"You sent your best agent and she messed up. Again!" Peter Billiard shouts while hitting the brown mahogany desk with his left palm that is covered in a black leather glove. His shoulders are tense and his face? I've never seen it so red! Oh boy.

I seat quietly and watch everyone talk about my 'mistake'.

"Jada is never careless during her missions. We could call this... a mishap." Mike tries defending me but I know when we're out of here I'm in trouble. Peter Billiard turns to me and I look straight into his eyes. His confidence somehow diminishes and I inwardly smirk.

I have that effect on everyone. From my bosses to my colleagues and everyone who knows me. Well apart from a separate group of people but that's a story for another time.

I look beside me to find Cole, my partner, looking away almost like he wants to hide under the desk.

"The man was a threat. His gun was pointed at Lark's head. It was either to kill him or let him kill Lark." I explain for the seventh time. And to be honest, that was the last time I would explain it.

"The idiot was the last link to where the other safe was. You always mess up everything." Peter says and adds in a lower voice. "You don't have the balls to do this job."

"I care for my team mates. Why would I spare a criminal who probably wouldn't tell us a thing rather than let ONE OF US get killed out there when I could prevent it? You might not have a conscience but I do. And it wouldn't let me sleep knowing Lark died out there when I could prevent it. I think if anyone isn't ready to defend one of us, then they don't have the balls for this type of job. You only sit behind the desk and watch us out there." I have never talked so much since I joined the FBI. I take in a deep breath.

Mike clears his throat and opens a new file. He hands out the copies.

Leonardo Carter Williams

Nine years old

Blonde with green eyes

Home schooled

Orphan

I look at his photo and notice he seems too pale to be healthy. His face reflects a sad and lonely kid. I read other parts of his file. He has leukemia and his parents were murdered two years ago.

"His guardian who's also his uncle reported two days ago that the boy started receiving death threats about four months ago and he suspects it's from his parents' killers." I look at the file in confusion but before I ask anything, Mike continues talking.

"The killers need something from Leonardo. We don't know what or where it is. Jada and Cole, you'll be taking this case."

I look at him. I know my face doesn't show anything but I'm full of questions.

"What am I supposed to do?" I finally ask but what Mike answers is not what I expected.

"Leonardo is homeschooled and he also needs a nanny. You'll take up the job." Mike says with finality.

"So now I'm a nanny?" I ask ridiculously. For once I think of this as a sort of weird joke or prank.

"Yes. Leonardo Williams needs protection. At the same time you should try finding out what they want."

My eyes dart to everyone and I find Peter holding up a smug look. "Did you plan this?" I look at him but Mike comes to his rescue again.

"You've caused too much trouble for the past year Jada."

"So this is some sort of punishment? All kills were required." I turn to Cole waiting for some back up but he already looks like a wet dog with its tail in between his hind legs. Some partner he is.

"This is final agent Costa. You will start your work as a nanny on Monday or hand over your badge this instant."

A hot feeling raises inside of me as I look at Mike. I'm so tempted to hand over the badge but the FBI has become my second home. It has kept me sane. Everyone gets up and leaves leaving me alone. Well not totally alone.

I turn to the slumped body of my partner to my right. He wants to say something but I get up. I can't believe he let this happen.

I go towards Mike's cabin and hear him talk to Peter. I really feel like turning around but I don't stop. I knock on his open door.

"I'm here for Leonardo's file." I say monotonously. Mike hands it over and as I see his mouth open to say something, I turn and leave immediately.

I take my things and go to my black Audi then drive to my apartment. I head straight to my kitchenette and drink a glass of water.

I head to my bedroom as I rid of my blonde wig. I place it on the dressing table. I look at my face and now charcoal black hair as I think about the new task. Being a nanny isn't good enough to be a mission.

I take off the brown contact lenses leaving behind my papa's blue-green eyes that I once loved so much. I change into black yoga pants and a black tank top. I stand in front of my full mirror.

I'm 5'7. An athletic body probably due to the intense exercises and workouts every day.

I take my laptop and file go down to my black tesla and head home. The two cars are necessary for my life. As you figured out, I live a double life. I've lived it for four years and it has been okay. So far.

Nobody at the FBI knows me. You might not believe it but there's nowhere where the real me exists or ever did. I changed names and appearance before I got into the FBI. Let's say my past life is something I'd never want to remember or live in. My past life made me who I am right now.

A cold, heartless and stone hearted bitch. People call me 'the ice queen'.

Abby, one of the women I've come to like in the past few years opens the door to the children's home that has also been my home for the last six years. A place where I can show the people inside who I really am.

A place I don't have to kill or argue with self-absorbed assholes. A place where I have no missions. This is a place that I can feel free and safe. A place that I can feel loved.

This is home.

