Asher's POV
"Omega?" I scoffed in disbelief. Detecting an omega was easy peasy to me so I knew at once that she was telling a lie.
With my back turned on her, I tilted my head to the side, my left foot tapping gently against the wooden floor.
“Are you that desperate?" I asked, closing the little distance between us with just a stride.
With my fingers drawing the outline of her jaw, I took in her features, counting her heartbeat which was erratic.
"You're scared.” I mouthed.
Veering backwards, she wiped the spot my fingers had made contact with.
Locking gaze with me she huffed, "Let me go already, okay. I have no business here, I belong to the slave institution and not the exalted position of a Queen” She said in a breath, her full gaze on me.
"You claim to be an omega but you don't act like one.” I chuckled.
Instantly, she broke eye contact and then began to fiddle with her fingers.
“You're mine and I'm the only one who has the authority to determine where you will stay." Leaning in, I whispered, “You’ll stay by my side, I won't let you wander off."
Taking a deep breath, she pushed her hand into her hair only to start chewing on her fingers.
Parting my lips , I wanted to speak but she beat me to it.
“You got it wrong." She spat at me. The fierceness in her eyes added to my conclusion on her identity as an Alpha female.
“I make decisions for myself. Even though I’m an omega, I won't be looked down on." With a voice barely above a whisper, she added, "I refuse to be treated like I’m weak."
“Then stay." I exhaled, crossing my hands on my chest.
She must be struggling with her decisions because she went mute for a while.
“On one condition." She finally said, her middle finger poked in my face.
“Yes, my lady. Whatever your condition is, I will do my best to abide by it." My words were followed with a scoff and another lengthy silence but I was patient with her.
“I will stay if only you teach me how to be strong."
“Is that all?"
“Yes."
Amused, I couldn't help but laugh.
All the while I was thinking she was going to ask me to promise not to leave her side but she wanted to be strong.
“Is it funny?" She huffed. “As an omega, I need to be fiercely strong so I can survive here…”
"Stop lying to yourself. You aren't an omega, you know that.” I murmur, watching the way her face changed colors.
Flashing a reassuring smile at her, I turned around and with Silva by my side, I headed straight for the door, the intensity of her gaze burning through my skin.
"You didn't give your response.” She yelled after me but I didn't bother responding to her.
With my hands folded behind me, I made my way towards my study only for Miller to appear before me, her face expressionless but I could see the anger boiling in her veins.
“Why?" She snarled.
“Why have you decided to desecrate the seat of the Queen by having an omega sit on it?" She yelled, stomping angrily but I didn't flinch.
“She is my mate." My tone was calm but it enraged her.
“I can't sit back and watch the seat of the Luna desecrated. An omega has no place in the palace of an Alpha, not to mention the Lycan King."
With a determined voice, she said, "This is not going to happen, I’m going to see to that.”
She sounded like a threat; my wolf wasn't going to accept that so it growled in anger.
Folding my hands behind my back, I soothed it, while controlling myself at the same time not to flare up.
After a long search, I had finally found my mate and right before me, Miller was declaring her intention to stop me.
“You should choose your words carefully," Silva said.
He must have noticed the change in my demeanor.
“Silva, don't tell me you support his decision."
“Miller, enough. Return to your quarters this instant." He snarled at her, steering her in the opposite direction but she was adamant.
“I'm not leaving yet."
Shifting her focus to me, she said, "You know the elders will never allow this."
"Why?”
"A slave can't be the Queen of this pack. We will rather go on not having a Queen than to allow a slave brought in for auction to rule over us.”
I clenched my jaw but said no words.
"The elders don’t get to decide who the moon goddess mates to the King. Only the moon goddess do, and she had chosen the perfect mate for our King."
"The elders don't have the authority to choose a destined mate for the King but they do have a say when it comes to the strength of our clan.” Miller countered.
“Who knows if she is sent to the Kingdom to strip off everything we have worked for?" She huffed, stamping her foot against the wooden floor.
My mate was right when she said she needed to be strong to be able to survive.
Without her knowing, she already got an opposition.
I will make her strong.
She has to survive; I'm going to see to that.
Raising my head and locking eyes with Miller who was still fuming, I murmured, “You aren't acting this way because she came into the pack as a slave."
