Chapter Five

Grayson headed directly to his office, and as he approached the entrance, he turned and firmly said to Beta Luke who was still following him, “I would like to be alone.”

Beta Luke respectfully bowed and left Grayson to be alone.

Diana tried to follow Grayson into the office, but he closed the door in her face and locked it from inside.

Grayson vented his frustration by pounding his fist on the wall as soon as he entered his office. “'What is happening to me?” he thought. “Why did that girl affect me so deeply?”

“She is our mate,” He heard Kyle saying to him.

“I don't want a mate,” Grayson replied to his wolf but a heavy feeling settled in his heart as the words left his lips.

His hands trembled, his heart pounded erratically, and sweat glistened on his forehead as fear consumed him.

His worst nightmare was unfolding before his eyes and it appeared he had no control over it.

“Damn the fucking bond” he cursed out.

He wanted to kick her out of the pack to never see her again, but he also felt a strong urge to protect her.

“It would be unfair of me as an Alpha to turn away a wolf seeking protection in my pack,” he said, trying to convince himself of a reason to let her stay.

Kyle chuckled mockingly, “Do you think it would be easy to throw her out? She is not one of the girls you sleep with. She's our mate.”

“Shut up,” Grayson said to his wolf.

Kyle let out a snarl, clearly displeased at Grayson for shutting him up.

Grayson took a deep breath, calming himself down. Fear was one trait he wasn't known to exhibit. He had worked so hard on himself to be who he was now and he would not throw it away for a girl, — mate or not, he was just going to treat her the way he treats other girls in his life.

He believed he had been shaken up because the situation had met him unaware. Now that he knows he has a fated mate, he is determined to find ways to resist the powerful bond between them.

Human World.

Werewolf Hunters Hideout.

Jerry puffed out a smoke from his mouth as he glanced at his wristwatch again.

“Why are they not here yet?” He yelled at Frank, the guy standing next to him.

“They will soon be here, boss. I just finished speaking to them,” Frank said.

“I wonder why I haven't been able to reach Henry,” Jerry said impatiently.

“Maybe he misplaced his cell phone,” Frank said.

Jerry was the leader of the Hunters organization. He had been expecting the members of the organization who had gone to wipe out Blackwood Pack.

They heard the sounds of cars entering the garage.

“I think they are back,” Frank said.

Jerry nodded his head as he fixed his eyes on the entrance door. He had anticipated their return in the morning after they had reported the operation was successful to him last night but they had taken time to return.

As the members entered, they carried a lifeless man in their hands. Jerry stood up as he noticed them approaching with the body. When they reached him, they gently placed the lifeless man at his feet.

Jerry carefully examined the lifeless man laid at his feet, noting that his face had been severely damaged by what appeared to be a stone, which must have caused his death.

“Who did this to my brother?” Jerry cried out in agony.

“We are sorry boss," one of the members said as he stepped forward, bowing his head respectfully. He proceeded to explain how Evelyn had managed to escape and had attacked the man now lying lifeless on the floor with a stone.

“You mean a mere she-wolf killed my only brother?” Jerry inquired, groaning in pain as he held his dead brother's hands.

The members remained silent watching their boss groan in despair.

Jerry's voice trembled with grief as he said, "For the second time now, a werewolf has caused the death of my family member. I swear I will eliminate every last one of them and will not rest until they are eradicated."

Jerry had witnessed his father getting killed by a werewolf when he was a young boy and he had vowed to hunt them down and kill them all to avenge his father's death.

“Did you kill the girl?” He asked.

“She fell off a cliff,” one of the members reported.

“And?” Jerry asked angrily.

“The cliff was so high, there's no way she could have survived,” another member said.

Jerry withdrew his gun from his pocket and fired a shot at the member who had spoken, hitting him in the head. The guy dropped dead instantly

“Werewolves have special abilities to do things we humans cannot do. How many times do I need to tell you that?” Jerry yelled angrily at his subjects.

“We are sorry boss,” Frank said, quickly stepping forward to apologize on behalf of the members.

Frank knew Jerry had a short temper, and he expected the rest of the members to be aware of this. They should know the importance of knowing what to say at a time like this, as anything that could make Jerry angrier could lead to all of them being shut dead in the room.

“We'll search for the girl and find her and avenge Henry's death,” Frank assured Jerry, then turned to the members and inquired, "Did anyone catch a glimpse of the girl's face?”

A few of the members raised their hands to signify they saw the girl's face.

Jerry, who was still seething in anger, turned to Frank and gave him an instruction, “Lead these fools back to the pack and to the cliff where my brother was killed. Find the girl responsible.”

“Yes, boss,” Frank said.

“If she is alive, bring her back to me unharmed and if she is dead, I want to see her dead body. Do not come back without any of these two,” Jerry commanded.

“I swear on my life, I will find her,” Frank vowed.
