Aurora POV.
"No no.. please do not do this" I grunt, my chest tearing apart with pain as I gripped Gavin's shirt.
What was happening? Why would he call me an Omega? And how did he get to find out about this?
Tears blurred my vision as my gaze landed on my stepsister, watching me with a smirk on her lips.
She did this!
But this was my opportunity, I will reveal the truth to Gavin now, he only rejected me because he thought I was an omega, but once he learns the truth, he will accept me and that is for sure.
"I..."
"Accept the rejection Aurora," Gavin growled, pushing my hand off his shirt so hard that I staggered backwards.
"Please, hear me out at least" I struggled to say.
"I want nothing to do with a useless person like you, accept the rejection now or else, I will snap your neck and feed your body to my dogs" Gavin threatened, fury swirling in his eyes.
"I...I Aurora Gemstone, accept your rejection" the words slipped out my mouth and instantly the mate bond between us, snapped into pieces as I fell on the ground.
Giving me one last look filled with disgust and disdain, Gavin walked away.
Tears rolled down my eyes as light whimpers escaped my lips. I was the center of attention as all the maidens threw rude remarks at me, including my stepsister.
My legs caved in and then I fell on the floor, but I couldn't care less, not when all hope I had for a better future was gone.
I had to keep my Alpha Wolf a secret, and the worst part? I was now a reject.
I was starting to feel lightheaded and dizzy like I was going to faint when I felt a warm presence behind me, enveloping me in warm strong arms, and with the very last strength in me, I managed to turn my head, to see who it was.
Jake, my best friend and my everything.
I had a crappy family, typical wicked stepmother and sister, but I had Jake, Jake has always been there for me since we were children. The only support system I had in this pack. Even though he was the Beta's son, he didn't let it get into his head.
"Shhhhh, it's okay, okay, come on, lets get out of here" He whispered against my ears, immediately fresh tears rolled down my eyes as i leaned into him.
Accepting him.
"I don't have anything else" I muttered, weakly. My voice barely a whisper, but he heard me.
"You have me, you are always going to have me Aurora, don't forget that" he corrected, picking me up from the floor as he led me out of the hall, I couldn't bring myself to look up but i could feel the people's mean, mocking pity stares, boring holes in my head and my back.
Once we were outside the hall, a fresh wave of breeze hit me as I grabbed Jake's hand. "Why me?" I stammered.
"It's okay Rory, you are going to be fine, Gavin is an idiot, but you know the best part, the moon goddess won't leave you mateless, and I'm sure about it" Jake assured me, cupping my face as he wiped the traces of tears off my cheeks.
"Nobody is ever going to want me Jake, why can't you see that? I'm a reject and..." I countered, breaking down into tears again as Jake pulled me closer, hugging me as he rubbed my back.
"It's a bad night Aurora but it will pass away okay? You did well, you summoned the courage to approach him, you are fearless and... special" Jake countered, holding my gaze as his hand dropped to my pendant.
"Jake..."
"Why wouldn't you give this to me?" Jake asked, running his fingers on the pendant.
I had no idea when Jake developed a special interest in my pendant but whenever I probed, he always termed it curiosity, but I had a feeling it was something more.
"It belongs to my mother Jake, the only thing about her I have left, it..."
"Jake!" An annoying voice that belonged from no one other than my step sister broke in.
I pulled away from Jake slowly, wiping my face as I looked away as her steps grew closer. A frown crept it's way on Jake's face as he turned to face her.
"What?!" He retorted.
"You are supposed to be my date for my night, and you know what a date does right? Hanging out with a lowly reject omega is the last thing on the list" She spewed her venom, looking at me like my entire existence disturbed her.
Well it did. But Jake was the only thing I had that Scarlet couldn't. No matter how hard she tried to be his friend and the fake sweetness, Jake never bought it. Never.
"You can go, I will be fine" I said taking a step back as I slipped the pendant into my dress.
"No...I don't want to...you need me, and that is the most important thing for me" Jake answered grabbing my hand, immediately our hands came into contact I felt an electric shock and immediately we withdrew our hands instantly.
"What was that?" Jake asked, raising his hands to his eye level, probably checking for a burn or something.
"I... don't know"
"Jake, you need to come with me now or else I will go back there and report this to your father" Scarlett threatened. I mean that's all she knows how to do regardless.
But something was going on with me, Just as I opened my mouth to speak, my heart skipped a beat. Twice.
Gem was active again. And then I heard a small whisper coming from her, "Mate" it was so weak but my eyes widened in shock.