Placing my hand on her shoulder and giving it a soft squeeze which made her wince, I added, “Don't get ahead of yourself, so you won't get into trouble."
With that said, I brushed past her.
At the moment, Silva seemed to be communicating with someone via mindlink.
"Tell me, what did you hear?" I halted, shifting my gaze to him.
"The council is going to accept her.” He mouthed.
"With no condition?” It was hard to believe, not after Miller’s demonstration a while ago.
"She has to pass the background check.”
Aurora’s POVBackground check? What have I gotten myself into? I should have just remained unconscious until after the auction, that way, we wouldn't have crossed paths and I wouldn't be in this mess. Digging my fingers into my palms, I began to pace about in circles, my head running haywire with different thoughts. My father's birthday party must be ongoing now. My presence is not needed so there was no point putting a hold to it.Exhaling, I placed my back against the cold wall, practicing breathing exercises to calm my raging nerves. What in heaven's name is the moon goddess up to? She gave me two mates who rejected me without having a second thought only to hand me over to the third one who had refused to reject me. From what I heard, he is the Lycan King. Why will the Lycan King accept an Omega when what he needs is a female Alpha to rule by his side.Wait! Pushing my hand forward with my head tilted to the side, I tried to speak but I couldn't piece together the puzzle
Reader's POV At the end of the meeting, Miller stormed out of the palace and went straight home, kicking everything on her path ignoring anyone who tried to speak to her. “You have to calm down." Stefan, the ex beta and her father said, arranging the glasses that perched his nostrils. “Calm down?" She huffed, turning around in his direction as slowly as she could. “Asher was already getting things finalized for our wedding and then that wench came along. You think I will let this slide.Arranging his glasses, Stefan tossed the paper he was reading on the table before locking eyes with his daughter. Studying her carefully, he said no word. "Aren't you going to say anything?” "Calm down.” "It hurts, I understand that fully. You were almost getting conferred as the Queen but then the gracious moon goddess brought his mate to him…” "Don't make me laugh.” She huffed, hands crossed on her chest. "Even if everyone believes the tale, not you, father.” "All these while, he had been p
Aurora's POV Since I heard about the South Faction, I haven't been in my right frame of mind. I had overheard the maids talking about it, else, I had no idea what Asher was up to.Pacing about my chambers, I felt my heart shredding into pieces. Life was literally seeping from me with each passing second. Plopping on the couch, I buried my head into my hand, brainstorming on the possible reasons why Asher decided to shove me into the wolf lair. “Tell me, have the rumors been confirmed by the council?" I asked Mira, my maid. “Yes, my Lady. The announcement was made this evening in the council hall.” She affirmed. Grabbing the arm of the couch, I tried all I could not to yell my lungs out. My eyes were burning with tears and my heart beat was becoming erratic. Since it came to my notice, I had been waiting for Asher to come to my chambers. From what I heard, the south faction was the second largest faction and most powerful in the pack. They were responsible for the pack’s wealth
Aurora's POV Two weeks had gone by, yet I still wasn't used to my new position as the Queen. The mating ceremony and rites were completed a few days ago and now, I had been mandated to assume my position as the head of the south faction. My responsibilities were staring in my face and I had nowhere to turn to; I had to face them head-on. Putting the last clip to hold my hair in place, I swirled around, locking eyes with Asher who was resting against the door. Startled, I grabbed my chest. “What are you doing here?" “I was admiring you." He mouthed, walking further into the room with a brown envelope in hand. “Where is your maid, isn't she supposed to help you get dressed?" Rolling my eyes, I said nothing to him. The last time I checked, I was not handicapped, also, I wasn't comfortable having maids around me. It restricts me from doing a lot of things. Back home, I didn't have the luxury of having a maid, maybe that explains why. “I’m not okay watching you do everything yo