A mop of black hair jumps into my arms hugging me tightly. "Jada!" A high pitch voice of a six year old boy follows and I laugh as I hug him back. I look at his green eyes and smile. Oh Ryan.

"And how has my favorite six year old been today?" I ask playful and he instantly answers saying how good he was. I greet the other kids who just had their dinner and Ryan starts telling me how he got a new friend who came with his dad to visit them at the shelter.

I tuck him into bed and start singing him his favorite song until I also start drifting off to sleep.

My phone starts ringing as I find Mike's name flashing on the screen.

"Agent Costa speaking." I try to say professionally but I'm so annoyed.

"Lara is surrounded. She needs a hand." I almost groan.

"Text me the address I'm on my way." I run to my car even though Abby tries to stop me.

I drive to my apartment and change into my work look as fast as I can and drive to the address.

I find a bitchy damsel in distress and I do everything to help like the good person I am.

"Hi. I'm Jada Costa. The new nanny." I inform the security guard through a screen. I look around as I wait and I love their security. To have such security requires a small fortune. The footpath gate opens and I enter to find a 6'3 man with a buzz cut standing behind it. He tells me to follow him and I do just that. A beautiful dark skinned middle age woman stands infront of a large door that is closed. Her hair is in a tight bun and she's in a tailored skirt with a coat. I could assume that she's the lady of the house but she seems too professional. And based on the files I have, Sarah Williams doesn't look like her. So she must be Leah Saint. Sarah's best friend and house manager. "Welcome to the Williams' mansion. I hope you are Jada Costa, Leonardo Williams' new nanny." "Pleased to meet you Mrs." I try placing a smile on my face but it seems hard and so I go with a straight face. I raise my hand for a greeting and she takes it into her warm ones. "I'm Leah Saint. I manage the

I give out a short laugh. "Hey, I made you laugh." Leo says in disbelief, then turns to look at the chef. "Rita, I made Jada laugh. Isn't that just mind-blowing!" Rita and I laugh once again at his expression. "I know what you're doing. Eat your vegetables. You need them to fight all diseases." I say, and he frowns a little bit but starts eating but stops after two bites, then looks at me with a look saying 'see I ate'. "Let's make a bet then. You eat, then I'll sing a song before you sleep." Just as I finish talking, the fourth bite takes place, and I snicker. Just then, Sarah Williams comes into the dining room. Leo's eyes light up when he looks at her, and I raise my eyes to where she stands. I know my body has suddenly gone rigid, and my face impasive. It's a body instinct. That's how I react to anyone I don

"Hi Jada. Ryan want to talk to you. He's been sad since you left." Abby, one of the women at the children's home, tells me through the phone and my heart breaks. "Give him the phone. I'll talk to him." I tell her and she hums before I hear some shuffling on the other side. I look at the laptop screen and see Alexis talking to someone through the phone in hushed voices. Hmmm. "Jada!" Ryan's excited voice comes through the phone and I immediately smile. "Hey Ryan. How are you?" I ask. "I miss you and I don't want to go to school without seeing you. Where are you?" He is sad. I went to the home four years ago and found a two year old Ryan. Black hair and bottle green eyes. I felt an instant connection with him. Probably because I'd have a baby with the same age right now. I continue watching Alexis as she disconnects her call and turns to Jayden who just arrived. "Go to school and I'll talk to you when you come back. I'm at work and I really can't leave. I'll see you during the we

12.32 a.m. I better head off to bed. I yawn as I raise my hand to switch off my laptop screen showing different parts of the house but a movement makes me stop mid air depriving me off any traces of sleep. In a large white shirt is Alexis tip toeing out of her room as she looks around. Her eyes look at the camera and my breath hitches. It's like we're looking at each other. I stay immobile waiting for any movement. Her head turns before her body does the same and heads towards the hallway with my room in. At least she never saw the tiny camera. I turn the screen to the cameras showing my hallway. She tiptoes as she looks around. She looks almost confident. Like something she's used to doing it. She stops in front of Leonardo's room. Hmmm! I turn the cameras to Leo's room. Alexis stand at the foot of his bed looking at his sleeping form. She moves closer to his bed. I take the discarded wig that I placed next to the laptop and start fixing it into my hair as I stare intently at th

"We will be having guests today. Important guests and I expect the house to be sparkling clean. I don't expect any mistakes or negligence. You know what will happen if I see any." Sarah completes her short speech and I look around wondering why they called me. It's not like I'm needed here. "Jada. Follow me." Sarah says in her authoritative voice and I do as she says. We walk about a metre away. "Now, Leonardo has been talking about this place where he met some friends. Would you be kind enough to take him as everyone will prepare for today's guests?" "It's okay. Do I....""His chauffeur knows the place. He'll take you there." Hmm! Rude much? I bite my tongue. "It's okay ma'am." Sarah only nods and turns leaving me standing. 'I better go check on Leo.' I think as I walk towards his room. "Leo we're leaving in ten." I announce as I get into his room to find him talking to Jayden. Jayden gets up and only nods at me in greeting

