ARCHER

ALPHA KING ARCHER sat on his golden throne, staring at the moon. His eyes were sunken and his expression pained. The glass roof above his head enhanced the illumination of the moon. He used to idolize the moon and its goddess but now, he held her in absolute contempt.

She knew when he lost faith. She knew when he lost love. She knew when the hatred began but she did not care. She never did.

Archer would watch others find their mates and have pups. His younger brother had two pups of his own.

Archer glared at the moon.

He did not care if it was sacrilege or disrespect. Nothing mattered anymore. He was going to die.

Until now, Archer counted the days until his demise. Now he counted the hours. He knew it would not be long before the goddess decided to take him.

His eyes flared at the thought of the goddess. She was never fair to him. Besides making him the strongest wolf in the land, she never did anything for him. The one thing he desired the most was kept hidden from him for centuries. He had no idea if she even existed. Perhaps he was cursed to be mateless.

He sighed.

He could feel himself getting weaker by the day. It was close and he could feel it. With time, he would die and fade away from existence. No one would remember him. Or perhaps they would. He might be remembered as the mateless King.

Another sigh from his lips brought his mother storming out of her chambers. She marched over to him with the ends of her dress in the hands of her maids who scurried behind her.

The heavy red dress was probably too much for one maid, and because of this, three maids assisted the Queen Mother in carrying the dress. Archer wondered why women would wear something so uncomfortable.

"Archer Seth Lucian!" She called out, and he groaned while looking away from her.

"What is it this time, mother?"

"I know I did not raise you to be a pathetic wimp! Why do you accept your fate so easily?" She asked in a razor-sharp voice.

He did not reply, and she smacked his leg with her fan which emitted no reply from him.

"Archer!" She screeched.

Only then did he turn to her. He stared at her without as much as a speck of emotion in his gaze. His wolf gazed at their mother through his eyes, unable to comprehend why she was so angry.

"Look at you! Look at you patiently waiting for the goddess to end your life. Why can't you keep on fighting?" She demanded.

"What is there left to fight for?" He questioned in a tired voice, unable to muster the energy to be annoyed at her disrespect.

"When did it come to this, son?" She asked all of a sudden, her gaze softening.

Archer frowned at the absurdity of her statement but chose to reply anyway. "When the goddess decided to curse me."

"You are not cursed, Archer. The goddess would not intentionally punish one of her children," his mother said with a deep sigh.

"What then will you call this, mother? A blessing? I will be turning a thousand in two weeks. I will be hitting werewolf prime, and I am yet to find my mate.

"You know as much as I do what happens if I don't find her before my hundredth birthday." Archer winced as his wolf clawed at his mental blocks, fighting to come out and find his mate.

The struggle worsened by the day, and it was getting more difficult to reign in the beast that was slowly turning feral.

"Have you truly tried finding her?" The previous Queen asked, gesturing for her maids to drop her dress.

"Are you attempting a joke right now or are you just being sarcastic? Have I not tried almost my whole life to find her?" He opened his mouth to say more but decided against it.

"Let it be, mother, my time has come to an end," he deadpanned, taking his eyes off her to look back at the moon.

"And what if I told you that I may have found a way for you to find her? Would you get off your rear end and find her?"

He scanned his mother's face to find any indication that she was joking, only to see absolute seriousness. He shook his head.

"Let's say I decide to humour you, mother, what other miraculous ways can you come up with to help me find my mate? Trust me, mother, I have tried all of them," he responded, looking away from her again.

Queen Mother Celia looked around to see that they were surrounded by servants and guards.

"Come with me." She signalled for her dress to be picked up again before walking away with her maids, without checking to see if Archer was following.

Reluctantly, Archer rose from his throne and weakly followed his mother. It was difficult to do anything lately but he managed. Despite everything, Archer did not want his people to see him in his final times as a weak King.

He passed through the large darkly lit hallway that he used to run through as a kid. His father would always scold him for always running through the hallway but even that could never stop him.

After his father's death, Archer hated coming there. Archer kept his eyes off the wall, trying to ignore the portraits that littered all the walls. Pictures of all the werewolf kings that had ever ruled the kingdom.