Aurora's POVFor a moment, Palmer couldn't say a word. No doubt, he clearly wasn't expecting my reaction. “Are you being serious right now?" He finally broke the silence. “Yes." I affirmed. “I need your books, I should start with yours." Fuming, he stormed out of my office, slamming the door shut as Elder Garrick waddled to my side, fear evident in his eyes. “You just got yourself into a deep mess." He ratted out. “Apart from the council, no one else recognizes you as the Queen." He added, his tone shaky. "What do you suggest I do?”"Be the leader but don't do anything. That way, you will be safe, you won't have any reason to be worried.” With my hands resting on my waist, I began to pace about in circles. Indeed, the news I heard about the South faction was true. "He says if I manage to handle this duty efficiently, then I’m as strong as he is.” I mumbled, tilting my head to the side. "I won't do that.” I announced, watching his eyes widen. Aurora's POVThe world paused for a moment. The air was thick with the scent of blood which kept seeping from the deep gash Asher had withdrawn his dagger from. Since arrival at the pack, I had seen a lot of things, but nothing had prepared me for this. It came as a rude awakening I was still trying to understand . Asher had his back on me, his broad shoulders were squared, and the dagger which was still dripping with the man’s blood was dangling in the air. “I was going to apologize publicly." The dying man spoke with difficulty only to spit out blood the next second. Grabbing his bleeding side with both hands, he slid through the wall to the floor, choking on his last breath with his eyes widened with disbelief. He is dead. — The realization hit me, causing my breath to hitch against my throat. Slowly, I took my eyes from the man, shifting my gaze to Asher who was still staring at the corpse at his feet. This wasn't the same Asher I had grown accustomed to, he wasn't the one w
Asher's POVAs much as I wanted to spend the night with Aurora, I couldn't ignore the presence of the old Beta in my study.Silva had informed me of his presence via the mindlink so I had no choice but to rush down immediately. When I arrived, it turned out that he came with his daughter, Miller and apart from the little side talks they were having the study was quiet, like I always wanted it.“I'm here." I said, informing them of my presence.“I know, son." He replied, casting me a glance before nodding at my table. “You should get some rest and then we can talk about it." I wanted to argue, but on second thought,I decided to act in accordance with his words. In that way, I might be able to get a hang of where our conversation would be leading to.Reclining on the swivel chair, I swirled around gently and at intervals, I cast Miller a quiet glance. I had held this to myself for a long while now. It was about Miller’s closeness with Aurora. When she came in at first, Miller fought
Aurora’s POVFinally, it was all over. The accusation, trial and reconciliation with my father has taken a huge toll on me and I would definitely be needing a long time to heal. Groping my way towards the window, I had my hands crossed on my chest, thinking of nothing in particular but what the future held for me. I was certain Asher wouldn't allow me to return to the faction, now what next? My father's departing words and the presence of the mysterious man. — These were just the tip of the iceberg of my worry. Tilting my head to the side with my hands still wrapped across my chest, I let out a low sigh. “Are you alright, Doe?" The unmistakable voice of Asher made me swirl around, connecting my head to his chest instantly. “Hey." I gulped, my heart racing. I had no idea when he walked through the door or even when he halted right behind me. I found myself hitting my palm against my chest just as my heart pounded furiously against it.“Why do you keep walking in like a ghost?"
Reader's POVAlpha Simone returned to his pack lighthearted. He was glad that he was able to save Aurora from being killed unjustly and most importantly, he was grateful that she was no longer in his pack. All his act of hostility towards her while she was still living in his pack was a facade to protect her from Emma and Scarlet. If he had treated her the way he wanted, they might have killed her for steering his attention to herself. Now in his study with Leon, Alpha Simone was sipping from his glass of wine as an act of solo celebration while Leon fed him in with what had happened when he was away.Just when he was about to speak, the door flung open and Emma stormed in, followed by Scarlet who was also fuming in anger like her mother.News was all over the place of how he went to the Lycan Kingdom to save Aurora and they had heard about it too; that explains their countenance. Leon didn't wait to be told before he did a curt bow and with his hands by his side, he stepped out of
Aurora’s POVPlacing my back against the wall for support, I watched the proceedings in the hall, trying to hold back from passing out. At first, I thought Moore was the one who had sent Freya to steal the journal from my room but he refuted it.And to back up his claim, he said there was someone else, who could that be? The thought made cold beads of sweat break out on my forehead as my heartbeat doubled.Just when I thought it was all over, an unknown enemy was lurking around.Moore urging Asher to make enquiries from Palmer made me raise my head and before I could comprehend what was happening, Asher had slammed Moore’s heart on the table.“What?" I gasped, my heart lurching against my chest as cold chills ran through my spine. No one dared to breathe. The council hall was dead silent like a graveyard.Still staring at the red organ on the table, I grabbed my chest, digging my teeth into my lips. That could have been me.My knees doubled as the realization hit me. Had it been