This has to be a joke right?
The moon goddess seems to be playing a quick one on me, but why?
I just got rejected less than five minutes ago and now I was getting another mate?
Could this be because of my Alpha Wolf?
"Jake..." I started trembling . I was so scared to say it out, as I had no idea what to expect from him.
Would he accept me? Even though I couldn't be Gavin's mate, If I stayed by Jake's side I will be able to prove to everyone that I have the Alpha Wolf.
"Aurora" Jake gasped. The same realisation I'd seen on Gavin's face was written all over his as the feeling became stronger.
"Mates" we chorused together as a small smile filled with hope crept its way to my face.
"We are mates Jake, you can feel it right?" I squealed, the pain of Gavin's rejection diminishing little by little.
"Yes Aurora...I can feel it" Jake's words were cut off by the loud announcement my father made at the same time.
"... I'd like to break this news to every member of the pack as y'all deserve this, my daughter Scarlett has received the Alpha wolf and hence, I declare that she will be the next ruler, alongside her mate, Jake"
My heart dropped instantly, as my lips quivered.
"No, no it can't be Jake, you can feel the bond between us right? You are my best friend, my only support system, so this cannot happen between you and Scarlett, you don't even like her" I said in between tears with folded hands as I threw a look at her.
But she had this smug smile on her face as she walked closer to us, linkin her hands with that of Jake, "Let's put an end to this show my love so why don't you tell her?" Scarlett purred, resting her head on his shoulders.
"Jake...you are..." Before I could complete my statement, Jake dropped my hands as the warm comforting look he had earlier disappeared, and a cold smile replaced it.
For some reason, I had a bad feeling about this, with the way Jake stared at me like I was a stranger and not his best friend.
"What are you waiting for baby? Aren't you going to reject her and claim me as your mate? Or don't you want to rule by my side?" Scarlett drawled with a sultry tone while shooting daggers at me.
So this was it. My Stepmom and her ploy to keep my wolf suppressed but for now long?
How low are they going to stoop to deprive me of my happiness? Gavin rejected me because of the false rumors and now they have cornered Jake too.
I wiped my tears moving closer to Jake, "Listen Jake, you and I belong to each other, do not do this to me please" I begged, but my heart knew otherwise.
"I, Jake Blackwoods reject you Aurora Gemstone as my mate and hereby claim Scarlett as mine" Jake pronounced.
I anticipated the rejection, but why did it sting so badly? my legs gave in, causing me to fall once again.
"Jake..." I whimpered, tears running down my eyes.
"Go ahead and accept the rejection Aurora, nobody wants anything to do with a lowlife like you" Scarlett added, resting her head on Jake's chest.
I opened my mouth to beg Jake, but instead of pleas, the words of acceptance slipped out of my mouth. "I... Aurora Gemstone accept your rejection"
The familiar pain of a broken bond seared across my body and with blurred vision as Jake's lips spread into a smile.
"One more thing," Jake stated, crouching down, "You don't need this anymore, you don't even have the Alpha Wolf so it's worthless to you" He whispered and then yanked the pendant off my neck.
"Arghhhh" I screamed in pain, wrapping my hand around my neck but then immediately Jake turned and knelt down in front of Scarlett with the pendant in his hands.
"Will you marry me Scarlett?" Jake proposed right in front of me without wasting any time.
"Of course I will," Scarlett purred as she hugged Jake, throwing a glance at me, one filled with pride and disdain.
The whole crowd cheered at their union as I remained on the floor, worthless.
I had one prayer, I wish the ground would open up and swallow me, I couldn't tolerate all this humiliation, not in this lifetime.
Suddenly, I heard a low growl from behind, the crowd paved the way as a figure emerged.
"Father?" Jake murmured as the crowd turned silent completely.
"You thief! So this is where you are after stealing my gold ring you thought I wouldn't find out?" The Beta yelled, pointing his fingers at me with angry eyes.
