KILLIAN

I was nervous coming here, knowing how Lucy and I left it. It's no simple thing to let your mate and Luna leave your pack. Where you can't protect her, you can't see and touch her every day. I knew she needed to go, but it didn't hurt any less, not that I would let anyone know that. We had to come to the Bennet pack for the birth of Lanie and Axel's twins. We also had to discuss protection detail on the twins and Lanie. The twins would grow to be more powerful than any supernatural in our world. If the wrong person got their hands on them, it could be the destruction of our world as we know it. 

Axel and Maddox were going on about the plans they had. I really didn't need to be here; Maddox was the one person I trusted most in this world, and he was a genius strategist and battle-prevention planner. He's why we had such a large pack and why we won every battle we entered. 

"Killian?" Shit, I was caught!

"What do you think?" 

"Sounds good! It looks like you thought of everything. I need a cup of coffee." I stood, patted Maddox on the back and went to find my mate. I knew Lucy was training, so I thought I'd make lunch and take it out to her. I made my way to the kitchen. Walking past the nursery, I could hear faint crying. I stopped in, and Lanie was asleep in the chair with baby Violet, and baby Asher was fussing in his crib. I really didn't know much about babies. But I felt led to pick him up. As I was reaching into the crib, Ellen stopped me. 

"Alpha, you can touch the babies without ingesting these herbs first." 

"what? Why? I was being gentle." 

"did Axel not fill you in on the babies?" I felt dumb, shit. I wasn't listening to what he said. 

"I may have been distracted during that conversation." 

"haha, I can't imagine what you'd be distracted by." She nudged my shoulder and winked at me. 

"So, are you going to fill me in?" She was holding baby Asher and cooing at him. 

"The babies have both magic powers and wolves. Violet is a siphon. She can take all the magic in your body, siphoning the power from your wolf, silencing him for a while until you recover naturally since you'll have no magic to help you. Asher can siphon, but it's not his only source of power. He will be a very powerful warlock, especially now being the firstborn male Benett for the last 1000 years. All the firstborn Bennet wolves were female. Obviously, there were males born but not firstborn. Hence why The Bennet pack has a Luna and not an Alpha until she finds her mate." I miss the days when wolves stayed in their packs and vampires and witches stayed in their covens—mixing all these species made life a lot more complicated. 

"Got it, don't touch babies or no wolf." I sighed, scrubbed a hand over my face and went to make lunch. 

Scanning through the cupboards looking for something to put together, Lucy would need some carbs after her workout. I got to work fixing all the ingredients for baked parmesan chicken and spaghetti. I knew the smell of the chicken would draw Lucy into the kitchen. My darling mate was addicted to food. I was lost in thought when Liza came in and started making tea. 

"Alpha Killian." She nodded her head as she walked to the coffee machine. She always made me uncomfortable. I don't know if it's her power or the fact that she is Lucy's real family, and I want her to like me. 

"How did training go?" I awkwardly tried to make conversation.

"Good." Before I could say anything else, Lucy walked in. she walked right up to me and snaked her arms around my neck, resting her petite frame in the crook of my neck. 

"Lunch smells incredible." She smiled without opening her eyes, wholly relaxed in my arms. I stayed there frozen in time and space-loving every minute with my mate in this simple moment. When the timer goes off, I pull away from Lucy, and she groans until I dish her up a plate of food and make got some coffee. I could watch her do just about anything all day long. I drank my coffee and then started on my meal. I listened to Lucy talk about training and everything she was learning. After seeing how excited she was, I felt better about our decision for her to come here and harness her abilities. Axel, Maddox, Lannie and Ellen join us halfway through. Axel and Maddox caught me up on the plan for the twins. Ellen explained the new protocol with touching the twins. She suppressed their abilities for the time being, but as they grow, she will need to monitor their power and see how their abilities progress. 

Lucy looked exhausted, so I suggested we go and take a nap. She always sleeps better in my arms anyway. 

AXEL

It was nice having Killian around to cook and look after Lucy and Maddox to bounce ideas off. He was the best strategist around, that's for sure. After deciding, we would build a bunker behind the packhouse in case of an invitation and doubling the guard surrounding the packhouse. No one but the eight of us would know of the twin's abilities, and that would keep them safe for now. I still needed to meet with my father and half-brother. Someone I was really dreading but had to be done. There was a knock at my office door. 

"Come in," I shouted without looking up from the laptop. 

"Hello, Brother," Victoria smirked at me.

"Victoria! I was actually just thinking about you!" I laughed. 

"Of course you were, I am awesome, and you were missing me." 

'Ya! I was. How are you? Are you here to stay?" 

"I am a good brother. I am here to stay and protect the Bennet Luna." she bowed her head. 

"Great! Let's get you set up in your room." 

"All in good time, brother, sit we need to discuss father and his failing mental health." 

"Okay... what's going on." 

"Father has gone mad in a sense. He thinks you and Ellen were just born, and he needs to find you and bring you home. I have him sedated and on a 24-hour watch. He isn't Alpha anymore, Damon is, but he does still have loyal guards who will do whatever he asks. You must be cautious whenever you leave the territory and never leave the twins unattended by anyone you may not trust. "

"Okay, how worried should I be?" 

"He has access to witches, warlocks, Oracles, vampires. There isn't a supernatural who doesn't owe him some sort of favour. You will need to increase your security. I can help Ellen with a barrier spell."

"Thank the Moon Goddess you came when you did."

"I spent most of my life trying to find you. It was in my favour you were mated to the Bennet Luna."

"Let's get you settled in. I know Ellen has been waiting for you to return since you left."
