chest and up into his hair.’
Lilly bit her lip seeing the reaction she was getting as Brayden took his fists and folding his arms. Looking up to the side of his face she saw him tighten his jaw at her next words, only causing her to continue. ‘Our lips locking in a long awaited embrace, the heat of the moment taking over. His hands slowly coming to the end of my shirt finding their way underneath skin on skin. The heat of his hands warming my soul, blazing my core before we break apart to breath. Clothes finding their way to the floor before our lips lock again in a needy embrace.’
Brayden’s jaw was getting tighter as if he were trying not to jump the imaginary person in Lilly’s thoughts. His face finally fully looking out the window as if looking to see who she was thinking about. He was jealous and she knew it, the best part was his jealousy was of himself in a dream she once had. The thought of the dream used to make her feel sick but right now she couldn’t help but share it with him. Opting to continue she finally got to the part that she knew would make him squirm.
‘I can almost feel his hands again roaming down to pull my up into a straddle while we kiss forcing me to wrap my legs around his torso. No words need to be said as he carrys me to a bed laying me down before breaking the kiss long enough to ask permission. Of course I would say yes.’ The last thought has Brayden again moving his head to the side before he breaths in a deep and shallow breath. ‘I would watch as he slowly remove the remainder of my clothing as his own before he slowly kissed his way up my entire body.’
Brayden moved his leg now shifting as if he were suddenly uncomfortable but still refused to look at Lilly, or anywhere but outside his window. Lilly again fought the urge to laugh or make a sound, everyone needed to think she was asleep.
‘As he finally makes his way up to both my lips he would pause to stare into my eyes as if again asking if I am sure. Again wrapping my legs around him torso causing his member to be right on my entrance I would whisper as softly as I could, take me Brayden.’ Lilly watched as Brayden’s whole body stiffened and then he began to cough on his own spit. Reaching for a bottle from Claire he thanked her before gulping it down. Through a side glance Lilly could see the desire in his eyes, but also with an unspoken promise.
‘Not funny.’ Was all Brayden finally said before again shifting positions and again looking out his window.
‘Thought you might want to hear about some of the dreams I’ve had.’ Lilly said putting as much seriousness in the tone of her mindlink as she could. Brayden’s head snapped looking over to Lilly before he smirked.
‘Well, then by all means why don’t you continue.’ He said again shifting, as if testing her previous statement.
‘Nah you look kind of uncomfortable.’ Lilly said before sitting up straight and stretching before she asked. “James where are we going and how much longer do we have?”
“Honestly it’ll be a bit, we’ve got to cross through a few barriers on the edges of the different galaxies before we can jump to the castle.” James said before making a sharp left.
“But it will probably be longer than planned because we’ll need to make sure we aren’t being followed first.” Ivan said before looking to Claire in the mirror causing her to blush and he suddenly shifted in his seat as well.
‘Well, I guess that means you have all the time in the world.’ Brayden said almost teasing Lilly through their link.