"Do you think this is the right thing to do? Jayden proposing to Alexis? Alexis doesn't even seem to love his genuinely. She only seems to be interested in the cash." I hear Leah's voice through my laptop. 'So that's what this party is about.' I realize. Sarah seems to be deep in thought. "I know. But he has to show me that he's serious about his life. And besides Alexis is so good at this business, Jayden wouldn't want to inherit a clothing line. It's a win-win." She seeps from her cup and Leah shakes her head. "I have a bad feeling about this. About her." Leah says lowly. "Leave it." Sarah says and they both stay in silent. I must say they have a good relationship. My phone vibrates next to my laptop and I see Cole's name. "Costa." I respond. "Hey, Jada. I've just seen a photo of Armstrong with Leonardo's teacher, that Shawn guy. They were in the same club Ivy works at but they weren't together. I'll just send it to you." "I've been looking for you everywhere. You need to give me your phone number." Jayden says just as I pick up another mismatched pair of socks in Leo's room. "Just state what you want." I say curtly, and he raises an eyebrow, but I pay no mind and continue with what I'm doing. "Okay." He says dragging the 'a', but I offer no reaction. "I just got a letter. No return address. It only has my name on it. But it's printed." This makes me move towards him, and he hands me the small opened envelope. My eyes drift to his face, which now shows anger and frustration. "Hey Abby, how are the kids doing?" I say as I hug her.  It's finally Friday night, and I had planned to surprise Ryan since he's expecting me tomorrow. "They're doing great. Well, apart from Ryan. You know how he is when you leave." Abby says with a chuckle, and I slightly smile. "Yeah. That's why I came here sooner. Where are they?" I ask "Homework. You know nothing has changed here, Jada." She chuckles a bit, but I only nod, then excuse myself. I greet the other two women who stay here. Kaely Potts and Skylar Saturday. I didn't see Conner. He's probably out with his friends. These people are my family. When I came here, I was cold and emotionless at first when I escaped from the Italians, but they took me in. My walls were so high and unbreakable, but they still nursed me. They tolerated me and helped me get on my feet once again. I would always protect each one of them. I would give my life for theirs.  I walk towards the last ro

ONE YEAR LATER JAYDEN'S POV "I'll really miss the three of you." I say, looking down at the three graves belonging to Jakob, Lillian, and Leonardo Williams. "I didn't know that I could feel at peace after your death, but in a way, you leaving me brought Jada to me." I say as I sit in front of the middle grave, Leo's. It had been my mother's idea to leave the space in between, and at the time, I disagreed, thinking how it was selfish to think that Leo would occupy that space someday. "You already met Clarissa Louisa Williams, my daughter." I say with a smile as I think of my daughter. She has my white blonde hair and blue eyes but Jada's facial features. She's beautiful. "And my son Ryan Costa Williams. They are the best kids anyone would wish for guys." I say just as I hear Ryan shouting for me. I immediately smile and get up. "Time for me to leave." I pat my trousers to rid off any dust. "I'll be back." I promise before turning and walking to

"Jayden. I need to tell you something." I start talking about an hour later of watching some crappy late night show that I didn't even understand what it is about. He doesn't respond, making me look at him. He's asleep. I sigh and turn down the volume, then stand and cover him well before sitting on the chair that I had previously insisted on sitting on. I decide to switch off the television after a while and look down at my phone. It's a little past one a.m. I miss Ryan so much. Jayden and I had talked to him hours ago, but I still want him here. I look at Jayden's peaceful face, sleeping and sigh. I want us to talk about the baby, but he needs to sleep and rest. It's like a heavy truth that I need to spit it out so that I can feel free. But it seems that I'll have to wait till in the morning. I stand and walk to the couch at the corner of the hospital room and lie down, and try getting some sleep. I've never thought about starting a family after Ashton, my parents and siblings di

Linda has informed me about the convulsions before she went into Jayden's hospital room. The first one started yesterday morning at around four a.m. I can see Sarah eyeing my stomach with curiosity but she dares not ask about it. And I really hope she doesn't. She treated me poorly last time I was here. "So, how long are you?" She asks looking ahead but I don't answer. I look down at my phone and continue my texts with Shawn. I really am changing. "Is that my grandchild Candice Martins?" She calls me by my birth names making me still and try to fight the urge to look up. "I know so much about you. Don't think that I'll just sit and see my son destroy his life because of some woman." Sarah says and I turn to her with a smirk. "That's the problem Mrs Williams." I start and I can see her eyes locked to mine. She has these beautiful brown eyes but one can see the sadness and void in it. She looks tired. "You don't have to love me for me to be with your son. You can take it easy, Jayden