Aurora POV.Have you ever wished for death? Cried out your eyes, begging for your life to come to an end but it didn't happen. That was the exact same situation I found myself in, laying on the cold cell floor, hopeless and lifeless. It's been seven days, of pure torture since my father ordered that I should be locked in here, no food, no light, no water, just darkness, a constant reminder of my cursed fate.A punishment for a crime I didn't commit.Suddenly, for the first time in several days, the main door creaked, as some footsteps grew closer.Hope flooded through my veins as I picked myself up from the cold floor, the investigations must be over by now and everyone must have come to know that I didn't steal the Beta's ring.If it wasn't for my father's orders for me to be thrown into the prison, the entire pack members would have stoned me to death.I had multiple tags to myself, a reject, a thief and now I was a prisoner.First four guards and finally my step mom.I picked mysel
Asher's POV.“Alpha, we have come with a preposition today, we hope you wouldn't turn down our offer” The first Elder spoke. My eyes danced across the entire room, drinking in the faces of the elders, with every passing day, their ridiculous demands to see me, increased rapidly.Over the same issue. The throne of the Luna was empty as I had no mate. It's not like I had the powers to grant myself a mate, but for years I have searched for her or him, whatever be the case, yet there was no one.Or I would like to believe that the time wasn't right yet. Like my Nana would always say.I maintained my position as the Alpha due to my impeccable strength and wisdom, but the demands for a Luna was starting to cause some uprising in my land.“Go on” I drawled, trying to sound interested in whatever they had to say.“We mean no offence Alpha, as we only want the best for the land, and that is why we have come up with a solution of a mate for you” The man added, looking around to seek support fro
Aurora POV.“You are mine!” his firm voice filled with assurance echoed in my head as he claimed my lips in a fiery kiss.I was stunned for a second, i couldn't react almost like i was frozen but when Gem kicked again, immediately i pushed the mad stranger off me.“What do you think you are doing?” I managed to utter while trying to catch my breath as my fingers found their way to my neck where he marked me!He fucking marked me!There was a bit of my blood on my neck as I withdrew my fingers, my brows settling into a frown as I raised my head meeting his eyes again. “Who are you and how dare you…” Before I could complete my statement another voice interrupted me.A tall man appeared beside the stranger with an imposing aura, from his clothing i could tell he was someone of utmost importance, one of those sick twisted people that derive pleasure from buying slaves. My lips curled in disdain as i glared at him, but for some reason, in the presence of the man who just kissed me, his au
Asher's POV "Omega?" I scoffed in disbelief. Detecting an omega was easy peasy to me so I knew at once that she was telling a lie. With my back turned on her, I tilted my head to the side, my left foot tapping gently against the wooden floor. “Are you that desperate?" I asked, closing the little distance between us with just a stride. With my fingers drawing the outline of her jaw, I took in her features, counting her heartbeat which was erratic. "You're scared.” I mouthed. Veering backwards, she wiped the spot my fingers had made contact with.Locking gaze with me she huffed, "Let me go already, okay. I have no business here, I belong to the slave institution and not the exalted position of a Queen” She said in a breath, her full gaze on me. "You claim to be an omega but you don't act like one.” I chuckled. Instantly, she broke eye contact and then began to fiddle with her fingers. “You're mine and I'm the only one who has the authority to determine where you will stay." Lea
Aurora’s POVBackground check? What have I gotten myself into? I should have just remained unconscious until after the auction, that way, we wouldn't have crossed paths and I wouldn't be in this mess. Digging my fingers into my palms, I began to pace about in circles, my head running haywire with different thoughts. My father's birthday party must be ongoing now. My presence is not needed so there was no point putting a hold to it.Exhaling, I placed my back against the cold wall, practicing breathing exercises to calm my raging nerves. What in heaven's name is the moon goddess up to? She gave me two mates who rejected me without having a second thought only to hand me over to the third one who had refused to reject me. From what I heard, he is the Lycan King. Why will the Lycan King accept an Omega when what he needs is a female Alpha to rule by his side.Wait! Pushing my hand forward with my head tilted to the side, I tried to speak but I couldn't piece together the puzzle