Instead of speaking Lilly decided to stretch placing her legs across Brayden’s lap. She was sure to remove her shoes before doing so and then said, “Since you were such a dick this morning why don’t you make it up by giving me a foot massage.”“Lilliana!” Claire said out of total shock from Lilly’s language.“Claire, until I know what’s going on I would prefer you not use the name my parents gave me. I don’t really like that name please call me Lilly.” Lilly said with a small smile before she felt Brayden actually start rubbing her feet, she looked over to him before she half smiled.“You told me to.” Brayden said with a small shrug before adding only for her. ‘You really think I’m going to turn down touching you after what you just put me through?’‘You deserved it!’ Lilly said trying to fight back a moan from the pleasure she was receiving from a simple foot rub.“Claire.” James said from the driver’s seat, to which Claire only hummed. “You said they lost their memory.”“Yes?” Clair
Claire had to hold back a smile, the kid was too mature for his age. When he acted all macho like this she couldn't help but laugh at his innocence. Shaking her head and holding up her hand as if to silence him she just began speaking casually before he was able to start. "As always my dear you have all the questions. But as always I can only answer a few as I do not know all. However, your father and my mate Ivan may have answers I do not." Claire's smile beamed speaking of Ivan and then she blushed and smacked Ivan's arm.Well, that was kind of easy, some answers down. Brayden thought of where to go from here. Obviously, Claire was not Lilly's mother maybe start there? He looked over to Lilly as she stirred in the seat shifting so her head was now on the back of the seat. She slowly started to fall until he finally grabbed her and placed her across the seat with her head in his lap. This reminded him of her attempt to torture him earlier causing the blood to quickly flow back down t
The sleep filling in Lilly’s eyes finally subsided along with the panic from the abrupt awakening and she nodded her head. Lilly looked around seeing they were at a beautiful cabin by a lake deep inside a heavily wooded forest. Her eyes widened as she realized they were alone and Brayden was still holding her wrists. A weird feeling filled her stomach as warm sensations pulsed from where Brayden was touching her. He followed her gaze to his hands and then quickly released her mumbling an apology. As much as he wanted to touch her they needed to talk, and he doubted she expected to wake to them being alone. With the sudden release of her wrists Lilly’s stomach returned to normal but her skin suddenly felt like it had been touched with ice for too long. Brayden outstretched his hand to her while saying, "Come on let's go check this place out. My dad said it's heavily protected so you're good to actually practice your magic or freak out and not worry about attracting attention." He adde
Lilly looked up to see him staring at her almost with a look of adoration and her face flushed with panic so she quickly asked. "Okay, so what about Claire and my mom?""Right! So Claire is mated or married to Ivan. Ivan is apparently some big shot warrior who is cousins with my dad, and adopted siblings with my mom? So technically not related to you at all. In all reality, Claire is actually only 7 years older than us. Explains why she looks so young for being your mother! Do you remember from before my parents dropped me off with you and Claire?"Lilly chose not to speak and just shook her head signaling for Brayden to continue. "Well you actually lived with Claire and your mom until there was an... um... 'accident'. We were only 5 at the time or well that time around, so telling you that Claire was really your mom you didn't question it. But I remembered having a different mom than you so Claire said we were cousins." Brayden paused looking to Lilly to make sure she was following b
Withdrawing from the link knowing Brayden had made it to Ivan and James Lilly decided to let herself enjoy the warm bath Brayden had started for her. Sinking in she felt everybody tense then relax from the heat assaulting her every muscle. Going through the plan in her head she realized they would have to pull Frank. Years ago she lightly mentioned needing someone at the in-between to keep tabs on Esteban. Little did she know Frank had volunteered and left before she was able to delegate anyone for the decision. Without making it a known decision many had come to believe Frank was a traitor, in order to prevent his cover from being blown she didn’t say a single word. However, she knew the pain he was put through because of the few times they had run into each other over the years. For every time he had let them go Esteban taught Frank a lesson. It pained her to know he was suffering so much just to keep her safe, and when she tried running away to live a normal life. Before long the t
Red.Just the color red, deep blood red burning hot. Lilly's sight was like someone covered her eyes with a red piece of paper. A chill ran down Lilly's spine as she felt her body move of its own accord. Moving up from the bench by the lake and pulling her forward. Her legs moved to bring her closer to where she imagined the lake would be. Mates? What are they, werewolves in some messed-up fairytale? War since 1917? They're in the twenty-first century! This is a dream she's still asleep in her room asleep with that loveable loser on the floor.Wait.... loveable? Is Brayden loveable in a way other than platonic love? Lilly felt her legs falter and a smoke-like hew grow in her vision as she inches closer to the water's edge. Her mind itched like someone was tickling it, but how could some reach her brain? The beautiful s
Brayden made his way down the hall to where he remembered his parent's room had been. The door flung open and a dark chocolate skin toned woman smiled with absolute joy flowing out of her. Brayden gazed at the small fragile woman before meeting her caramel eyes. He saw the brown ring slowly turn around her caramel circles before tears filled her eyes. "Hi, mom." That was all Brayden could say before he was pulled into the room. "Sit sit. Have you eaten? James... your father... sorry it's just been too long. I know how you've been but please tell me you know I can't truly see everything. Where did Lilliana go, weren't you too just out by the lake? Don't tell me Miriam took her away! You two have just as much processing as we mothers have a want for catching up." Brayden just waited for her to take a breath before he answered.