King Edward Julius Lucian was the last.

He stopped in front of the large double doors and entered his mother's room where he found her looking at some papers.

"Before Edward died, I knew he was trying to find a way for you to find your mate but what I did not know was how far he had gone.

"So, going through your father's things today, I found some scrolls and a page of a book. They all spoke of a page containing cryptic directions and a title.

"I traced the page to find that it is a missing page from the book titled The Matebond. While reading through the page, I discovered something shocking." She paused, staring at him expectantly.

Still, the King showed no reaction.

With a deep sigh, his mother continued. "I found out that just like the human and wolf sides are in a werewolf, the mate shares a spiritual bond with both the human and wolf which links the three sides.

"Through that bond, one mate can find the other and form a bond. The bond was discovered during the great war by King Anton Barton Lucian when Queen Eliza was taken by the rogue Alpha."

ARCHERSHUTTING HIS EYES, Archer took a deep breath before releasing it and opening his eyes. He then looked at Benjamin."What if I can't?"Fear was not a strange word to Archer and neither was uncertainty. One thing Archer would never admit is the fact he was scared. Not just unsure or worried. He was afraid of the darkness he knew was inside him. The darkness was slowly turning him feral. He did not want to feed it even more and he knew that stepping into that library would be the tip that would push him over the edge.Archer suddenly chuckled but it was without humour."You know, I used to see my father as the strongest Wolf in the land. I thought he was invincible and unable to get hurt."However, seeing him in a lifeless state made me realize that even the strongest of persons can feel fear," he said then paused and took another deep breath before continuing."I can never forget the scared look on his face. It seemed like he knew what was coming but could do nothing about it. Fea

ARCHERFOR A WHILE the room was left in silence as Ryan thought. Having drawn a blank, Ryan immediately shook his head, as Archer held himself back from palming his face."Nothing... nothing at all. He achieved nothing but decreased revenue, increased taxes and an increased rate of emigrated wolves."He even managed to do what no Alpha has ever done; how does someone even lose in a category which never even existed?" Archer asked in obvious disbelief.Ryan looked confused but amused. "What do you mean, Alpha?""He was rated the worst Alpha for thirty years. Thirty fucking years!" Archer exclaimed in awe."No one informed me that there was a category like that in the yearly pack leaders awards," Ryan thought aloud."That's because there was not. It was recently made up by wolves on the Wolfnet. He is the only nominee and the only winner. Even his own Pack wolves voted for him," Archer stated before putting down the file.Ryan was unable to help himself any longer and burst into laughter

ARCHERFOR WHAT SEEMED like an eternity, Archer stood by the double doors covering the entrance of the castle library. He was always taught to recognise danger and how to get away from dangerous situations. But even as he heard all the warning bells in his head go off, he still ventured into the library. After all, it is only by standing at the edge of the cliff that one can get to see the beautiful view from down below. The royal library contained ancient books, handwritten and typed. The shelves were built with strong centuries-old wood that could stand against termites and other natural elements.Even after five decades, it still looked the same but due to it not having been opened after so many years, the smell of old books was thick in the air, as well as the metallic scent of blood. It had been fifty years but the evidence was still there. The moment Archer entered, his eyes were drawn to the desk by the wall but Archer quickly took his eyes off the desk and walked toward the sh

ARCHERFOUR HOURS AND two minutes later, they were landing in an airport in New York City. Commander Samuel led Darius to another car, where they both sat at the back."Where was Elder Shanon last sighted?" Archer asked. "She lives in a small house nearby," Sam responded.Compared to the busy city of New York, Archer's Pack was quieter. Montana was given to the wolves by the government of the United States after the first peace treaty was drafted. The council of supernatural creatures had an agreement with the human leaders; the humans kept to themselves and the creatures would too. No one bothered each other. And besides the leaders, the humans had no idea of the existence of the creatures. It was safer that way as humans feared what they did not understand. Due to fear, the earliest humans tried to wage war against the creatures but were quickly defeated and the survivors agreed to keep the creatures' existence a secret from their offspring. ARCHER"I MIGHT NOT be aware of what made you completely lose faith in wolves but give me a chance to let you know that not all wolves are as power-hungry as you think. "I am willing to give everything up as long as I can find the other half of my soul," Archer said as sincerely as he could. Before she could say anything else, Archer added, "I am not asking you to believe in me or trust me, I ask that you give me a chance to prove myself and prove to you that not all wolves are as bad as you think."With that said, Archer stepped back. Without a doubt, finding his mate was the most important thing for him at the moment. No matter what it was, he was willing to give it up for her, as long as it would not hurt someone else. He had done all he could and if it still was not enough to convince the Elder, he should be going back to Montana that night. Somehow, he had already accepted his imminent death because it did not feel as frightening as it used to be. Perhaps dying might not be a