"Jada, it's Sarah. I think we might need you here." Sarah says. "Why would you now need me after telling me to stay away from your family?" I ask with a scoff. "Could you come to the hospital then we'll talk about this. I had my reasons, and believe me, if I didn't want my son to get better, I wouldn't have called you." She answers, making me wonder what is happening to Jayden. "I'm in Seattle. I'm back at work, and my son just got back to school. I can't keep on disrupting my life because you can't decide if you want me there or not. I have a life Mrs Williams and I can't just stop it because you want me to." With that, I hung up my phone though I can feel my hand shaking. What happened to Jayden? I know Sarah has this large ego and wouldn't call me if nothing happened. Maybe I should call Mr Kings, his doctors can tell him what is happening. With that in thought, I pick up my phone that I had placed on the desk and search for Sydney's number, but it goes to voicemail. I try Isab

Isabella Kings has been nice to me for the past few weeks since I came back to LA even though I was rude to her before I went to Seattle. Her mother had asked for me to join dinner, and some days, some days prior to dinner, I found out about Ashton's betrayal and kid. "Bella. Is that dinner thing still on? Maybe it's time for your mother to meet my son. She's always complaining about me being alone." I say as we walk from a nearby grocery shop. "Really? Yeah. I'll tell her. She'll be so excited." She smiles, and I give her a small smile. I have decided to go back to Seattle in a week since Ryan needs to catch up in school after almost two months and Jayden's mother had been deadly serious when she told me that she didn't want to see me again. As for my unborn child, I'm 19 weeks long. I've stayed in the Kings' mansion since we found my son. Ryan had been silent for the first two weeks, but he started opening up, eventually making me let out a breath of relief. He had been silent an

There's some people who work for us there who'll deal with him." He assures me even though I already know. "I should go to the hospital now. I need to check if Ryan and my baby are okay." I say, and Sydney looks confused for a while before the sudden realization dawns on him. "The fuck!" He shouts glaring at me. Sydney wouldn't want me to join them if he knew that I am pregnant. he almost lost his wife because of that."Please. We'll talk later." Sydney glares at Jayden, making him falter in his steps but continues walking to him. Sydney made it clear that no one should call him by his name during an operation since people could easily identify him. Or something like that, I wasn't really concentrating when he gave out that order. As for Jayden, this is the first field mission he's been on and doesn't know the rule or hasn't bothered to know. "Don." Jayden tries again, making Sydney raise an eyebrow. "Sir." I almost laugh at how unsure Jayden is. A car drives to us, making us all stop in our tracks and look at it. "Not again." Sydney mutters irritatedly, but his face shows amusement. Two women in leather attire and black four inch boots step out with guns. "Sorry we're late. Let's get moving, boys." Isabella says with a straight face as her Italian friend, Amelia, smirks and cocks her gun. Sydney walks to the them in large steps. "Always with the entrance, my love." Sydney jokes giving

Julia has been a tough cookie, but we eventually got her to talk when she was on the verge of death. I left Jayden behind to deal with her. 'Ryan is my only family. The rest were all killed by the Italians.' I remind myself when I remember Julia's taunting eyes. I can literally feel guilt trying to claw up my mind and heart, but I try everything to suppress it. Why should I even care? After all, my aunt's husband, who was also Julia and Julian's father, betrayed my dad to the Italians just because of his greed for power. The bastard didn't even know that he had just signed his death certificate. Too bad my aunt had to suffer his mistakes, too. That was the only information that we could get from Julia. The address she gave us was useless. "Did you find anything else?" I ask Cole immediately after he picks up the call. I hear him let out a sigh before he mumbles a negative response just like he did ten minutes ago. I'm getting even more desperate.

As soon as we landed, I switched on my phone and gave Joey Dan Hart's phone number and the other information I had. I went to my most recent calls and selected Cole's name. "Hey, Jada." He sounded tired."Did you find anything?" I ask instantly. "Yeah. I was just about to call you. Ivy visited a hospital a few weeks ago with the name Cassy Waters." Cole says, and I hum in acknowledgment. "Guess you already know that. So I checked for the name Cassy Waters and found hundreds of them then star...""Get to the point, Cole." I say suddenly impatient. "Forgot you're always rude." Cole laughs. "Okay, so I found her. Turns out that Ivy Armstrong was Cassy Waters' stepmother, who died seven years ago. Murdered. Cassy left a month after her burial." Cole explains, making the wheels in my head turn. "Anything else. What I want to know is where she is with my son Cole. Not her bloody history." I say my voice raising. I feel my phone bei