‘Where are you?’ The words rang in Lilly's mind as she stood staring at the man who had helped create her. Also remembered he was the one who had almost made her lose her life, more than once. The man laying on life support before her was no more than a sperm donor in her eyes. He was never there when she needed him and everytime she needed him the most, he tried to kill her and everyone close to her. Nia... the pain-filled her from the core almost as if the incident had just happened. Why did that memory have to take this long to come back, when everything else came rushing back at the lake. ‘Lil... Lilly! Lilliana, I need you to tell me where you are. Now!’ Brayden was panicking which he had every right to. If he isn't close enough when things go wrong ev
"I put you in his hell and I am the ONLY one that will ever be able to get you out." The words echoed through Miriam as she came to a stop. She knew that voice had to be Lilly but she couldn’t dare look to see who she was talking to. With a bright flash, everything was slowly fading to the darkness around her and a thicker chill began to fill the air. Crouching down to the ground and attempting to make herself small Miriam attempted to focus on the sounds around her. She could only hear silence, no wind, no birds or animals scurrying along the forest floor. How could such a place exist?“I know you’re out there sweetheart.” Miriam’s entire body shivered from the sweetening voice of her memories, a much simpler time. Refusing to let her emotions take the better of her Miriam chose to burrow herself into a tree. “Daddy will always find you, no matter what.”Miriam wanted to reply to him and state how much she hated him but knew that’s what he wanted. She waited for anything, breathing,
Without a word from the group the small group made their way to the barn to continue their conversation. Lilly slowly looked around for Brayden and the girls to ensure Jessica was still with them. “I already linked her and told her what was going on.” James said from behind Lilly as if reading her mind. “Brayden took the girls to get ice cream, we really should hurry I don’t think Claire will last longer than 2 hours. She has a high pain tolerance but I counted 3 contractions only minutes apart while you and Ivan had your stare down.” “Okay, it’s best we get this out of the way anyway.” Lilly said following Ivan and Frank into the barn. She came to find Frank attempting to whisper to Ivan asking what what going on, before James cleared his throat. “I know us coming unannounced kind of puts a damper on your family plans, or unplanned family events, but we need to get this conversation over with in about 30 minutes so you can see your child’s birth.” James said as he made his way to a
"He's not going to be happy with you when he discovers this plan." James says lowly as he catches up to Lilly."He already knows the plan." Lilly says as they make their way out of the field and to a little farmhouse."How does he know the plan?" James asked in total shock."The same way you and Jessica know the plan." Lilly spoke as if they were speaking of the time of day."But Jessica just had the vision this morning?" James said as they came to the farmhouse door and he knocked."Brayden saw this day and conversation happening the day before Nia was born." Lilly said taking in a deep breath. "I've known this day and conversation was going to happen for awhile. However, I think I am going to change part of it and he won't know until after.""Am I allowed to know the change in plan?" James said trying to read Lilly's hints. Before Lilly was able to give a full answer the door opened to a surprised Ivan. "It's early is it not?""I feel the an
Stepping through another blinding portal Brayden finally find his voice just as the wind picked up and started blowing Lilly's hair into his face. "You are going to tell me what's going right?"Lilly laughed as she pulled her hair from Brayden's face while saying, "Would I ever hide anything from you?""Lilly you basically have been since the moment I realized I lost myself, but you knew where everyone was." Brayden could feel his fear seeping in not knowing where exactly Nia was. The fact he had lost everyone for 2 full weeks was beginning to weigh him more than he expected."Son everything will be fine." Jessica said coming forward to pat his arm."Trust in those that you love and all will work out." James said shortly following Jessica to Brayden's side. With those words the wind began to fade and their eyes adjusted to the sun's rays."Of course I trust you all, I'm worried about myself. How could I got 2 weeks not knowing what was going on, and think the fake you