Archer had no other choice but to watch the whole process. On getting Archer's attention, the Wolf concentrated on the mate bond. He focused all his spiritual energy on locating the person on the other side of the bond. Archer could feel his energy draining in huge amounts the more the wolf searched. His wolf gave into exhaustion first and shifted back into the human form. Archer lay naked on the floor, panting and drained. His eyes began to close as his energy seeped away. He was quickly losing consciousness. Archer's eye rolled to the back of his head and he lost consciousness, not before thinking aloud,"Hotel Aqua." *****Archer's green eyes shot open. ARCHERHIS BREATH HITCHED as she began walking toward him. His eyes travelled from her eyes to her face. His jaw dropped as he took in her face. For a split second, his eyes drifted to her red pouty lips, but he quickly pulled his eyes away as he imagined locking his lips with them. His gaze travelled to her slender neck and forced himself to tear his eyes away. His fangs throbbed at the thought of sinking them into her neck and marking her as his. He cleared his throat and took his gaze back to her face to try and rid himself of sinful thoughts. She was so beautiful, the most beautiful being he had ever laid his eyes on. He was so close to snatching her into his arms and bringing her back with him to his kingdom, where he would keep her away from the eyes of other men forever. He couldn't fathom the thought of another man with his mate. She was his as much as he was hers alone. The mate he had been waiting almost a century for, was right in front of him. Thunder rumbled all throughout the house and suddenly, lightning struck right outside of his room. “Oh, goddess, I hope it doesn’t strike right here.”The lightning struck right outside his room. It cracked like firecrackers in quick succession.Archer stopped dead in his tracks, feeling as though he’d seen something horrible. Then, slowly, he stepped away from the door. He stood staring at the door, feeling uneasy. He didn’t understand why he was so unnerved or what exactly he could sense. His instincts were telling him to run, but he shakes it away, and walked through the door. What he saw in the hallway shook his core. Clarissa sat there on the floor in front of the bedroom door with her knees tucked to her chest. Her long red hair fell over her face like silk in a dark waterfall and her eyes were closed shut tightly. A pool of blood dripped from her chest onto the carpet which appeared black in the gloom of the room. He stood there motionless at the sight of his wife’s lifele

Clarissa and Archer sat down opposite each other at the dining hall as they dug into an apple smoothie and chicken rice with sauce. It was so delicious to Clarissa and she found that she was eating more than was required. Who could really blame her, it was a bit too much, and she liked the whole vibe of it.“It’s so good sitting here being silly, and trying to mind our business. I truly love it for us, and no matter what people say this is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I’m glad I met you, babe,” Clarissa said softly.Archer rose her brows at him. She honestly didn’t understand what he was talking about. Though, she was trying to do so. It was so weird all the things that were being said today and she wanted nothing more but for things to go on smoothly.“What do you mean by this statement? Are you saying that there are some people who don’t want us to be together right now?” Archer asked angrily.Clarissa bit her lips as she realised what she had said. She shouldn’t hav

Who was calling right now? Archer groaned slightly as he sat up in bed. He pulled his hand slowly away from Clarissa and tried to grab his phone. It was sitting at the side of the door and he picked it up casually. The caller was his mom. Archer smiled slightly as he rolled out of bed, and walked over to the window. The morning sun was so refreshing on his skin, and he wanted nothing more than to have peace of mind at such a deadly time. He craved it so much. It hurt.“Mom?” He asked softly as he picked up the call. She sighed. “Yes, it’s your mother. How could you not call me even once to know how I was doing these few days? I’m always the one calling you every time. Yet, you answer the call like you have no idea that I’m the one. Jeez! How can you be so mean to me now?Archer sighed. He was feeling a bit bad, but it hadn’t completely been his fault because so many things had been happening that he needed to put under control. He wished that everything would be normalized so he coul

