A deal on the Verge

Alex woke up and checked the time, with the help of his personal maid, he took a shower and dressed up, he went to the dining and ate breakfast before he was taken to the car and the driver drove to the company.

He was helped down, and Dan was already waiting for him.

“Any lead?” Alex asks the moment he set his eyes on Dan.

“No sir” Dan said, and Alex frowned.

He wondered why it was taking so long for the McCarthy family to respond to him.

Even if it's a rejection, at least they should have sent something.

Alex was wheeled to the meeting room where some investors were already waiting for him, Dan made sure to quickly brief him about the meeting before they got there.

The door opened, and Alex frowned when he saw his cousin speaking with the investors who seemed to be enjoying his company.

The opening of the door distracted Them and they looked at who had entered, Jake grinned and stood up, then walked toward Alex.

“Look who is here, you are late, they have been waiting for like forever” Jake said and smiled.

“What are you doing here?” Alex asks calmly.

“Can't I come visit my bro? Come on, stop acting like that, thanks to me, these investors waited” Jake said.

Alex clenched his fist as he was wheeled to the investors.

“I hope I didn't keep you waiting,” he said as they all settled down.

Jake sat at the end of the table far away from them.

“Not at all, you didn't,” one of the investors said, and Alex nodded.

The meeting started, and they talked about what they wanted to invest in, Alex took time to explain what the business was all about, and he mentioned how it would work perfectly if it was involving couples.

“Trust me, you will love this,” Alex said.

“You said that the best thing is when couples are involved?” One of the investors asked, and Alex nodded.

“Well, you are the one we are working with, and you don't have a wife.” One of the investors said.

Alex looked at Dan, who shook his head in disapproval. He had asked him to keep checking if McCarthy would drop anything but nothing.

“So what do you say? We can't sign this if you don't have a wife, ” the investor said.

“This is interesting.” Jake mumbles and watches carefully.

“I am preparing to get married, If you can wait and come back after three days, then we are good to go,” Alex said.

The investors look at each other and say a few words to each other, and then they face Alex.

“Alright, but all we can give you is three days,” the investor said, and Alex nodded.

They stood up and shook hands with him, and then they left. Dan went to Alex and wheeled him to his office.

“How is that going to happen? It is quite obvious that McCarthy doesn't want their daughter to get married to you, ” Dan said.

“We are not at the court yet, so don't judge,” Alex said.

Even though he knows Dan might be telling the truth, he still refuses to believe she would turn him down.

“Come on, Alex,you know he is right, you can't expect beautiful Melissa to get married to a cripple” Jake said.

“Melissa is endowed with beauty and to be seen with you is like staining that beauty, imagine she is wheeling you around” Jake said and chuckled.

“Just find some lowlife girl that will serve you and get married to her, i mean it's just the papers that are needed right, you can change her with your money, no one will know” Jake said.

“Why are you here?” Alex asks angrily.

“I can't come say hi to my cousin anymore?” Jake asks.

“You have no right to be here, and if you want to come here, you have to call me,” Alex said.

“If you come without informing me next time, i will ask the guards to throw you out, now leave” Alex said.

Jake frowned and smirked when he saw the look on Alex's face.

“Father sent me here to see what you are up against with the investors.” Jake mumbled.

“Don't keep your hopes high and get your mind off Melissa. She will never marry someone like you” Jake said and left.

Alex clenches his fist with his cold face glaring at the door. At that period, he wished he could walk so he would give his cousin a punch on the face.

“Prepare the car, and let's head to the court. They should meet us there” Alex said.

“But, what if they don't come?” Dan ask and Alex look at him. Dan took his face away as he could not maintain eye contact with the cold glaring eyes of Alex.

“Prepare the car,” Alex said and wheeled to his table, he turned on his laptop and focused on it.

Dan sighed and left to go get the car ready.

Alex tried so hard to discard Jake's words, but they wouldn't leave his head, so he sigh and checked the time.

What if she doesn't show up? He has asked the clients to give him three days. How is he going to produce Someone as his wife in three days?

Thoughts like that keep running through Alex mind, he sighs and closes his eyes to calm himself down which did work then Dan opens the door and pees in.

“The car is ready,” he said.

Akex nodded and wheeled himself out of the office.

Lauren checked the letter in her hand for the umpteenth time. She had checked the date, and it was that day. The avenue was also there.

She sighs, thinking of what to do. She knows that once she makes this decision, she can never go back on it.

She thought of her mother, who was in the hospital, and this man could help her if he is not like the McCarthy family.

But she was scared the man might reject her, saying She isn't Melissa.

She looked at the time and noticed the time for the wedding was drawing nearer, faster than she imagined.

Her door bursts open, and Melissa walks in with a pile of clothes.

She threw it on Lauren, who was sitting on her small bed.

“Do I have to bring the clothes before you know you should get them?” Melissa half yelled.

“And how dare you sit here lazily, doing nothing while your mates are working their butt off” Melissa asks.

Lauren said nothing, she pushed the clothes off her face and squeezed the letter in her hand.

She was glaring at Melissa, and one thing was in her mind, that she was done with the way she has been treated,it's better for other people to do It but not the McCarthy family.

“Aren't you going for your wedding? I thought it's today” Lauren asked.

Melissa arch her brow then burst into laughter.

“To think i Melissa McCarthy, will mardy a cripple is so funny, i understand you, i mean you think everyone is like you so you would have definitely thought i will marry him” Melissa said.

“Well, you can go ahead and marry him, he can also help pay your mum's bill, aren't you desperate to get that?” Melissa asks and lets out a mocking laughter.

“What? Why are you glaring at me like that? Do you want to fight me?” Melissa asks.

“Do the needful to those clothes and go do your chores else they will be doubled,” Melissa said and left.

“This family needs to be taught a lesson, especially their little princess,” Lauren mumbled.

It's been thirty minutes since Alex had gotten to the court, and he hasn't seen anyone. Dan told him no one is going to come, but he still insists on waiting.

He sighed, feeling disappointed that no one did come.

He never thought Melissa would stand him up like that.

“Are you ready now?” One of the court registrar asks.

“Not yet,” Alex said, and the lady went back in.

“Instead of staying here and wasting our time, why don't we leave, boss? She won't come, ” Dan said.

Alex looked at him this time, not with the normal cold gaze, but the look was that of pity and disappointment.

He knew the reason Melissa had turned him down cold, but he still refused to believe she wouldn't show up till that day, and she did not show up.

“Let's leave here,” Alex said.

Dan nodded and went to his back so he could wheel him out.

“Wait” a voice rang through the whole court, Alex and Dan looked up to see who it was.

Alex arched his brow when he saw the lady walking towards him. At first , he thought she wasn't referring to them, but the way she was walking towards him and Dan proved It all.

“I will marry you,” the lady said.