Reader's POV At the end of the meeting, Miller stormed out of the palace and went straight home, kicking everything on her path ignoring anyone who tried to speak to her. “You have to calm down." Stefan, the ex beta and her father said, arranging the glasses that perched his nostrils. “Calm down?" She huffed, turning around in his direction as slowly as she could. “Asher was already getting things finalized for our wedding and then that wench came along. You think I will let this slide.Arranging his glasses, Stefan tossed the paper he was reading on the table before locking eyes with his daughter. Studying her carefully, he said no word. "Aren't you going to say anything?” "Calm down.” "It hurts, I understand that fully. You were almost getting conferred as the Queen but then the gracious moon goddess brought his mate to him…” "Don't make me laugh.” She huffed, hands crossed on her chest. "Even if everyone believes the tale, not you, father.” "All these while, he had been p
Aurora's POV Since I heard about the South Faction, I haven't been in my right frame of mind. I had overheard the maids talking about it, else, I had no idea what Asher was up to.Pacing about my chambers, I felt my heart shredding into pieces. Life was literally seeping from me with each passing second. Plopping on the couch, I buried my head into my hand, brainstorming on the possible reasons why Asher decided to shove me into the wolf lair. “Tell me, have the rumors been confirmed by the council?" I asked Mira, my maid. “Yes, my Lady. The announcement was made this evening in the council hall.” She affirmed. Grabbing the arm of the couch, I tried all I could not to yell my lungs out. My eyes were burning with tears and my heart beat was becoming erratic. Since it came to my notice, I had been waiting for Asher to come to my chambers. From what I heard, the south faction was the second largest faction and most powerful in the pack. They were responsible for the pack’s wealth
Aurora's POV Two weeks had gone by, yet I still wasn't used to my new position as the Queen. The mating ceremony and rites were completed a few days ago and now, I had been mandated to assume my position as the head of the south faction. My responsibilities were staring in my face and I had nowhere to turn to; I had to face them head-on. Putting the last clip to hold my hair in place, I swirled around, locking eyes with Asher who was resting against the door. Startled, I grabbed my chest. “What are you doing here?" “I was admiring you." He mouthed, walking further into the room with a brown envelope in hand. “Where is your maid, isn't she supposed to help you get dressed?" Rolling my eyes, I said nothing to him. The last time I checked, I was not handicapped, also, I wasn't comfortable having maids around me. It restricts me from doing a lot of things. Back home, I didn't have the luxury of having a maid, maybe that explains why. “I’m not okay watching you do everything yo
Asher's POVAs much as I wanted to spend the night with Aurora, I couldn't ignore the presence of the old Beta in my study.Silva had informed me of his presence via the mindlink so I had no choice but to rush down immediately. When I arrived, it turned out that he came with his daughter, Miller and apart from the little side talks they were having the study was quiet, like I always wanted it.“I'm here." I said, informing them of my presence.“I know, son." He replied, casting me a glance before nodding at my table. “You should get some rest and then we can talk about it." I wanted to argue, but on second thought,I decided to act in accordance with his words. In that way, I might be able to get a hang of where our conversation would be leading to.Reclining on the swivel chair, I swirled around gently and at intervals, I cast Miller a quiet glance. I had held this to myself for a long while now. It was about Miller’s closeness with Aurora. When she came in at first, Miller fought
Aurora’s POVFinally, it was all over. The accusation, trial and reconciliation with my father has taken a huge toll on me and I would definitely be needing a long time to heal. Groping my way towards the window, I had my hands crossed on my chest, thinking of nothing in particular but what the future held for me. I was certain Asher wouldn't allow me to return to the faction, now what next? My father's departing words and the presence of the mysterious man. — These were just the tip of the iceberg of my worry. Tilting my head to the side with my hands still wrapped across my chest, I let out a low sigh. “Are you alright, Doe?" The unmistakable voice of Asher made me swirl around, connecting my head to his chest instantly. “Hey." I gulped, my heart racing. I had no idea when he walked through the door or even when he halted right behind me. I found myself hitting my palm against my chest just as my heart pounded furiously against it.“Why do you keep walking in like a ghost?"