Later that day, Clarissa came back up the room. She noted that Ryan was leaving, and when she saw him, they smiled at each other. There was no bad blood towards him from her side, and honestly, she didn’t care about the majority of things, and one of those things was the present situation on the ground. Archer had been asking her what she thought about making a new legacy for Luna. She didn’t really care for that yet.Clarissa believed that he was rushing things too much, and trying to prove a point. Though, she didn’t know what point that was yet, she was positive that he wanted to create an impression by using her as bait.If he didn’t like some of the practices that Luna made then he had a choice to nullify them and make better decisions on the subject. Yet, he chose not to do so. Clarissa honestly didn’t care about the whole thing, and she was only trying to fit in because of him. If not, she had no business being here, and being a part of their home. She really didn’t care about

It’s been 5 days. Alpha Archer was seated in his room, wondering when he was going to officially make Clarissa the Luna of his pack. He couldn’t wait anymore. His mother was the only one delaying the whole thing. He knew for a fact that he loved her so much and that was on period. He couldn’t think of another woman who could fill up his life as she did. She made everything so beautiful and amazing. She was his rock in more ways than one, and he was proud of her for that singular reason. There was nothing as beautiful as the care that she exuded.Archer sighed as he walked to the mini bar at the side of the room. He took one of the empty glass cups and poured a shot of gin into it. He drank it in one swoop. There were so many things that he needed to put in place, and that was the troubles he had come from. It was not fair that he had to think of so many things in a moment. Clarissa needed attention, and he was not there to give her that attention. Archer really felt bad about this. H

This was too much for her, and she couldn’t understand why she had to stay there like she was happy.A knock…This has been going on for two days. The maids had been trying to seek her attention, but she was always turning them away. She was just sick and tired of their nonsense, and she wanted them to get lost, but they didn’t seem to wish to leave her alone. The knocks became persistent.“Get the fuck…”“Clarissa,” Archer’s voice rang out.Clarissa jumped out of bed in shock. Alpha Archer was back? She ran to the door and sprang it open. Despite everything, she couldn’t help the feeling of pure joy as she looked up at him. He was right here with her. The next day, Clarissa spent the day in bed. She could not sleep, but the thought of the witch's murder hunted her. The worst part was that she had to stay here and be careful as she implemented her plans.Clarissa shifted from one side to the other. She was not able to sleep at all. The thing was that she had the fear of being discovered by these people, and it would destroy all of her chances. Though it may look unfounded, it was not.A knock…She shifted in frustration on the bed. Could they just leave her alone for now? She hated everything that they signified for. But, the knocks on the door were persistent.Clarissa got up from the bed and walked over to the door to see Ryan standing there, holding out a candy floss to her. Really? After killing a witch, the next thing was to offer candy floss like it was such a heroic act. It didn’t make any sense at all, and she wanted to tell him that, but she kept mum. She would not wear her feelings on her sleeve this time.“Future Luna, I’

Her body seemed to cake with the effect, and they pour more things on her. Clarissa could hear the painful whining coming from the witch. It was evident that she had lost her voice.Oh, my goodness!“Luna, can you help us to cut off her hair? The future Luna of a pack must cut off the hair of a witch if she was caught in her presence,” Alpha Ryan said calmly.Clarissa wanted the earth to open up and swallow her. The request stunned her. The whole of the procession went to a halt, and Beta Ryan called that they should bring the witch to the front of the pack. He was livid at the audacity of the witch to come to the pack. Did she want to kill one of them? He hated the whole process with a passion. He couldn’t understand why this was going to happen and why?Clarissa, on the other hand, did not know what she could do with the whole thing. She was so disappointed with everything that was going on, and she had no idea what she could do to salvage the situation. She was a Luna, and her opinion was not respected one bit.Two werewolves brought the witch over and dumped her on the ground like she was dirt. They had tied her in the worst way possible.
