Chapter 49: Sacrifices

Gustav's POV

I jolted awake in my room, panting like a hunted prey. Zelta, Drogo and Madeline pushed forward, perplexed at the horrific look plastered all over my face. My eyes popped beyond their elasticity, and my breathing sounded in my ears.

I passed frightful glances from Iris to mother on either side of the bed, threading my fingers through theirs. The air conditioned room grew strangely hot. In a matter of seconds, my shirt clung to my back and chest as I wiped off the beads of perspiration lining my forehead. My hair and palms dampened, with the horrid event replaying itself in my head.

"My Lord, are you okay?" Drogo inquired.

I was too shocked to find the most suitable reply to answer him with. What I saw, what I experienced- they were as tangible as the fingers of mother and Iris caught in my grasp.