Reader's POVAlpha Simone returned to his pack lighthearted. He was glad that he was able to save Aurora from being killed unjustly and most importantly, he was grateful that she was no longer in his pack. All his act of hostility towards her while she was still living in his pack was a facade to protect her from Emma and Scarlet. If he had treated her the way he wanted, they might have killed her for steering his attention to herself. Now in his study with Leon, Alpha Simone was sipping from his glass of wine as an act of solo celebration while Leon fed him in with what had happened when he was away.Just when he was about to speak, the door flung open and Emma stormed in, followed by Scarlet who was also fuming in anger like her mother.News was all over the place of how he went to the Lycan Kingdom to save Aurora and they had heard about it too; that explains their countenance. Leon didn't wait to be told before he did a curt bow and with his hands by his side, he stepped out of
Aurora’s POVPlacing my back against the wall for support, I watched the proceedings in the hall, trying to hold back from passing out. At first, I thought Moore was the one who had sent Freya to steal the journal from my room but he refuted it.And to back up his claim, he said there was someone else, who could that be? The thought made cold beads of sweat break out on my forehead as my heartbeat doubled.Just when I thought it was all over, an unknown enemy was lurking around.Moore urging Asher to make enquiries from Palmer made me raise my head and before I could comprehend what was happening, Asher had slammed Moore’s heart on the table.“What?" I gasped, my heart lurching against my chest as cold chills ran through my spine. No one dared to breathe. The council hall was dead silent like a graveyard.Still staring at the red organ on the table, I grabbed my chest, digging my teeth into my lips. That could have been me.My knees doubled as the realization hit me. Had it been
Asher’s POVWith my hand resting on Aurora's neck, I exhaled deeply, the tightness of my chest loosening. Thanks to Alpha Simone's timely intervention, otherwise things were about to spiral completely out of control. My intention was to make them lose focus for a while before lunging towards Moore, the scapegoat Palmer had presented.Without the journal, the Council members were going to accuse me of trying to save Aurora, otherwise, I would have ended this a long time ago.Tightening my grip around her neck, I leaned in, “Cheer up, everything is fine now." I muttered while she exhaled deeply in response.Pointing at Freya, one of the palace maids, Silva snarled, “You just lost your chance of redeeming yourself.” He said. In fright, she tried to bolt off but the hall had been sealed off completely, no one came in and no one stepped out. While everyone watched, two guards pulled Freya towards me, making her fall on her knees. “I did as I was told." She cried, rubbing her hands vigo
Aurora’s POVIf I had known, I should have given the journal to Asher last night? I shouldn't have insisted on holding onto it to read up every single detail. The journal should have been safer with him but I went way too ahead of myself. I thought I had won fair and square. But how?How did the journal I had kept in my drawer disappear into the thin air without a trace? I wasn't a deep sleeper so if someone has stepped into my room, I should have known right away. It has to be an expert. — I thought, wrapping my hands around myself in fright. At this point with my life hanging on a thin thread which was already sagging, the first thought that came to mind was to run off. Miller had promised to help me when it all began, she was going to keep to her promise this time. And so with this thought ringing in my head, I turned to her for assistance which she did without batting an eyelid. But lady luck was not on our side.I should have joined her in fighting off the guards but they w
Reader’s POVInstead of driving the dagger into her chest like they had all anticipated, Asher placed his hand on her chest and then drove the dagger in and immediately, blood began to spurt.“What are you doing?" Aurora asked, her eyes almost popping from their sockets. “Were you thinking I was going to kill you?" He hissed through pain as Aurora got thoroughly soaked with his blood that kept seeping from his wound. While all this was going on, the council hall was thick with silence. They were all staring and waiting in anticipation of what was going to happen next. “You see what I'm talking about?" Moore said on the top of his voice, breaking the silence. There is not even an atom of remorse in her eyes.” He huffed."She is as defiant as ever, she thinks she is going to get out of this mess easily?” Another official snarled. They were all glaring at Asher and Aurora, each and everyone itching to say something. “She’s dangerous.” Moore spat, his voice laced with venom as he charg
Reader’s POVMorning came too quickly for Aurora who had barely had a good sleep in several days. Gritting her teeth, she turned around only to use her pillow to shield her eyes from the morning sun that was filtering into her room.“Ugh." She groaned, throwing her feet off the bed only to fall back on it with a thud, a bright smile dancing on the side of her lips. Tilting her head to the side, she couldn't help but imagine the look on the faces of everyone that had once accused her of treason. Covering her face with both hands, she couldn't help but to laugh out aloud in delight. She was finally going to clear her name and so she was supper excited about the prospect. This time, she sat up without falling on her back and with a light heart, she went ahead to get ready for the trial. “The journal." She mouthed, pushing her hand forward only to grasp air. At first, she didn't think much about it but when she repeated her actions three more times and got the same result, a frown q
Aurora’s POVShifting from one foot to the other, I was uneasy. Palmer was still staring, the smirk on his lips getting even more wide but he said nothing. Spreading his hands apart and with a shrug, he said, “You see, I’m loyal." Scrunching his brows and waving his hands in my face, he added, “I don't go back on my words, huh." Rolling my eyes at him, I huffed.“What am I going to give to you in return?" I asked, crossing my hands on my chest with my gaze fixated on him.“I don't need anything for now." He mouthed. “When the time is right, I will make my request and I hope you won't ignore me when I do." Without a word to him, I turned on my heels and then began to head towards the door. I was about to slam the door shut when Miller stepped out, flashing a smile at me which I returned. "Hey,” I didn't respond as I led the way down the hallway. Somehow, there was no officer or anyone in the vicinity to boo me so I took my time making the walk from Palmer’s office back to the Pa