"Where have you been the last 2 weeks?" Brayden said to Lilly and she only stopped to look around her. The confusion didn't leave Brayden, he was just as confused he thought he was just talking to his grandfather."Where's my mom?" Lilly said, without waiting for an answer she quickly turn to run up the stairs to their apartment."Lilly!" Brayden yelled running after her only to stop at the open door of their apartment. "Lilly, what's gotten..""That's not my mom," Lilly said watching the woman sitting on the couch staring at the blank wall."I know?" Brayden said as if they had already discussed this. But they hadn't, how did he know that wasn't Miriam?"She's in the in-between," Lilly said turning to Brayden holding out the necklace for him to see she was also there. They both stared at the shining metal in her hand before Brayden broke the silence."How?" Brayden asked taking the necklace between his fingers. The only time he has seen this sword is when Lilly uses it in his dreams
"Mom!" Lilly yelled back to Miriam every time she heard her mother yell her name. Suddenly the yelling stopped, and everything became too quiet. Nerves were all over the place as Lilly pushed herself through the forest. The familiarity of this darkness was too unreal and seemed too similar to Brayden's most recent dream."There you are." The deep voice from behind Lilly had her freezing in her tracks. Holding what breath was left in her lungs she forced herself to face the voice she had only ever heard in her dreams."Why am I here?" Lilly forced out the moment her eyes locked onto the red glowing eyes before her."Ah right to the point." An evil sneer came across the man's lips as he stops walking a mere 20 feet from her. "Esteban I'm not playing any games, what do you want?" Lilly says reaching for her bracelet only to realize it was not there."Oh come now you really think I would let you bring that in here?" He says smirking before adding, "You really should respect your elders y
"Liliana!" Miriam ran frantically into the darkened forest, what just happened? She was just with her daughter and son-in-law and now she's in a forest alone? Frantic thoughts and panic filled her every bone. "Liliana! Brayden!""You won't find them." A low voice just above a whisper blurts out from behind her.Miriam quickly turns only to see more trees in every direction. Her panic must be playing tricks on her, the only way to find her family now is with magic. But if she uses her power it will attract her father to her. Exhaling deeply Miriam continues to trudge through the ever-darkening forest. Soon it will become so dark she will not be able to see the uplifted roots before she trips on them."Want to see why I brought you here?" The voice again feels so much closer, there is no way Miriam only hearing things."Who are you?" Miriam finally stops and just listens without attempting to look for the owner of the voice."Oh, dear Miriam." The voice lets out a sickening laugh before
"Alright fine, I'd just hate for such a pretty thing such as yourself to get hurt." Mark said with a slight wink."Not in this lifetime Mark." Lilly said grabbing onto Brayden's side both to pulling strength and keep him by her side."Well if you ever need to be satisfied I'm in room 206." Mark said licking his lips."Oh trust me if I ever get that desperate I'm better off dead." Lilly said before then watching the color drain from Mark's face.Unable to think of a comeback Mark turned and hurried down the hall to his family's apartment."God the last two weeks he has been on my ass." Brayden said exhaling the air he had been trying to keep in."Why two weeks?" Lilly said releasing his hand and continuing up the stairs."Oh we've been here for two weeks before you guys." Brayden said casually, "It's no biggy I've jumped and landed in the space before you a few times remember?""Right, I just didn't realize it was two weeks." Lilly said faintly
"No matter what you say I will not risk anyone's life," Brayden quickly closed the distance as he spoke. "Especially your life. For something as simple as a pastry, no matter how delicious they maybe.""I get you're trying to be all macho right now, and possibly turn me on but I am actually really upset about the orange rolls." Lilly looked into Brayden's eyes trying to hold in her own laughter at the ridiculous conversation."So you admit that this is turning you on." Brayden asked leaning in closer to Lilly forcing her heart to race."You would take that part out of everything I said and turn it on me." Lilly rolled her eyes trying to hold back the blood from rushing to her face. "My point is they were the first ones Nia got to help me make, ever. I couldn't even try them.""Look I will go out and buy the ingredients right now and we can make some. Maybe the familiar flavor will help my mom's memory." Brayden said looking to the entrance to their hideout.
