CHAPTER 2
HEAVEN
I didn't know when the tears started streaming down my cheeks. All thanks to the rain. Why must rainfall at this time make me feel more miserable? I wanted to remain strong until the end. I wanted to be okay with everything but I guess I was human after all.
I had no choice but to stay at the estate security's shade waiting for the rain to stop. I couldn't enter and risk being given a pitiful look. I couldn't hail a cab at that moment since it was always difficult to see cabs in the area. The network was fluctuating so it was really hard to book a ride.
Even if I eventually booked a ride, I had no idea where to go. Should I return to my parents in the countryside? How will I survive without any job?
I had lived the past three years as a housewife fully dependent on Atlas. It had started after the doctor claimed I needed to stop working due to the pregnancy but then after feeling a bit better, I had resumed work and ended up losing the pregnancy. Atlas blamed me and ever since that time, I stopped working.
I was left with nothing now. I just felt so miserable.
I was still thinking about the next step in my life when a white sedan car pulled over in front of me. I lifted my brows wondering what if one of the reporters had stalked me to this extent but then someone got out of the car and I let out a huge sigh of relief.
Raquel. And her boyfriend, Kyle.
I met them when I went skydiving a month ago and ever since then, Raquel and I had gotten closer.
"My gosh! Heaven, are you okay?"Raquel rushed to me with wide eyes, worry written all over her.
"Let's get you out of here,"I heard Kyle say as he rushed to help carry my things.
I couldn't bring myself to say anything. The tears just kept on overflowing as Raquel pulled me into a hug. We remained in that position until Kyle announced he was done packing.
I got into the backseat with Raquel as Kyle started the car.
"Thank you,"my voice finally came back as I sniffed.
Raquel turned to me with a tight-lipped smile.
"It's fine. Hope you're feeling better?"She inquired and I shook my head.
"Were you guys just passing by or..."
She shook her head.
"We were actually going on a date but then we heard the news. I called you several times but you weren't picking. I feared something happened so we had to rush down here,"she explained and I forced a small smile.
Even though we've only been friends for a month, I could see how much she cared about me. She was really a nice person and I was grateful for her.
As I opened my mouth to thank her, the ring from my phone stopped me. I decided to pick this time when Jenna's name appeared on the screen.
"Heaven, where did you put your phone all this while?"Her voice came from the other end with worry etched in her tone.
"It was in my bag."
"Goodness! I've been calling all this while. I heard the news. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine."
"I've always known Atlas isn't to be trusted. He never deserved you. You should have dumped his ass after you lost the baby,"she shouted over the phone and my heart dropped.
I should have known that was when everything started falling apart. I should have realised that one thing that tied us together wouldn't last forever.
Everything started after I lost the pregnancy three months after our wedding.
"I've always been against that marriage, and it was just a matter of time before you guys ended things but it was so insensitive of him to announce your divorce at the award. Did you guys agree on that?"Jenna questioned, her voice slicing through my thoughts.
"No."
"Wow, Atlas is just so cruel. Anyway, when are you finalising the divorce ? I believe you should ask for a huge alimony,"she said and I biy on my lower lips.
"We finalized things already. I've left there."
"What!"She shouted so much that I had to move the phone away from my ears for a few seconds.
"You mean you left without any court case? Without collecting your own share?"
"Everything just happened so fast."
"Oh my goodness, Heaven, this isn't right. Where are you going to stay now that you left there? You don't even have a house or a job? Should I just come over? Are you still at the estate or..."
I cut her short. "I'm not at his place and no, you don't need to come over."
"So, where are you now?"
"I'm with Raquel."
"Oh, you're abandoning me for her now?"She teased. I knew it was intended as a joke but I couldn't find any humor in it.
Jenna was my childhood friend and there was no way I would abandon her. Going to her place would have been the best option but she lived in a tiny studio with her boyfriend.
"Can we talk later?"I asked, a sneeze escaping from my nose.
"Are you okay?"Raquel asked in concern and I bobbed my head but then I realised how heavy my head was. Looks like I was developing a headache due to crying earlier.
"Sure. Take care of yourself and keep me updated."She ended the call before I could reply.
I glanced at Raquel who smiled at me.
"You can stay at my place till whenever you like,"she said, answering the nagging thoughts in my head since I left the estate.
"Thank you. I'm so grateful. You too, Kyle." I touched the back of the driver's seat and he glanced at me through the mirror.
"You're welcome,"they both said in unison and I leaned on the window.
I wasn't sure of how to go after this. I had no idea of how to plan my life. All I knew was that I had to move forward and survive one way or the other.
The rest of the ride was a quiet one and it didn't take long before we arrived at Raquel's place.
As we stepped out of the car, my head started throbbing. I knew I was developing a headache due to everything that happened but then I started feeling dizzy.
I found myself struggling to breathe and before I knew it, I was slipping to the ground. I felt a hand trying to catch me but it was too late.
Everything went black and I was gone.
CHAPTER 3HEAVENThis day has got to be the most shocking and eventful one of my life.I woke up to a faint beeping sound. My eyelids felt like they were weighed down with bricks, but I managed to crack them open, only to be greeted by the sterile white of a hospital room. My head throbbed, the dull ache a stark reminder of everything I had been through. The events of the day came rushing to my head."You're awake."I turned my head to see Raquel sitting on a chair beside the bed. Kyle left the room that time obviously to get the doctor."I fainted?" I asked slowly, like it wasn't evident enough."Yeah, you've been out for hours now. Thank God you're back. The doctor says it's due to exhaustion and stress," she said, and I let out a sigh. Of course, I had to be affected by everything I went through that day, but never did I expect the next thing."Also... there's something you need to know," she announced, her brows stretching. It sounded so serious, and I had to sit up."Is somethi
CHAPTER 4HEAVENIt's been three weeks since I've left the country to tour our stores in other countries and I just couldn't wait to meet my family again and my kids. The past five years have been the best and I couldn't hope for anything better."You have a gala to attend in the next two hours and the award show later in the night," Jenna, my best friend turned secretary announced beside me and I glanced at her."I didn't know about the award show," I told her."It came in at the last minute. Sorry for not informing you earlier."I nodded."And the gala is in two hours? Do you think we should just skip that?" I asked and she shook her head. It was too early to start attending functions when I only got back. I had to spend more time with my children and get some rest."You know how your mom is. It's her event, remember?" "Oh."As we stepped out of the car, a wide grin spread across my face. Even though I've only been away for three weeks and had spent most of my time in the hotels,
CHAPTER 1HEAVENI froze, staring hard at the podium."I’d like to make an announcement: my wife—well, ex-wife now—"My eyes widened in confusion. Atlas had only gone to the stage to receive his award. What was he saying?"...we've decided to go our separate ways. Heaven and I are getting divorced. Thank you." I turned to the stage, my vision blurring as Atlas smiled, stepping down like he hadn’t just shattered my world in front of the entire country. Ex-wife? Did I hear him correctly? Was this a nightmare?Gasps filled the air. My breath caught in my throat as I watched him stride off the stage with the award in hand and a wide smile on his face like he hadn't just ruined my day.Was this a bad dream?"This is shocking news! Are you really divorcing your husband?" The interviewer beside me questioned bringing me back to reality.I wasn't hearing things. This was really happening.Atlas just announced our divorce on national TV at the biggest award of the year without me having any
