Chapter 38

There is a saying that tomorrow is not promised to anyone. How too aware was Alice of these words? She never cared for these words since she only had revenge to live for, but everything changed when she met Kevin again. She somehow saw hope in her dark life again.

Alice tore her eye from Adriano and looked at Khan. Her gaze was sharp, her face was void of any emotion. Khan frowned.

“You don’t believe me, do you?” He asked.

Alice kept his gaze for a second before she responded.

“Oh no, I do believe you.”

Khan could not handle Alice's calm demeanor.

He burst out laughing and looked down at Adriano who was clenching his chest.

“Do you hear that Adriano? She heard every word I said, yet she shown no emotion toward it.” Khan continued laughing while he clapped his hands looking ecstatic about the discovery. “You’re really one heartless woman Alice.”

“Are you done?” Alice asked bored. She sneered as she continued, “I may be heartless, but I am not naive, I know how to value the people that are true to me. But you, even though this piece of shit is my biological father, he rather treated you like his son.”

Khan’s eyes darkened. “You know shit,” he shouted.

“I know enough,” Alice replied.

“Enough!!” Khan raised his gun and pointed it at Alice.

Alice looked at the gun and then stared at Khan showing no fear.

“So boring, you don’t even want to fight it out and only rely on your gun. Why end it so soon, or are you scared you will lose against me.”

Khan kept his gun aimed at Alice. He raised a brow at her mockingly. “You will never be stronger than me. I made you.”

“Oh, then why not put the gun down at show me? You seem rather scared to me.”

Just as Alice pursued him to put the gun down a grin appeared on his lips and he lifted the gun. Alice frowned as she realized the gun was not aimed at her anymore but at someone behind her. She followed Khan’s line of sight. Her heart quickened, and her eyes widened as they made contact with Kevin’s. Kevin breathed a sigh of relief as he looked at Alice and noticed she was unharmed. He tore his gaze from her and looked at Khan. Kevin’s eyes instantly darkened.

“My my my. Look what we have here. You are just in time Mr. Rodriguez.”

“Alice clenched her fist against her sides. Alice quickly looked at Khan. She was all too familiar with that look. Kevin slowly walked up until next to Alice. The gun suddenly went off. Alice pushed Kevin to the side causing the bullet to hit her in the arm. Alice quickly reacted, she turned around, took quick steps toward Khan, and kicked the gun out of his hand. Khan recollected himself quickly and both started fighting. The room turned into chaos. Khan’s people and Kevin’s men fought. Khan kicked Alice in the chest making her take took two steps back. Kevin was quickly at her side. Alice looked to the side and spotted Adriano missing. Kevin quickly caught on and said,

“Go, I will handle Khan.”

She nodded and ran toward the hidden exit only a few people were aware of. Outside Alice spotted two men helping Adriano toward the helicopter that was waiting for their arrival. She pulled out her gun and shot the two people beside Adriano and then the guy in the helicopter. Only Adriano, the Pilot, and Alice were left. Gunshots echoed in the background, but Alice's sole focus was Adriano. Adriano was on his knees looking at Alice. He bowed his head and chuckled.

“You know I knew you would be the end of me. The day I found you in the orphanage I should have killed you.”

“Oh, just shut your trap. What? Did you expect me to spare you after I learned that you were my father? Ha! You made me this heartless you piece of shit. I am like this because of you!”

Before Adriano could respond Alice pulled the trigger and shot him. She watched as he fell forward.

Alice felt a hand on her shoulder and quickly turned to the source.

“Are you okay?” Kevin asked.

Making eye contact Alice nodded. She tore her eyes from Kevin and then look at Adriano's lifeless body.

Kevin placed his hand on Alice's back.

“Let's go. Your arm needs to be treated.”

Alice stared into Kevin’s eyes for a few seconds then nodded.

They turned around and walk back to the house.

A deafening sound echoed through the air, as though the skies were suddenly ripped open. Kevin quickly reached for his gun, spin around, and shot at the source, shooting Adriano straight in the middle of his forehead.

“Are you okay?” Kevin asked.

Looking at Alice he noticed she looked down at her chest. Kevin noticed the blood not coming from her arm but chest. Alice looked up into his eyes. A thousand words were written in them. Her gaze deepened into his as her body lost its strength causing them both to slide to the ground.

Kevin's hands grabbed both sides of her face. His eyes both pleading at her.

“No - No, you will be okay. You have been through worse, this. - this is nothing. You - you have to stay strong. Hold on- hold on. Please- please hold on.” Tears ran down his cheeks as he cried out to Alice begging her. A soft smile formed on Alice's lips as she lifted her hand and gently caressed his cheek.

“Not this time, my dear Kevin. Not this time.”

A sob escapes his lips as he shook his head.

“No! No! I just found you! You can’t leave me now. No!” Kevin quickly picked Alice up and ran towards his car.

Alice looked at his panicked face. She held on as much as so could, fighting the pull of death.

“Kevin stop. Please. Stop.” She whispered.

“NO! I CANNOT LOSE YOU!”

Kevin's arm was injured in his fight with Khan. He clenched his teeth as he ran, barring with the pain.

Kevin tripped on the last step he took and stumbled to his knees, still holding Alice in his arms.

Kevin bowed his head as he cried. He knew no matter how fast he ran Alice would not make it. It was too late. All this time. He had searched for her all those years and when he finally found her, he only got to spend a few days with her and then she get brutally ripped away from him. NO! WHY? Why must it end like this?’ He thought to himself.

“I’m sorry Kevin,” Alice said in a hoarse voice.

Kevin could not get himself to look her in the eyes. He pressed his lips against her hair as he spoke.

“I can’t live without you, again... How will I be able to go on?”

“L-look a-t me,” Alice struggled to speak as the blood started covering her airway.

Kevin looked at her. She held his cheek as she gently stroke his tears away with her thumb. Her teeth were covered with blood as she smiled.

“I love you, my Kevin. Thank you. Thank you for loving me. Please don’t waste your life being angry. No matter where I am I will be with you.” Her words came out slow with a heavy breath. “I - l o v e - y o u,” she breathed out her last breath as her head fell limp against his chest.

Kevin’s eyes widened. He stopped breathing for a mere second. “No, no, no, no, no, Alice! Please wake up. Open your eyes, Alice. Wake up.” Kevin looked around frantically as he shouted,” HELP SOMEONE HELP!!!

The bullet had pierced her heart. It was a miracle she could even survive a few seconds after. Kevin clenched her against his chest as he cradled her against him, pressing his face into her hair as he cried.

“How can you leave me? I just found you. How will I survive without you? Please come back. Please,”

As time ticked away, Kevin’s men were scattered around the premises standing guard. All of Khan and Adriano’s men were dead. No one dared to disturb Kevin. Clouds had covered the skies shielding the last bit of light to break through. A thundering crumble echoed in the distance.

“Kevin, we need to take her away,” Nico said,

Nico had to repeat himself a few times before Kevin looked up.

“NOOOO! Fuck off!”

Nico crouched down placing his hand on Kevin’s shoulder. “She’s gone, Kevin. We need to go!”

“I SAID NO! LEAVE ALL OF YOU! LEAVE!”

“Kevin.” Nico tried to pursue Kevin for the last time, not willing to leave him alone in this state.

“You dare to disobey orders. I said leave!” Kevin said through gritted teeth.

Nico closed his eyes and shook his head. He stood up and ordered all the men to leave. When only Kevin and he were left. Nico looked down at Kevin, with a tight chest,

“Everyone has left. Call me if you need me.”

Kevin did not answer but only held Alice tightly with his face against her hair.
