Xavier really didn't want to be in a fight with Yvette anymore. However, he was still upset because he'd been lied to for so long.

"What if I am? Are you afraid?" he asked.

Yvette was stunned. Clearly, she didn't expect him to ask her that. If it had been in the past, he would've done something else to interrogate her, given his bad temper.