Asher’s POVWith my hand resting on Aurora's neck, I exhaled deeply, the tightness of my chest loosening. Thanks to Alpha Simone's timely intervention, otherwise things were about to spiral completely out of control. My intention was to make them lose focus for a while before lunging towards Moore, the scapegoat Palmer had presented.Without the journal, the Council members were going to accuse me of trying to save Aurora, otherwise, I would have ended this a long time ago.Tightening my grip around her neck, I leaned in, “Cheer up, everything is fine now." I muttered while she exhaled deeply in response.Pointing at Freya, one of the palace maids, Silva snarled, “You just lost your chance of redeeming yourself.” He said. In fright, she tried to bolt off but the hall had been sealed off completely, no one came in and no one stepped out. While everyone watched, two guards pulled Freya towards me, making her fall on her knees. “I did as I was told." She cried, rubbing her hands vigo
Aurora’s POVIf I had known, I should have given the journal to Asher last night? I shouldn't have insisted on holding onto it to read up every single detail. The journal should have been safer with him but I went way too ahead of myself. I thought I had won fair and square. But how?How did the journal I had kept in my drawer disappear into the thin air without a trace? I wasn't a deep sleeper so if someone has stepped into my room, I should have known right away. It has to be an expert. — I thought, wrapping my hands around myself in fright. At this point with my life hanging on a thin thread which was already sagging, the first thought that came to mind was to run off. Miller had promised to help me when it all began, she was going to keep to her promise this time. And so with this thought ringing in my head, I turned to her for assistance which she did without batting an eyelid. But lady luck was not on our side.I should have joined her in fighting off the guards but they w
Reader’s POVInstead of driving the dagger into her chest like they had all anticipated, Asher placed his hand on her chest and then drove the dagger in and immediately, blood began to spurt.“What are you doing?" Aurora asked, her eyes almost popping from their sockets. “Were you thinking I was going to kill you?" He hissed through pain as Aurora got thoroughly soaked with his blood that kept seeping from his wound. While all this was going on, the council hall was thick with silence. They were all staring and waiting in anticipation of what was going to happen next. “You see what I'm talking about?" Moore said on the top of his voice, breaking the silence. There is not even an atom of remorse in her eyes.” He huffed."She is as defiant as ever, she thinks she is going to get out of this mess easily?” Another official snarled. They were all glaring at Asher and Aurora, each and everyone itching to say something. “She’s dangerous.” Moore spat, his voice laced with venom as he charg
Reader’s POVMorning came too quickly for Aurora who had barely had a good sleep in several days. Gritting her teeth, she turned around only to use her pillow to shield her eyes from the morning sun that was filtering into her room.“Ugh." She groaned, throwing her feet off the bed only to fall back on it with a thud, a bright smile dancing on the side of her lips. Tilting her head to the side, she couldn't help but imagine the look on the faces of everyone that had once accused her of treason. Covering her face with both hands, she couldn't help but to laugh out aloud in delight. She was finally going to clear her name and so she was supper excited about the prospect. This time, she sat up without falling on her back and with a light heart, she went ahead to get ready for the trial. “The journal." She mouthed, pushing her hand forward only to grasp air. At first, she didn't think much about it but when she repeated her actions three more times and got the same result, a frown q
Aurora’s POVShifting from one foot to the other, I was uneasy. Palmer was still staring, the smirk on his lips getting even more wide but he said nothing. Spreading his hands apart and with a shrug, he said, “You see, I’m loyal." Scrunching his brows and waving his hands in my face, he added, “I don't go back on my words, huh." Rolling my eyes at him, I huffed.“What am I going to give to you in return?" I asked, crossing my hands on my chest with my gaze fixated on him.“I don't need anything for now." He mouthed. “When the time is right, I will make my request and I hope you won't ignore me when I do." Without a word to him, I turned on my heels and then began to head towards the door. I was about to slam the door shut when Miller stepped out, flashing a smile at me which I returned. "Hey,” I didn't respond as I led the way down the hallway. Somehow, there was no officer or anyone in the vicinity to boo me so I took my time making the walk from Palmer’s office back to the Pa
