At Tirion Kindergarten, the president of the parents' committee was the leader for the entire grade. Hence, other committee members representing other classes had shown up as well.

Yvette had gotten to know a few of them, but not all. Those with some wealth had been summoned by Marlene to discuss partnerships.

That explained why Anne had belatedly heard about the planned betrayal—since her husband had already declared bankruptcy, Marlene wasn't interested in talking to her. Marlene did not care about the votes of the few poor parents in school.

Before the voting started, Marlene marched up to Yvette and openly challenged her, "Yvvy, do you think a disabled person could perform the job of the president of the parents' committee?"

Then, she pointed at the hearing aid in Yvette's ear. She added, "What happens if your hearing aid breaks when someone is speaking? Are we all going to wait until you get a new one?"
